Oh this brings back memories as a kid. My grandfather and I use to compete at night to see who could get the longest distance on AM, he won with 1540 KXEL out of Waterloo IA which was 807 mi from our place in western PA. The best I did was KMOX from St Louis. I finally got WWL from New Orleans last year which goes over 1100 mi but Pap went to his grave as the king of the dx’ers in our house

My GE SR helps a radiwow pick up better with coupling them near by. Wonder if this is happening with these 2 sets.
It’s interesting that you are doing this comparison with these particular radios. When I was a teen age boy When I had to go out to my relatives house I would take out my Realistic transistor set and find stations with that and compare it with my grandma’s gigantic Zenith. I used to have great fun with this.

I just ordered a CC Pocket. It seems to be your go to radio.
I can attest the CC Pocket holds its own on AM, even with a vertical form (and away from other receivers.) (FM is excellent as well.) However, the speaker in the Superadio trounces it!! Was never a huge believer in the SR's AM abilities. There were better. For those of us who remember old school pocket transistor radios, the Pocket is a great companion.
I love both of the radios...The AM on the SR is good, and its the only analog radio I've found so far that has a perfect on center dial. My CCRadio EP does find the weaker stations better, due to its fine tuning ability.
Interesting comparison. I've had a couple GE Super Radios since the 80s plus I have two CC Pocket radios. They serve different purposes but are both fine at what they do best.

Thanks for the Comparison, Love the CCrane Pocket it is hard to beat compared to anything in its class, and is a surprising Little radio, With a Much smaller ferrite antenna it does a Great Job it still locks into frequencies very well, with all it features, when coupled to my Tecsun AN-200 loop it does a very good job on MW
Your Welcome Gary. The AN-200 has been my go to loop when I need a little extra gain from my portables. The CCPocket appears in almost all of my videos.
Which is better for AM DX. The CC radio 📻 ep or the GE super radio?
They both do an excellent job, but the EP has that tune able ferrite antenna, making it a beast on AM. So the EP is my first choice for DXing. It is also smaller and easier to handle.

I really enjoy these shootouts(vs.) videos. There should be one called, “Clash of the Titans” I know that your ears have already decided which AM transistor radio is the GOAT. I need to see the video of how that came to be.
I like your videos and find them entertaining and informative, but this one is severely flawed! You performed your reception comparison at 0500 UTC, which is in the middle of the night when skywave is active and distant signals are quite strong. I suggest you try comparing these sets again in the middle of the day when skywave is at a minimum, and when distant signals are arriving via groundwave and are their weakest. That's the best time to test any radio for raw sensitivity on AM (MW).

Great battle! I don’t think I ever heard you pick up WABC from New York in your videos. Sounds like WBBM turned off their IBOC for AM HD. If WSCR turns off their IBOC, you should be able to pick WFAN on 660 AM from New York.

Not to be that guy, but....with the two that close together there's inductive coupling. The GE acts like a Select-A-Tenna.
You can be that guy :) , I thought maybe that could be happening. So I just watched my CC Pocket's review video again, and it was doing well on its own with similar found stations.
I think this is the guy who always has something shitty to say about C Crane radios.
If you will
try to compare two radios with each to other and one of them has strong and big antenna, ferrite antenna, than its help
to other radio to be more selective and sensitive. best way to know with radio
is better is to keep them away from each other. Cheers.
Thank you. DriveInFreak mentioned this same effect, and it may have been helping the Pocket some. I believe the Pocket is solid after you watch its stand alone review. It was finding these same stations on its own.
