  • In this episode, I chat to Keely Lawrence and up-and-coming Dog trainer from my local area.
We cover topics, ranging from getting a rescue dog and some tips to help you settle them into your environment, limitations of certain equipment you may use in training, the reality of how long and difficult it can be to work on reactivity issues with your dog and more.

Husky rescue used to have a bad dog talk about why you don't want this breed, so by the time you read all those reasons and still got a Husky - you knew what you're getting into. Wish every rescue did this. I used to have a free public service for people looking for particular breeds. I researched the breeds they were thinking about, searched local rescues and humane societies/animal shelters, even gave them the old search-a-dog questionnaire which would spit out 3 to 5 breeds based on how they answered the questions. People still picked the complete opposite of what was recommended and then wanted to "fix" the dog. They picked their dog based on looks. Needless to say, I no longer do the free public service. Regardless, they already have the dog and still want help. I now teach at our local dog club. Also, if a collar isn't fitted properly and the dogs have learned how to back out of the collar, they will do it again. Hope that helps.

Hey Jas, the typical Malinois often gets a bad rep. because some owners are not experienced enough in dealing with dominant breeds. Would you consider a podcast with Raptor (Malinois X) showing his inherited behaviors that can't be changed, but successfully managed with ongoing training. Also documenting the many benefits of this guardian breed too. Regards Gaz

Hi mate what i can do is discuss different breeds and talk about what it takes to own them. And the responsibilities that come with it. I can start with Malinois. Allot of people need education.
