I just recently started watching TH-cam, mainly because I've been away for 13 years, but I also just got an electric bike and I've been thoroughly enjoying it, winter and all, but I saw one of your podcasts and now I feel cheated and really want a motorized bike. All I can say is ThankYou so much. I feel like a teenager again and have every intention of getting one, also I will be watching one of your builds when I build mine so I don't screw it up.

I got lucky. 20 years ago, the front fender tab broke, dropping the fender down, bringing the uprights to wedge solidly between the forks and locking up the front wheel to a dead stop. Why is that lucky? I was in my grassy backyard going only 5mph haha

Glad you’re putting this out there. I wanted to tell my neighbor to get rid of his, but never got to it. I really regretted it shortly after… buddy took a tumble on the road and almost got ran over! Back fender popped off and ruined his rear wheel rim and all. He was on crutches for at least 2 months. It was an older fella too, I always seen his son ride it and never him… he definitely chose the wrong day to ride it the rear fender had decided it have had enough. :(

Dude, unlike motorcycles and scooters which have fenders that don't cause problems and are one separate unit of its own (Everything comes factory built or build-on), bicycle were never made to put motorize engine on it. This is why when you add something that isn't already made, built, build-on, engineered, designed to be put on it, it is up to the builder, user or rider to take responsibility and action on that modification he or she have merged together as one unit (In other words, to solve all problems when adding and modifying something). Beside, everybody should be well aware by now that 2 stroke bicycle engine vibrate strongly and are notorious of loosen up bolts, screws, nuts, etc. I never have any fender problem but I had a couple of nuts, bolts, screws loosen and lost as well as in two different occasion, my muffler fall off and another time it nearly fall off thinks to the strong continuous vibration of the 2 stroke engine (I had four 2 stroke motorized bicycles, I'm now a happy 4 stroke motorize bike owner and rider). Just like the fender problem, bicycle wheel's can be dangerous when you add a motorize engine to it (or vice versa, lol). At some point bicycle wheel will fail, seize, lockup and the rider bicycling can't peddle no more, rear wheel halting to a stop (This have happen to me on two different occasion.) but when you add a motorize engine, the torque of that engine will cause the side cap on the rear wheel mostly, to rip out open and out comes the ball bearings shooting out of the side, rear wheel spin oddly tumbling and probably causing the rider to loose control of the bicycle (This scenario had happen to me but luckily I was going under 25 mph on my 2 stroke motorized bicycle which have a top speed of around 35 - 38 mph on a 36 teeth or tooth sprocket, manage to slow down, safely stop my motorize bicycle and made it without any accident). I now know when to avoid this from happening again. Cause when this happen, my speedometer \ odometer read over 1100 miles distance travel and when I put the bicycle and engine kit together, both components were brand new, meaning the wheels were brand new. So when my speedometer \ odometer is about to reach the 1100 miles distance travel mark, I swap the old wheels for brand new wheels and reset my speedometer \ odometer to avoid failure on the wheel's (Most often the rear wheel will fail first). Again, like I said before at some point, bicycle wheel will fail and it's up to the rider to take account, action and measures in preventing problems from happening. Not all wheel failures is going to be around the 1100 miles point because different people weigh different amount and as well as the load of the bicycle, etc., (Carrying backpack, adding accessories, etc.). So every rider should take note when their wheel fail and take the necessary action of preventing it from happening again.

I still would be inclined to fashion my lightweight plastic front type fender or go with a light plastic aftermarket front with lots of clearance, and use a luggage rack with duct tape or ziptied plastic to block tire spray. A cheap fender that just falls off and is lost, seems more sensible to me than anything metal or big, hard and close enough to the tire to become caught up. Of course personally I'd probably go with a multi speed mountain frame due to local hilliness and availability for free or cheap.

    Dude. Dude.....
I ride in the winter. With studded tires. Stock fenders are fine except for the front L bracket which your right is junk. Your also missing washers and lock washers for the rear fender. And nylon nuts. Which you should be swapping out for everything. You can swap out the L bracket easily enough with 1 L Bracket from Lowe's. You don't need 2.
If your Bolts are too long flip them around backwards so you can cut them off with a hacksaw.
And your not using lock washers anywhere. Not good.
Anything that has a bolt on a gas bike should have a washer lock washer and a nylon nut.
Also trimming the rear fender where the chain rides is highly recommended. Just cut a chunk out of it with tin snips. Most rear fenders fall off not because of vibration. It's usually the chain slapping it for being too close to it.

