The fact that he doesn't know it is Bono, singing a U2 song. But at least he likes him... "I love his voice, the power is so good." yeah, Bono is really good
I will never get over Halsey's "It could've been me" performance as it is one of my favorite songs, and I truly NEVER get over Johnny getting his bearings and absolutely DESTROYING his mentor in that battle. Just shows he really is a gentle soul at heart but he can (AND WILL) put you in your place if you get out of line. The character development for him is so nice, he really does got a bit of his Dad's anger in him.
Makes me laugh when you say you know the lion's voice because YES you know it considering it's Bono who voices him. So you literally hear the same person singing the original version and this reprise... And it was just so amazing!
The amazing thing is that Bono had given his approval for the song, but didn't wanted to voice the Lion. When they showed him a version of Scarlett Johansson singing the song, he said that if he was going to sing with her, he'll do the Lion's voice for the movie.
For me, it’s the way the song starts a cappella, but the stadium joins in… and then you hear that guitar, slowly building… and then the RIFF, and the lights, and Bono comes in… Mwah! The goosebumps and the happy crying.
Porsha's performance was, in my opinion, the best performance in the entire movie. Her movements are so energetic and filled with passion and I love how her musical number gets more and more over-the-top, the choir at 6:36, the key transpose and overall just her amazing vocal range.
I honestly LOVED this movie. It's Illumination's best in terms of visuals, imo. The hotel/theater/show design blew me away. I'm not jazzed about regular actors being VAs for the sake of popularity, but those casted did a good job. I was really rooting for our main cast from the 1st film. Perfect sequel, instant comfort movie. It doesn't need to be on par with Disney to be a great film.
The animation is… well, illuminated - bright, clean, GORGEOUS - and the script is well constructed, details are plentiful and funny and cute, the cast is superb, and, best of all - these movies don’t have a single insecure bone in their bodies. Like, I could see ANY number of moments when the characters might make a snarky joke about “oh, we’re singing and dancing, isn’t that cringe?” Or “this is so corny, let’s make fun of ourselves for being sincere” but NO ! Sing and Sing 2 know what they’re about - jukebox musicals with anthropomorphic animals, and nary a drop of cynicism to be found. And it’s SO refreshing that they’re just so unabashedly sincere. I love these movies
Now I'm satisfied that you watched Meena sing. FYI, the monkey was never able to dance. The white cat that was up in the loft cheering for him taught him how to dance because it was needed for the show. The guy who fought him was a former dance teacher of his. It's been a while since I watched the movie, so I can't remember why he started fighting him.
Honestly, a lot better than what Illumination normally puts out. I was pleasantly surprised. Even as somebody who actually quite liked the first movie, I think this one was much better. It's extremely rare that an animated sequel outdoes the original. This movie was the exception!
The whole arc with Johnny in the second movie was him being taught to perform this dance by a very aggressive teacher. That's why we didn't see any of this in his last song.
Johnny easily has the best song in the film. It's not just a matter of how great the singing and dance work is, but like Porsha's (even though I don't think hers was developed as highly leading up to it), it's not just a song about "Sky's in the Stars" or whatever. You can legit tell it has a double meaning to everything with the hardships and everything he’s going through, especially when the dance instructor pops in to put him down again.
For the context behind the lion dude, he and his wife used to write super popular songs, but after she passed away he stopped his career and hid away for 15 years. The characters convinced him to continue and join their play, and he was crying because he missed his wife and the music they made.
You forgot "the elephant" (Meena) singing Hallelujah in Sing1, all the auditions also from Sing1... you forgot Nina's song from Sing2 "I say a little prayer" , Rosita singing "break free" from Sing2, the audition medley songs from Sing2, Johnny singing "There's nothing holding me back" from Sing2 and Scarlett's other song from Sing2 "off with your head". 😅😅
13:06 literally his entire arc in this movie was learning to dance. I still hate the big nosed monkey (former dance instructor). He only got a hit in because Johnny was following the routine and he was purposely screwing it up just to attack Johnny.
@@phastinemoonHow can anyone NOT LIKE her singing? Her runs absolutely itch my brain through my ears in the most delicious way possible, people cannot deny that her voice is godlike and be serious about it-
sorry about the riot we're a starving fandom😂 but! we knew very well you'd love it, that's why we were so excited for you to listen to it😁 happy you reacted to it and liked it!!
When the first Sing wasn’t out yet and they still just had the trailer the trailer starts with Johnny (Taron Egerton) singing a part of a song. His voice was so beautiful and clean that it made me want to watch the movie so when the movie came out I watched it in the theaters and because of that I have a soft spot for Johnny. Also I never listened to the song I’m Still Standing until his performance so now I’ve memorized it and it’s one of my favorite songs.
