I've never had any issues out of my .380
Probably has something to do with. 380 being a lower pressure round than 9mm and Hi-Point being a direct blowback operating system.

I can’t find any video of them doing a mud test on the AR-180 or the BRN-180
I was wondering about this, never owned an AK but it looks like when its saftey is down it is open behind the bolt as well. The Galil has a cover that rides up and down under the bolt to cover the open area.

@@NormanItalianYankeeso it does eventually. But that’s what forgotten weapons does. They push it to the point of failure and it had basically no malfunctions until they purposefully drained the mud INTO the gap behind the charging handle. But from them lathering it onto the side it kept on shooting. So while it’s still obviously not as good as an AR system, I’d say it’s at least on par and honestly maybe better than the AK in terms of forgotten weapons testing and how they do their mud test on these guns

The unspoken value of the rear-mounted charging handle that rarely gets recognized is that it doesn't require a slot in the side of the receiver. Getting the same job done by passing through a tiny square hole in the back has major benefits. The roller locked HK designs essentially do the same thing, but from the front.
To me it’s not worth the sacrifice in ergonomics though.
@@marcusrauch4223 What sacrifice? It doesn't cause any meaningful ergonomic problem. It's also ambidextrous without having to switch anything or move a charging handle to a new spot.

Love my 180s! When I shoot, it more than likely comes along, it’s just that irresistible. The manual of arms is fun, it shoots incredibly soft and because of that, it’s a rifle I commonly use to introduce new shooters to our obsession. Because it’s not intimidating, I’ve not had a timid new shooter stay that way; they want more, and that’s good for our sport! That said, I hope the aftermarket brings their game for this rifle. A folding charging handle would be nice, to reduce the width of the gun with the stock folded, and the ch sticking out on the right side, it can make your pack a little “bulgy”, but that’s a minor snivel. I’d also like to see Brownells and PWS concoct an aluminum breech block to give the gun a little more durability over the long haul. The port has been a non-issue for me, but the point of “it could happen” is indisputable, and a hard stop would suck be at the range, or in a fight for your life. Overall, this is one of the funnest guns I have and a worthy addition for anybody looking for something a little different. Shoot with a 5.56 can, or at least the end cap on a 30 cal can because this thing depends on gas for proper cycling, but you will love not getting gassed out when shooting!
I've got three of these uppers and counting. Your RECCE video was absolutely essential to setting up my 18.5" BRN-180 and it's probably my favorite gun in my collection. I've been waiting for this video for a while!
Love 18” for 556. Less report and muzzle blast makes for a nice smooth rifle. Worth the extra length to me and the extra velocity is just a bonus

It may be a good thing, you get time to research what will will work for you before you spend alot. Like I have to buy a new trigger, my Timney 3# trigger will not fire some 7.62X39 ammo.
@@frosty3693 7.62x39 can have some pretty hard primers so you'll definitely need a trigger that will smack the heck out of it. I found that out when I put the timney in my mk47. A cleaned up and polished milspec trigger will do you well for cheap

I have both a Sterling AR-180, and a Brownells BRN-180. The BRN is a good buy if you love the -18/180 and want something funky no one else will probably have. I have both the AR-180 style lowers, and as a joke tossed it on a KE poly lower... which is surprisingly handy.
The "modernized AR-180" as he's calling it, is actually making a huge comeback here in Canada since our cuck gov't banned the AR-15. Kodiak Defense's WK-180C and Wolverine's WS-MCR both are made in Canada and currently two of the highest selling rifles in Canada, both are pretty much AR-180s

No because this exact model fits on AR-15 lowers it would still be prohib. However, models with a billet receiver like the two I mentioned are perfectly safe

@@homealone5087 Spectre Ballistics just released a beaver tail lower for the WK/WS (Lynx 180b lower). Looks alot better then the original designs on both guns. Unfortunately the mag well is still pretty ugly.

It did pretty well on the InRange reliability test. I had the same concern since the big gap for the charging handle is one of the more significant weaknesses of the AK platform(not knocking the AK, I own one and love it. Just stating facts.) But the BRN-180 did shockingly well. I agree, it might not be my first choice every mission condition. But if I absolutely need something suppressed, I would not hesitate to take this into combat. Thanks for the info!
I’ve looked all over and I can’t find any InRange or forgotten weapons video on the BRN-180 other than the one where Ian is talking with the brownells guy but there’s no reliability test that I can find? Could you link it?
It might have been deleted, because I can't find it now either. Though I am not sure why. I know that Carl and Ian had a falling out so they aren't doing collaboration vids anymore. Though several other mud test videos featuring both of them are still up, so I don't know why the BRN 180 mud test I nowhere to be found. Interestingly enough, I didn't go with the BRN-180 upper for my rifle build. I just really wanted a left side charging option. Also there were some features of the BRN 180 that I simply felt may be a liability in the long run. I went with a Foxtrot Mike 13.9" barreled upper that I pinned and welded a muzzle devices to to make it 16 inches. I still would have preferred the piston system of the BRN 180, but Foxtrot Mike had more of the features I wanted in a rifle. But even though I didn't go with the BRN 180, I do hope that the vid surfaces one day. It was impressively reliable.