Ok Tony, so I get it, you aren’t a fan of fenders, you also stated in previous videos your point of view and then try to drive it home so that we are supposed to believe that as well. You say you don’t want to go fast, yet you promote performance, you claim to be biased but yet you plug BBR’s stuff all the time, and work for them, don’t get me wrong, I’d do the same…. And also I do respect a lot of what you do and don’t respect a lot either, but that’s being real. So on the fenders aspect, they are ok. You just need to MAINTAIN them, every time you check your tire pressure (which should be at least every other day) check to make sure that thing is attached, takes 2 minutes tops, then you don’t have to worry about it. How many of you check your tensioner daily? Do you Tony? See my point? A tensioner can cause just as much havoc as a fender, probably worse actually. It’s just like I’m about to say, everyone has a different experience with this hoppy than I do. I got over 2500 miles out of my first build, I still ride my very first beach cruiser build, daily, to and from work. My top speed was 56mph according to GPS running aviation fuel and a really hot plug (did fry the piston rings on that engine, which was my first engine, RIP around the 2634 mile mark.) With this hobby anything can happen, and you can do anything, I don’t call it a hobby, I call it a passion. People told me I was crazy when I started to build my first bike, didn’t know a clue about engines or gearing or frames, forks, cranks, brakes(who needs them anyway?😂) oh and did I mention, those 25k+ miles were done with fenders on the bike? My La Diabla? That is her name, we got hit by a car on purpose and left for dead in the 125 degree heat of the Arizona desert but death had other plans. So check it out! Have a wonderful fender filled day!

Bikes are not designed for engines, you have to redesign them for it, "this" slap on an engine and you are good to go, is a false promise, eventually, it's going to let go!
The engine requires rubberized mounts. people keep trying the "cheap". There is no such thing as cheap math, start using proper rubber mounts at least 85% to 90% of your problems will just go away. This comes from the Works of Tesla who used vibration and frequency to shake a building and a bridge with just a simple vibration in frequency - you have to weld the frame of your bike 🚲 with gussets around the engine frame part of the motorized Bicycle 🚲 Which allows the vibration to flow around in a circular pattern of counter harmonics because we used rubber engine mounts we also reduce the harmonics being generated by the gyro effect, order a set of stabilizer bushings for a GM car 🚙 comes in a kit and there are your cheap rubber bushings or you could use a front wheel drive engine stabilizer shock, Parts from the car or motorcycles are already engineered, something is better than nothing in cases where you made the choice already, like using rubber fuel line around the U clamps. you want to grab the bars tightly with the rubber, yet not crush them, there exhaust clamps your using, there designed to "crush" that is where you get a seal for exhaust piping, this is a Bicycle frame, not an exhaust system. It's not the engine we're knocking it's the mounting of the engine, and the frame it's attached to, and get yourself an "Inch" torque wrench so you can apply the right consistent forces applied to fasteners, this way you also train your muscle memory This way we don't over tighten or under tighten "said" fasteners. My shop teacher handed me a torque wrench and said this is now your ratchet, I use to break bolts like crazy 🤪to much brawn, then I realized how tight is tight. Without a difference, you're not going to know? You end up stretching things beyond their intended purposes. You either have to make the frame stronger or buy a frame already made for an engine.
Just as BikeBerry strengthened the fenders also helps strengthen the frame, go on TH-cam and listen to the bikes run, and a lot of them rattle like they're going to fall apart, that just at idle? Why because they don't have things built properly, it falls apart they get injured, heal up and make another rebuild, and the same problem occurs. Find yourself a (welder shop and machine shop) take them your engine kit and say I want to mount this onto this frame, they can weld and fabricate and strengthen the frame and add proper mounting hardware, with preference to tig welding as it has better welding on thin materials, like my tig welder I can weld .010" thousands of an inch on aluminum pop cans that is how thick they are .003" thousands of an inch larger than a human hair. That requires skill and a proper setup. maybe you can help clean their shop, in trade for services if you need help with funding, mowing lawns, etc. they can suspend the engine in the "air" with rubberized mountings. Yes, the kits might work perfectly on old frames because they used thicker materials. now they reduce costs by using thinner materials and their borderline for pedal power!
The bike frames we had as kids were heavy-walled and they were heavy bikes and you could put a 3hp lawnmower engine on it, a 4 stroke at that. but that was 40 years ago! They did not have nearly what can be made today. Search around for old bike fame and lift it compared to the one you have now an empty old frame will weigh perhaps more than your entire complete bike.
That would be a good frame for a motorized engine, and with some added gussets to the frame, your reducing future mishaps that are going to occur from vibration and harmonics.
Be safe and have fun! Wear your safety gear it's cool!