Johnny was hired a choreographer who was the dude who was fighting him. He didn't learn anything though, because Klaus (the choreographer) kept picking on him, and he couldn't learn with his style. So the white cat banging the drums (Nooshy) gave him some lessons, and he became just as good. The white tiger with the red suit was supposed to fight him in the song, and Johnny was supposed to win, but Klaus got angry and told him to give him the costume. They fought, and Klaus won, which made Johnny mad and Nooshy supported him.
Could've Been Me was my favourite song/moment of the second movie, but the final song was definitely super heartwarming. Also, Taron absolutely went HARD showing anger with just his voice. Matthew getting floored by Mina's singing is great XD
I usually am incredibly critical about musicals and their directing choices (because some can become shit real easily) but these two movies are incredible works by Illumination. The second one for me honestly tops the first because of how much it breaks down characters, just to build them back up. Not to mention the music. These two movies have awakened an insatiable appetite for unique musical covers that'll probably never be sated because of the amount of talent in the world. Also, now that I think about it, Mathew's right about the title of the movie and its sequel: its a command. You must sing, and create your own unique sound.
Really was no better way for the first movie and this video to end but with her singing Don't You Worry. Such a good finale song for this character. Made the mouse eat his words so… definitely worth it. It’s that time again. That time where I recommend the RWBY (pronounced Ruby) soundtrack, starting with Volume 1, continues. Once again because they’re bangers. Lyric vids recommended. When Ash is singing still haven’t found what I’m looking for and Matthew says I don’t know why it’s making me smile so much the reason why it made me smile so much is because the lion is voiced by Bono the lead singer of U2 and it’s just so heartwarming to see him Bring his music to a younger audience because not a lot of younger people know who U2 is and it just made me really happy to see Bono be such an important character in this movie
I don't know if I should give you context if you will see the movies but for the second one, the plot is : . . . the Koala pretended to know this big superstar (play by Sting), and that he was going to be a part of their show. But the koala lied and they have to convince this superstar who isn't singing anymore to be part of their show. The wolf isn't against his daughter singing, he is against her singing with these people who lied and are using the stage without his permission.
Sing and sing 2 are just those movies I will ALWAYS ball my eyes out watching every time - especially Porchia’s performance - the characterisation is so well done, and man Porchia’s character is no exception - just the face of glee she has at the end of her performance bc she’s found a true happiness only she can provide herself - she’s lived a life of comfort but chosing to defy that and do what she loves with her own effort and sheer will- man I love these movies
Yes, I've been waiting for this! I just knew you would react to the songs in Sing 2 Mathew! And I gotta say out of all the sings in th sequel one of my all time favorites is "Could Have Been Me" Porsha has such an amazing and beautiful singing voice and Halsey did an outstanding job voicing the character!!!
I love these movies everyone's so talented in it. I still remember the first time i heard that last song like Tory Kelly is truly untouchable in her talent!
Hell yeah for more Sing! The first time I saw the sequel was late at night. I was laying in bed, chilling and watching the movie. But my god the hype levels went through the roof by the time I got to the big show. During Johnny's show I was seriously tapping the beat against the side of my bed, like I was fully living in that moment, there's no other way to put it. And then seeing Porsha live her best life on stage solidified her place as one of my favorite characters ever. It doesn't matter one bit that she's a fictional character, right then and there I was so proud of my girl. Goddamn I love these movies so much.
This was great. If you decide to do a third (but absolutely no pressure), I once again recommend heads will roll, there’s nothing holding me back, golden slumbers/carry that weight, and the auditions clip from the first movie (the one from the second is good too)
Fun Fact: The only reason they were even allowed to use the U2 songs that they did in the second movie is because Bono voiced the only character other than Ash that sang them.
THESE TWO MOVIES ARE ACTUALLY AMAZINGGGGGG. The songs, the characters, the development! I personally really love Sing 2 (I have it online and watch it like monthly) and ugh just so many good singers. Tory Kelly, Scarlett Johanson, Taron Egerton, Jennifer Hudson?! (She is Nana in the first movie, seriously a shame we don't get to hear her sing a lot), Halsey- Pharrell sings in the second movie!!!! Like it is awesome
For a little context: The lion is an in-universe world-famous musician who completely lost all will to play music when his wife died because he always sang _for her._ The lioness that briefly appears in the background as he's getting ready to play is his wife... indicating she's there with him, in his music, and she'll always be with him in spirit when he plays. That song is the very first time he hit the stage and even played his guitar in _20 years._ Which is why it turns so happy once he' playing.
my best friend has cried during 2 movies in her entire live one of them was sing 2 when bonos character came out and started singing, such an amazing moment in the movie and the way scarlett and bono performed it is so amazing
Comments correct me if im wrong, but the Lion is sad because the song Scar Jo is singing is a song the Lion wrote for his wife right before/right after her death, which caused him to stop performing. In the movie he was a world class singer. So that there singing was the first time he's ever performed since his wife's death.