Daddy convinced me to get one of these. It's great!
Mine took about 100 rounds to run on the suppressed setting with a can. Just needed to break in and seal up that gas system.
It was the BEST BF game. The amount of level destruction was insane.

@@SpankyMcSwagNutz hell yeah... remember the Mortar strike ability you could get as an Engineer? I think it was the Engineer class... it was great for doing just that. Sadly after BF3 they started to try and copy COD. Kinda ruined it for me.

As a rule, I don't bother commenting on TH-cam Videos, but I am compelled to engage with this one.
There's a TON of hype when it comes to firearm TH-cam videos and even more instances of folks just paraphrasing the marketing copy for a given weapon. Out of the 50+ BRN-180 videos I've watched, this is the most informative and neutral. You note what biases you instead of pretending they don't exist; however, you make sure to stick to the facts as much as possible.
You delivered a ton of information in a way that was easy to follow. It's my experience that this is incredibly difficult to do, especially with something as technical as a firearm. It often gets even more murky when the litany of acronyms, brands, model numbers etc come out.
Each section of the video was timed appropriately and there was a natural flow to the entire work. Introduction -> Background/Description/Specs -> Wrap-up to bring it all together EX: "What does it all mean?".
On top of all of this; great camera work. The lighting was perfect. It looks like you took the time to ensure proper color balance. The sound was crisp and clear without the shitty, tinny, built-in microphone sound. There wasn't a need for tacky wipes/clickbait thumbnails/lame "TH-cam Review Video 101" tropes. Professional AF.
A lot of people comment on the content not the overall production; I hope you appreciate the feedback. Thank you for the time and effort that obviously went into creating a solid piece of work.

It does look to be a pretty easy mod to cover up that large gap in the slide mechanism. I expect that's there because of how many different rounds, with different shell lengths, this upper is designed for. You might be able to shave the charging handle and push it out further ahead, allowing for a cover extension to fit up closer. Of course it's a DIY gun mod on a vital part, but you would only really need it in a less than perfect situation anyways.

His disclosures are always the bare minimum. H&K sends him weapons, often rare or even full auto weapons that others can't get their hands on, and he says "they sent me the gun but that's it". But that isn't really it, because for love nor money no one else could ever get their hands on one.

Battlefield 2 is still my favorite. Huge maps you could actually sneak around. Loved sneaking into the enemy base and planting c4 on their vehicles and then watch them drive or fly off, wait 10 seconds and hit the button.

In our (🇨🇦) Kodiak Defence Wk-180 we use 3d printed shell deflectors that insert into that open gap effectively closing it to debris
He's upping the game from shooting with body armor/kevlar to shooting with a whole rucksack on.

The new GEN2 BRN180 have a full dust cover. Don't know how well it works but it seems they solved that one particular issue that held it back from duty level
As a lefty, even without a suppressor a DI AR will gas your face annoyingly, one of the reasons I like piston guns. I also tend to use the charging handle to send the bolt forward after it gets locked back instead of hitting the bolt release, which is awkward to get to as a lefty. Love my BRN-180.
It would be cool to see a Galil ACE type dust cover that moves around the charging handle!

Dry fire matters
Sounds like it just needs a Galil dust cover. Dust cover slides up as the bolt comes back and then comes down and seals the action as the bolt goes forward. Keeps dirt out but still works just fine!
I have my brn 180 as my truck/get home bag gun. My go to fight and flight gun is my aero precision m5 with a 18".308 barrel.
This is the second BRN-180 I've seen with a Zenitco stock and it's awesome how much it makes them look like an Alpha style AK.
It does have a unique look. That stock kind of reminds me of the Q Fix stock.
I went with the A3 Tactical folding stock and a Sig hinge on my BRN-180. You can pick b/t different lengths of pull and whether you want it to have an offset bar or just a straight bar. I measured my AR-15 stock where I usually like it and bought the equivalent length. Its a very nice and well thought out stock for the money. The one I bought was around $250 w/ the hinge. Another $50 for a KNS 1913 buffer tube adapter. They also have brace adapters in case you want to use it on a pistol.

