My wife used the 2013 x3 for 7 years it was good, I was surprised it lasted this long with very few issues, unfortunately I spent a year after that trying to sell it, nobody want it!
Tried to buy a Lexus…simply not available in my area and I also could not order one. Settled for the BMW X3. Phenomenal on the interstate. Super quiet with loads of power. Gloss black is crappy for fingerprints and dust. Assuming I will wish I got a Lexus in four years😝
Alex - great review as always, but when you do the full 2022 review, please take note of the equipment BMW is deleting from the Xdrive 30i. The M40i might still have the heads up and touch screen, but they have removed them (and made them not even available) from the 30i. I was in the market to upgrade my 2018, but not if the equipment that differentiates it from the competition is no longer available.
A HUD only duplicates information already available in the instrument cluster, so the absence of a HUD is not a show stopper but is instead superfluous.
Feels kinda backward for a premium car to be hybrid but not have the a/c working when the engine is shut off at the lights. It can stink the cabin out hey. Scratching head at BMW lately.......would be great if you could choose a bumper option on the beaver grill hey. 😬
Alex, With the hybrid stop/start function now on the 3 liter turbo of the X3 M40i, can the driver still disable the stop/start as before? Thanks so much. Your popularity is well deserved.
@@KaboshPenguine If I was worried about saving gas in my 2018 X3 M40i, I never would have bought in the first place. I paid $65K for my BMW SAV. The X3 M is even more expensive. I'm much more concerned with the driving experience and what effects the stop/start will have on performance. People who worry about saving a buck on a gallon of gas buy Toyotas.
@@rogerspalding5673 To each their own I guess. I used the stop start on my E92 M3. Just because I buy a performance car, it doesn't mean I want it to be in the performance mode 100% of the time. I really appreciate how seamless the stop start was on the X3 M40i, the ride was absolute trash though, which is why I didn't end up purchasing it. While I understand the gas savings from stop start is not game changing, it does not mean it has no place in a performance car/suv.
I still prefer or used to my 2018 X3. The new interior design (in the refreshed models), especially the button layouts and AC controls is very distracting.
Didn't remember the 2021 X3 having so much cheap piano black plastic all over the interior. Not a fan of the larger grille either. Hopefully they borrow the interior on the new M3/M4 and use it here on the X3 M. The M3/M4 interior is BMWs nicest interior to date including the 5 and 7 series
Until BMW addresses the reason selling a used one is painful, it will for me be known as a lease option only. Maybe the engineering staff should have lunch with some mechanics who get jammed with them
IMO, go for the GV70 if you're am about the designs. I saw an X3 in person and I hated the tail light look. There was too much going on back there, and BMW hasn't fixed that, obviously. Not exactly related , but Frank Stephenson (the designer of the first X5) reviewed the design of the new 2 series and he didn't really like it. I think they're bringing those hated features from the 2 series onto the X3 and making it bigger, which isn't a good thing. I hope this doesn't make it to the rest of their SUV line.
The PHEV option has been discontinued for 22MY unfortunately. They’ve made all the new X3s ‘mild hybrids’ with a 48V auto start-stop system to improve fuel economy. Definitely a step backwards.
@@joellarrysr9977 yes....everthing is available at extra cost...no doubt abt it...but spec it to the max & you can buy 5 corrollas yet drive max 150k kms till it falls apart😖😖😖

I see it the exact opposite. Since they depreciate heavy in the first three years, why not keep it longer to make it make financial sense. They are actually quite reliable.
BMW is a terrible corporate murder factory. Takata is the biggest scandal to every hit the auto industry. BMW replaced my defective Takata airbag with the same defective part in 2017! Takata is in operation to this day under a name change and power shift internally. I have lost my faith in BMW they are delirious to think this BEV is the first luxury EV. There are currently ZERO electric vehicles that could dream of providing the range that I need. No, I don't have an hour to sit at super chargers constantly. Many times I drive to smaller towns that don't even have electric car chargers anywhere. ICE engines are far superior for anyone who travels for work or pleasure regularly.

Sorry folks, the power figures are clearly off in the animation, this one was the X3 M40i, not the X3M so it has 382 ponies and 369 lb-ft.
The 2nd row headroom number is also in the wrong order.
Wait customers complained that front grille was too small. No way. BMW made that part up.
Bra😝
My wife used the 2013 x3 for 7 years it was good, I was surprised it lasted this long with very few issues, unfortunately I spent a year after that trying to sell it, nobody want it!
While BWM doesn't retain value like a Lexus, I'm sure the dealer will want it if it's priced much below their used inventory.
I don’t think any non-Japanese suv has high value after 7 years…that’s why Trade ins exist
That's why I regret not trading it in and thinking I can get way better price in the market.
😂 BMW says owners were complaining that the grill was too small.
Right. 🧐
Probably in China. They love big grills there.

How are the X3 seats on long drives?
BMW customers complained their grilles were too small.....
.....said no one ever.
The refresh has grown on me. At least it's a little more bold than the previous model.
I think the word is out about the M40I vehicles. M performance is the best for the street
Why did you rate the HP and TQ at 473 and 457?
Oh dear, thats a typo.
Those are X3M numbers.
I love the M colors on the steering wheel stitching

Yes. The X3 M40i still has the heads up. Unfortunately you can’t upgrade the sound system and get a wireless phone charger due to the chip shortage

Great video. Really appreciate the detailed walk-through of the interior! Thanks!
What color was that that you test drove?
That’s phytonic blue.
Those hp/tq numbers on the card are wrong.
Still driving E83 from 2004, almost 19k kms on it. Wish I have the💰 for a new one 😃
I think you mistyped the wrong horsepower and torque numbers lol. Those are the numbers for the M3 non-Competition.
The X3M is probably going to have the same performance numbers as the M3, but I doubt it will because the current X3M is heavier than the outgoing M3.
IMO, I prefer last year's X3 to this one. In fact, no BMW SUV has as beautiful a design as the first gen X5.
Thanks for the video. Look forward to more X3 content.

I tried this X3 M40i recently, it has the most seamless stop start system I’ve ever tried. You will not need to disable it unless you hate saving gas.

recently the BMW configurator does not have the tow hitch option anymore. What happened?
And the result of the new mild hybrid system? Your mpg goes....down compared to last year
After it is broken in, the gas mileage soars… especially if you opt for smaller wheels. This powertrain is extremely efficient.

Really not a fan of those new taillights… they look aftermarket and out of place on an otherwise elegant design
Always enjoy your channel. Can you please try to separating leg room numbers?
Not meaningful - since the front seat scoots forward and back - you can allocate the available space between the two rows
Interested in a comparison of the non-m40i to the Genesis GV70.

No plugin?
You have a twin in Florida. Red Mach E, light blue shirt and similar hair cut.
Unless that was you on the Florida HWY 1 in the Keys.
all my local dealers had the 30i model and no fog lights on any of em.
Manufactures are going away from fog lights now that LEDs have taken over.
At this point I can say BMW designers have lost their minds
Alex how is the sound system compared to RDX, which one sounds better meaning cleaner just better.
anyone know what colour this X3 is?
Is the plug in hybrid still available in the 2022 X3?

BMW wants you to upgrade to an X5 or reach for an iX instead.
You're not honest when you write bmw x3 but you bring out the best bmw x3 M40i here? Why? Must do right whatever you get ok.
Looks like a souped up Forester.
No Fogs and no radar adaptive cruise and no ventilated seats??? What???? Joke😝😝😝😝....buy a corolla at fraction of price💥
You have to pay for radar cruise , if you get ventilation, the seat changes, it's an option.
