Much respect to Paul for the Steve Gadd shout out. One of the top beats of all time.
Now if he would only shout out to Los Lobos for what they brought to the Graceland album
Exactly...and of course Howard's not aware of him up until that shout out..Steve Gadd IS New York.! Ya can't miss him if you were a fan of music in the 70's..
One of the slickest drum grooves, EVER!
i love paul but i don't respect it - gadd has no writing credit on the song so he doesn't get royalties on "one of the most sampled drum parts"
Session musicians don't get writing credits
One of the great songs of all time
50 Ways is one of the best songs ever written. So unique, so smart. Somehow it seems so obvious, but if you gave me 50 million years, I couldn't have written it. Unlike almost all people called "musical genius", Paul is the real deal.
Truth!!❤
Everybody on that song is amazing.
Love the mention of Steve Gadd. One of the greatest drummers of all time.
To have this level of talent. I’m always in awe.
It's my favourite groove of all time. Written and performed by my favourite drummer of all time. I'd recommend all drummers learn it. It unlocks a whole bunch of cool ideas.
When the musician (in this case drummer) adds something to a song (someone else wrote) that becomes an iconic part of how that song is heard and experienced by the public. This is a good example.
You have to hand it to Stern and his crew. I’ve listened to several shorts from this interview and the number of samples they had at-the-ready to “illustrate” the part of a song Paul Simon was speaking about was impressive. Especially being able to find that specific sample and play it when needed.
Stern also has very, very good sound technicians and mixes for musical performances. It must be a steady, well paying job in that field.
Steve Gadd soooo good on Aja by Steely Dan
agreed. His drumming on the title track of Aja is incredible
One of the greatest session drummers ever. Russ Kunkle's awesome too.
In my top ten (maybe even top five) of Simon compositions. Paul Simon is monumental.
One of the greatest songwriters
Paul teaching Howard about Steve Gadd is awesome.
Best drum intro of all time and not easy to play correctly!
Thank you for recognizing the great Steve Gadd for his iconic riff. The song was already great but his back beat lifted it into the stratosphere.
I just want to thank Howard for point out that chord, because that was the one chord I was trying to figure out!!!
Love his self grown guitar picks :)
I notice them too. 😳
that's crazy! got me thinkin if i should
Perfectly manicured too:)
Recall reading of the rivalry in the classical guitar world and flamenco between those that used finger nails versus fingertips. Sharp against a softer sound.
Steve Gadd... perfection.
Any chance we get the whole interview? I’m a huge fan of Paul Simon!
Howard wants you to spend money for the full interviews.
HBO MAX had the full Bruce interview
Well that's one of numerous reasons to get Sirius
A most delicious song! ❤
Definitely top ten most important drum grooves it all time.
He did it relentlessly with Stuff.
That's highly subjective there's so many great drum tracks - Paul has another one the obvious child that's amazing 😍
Had the pleasure of seeing him at a small venue in Chicago after his big show sold out.
Simon is a great, underrated, acoustic guitarist.
Stern with the nuanced ear, that chord indeed is flavorful
Great artist
I loved Steve Gadd drumming on the One Trick Pony album 👏🥁
50 ways to leave your lover was the inspiration to a few of my breakups
50 ways to leave your lover is a perfect song
Those are great chords, obviously baroque.
one of the first 45's i brought. happen to at wainrites about 2 blocks from simons childhood home
I want
to see the rest of that interview
Amazing
Steve Gadd is great, a huge inspiration to another great drummer Gavin Harrison!
Steve Gadd is nothing less than genius. So is Paul Simon.
Credit where it is due, always. (And Paul resembles another Paul--Picasso--with every passing year!). 😊😊
Bob Dylan or Paul Simon? I'd say more would say Paul Simon. Now Paul Simon or Paul McCartney? That'd be interesting as a poll........
That’s a tough one. Lyrically I’d give it to Dylan, but musically to Simon. McCartney inches ahead musically, but would put Simon ahead lyrically. Hard call on all, though, these are the greats.
The chords in the verse of 50 ways seems similar to Just the 2 of us by grover washington jr.
Underrated Guitarist,Singer,producer& song Writer 🫡🫡🫡🫡❤️❤️❤️
Paul Simon. Underated?
Happy to hear Robyn. Love her.
@@paddyb456 she is usually not allowed to talk during interviews.
What model Martin is that? Beautiful tone, beautiful appearance!
Big jazz drummer that's how he is underrated.
I honestly thought that was Mel Brooks
You don’t read titles on videos?
hahaha !
Triple union scale used to be nicknamed "Steve Gadd money"
Steve Gadd. from my hometown Rochester NY
Hey! Where can we see the whole thing? :)
How do we see the full interviews?
Remember Howard fantasy about the Olson twins when they were underage?
I came here to see him play that specific chord
same here! And I'm pretty impressed that Howard pointed out that same chord also.
I was wondering why his guitar sounded so great. Then I saw five built in guitar picks on the tips of his fingers.
Steve Gadd’s drum part IS the crux of the song IMO
♥
❤
Howard is having a bromance 😂
Paul Davids just corrected himself about this sequence
Casually: yes, he's a good drummer 😂
Some of us become great, while others of us become grey.
Steve Gadd is the GOAT.
I'm a Super tall handsome Retired Saudi basketball player 🏀 🇸🇦 and I don't have kids because everybody is in my business.
Me Too mafia is coming for you Stern. 😂
Still can't believe Lennon referred to Paul Simon as "the singing dwarf". Seems harsh.
Well, I was folding my underwear and a song fell out that earned me millions of dollars. It's a curse.
bro reminds me of an elder vampire
i thought i was looking into a fully clog toilet, then i realize im looking at Stern.
No doubt Paul wrote a lot of great songs!......This isn't one of them!
I find his songs really hard to play. Sounds simple turns out not.
... hope Paul bought Steve a house.
Howard is worried about what his fans will do to his body once he passes. 😂
Urinate on it to start.
Hopefully, it's sooner than later
His fingernails are so long
Uses them for guitar
It's a little much
"Great drummer", hardly covers the genius of Steve Gadd.
Fingernails
Bro needs to cut his nails
I would love to know how the guests that go into the studio really feel about going there when the host doesn’t even bother to come in. Or that he comes in for certain guests but not others. He could come in for Demi lovato but not Paul Simon?
How do you know he’s not there, and it’s so weird that it bothers you
@@imalwaysright he says when he’s there. And it doesn’t bother me….I’m not a guest on his show.