I watched this movie purely for U2 cause I love them so much and Bono voices the lion. Hearing the songs made me cry and makes me cry everytime. Such gorgeous songs.
I _LOVE_ THE SECOND MOVIE SO MUCH YOU DON'T EVEN KNOWWWW. THE SETS? THE SONGS? THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT OF PORSHA?? AHH AND I STILL HAVEN'T WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR? CHILLS
Once again, this was an uncanny mirror of myself also discovering Sing and Sing 2 by watching only the musical numbers. When did this turn into Alice in Wonderland? Who is this wolf, and why do I love her so much? Why is that lion so sad? Why is that monkey attacking Johnny? ....Did I just watch that mouse die?
The whole Movie itself, seems to build up a story just for the crossing where it hits the big stage, and the story and music twists magically together. And somehow, it works for what they did with the movie. They get you slowly invested in the characters for everything they go through... then BOOM!
Part of me loves watching the out of context of him watching and trying to figure out what the story is 😂 and the other part REALLY wants him to watch the movie and realise what is actually happening PLEASE
been awhile since I watched it so idk if it would be enough footage for a whole video but I recommend checking out the audition scenes of the extras from the first movie, not because they're particularly amazing, but because they're pretty funny and definitely worth a watch
could have been me by the stokes (the song halsey was singing) is SUCH a good song by the og artist highly reccomend you listen to that on its own, you'll love it!
I actually really loved Porsha after watching the movie, a lot of people hated her because she acted like a spoiled brat in the beginning (this girl is on fire) but by the time of the song you watched in this video shes different and it's hard to explain bc I don't wanna spoil stuff but yes thats her dad and shes a great character
its surprising how he tries to understand but why not watch movie then you will understand because after all it like out context videos except is songs but still these songs are awesome and memorable
the whole point of my videos is to see what the songs offer and what can be extracted from them w i t h o u t the movie. i find it interesting to see what happens when they stand on their own
I don't know if you know this, but the lion is named Clay Calloway. The song is sung to represent his wife who had passed away hence why he looked very sad. But Ash talked to him and they sung the song together! ( Sorry if I made mistakes)
Now to watch the movies to complete the saga. Because the songs have that much more meaning when paired with the story and hit so much harder than as just the songs. Though they are great by themselves.
YES!! I absolutely love The Struts and that song, and it’s great that their song got in a movie, but I wish more people were talking about how good the original is!! I love their sound
Dude, it's literally Bono! XD It's the entire reason my family even saw this movie. We were ready to write it off as a cheap cash grab sequel, but my sister got so excited about Bono that we watched it for her. And OH MAN did it exceed all of my possible expectations!
Also, if I remember correctly (which I probably aren't, because it's been years since I saw the first movie and I've not seen the second one) the shaky lizard lady who is also watching every one of Johnny's performances is like his adoptive mother or caregiver who cared for him whilst his dad was in prison. I don't remember for sure but it was something like that I think. Commenters, please correct me if I'm wrong.
You should of done the full movie reaction and cut it up instead of isolated clips so you would understand the context of why the songs are included the way they are as out of context the clips don’t make sense to why characters do certain thing and why they start singing certain songs
10:31 bono singing with scarlet Johansson on I still haven’t found what I’m looking for was amazing that song is probably my favorite song from this movie with could have been me in a close second
How did you call out a parallel between the ape in movie one and the wolf in movie two just from the music videos alone that I somehow missed while watching both films multiple times??? 😂 It really is an amazing connection there.
i hope that now i did the elephant song u guys will no longer come hunt me down 🙃💙

I think knowing it is actually Bono makes that song a million times bigger than it already is
And the story makes it all come together.
I mean, they got a legend to play a legend.
The amazing thing is that Bono had given his approval for the song, but didn't wanted to voice the Lion. When they showed him a version of Scarlett Johansson singing the song, he said that if he was going to sing with her, he'll do the Lion's voice for the movie.

Yes!!! That is my favorite song out of sing two it’s on my favorite’s playlist now.
Hers and the one with Calloway for me. Best character development in the movie.
I love how at the end of the movie Porsha joins them on the bus back to their home, not even caring about what happens to her father after his arrest.
"I was gonna say it sounded like Bono but I didn't want to sound silly"
Mathew it IS Bono 😭
halsey was a surprising BUT GREAT addition to the sing cast SHE SLAYED IT
Hmmm

Comments correct me if im wrong, but the Lion is sad because the song Scar Jo is singing is a song the Lion wrote for his wife right before/right after her death, which caused him to stop performing. In the movie he was a world class singer. So that there singing was the first time he's ever performed since his wife's death.
Exactly
Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing has to be my favourite song from the 1st Sing and Could Have Been Me has to be my favourite from the 2nd one!
