It is soooo fun to drive. I have a 23 model an love it ! My only gripe is that the seating position could go a bit lower. I love to sit really low. The GLC 43 lets you sit low to the floor.
I love my 23 x3M40i its very quick than what “BMW” claims lol , us BMW enthusiasts knows that BMW highly underrates their cars. I love the exhaust note on the B58. My x3 is in black sapphire with the hi performance jet black wheels , black shadow pk w tacora red interior
I have this model 30i xd and I can confirm 8l/100km (29,5mpg) is achievable on short distance commuting. Driving a bit more sporty or fast on highway, is instant north from that.
@@johnnymartin4688 I like the 2023 better but opted to switch off the map display between the speedometer and tach. I don't need to repeat the map display where it takes my eyes off the road. I opted to display the HP and torque meters to the left of the tach. The M40i doesn't display the tach on the heads up display like the pure M. I think they are being petty with something that I'm sure could be easily switched on at no cost to production.
@@pl.2828 Should have a softer setting for the suspension. Headlight distance could be better. Small opening part of the pano roof. More contoured and cushy rear seats (especially hard in leather trim). Should be able to double press power button to truly turn off everything without locking the doors. Shouldn’t lose foot-activated hatch just because you opt for the tow hitch. More piano black plastic than ideal. Should allow the electronic parking brake to be automatically engaged and disengaged when go in and out of park.
In real world driving I don’t find you sacrifice fuel economy going with this engine over the 4cyl Turbo. If anything, it’s even better. We have averaged 25-26mpg since new in mostly city driving with some freeway. We get 33mpg avg in straight freeway driving. That is light years better than it’s direct competition.
I believe one difference in the coming 2024 model will be a move to the latest panoramic front display and newest iDrive software and loss of many tactile touch buttons...not our favorite and one reason why we ordered the "old school" dash design on our 2023 x3 M40i.
I love all the dumb comments people have made on this x3 . "Too expensive, bad design," if its too expensive, dont buy it, change the channel. This vehicle is a special model ans those who understand it will buy it. Simple.

Nice review! I have a 2023 X5 with the inline 6 and it only cost a few thousand more than that X3 so not sure about the value proposition but the performance and mileage of the X3 are unbeatable in its class in my opinion.
I have one and the vehicle is great to drive. I wish the could package this with some of the luxury options of the X5 (acoustic glass on the front windows, electronic steering wheel adjustment, nicer seats with possibly massage function). These would make road trips or longer drives nicer.
I’m cross shopping this with a Volvo XC60 Recharge. Interior in the Volvo is nicer…higher quality leather, but not a fan of the infotainment system - much prefer the buttons / knobs in the X3. Volvo specs all their XC60s with all season tires though, regardless of wheel size, while most X3 M40i’s come with 20 or 21 inch wheels with performance or high performance tires. Not a fan of that. You’d think all season tires would be the default, and then if you lived someplace like FL or AZ you could switch to performance tires if you wanted. I live in a state that gets snow. Actually had a BMW salesman tell me that because of AWD, it doesn’t matter - that you could still drive in the snow with performance tires. BMWs own website says performance tires are NOT for inclement weather, and high performance tires are for dry conditions only! Guess salesmen will say anything to make a sale. 😂
"performance tires" is just a generic term. It's winter right now and I have ... high performance WINTER tires on my car, it's my second set (and I run summers from April to Nov) So I have no clue what your dude said about which tires. There's winter tires, all season tires, and summer tires, and they all have various degrees of performance variants, albeit, summer tires are ALWAYS high performance, and the lowest grade summer tires will be more sticky in correct (over 40F) conditions than the highest grade all season tires, the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 (different from Pilot Sport 4S, these are summer tires) Anyway, yes the X3 M40i 21s are summer tires. For the 20s you have several options. If you are questioning the use of summer tires on a performance vehicle, I don't know if the performance vehicle is for you, as you obviously never take turns fast, otherwise you'd know the huuuge chassis difference and how the XC60 Recharge was not a competitor... This thing handles like every SUV, not much grip and lots of body roll, it's a luxury vehicle that happens to have a bit of electric power... That's not what the BMW is... Anyway, go for the Volvo, you'll be happier. Or consider Audi Q5E, it's wayyyy faster and snappy than the Volvo.
And...we had the wireless charging pad in our former 2019 230i....it did a great job heating up the phone...but very slow to charge it! Was an "easy pass" on our 2023 x3 M40i and saved $500.

He has an older X3 M40d.. That’s 1 of the reasons I ordered 1 for myself..
Idrive 7 is superior to Idrive 8 in so many ways. I purposefully bought a 2023 X3 M40i because I didn’t want the buggy Idrive 8 that eliminates a lot of the nice functionality of Idrive 7 and really doesn’t add very many new features. And it’s been incrementally updated since 2018 to stay up to date.

