Life is way wiser than we are...just look at the intricacies required for the functioning of the human mind and body not to mention Creation itself. When life presents us with something we don't like or want, in reality, it's offering us an opportunity to change our direction for our BENEFIT which few people seem to realize at the moment but often understand in retrospect. Don't know why Paul's not taking the hint...it's time to focus on more important aspects of his life as he nears its end (at least here in the physical realm). I truly appreciate his musical contributions but perhaps it's time to focus on resolution of internal issues or some type of world or community service work. Consider the possible opportunities. 💞
Anyone who doesn’t have hearing loss - and I’m someone who has hearing loss - probably doesn’t understand how frustrating it is. Thanks to Mr. Simon for sharing his experience.
Thank you for all the wonderful songs, the joy and the knowledge your music and special spirit have given me, given so many people. The 3 monitor thing seems to work well! 🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶🌟👍
I really feel for him. I woke up three years ago and was deaf in one ear--it happened overnight. Bi-Cross hearing aids haven't helped much. I've got 100% in the good ear, but the bad one is operating at 20%. Unless you go through this, you don't understand how depressing/frustrating this can be.
...always been one of my favorite guitarists ( yes, along with tuck andress, stevie ray, chet, g.e. smith, john hammond, willie, etc. ) because of his wide ranging rhythms ,finger picks & hard scrubbing, always percussive !
I can both appreciate and relate to Paul’s disappointment as an aging musician having his health impact his ability to do what he enjoys and loves. I am seventy five and have played guitar for over forty years, and I have developed severe osteoarthritis in both of my hands. I can no longer form chords with my left hand and I very much miss the pleasure I derived from playing my instruments. In looking at my situation I researched my potential alternatives to giving up playing guitar altogether and discovered that I could try playing slide guitar. I did find that I have had some success with playing slide, and like Paul as he ages if life gives you lemons make lemonade.
I have hearing loss and use technology for hearing loss. I only play mostly with a guitar in a quiet room while recording. It is a wonderful feeling to accomplish and complete a song without interference.
It's crazy that he mentioned Matisse, as I immediately thought of him as this interview began; thinking of how an artist loses the ability to use his "tools" and what options are available to them. Matisse was unable to hold a paint brush later in life so he figured out how to hold/use a pair of scissors and cut out his visions in paper-creating some very memorable art. Let's hope Simon can "cut out" some new-cool art.
People don't understand how devastating about hearing loss. I was born with hearing loss, love music, but as I get older, I get scared . How will I become?
Suddenly noticing real age in his voice. Sad to hear him talking about his depression with the losses. The longer we live, the more we have to leave behind. Aging isn't for cowards.
Andrija Puharich and Pat Flanagan developed transdermal hearing technology for electrostimulation of hearing, which improved hearing in subjects with sensorineural hearing loss. For something like tinnitus, which Huey Lewis suffers from, neurotology is the sub-specialty which treats that condition.
Someone please tell Paul about ‘earlens’. I’ve had them for about a year and for me they were life changing. Orders of magnitude better than conventional hearing aids.
I had some hearing loss in one ear in my 20s. No one cared. Would have been nice to have work supervisors, or any family member give me direction. Diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease in 2016 at age 50. And still not told then Lyme disease can cause it. I read about it later that it IS a symptom of Lyme. I had many, many other odd symptoms that I just lived with clear back to grade school, high school and my family members ignored. Lyme affects every part of your body. It's like having termites in your house for 50 years and having no idea. There are some alternative regenerative doctors out there trying red-light therapy, laser, PRP, stem cells you name it to regain hearing. Look outside the box "conventional" medicine and there's a big promising world.
Honesty to yourself is tough & important. We were at a Stephen Stills show a few years back and it was really bad. It was sad and we felt bad for him. Still hearing this I have to say sorry you should stop.
Music: When your ability to still play/perform is THE MOST important thing to get true value out of your life, instead of moving on. Sad or inspiring, depending on your point of view I guess.
Sounds like he had a Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss and waited too long to take steroids. This type of hearing loss is unrelated to loud noise exposure or old age.
I wonder is Paul Simon an Askenazi Jew? Hearing loss is quite common in ashenazi.i am ashenazi. I was born that way a hearing loss not deafness, , and as,I get older, it gets worse. Research it Paul Simon and ask about it. It is in the literature
Very good segment here with Paul Simon!!!!! I didn’t know this about him! He’s very intelligent, and speaks really well! Really liked your interview!!!! Thank you very much!!!! Have you found the gospel of Jesus Christ yet?! He is coming!!!! 🩷🙏😇✝️🇺🇸✡️🇮🇱
One can appreciate the fact that he's not giving up. Keep pushing Paul.

Thank you for everything you've given us, Paul Simon. We love you, forever.

Tinnitus also. I worked in Boiler rooms without protection foe over 20 years. I totally relate.
Paul Simon is an American treasure.

I've always loved Paul Simon and his music. It's so rough to hear about his hearing problem. I'm glad he's still able to make music.
Wow! 83, deaf and still performing. God has been good to him.
We’re lucky to still have him. And we’ll always have his music. His eternal gift to the world ❤
at 83 Paul is in better shape than many his age, glad he can still enjoy doing music

He is amazing. His and arts songs are pure magic.
A living legend. Long live Paul Simon. Long live Art Garfunkle.
"And the leaves that are green turn to brown....." Love you Paul Simon.

One of the greats
Get well soon Maestro Paul, fans love youuuuu 😢😢😢
Worked with Paul, on Simon and Garfunkel reunion tour, Graceland and Hearts and Bones
Real gentleman always treated me well.
He erased Arties vocals from his hearts and bones album. He is a no good pric&
What did you do?
Hearts and Bones is one of my favorite Paul Simon albums ❤️.
@@MalEvansUSAAnd so has Garfunkel from time to time. Both have also buried the hatchet recently.

This was very helpful. Thank you Paul.
Aw man! Paul Simon is a legend! He seems so nice bro, I wanna meet him irl someday 😭 (you had ONE job, doctors 🤦🏻♀️)
National treasure

😃 Paul I forgot your birthday....Happy 83 🎂
11:05 Always magnificent! ❤🙏💐

It certainly isn’t. But as my Dad used to say, “it’s better than the alternative.” He lived to age 93, and also had hearing loss.
“I don’t think creativity stops with disability.”
It certainly doesn’t stop! Sometimes, disabilities can fuel further creativity!
The verse of 'Mrs. Robinson' he sings at 11:12 is so nice with just his guitar and voice.
Out of tune and off key. He sings only for his fragile ego.
Absolutely lovely ❤️. I can’t wait to hear more from him.
@@MalEvansUSAAlthough he’s sounding much older these days, his little attempt at Mrs Robinson was actually not off key. Listen again Mal
@@MalEvansUSASeems you’re suffering from hearing loss yourself. He’s not singing off key.

FWIW, Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys wrote, produced and performed his whole career with only one good ear.

Wish hearing was covered by Medicare.

Most everything he is talking about could be remedied with in-ear monitors as opposed to stage monitors.
I know a lot of the same things .
👍🦻🏻😊
Most people are dead at his age.
Wtf is the medical issue 5:10 Tell Us!
Least he won't have to hear a convicted felon talk for the next 4 years.