Mathew getting shocked by meena's flow gives me life 😭🔥
I watched this movie purely for U2 cause I love them so much and Bono voices the lion. Hearing the songs made me cry and makes me cry everytime. Such gorgeous songs.
Mathew really needs to start watching movies/shows on his channel. I need him to see the full context
He’s reacted to the Lorax movie and the highest rated episodes of a number of cartoons
This movie's version of "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" makes me cry without fail every time
I _LOVE_ THE SECOND MOVIE SO MUCH YOU DON'T EVEN KNOWWWW. THE SETS? THE SONGS? THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT OF PORSHA?? AHH
AND I STILL HAVEN'T WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR? CHILLS
If you do another video on SING, you should react to all the auditions to the singing competition
Honestly, It Could Have Been Me, is my favorite of the second movie, it's such a vibe, and Halsey killed it!!
They get you slowly invested in the characters for everything they go through... then BOOM!
I'm so happy you finally reacted to her song!!
Also can you do more Sofia the first songs please??
Part of me loves watching the out of context of him watching and trying to figure out what the story is 😂 and the other part REALLY wants him to watch the movie and realise what is actually happening PLEASE
been awhile since I watched it so idk if it would be enough footage for a whole video but I recommend checking out the audition scenes of the extras from the first movie, not because they're particularly amazing, but because they're pretty funny and definitely worth a watch
You really should watch the whole movie, it’s so good and watching the songs while knowing the context gives them a whole new meaning
could have been me by the stokes (the song halsey was singing) is SUCH a good song by the og artist highly reccomend you listen to that on its own, you'll love it!
I love the fact that the lion is singing a U2 song and the lion is voiced by Bono
He likes to listen to songs just as they are first
the whole point of my videos is to see what the songs offer and what can be extracted from them w i t h o u t the movie. i find it interesting to see what happens when they stand on their own
You seriously should watch both of these movies; they are so beautiful. 💙
I don't know if you know this, but the lion is named Clay Calloway. The song is sung to represent his wife who had passed away hence why he looked very sad. But Ash talked to him and they sung the song together! ( Sorry if I made mistakes)
13:54 that’s Johnny’s trainer, who would train him to fight and balance well throughout the movie for this scene
This movie is like my biggest comfort movie ever I love it so much 😭
In the first movie, they try to do a singing talent show/competition on stage. In the second movie they want to make a musical on stage or movie
The lion’s lore though got me so sad when I watched this with my younger siblings 😭😭
For a while after seeing this my kid and I were waking up to Sky Full of Stars. Love that movies like this are teaching kids new songs.
Sing and Sing 2 were two of the best cinematic masterpieces made I'm years ❤
Now to watch the movies to complete the saga. Because the songs have that much more meaning when paired with the story and hit so much harder than as just the songs. Though they are great by themselves.
Well now we just need the other Mina song, the Rosita song, Jhonny at the cafe, and the funny auditions and we are good
I’m so sad he didn’t do Nana Noodleman’s performance from the first movie it’s my favorite song cover
Yes! it's so good! hope he dose a part 3 :3
We gonna talk about how wolf girl slayed that song more then humanly possible like that song slaps so hard and she slayed it !
it could have been me was just such a great song, and her arc in the movie was amazing :> Wish more people reacted to this movie.
You’ve really gotta watch both of these movies, such great storylines and fun movies
you must watch those two movies, they are amazingly good
I can't believe I've seen this movie like four times and seeing lion bono with his dead wife in that scene still has me crying
Sing 1&2 are great
The song could have been me is by the band The Struts, and they are my absolute favourite, you should definitely give them a listen
YES!! I absolutely love The Struts and that song, and it’s great that their song got in a movie, but I wish more people were talking about how good the original is!! I love their sound
“when did he learn to do all of this??” funnily enough, in the movie
so glad the movies are getting attention! i love them and never got the hate. people need to stop slandering meena, my girl can SING
Now I really want you to listen to the original version of Let's Go Crazy, it's be Prince and god do I love it.
At 18:27 I was like “oh he’s not ready for the end high note 😂”
I don’t know if Mathew has realized or not - but almost all the songs are covers. I think there is only one or two that are originals
he did, he talked about how the movie put those songs in a new and refreshing way
10:31 bono singing with scarlet Johansson on I still haven’t found what I’m looking for was amazing that song is probably my favorite song from this movie with could have been me in a close second
How did you call out a parallel between the ape in movie one and the wolf in movie two just from the music videos alone that I somehow missed while watching both films multiple times??? 😂 It really is an amazing connection there.
Johnny learning to dance was his entire arc in Sing 2
I haven’t seen Sing 2 and I’m hearing all these for the first time too.
Gen Z musical analysis “she is slaying with those notes” 😅