Idk its still a 3 series from the inside and is incredibly cheap looking. If I'm getting a BMW I associate it with luxury, the BMW luxury starts with the 5 series/X5 imo. You start to get beautiful seats, gloss/glass/chrome buttons instead of the cheap plastic they have here, higher quality trim, etc. I don't look at the interior of this car and say, "wow thats luxury!". It's like one step up from Lexus.

In terms of driving aspects alone, yes, the Macan is better in every way. BUT, the BMW X3 M340i is more luxury focused, plus it’s cheaper. You can pick and choose what you value…
Macan GTS or S are a lot more money. Yes they are much better and faster, but you will have to pay a lot more. Plus locating one is tougher too. I’m a Porsche guy, but love the X3M40 mainly because of parts are more available and a heck of a lot cheaper. B58 is used in a lot of things too.
I don’t know. I cross shopped this to a Macan S and this felt more exciting, fun and engaging AND has more practicality AND is faster AND cheaper. Which is not a knock on the Macan S but this just seemed to be more fun. Perhaps the Macan is more clinically perfect but I wanted to have fun driving

Well, nothing stays the same…except for you maybe? BMW has a better reliability rating than Honda, Volvo etc. they have improved and have their engines really buttoned down well. Which is why Toyota selected the B58 (the same engine as this car) to power the Supra GR. What I think is hilarious is this. Buy a BMW one or two years old. Save yourself a ton of money and you have plenty of money to cover any unexpected costs that may pop up. I know someone who has been driving BMW’s exclusively since 2005 and has had NO major problems at all. He doesn’t lease either. Basically at this point you are spouting off a meme, but there are a lot of ways you could justify “taking a risk” on a BMW without breaking the bank. With rising complexity in all vehicle brands…reliability is taking a hit across the board. If reliability is your primary concern then buy a Toyota…but we both know why they remain reliable don’t we? You can’t stress a car out with only 204hp. That’s their game. Vehicles that are so under-stressed, lack dynamics and handling save for a couple models. Of course a RAV4 will last forever. 🤷♂️

BMW usually good for 80-100k miles then time to open the wallet. They do drive very well. I just test drove an Acura MDX Type S, a competent, well built car with sporty pretensions, but just kinda boring and blah. You probably won’t have to repair it much but if you want a bland and forgettable car it’s the one. The X3M or m40i just a lot more fun.

@@SaraH-en3mgBMW WAS known for that. They fixed quite a few of the issues on this powertrain. For starters, the turbo no longer cooks the components. It has redundant heat shields with absolutely nothing close to the turbo and the coolant is now on the other side of the engine compartment.
One might get an M235i, X1, or X2 for the badge but an X3 is a legit BMW and those who know BMWs well usually gravitate to the smaller true RWD-biased BMWs like the 2, 3, 4, X3, and X4. They are the best driving BMWs.
I’ve had this vehicle for a year. And I STILL love driving it everyday. It is by far the most fun vehicle I’ve ever owned.
I absolutely love this powertrain. In fact, we loved it so much we got an X3 M40i AND an M340i XDrive!

My 2023 X3 M40i is a blast to drive. I traded in my flawless 2018 X3 when I bought it.

Pretty much the No 1, I had 2020 x3M40i, and recently switched to 2023 one, no really drawbacks, couple small complaints but no car is perfect 😂.

My older bmw would auto engage the parking break when parking on an incline- odd that my new X3m40i can’t do that

@@TheLumberJackedI like Japanese cars but they’re underpowered and boring and also there are problems with Honda and Toyota as well. No Honda or Toyota is going to have the ultimate driving engagement that bmw has.
It is more than a name. I would gladly pay less if I could find something less that was better. The Toyota Camry is a great car but not a BMW.
BMW usually good for 80-100k miles then time to open the wallet. They do drive very well. I just test drove an Acura MDX Type S, a competent, well built car with sporty pretensions, but just kinda boring and blah. You probably won’t have to repair it much but if you want a bland and forgettable car it’s the one. The X3M or m40i just a lot more fun.
P. O. S. Of course they nice for first 50 k mi but good luck after tht I never understood people buying the cheapest luxury cars when there are other nice cars that you can get trimmed up for cheaper and that are 10 times more reliable people still care about the stupid name and it's sad
B58 motor in these is proving to be extremely reliable. So much in fact that Toyota uses it.
@@GlobexMicros the engine is not the only component of the car, lots of other moving parts that can cause issues and BMW is known for that.
@@SaraH-en3mgBMW WAS known for that. They fixed quite a few of the issues on this powertrain. For starters, the turbo no longer cooks the components. It has redundant heat shields with absolutely nothing close to the turbo and the coolant is now on the other side of the engine compartment.
One might get an M235i, X1, or X2 for the badge but an X3 is a legit BMW and those who know BMWs well usually gravitate to the smaller true RWD-biased BMWs like the 2, 3, 4, X3, and X4. They are the best driving BMWs.
When I couldn’t afford a luxury car like bmw I thought that exact same way lol. You’re mad because you can’t afford one😂😂😂