Update: I broke down and bought one. I love it. It's so so smooth, it's like nothing else I own, which itself makes it fun. I'm not disappointed at all even with that price. That said, it wouldn't be my go to, still ♥.

I love the Idea of an AR with a deleted T-handle. I've hated that thing my entire lfe. All I ever wanted was an AR with a normal (and vastly superior) side charging handle.
Demand will actually do the opposite. They will only get more expensive. What i think is far more necessary is more calibers. I want to see 6.5 grendel.
Reminds of the Fallout New Vegas AR's, all of them have Bolt charging handles instead of Rear Charging handles.

agreed. i prefer polymer in every way. the only benefit to free float is the ability to clamp a bunch of crap on your gun, and a slight accuracy improvement which you’ll only be able to see from a bench or in the slung prone. the downside is you get to cook your hand or wear gloves to shoot.
Silicone fuse wrap. Rated to 550 farenheit, works well.
kak makes a wrap for their supressors that work really well. Theres a video up on inrangetv where they do an over view of it
Yes the purpose of the handguard is to guard your hand. I look for some manufacturer to design one for AR rifles that does this as well as free float the barrel and provide attachment points. I still have A1/A2 and M4 handguards on all my ARs.

I have been lucky enough to score two PEQ's for dirt cheap. I paid $20 for a beat to shit PEQ-2, but it still works fine. Those things are crazy bright and powerful. Just very large and stupid looking on a modern rifle. It looks right at home on a retro build though.
I paid $200 for a complete PEQ-14 kit years ago. Its cool and all, but its kind of useless. Its too big for most handguns, you can't holster it, the white light sucks (there are LED replacements now), and the lasers aren't all that powerful b/c it was designed for a handgun. It only works on like 2 or 3 handguns without special mounts ( H&K Mk 23), none of which I own. It has some separate bolt on mounts for a Beretta M9 and a Sig P226 (or whatever the SEALs use)
Its too bulky and awkward to use on a rifle. It sticks way off the side. B/c the white light is shit you still would need a white light mounted somewhere for serious use. B/c the lasers aren't that powerful you can't really take advantage of what a rifle can do b/c the lasers can't reach what you can hit. If you had a small PDW like an MP7 it would probably be good for that. It can really only be mounted under the barrel as anywhere else it just stick way off the gun.
I really don't know what they were thinking when they designed this thing.

I live near a military base so stuff tends to "fall off the back of a truck" around here. I once had a hookup that was a supply guy at Parris Island. He would get me anything I wanted short of weapon parts, ammo, and explosives.

My ageny issued some AR180s with scope. It was a take off of the Colt 3x M16 scope. For the time, a good scope that allowed put on, take off, capability. If you were trained for the AR/M16, the AR180 was an easy transition. With the folding stock, it was easy the carry on the back when climbing. We had to mill a slot in M16 mags to use in 180s. Nice to see the new mod can use any AR15 lower. Here on the leftist coast there are some without a pistol grip that will work. Yes, wear a glove if you plan to do an ammo count shoot. How about a wide Ranger band from a bike tire to cover that wide gap? Thanks for the video.

God I wish these were legal in Canada. The Ar-180 is one of the few non banned platforms but the ones that are legal here have horrible build quality and reliability

write a mail to brownells and just ask them if they could export a version with a notch in both upper and lower receiver that will make them not fit on any other receiver set. Could be easily done and quite profitable for Brownells.

Took a couple of hundred rounds to get mine to reliably lock back on last round, and pick up the first round, while using it with the Turbo K.
The only drawback, I have to unscrew the Turbo, (using either direct thread or quick release) to remove the fore end to clean the gas system.
InRange mud tested it. The gun held up very well and still worked before they specifically filled it with mud.
Battlefield BC 2 was absolutely the best BF. The sound in that game was amazing.

Whether true or not, I recall reading the handle of the AR-18 was shaped (perhaps initially purely by accident) to act as a case deflector; being left-handed, and having the occasional hot brass fall down my down my shirt front, something that is something I’m mindful of.
I could see someone making an aftermarket dust cover that includes some sort of sliding cover similar to the sig 500 line of rifles.
I have always thought something like that or the Galil Ace style would work to better seal the system.

The last Stoner creation available in Canada. AR15 makes you a criminal but AR180 platform makes you a hunter lol. Pretty nice rifle that can shoot sub moa with good ammo
