C.Crane CC Pocket AM FM WX Alert Radio Evening MW

- The CC Pocket from C.Crane is an AM FM Weather Alert portable radio with some awesome features. This radio was made for distant station hunting via it's "DX Tools". These tools help the tuner with bandwidth control, 1kHz Tuning and the ability to turn off the display to reduce RFI. It works! During this Evening Medium Wave band scan the conditions were some of the toughest I have encountered. Perfect for showing the versatility of this radio in action.

Overall, this radio does a fine job even when conditions are poor. The radio has a premium price tag, but it offers excitement for the ones who are serious about the AM band and portability :)

I own this pocket radio and it works great for me. It carries sound quite well even at higher volumes without sounding too tinny.

I still want the Sangean 400w, but I’ve never regretted paying the money for this.
I listen to MW with it a lot.
FM, I’ve never yet had to use the external antenna. [ though I don’t DX on FM]. It gets all the stations in the greater Jacksonville Florida area, with few exceptions -[ a couple very low power, and a couple up in Georgia, I have trouble getting, but get them with external antenna.].

CC POCKET TUNES ON JAPANESE FM BAND BUT AUTOMATICALLY CHANGED ITS AM TUNING STEP TO 9 kHz.

I just purchased this at REI for $64 tax included. I believe Giga Parts has it for $54.99 which is the lowest you can find it without going to ebay and buying used. I can’t get my local NPR station without plugging the wire antenna. Besides that, it’s a nice little radio!
Just found out there’s an REI I pass by twice a week in my tractor-trailer. They’ve got them in stock! I’m going to get one my next trip.
I'm a fan of your channel. I've been a subscriber for several years. I always smash the like button. However, I could do without the 20 minutes or so of band scanning. Including a review of the reception capabilities would be sufficient for me. I wonder who else skips through when the band scanning starts. I respect and appreciate your opinions on all the radios you've reviewed. It's what made me become a Sangean fan years ago. Again, this is just my opinion.
These are made to fill in my off days from reviews. I like to give a quick once over of the radio's features now before I do my scans. I have had people respond that they like these. If these are not for you, then wait every fourth day for a review. Thanks for being a fan! :)
Well, I got one at an REI and it got me a 70 kilowatt station at 132.11 miles: WIXE Monroe, NC from Myrtle Beach, SC.
I gotta buy one of these one day😅
Trust me Piggy Porkchop it's worth it. You can catch a bunch of EAS alerts on this bad boy by setting it on ALERT mode but AM FM is disabled while on Alert mode

Nice evening bandscan Todderbert! I still listen to my CC Pocket Radio. This past weekend I listened to the entire NFL wild card weekend on WYRD "ESPN Upstate" 1330 AM ( Greenville SC) in the daytime and WFAN 660 AM (New York, NY) at night and I used my TERK loop AM antenna. Can you record a Required Weekly Test of the NOAA Weather Radio one Wednesday using the CC Pocket Radio with the alert mode? I put it on alert mode every Wednesday between 11am and noon on my local NOAA station KHC 28 (162.425mhz).

Hello Todderbert, I have the same CCrane Pocket radio and I live in Markham, Ontario just north of Toronto. When I am listening to KX94.7 which is from Hamilton, Ontario about 150 kilometres away the reception is a bit poor in the mornings but it gets better after 10am. My question is if I buy the Sangean ANT-60 will it improve my reception or will it make it worst? I believe the question I posted on another video but not sure if I gave you specifics of my location. I always enjoy your review and Thank you
I have a Eton Mini, Sony ICF-P26 and the C.Crane Pocket. Enjoy this new hobby.
The ANT-60 is mainly for SW. You can try it on FM, but the wavelength of FM usually needs a smaller dipole antenna, balanced for strength at the middle of the FM broadcast band.
@@todderbert OK thanks for the reply. I am kinda on the fence. The thing is when I touch the flexible antenna that comes in this C.Crane Pocket radio the reception is even poorer so maybe the Sangean ANT-60 will make it worst.
@@Thankyou_3 I mainly use it for AM listening. I use my CC Skywave as my Weather/FM portable radio.

Similar, though the Eton can sound better at times.

I like this one and the Sangean DT-400W. The Pocket has extra MW features.
Why is mine 1 and 9 kilohertz tuning option and not 1 and 10?
With Power 'OFF' Hold 2 sec. 9 or 10 kHz = Hold Preset #5. These instructions are on the back of the battery compartment door.

Its a good radio, not a great one. But it could be. That display needs upgrading. For a radio that sells at that price point , cheaper radios have far better displays. It needs a telescoping antenna with a swivel mount, not a wire. The volume control should be more robust and protected, they fail alot too. A tone control and speaker quality could be better.
