    I was on Fin for 11 years. 1 mg 3 x a week. Around year 11 I started to notice my hair thinning again over about at 12 month period of time. I switched to Dutasteride .5 mg 3x a week and it stopped my thinning. I’ve never had any negative side effects from either medication

      100% true ! Finasteride by itself should he enough.
      And if you started at Norwood 3.5 (borderline Norwood 4) or Norwood 5 etc... then you can just add dutasteride once or twice a day on top of your finasteride to make 100% sure you will maintain/ regrow your hair over the next 10 years and even beyond.
      About the same side effects profil between fin and dut anyway so why not combine both in that specific case .

    I've been on finasteride for 14 months already with good results.
    But just to play it safe : 3 weeks ago I started dutasteride at 0.5mg twice a week (on Sunday and Wednesday I take dutasteride) and I take finasteride 1mg the rest of the week .
    Note that I'm also on topical minoxidil.
    No side effects whatsoever since I added dutasteride ! Better than that : my libido actually increased by a lot since I started dutasteride (the increase of testosterone I guess).
    It's also known that dutasteride has more or less the same side effects profil as finasteride so why not use it on top of finasteride for longer maintenance / better long term regrowth.

    • @pablogats4627
      @pablogats4627 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have also been on fin for 14 months with good results and thinking of adding dut at the 2 year mark, I've heard some bad things about dutasteride side effects tho if fin starts loosing it's potency I'll definitely have to take the risk

    • @exactly1176
      @exactly1176 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @pablogats4627 " I've heard some bad things about dutasteride side effects " .
      ---> this doesn't mean anything (aside from being some fear mongering you find on the internet / nocebo effect).
      I would advice you to just look at the scientific date regarding dutasteride and you will see that dutasteride side effects profil is basically the same as finasteride despite blocking more serum DHT (which is very interesting).
      Also, the scientific data shows that for those getting side effects on dutasteride, the side effects will disappear on their own with continued use of dutasteride after 6 months of use. So basically : even if you are in the very small minority getting sides from dutasteride, just keep taking the drug and 6 months later you won't have sides anymore as your body will get used to it.
      Just read the science and forget about everything else. :)

    • @exactly1176
      @exactly1176 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @pablogats4627 yeah it's definitely a good idea to wait 2 years on finasteride before adding dutasteride once or twice a week on top of finasteride. I personally could have been waiting until 2 years but since i wanted to boost my regrowth and since I understood that dutasteride is basically as safe as finasteride : I decided to just add dutasteride to my stack right away just to have my peace of mind and make sure I get much more regrowth / better long term results.
      Edit : adding dutasteride is not always necessary though. Most people will be okay with just finasteride ! As long as you've got enough regrowth/ maintenance with finasteride only and you are satisfied with that : then i think there is just no need to add dutasteride anyway 😉

    One thing few people talk about is that for many guys, hair loss stabilizes in their late 20s-early 30s. And, many men that start to lose their hair don't go fully bald. Some just end up as NW 2/3 or above. They do not get the shiny dome.
    I'll give an example. Me and my brother both noticed that our hair lines were receding at age 18. We are five years apart. I did natural treatments until the age of 22, when I noticed diffuse thinning, and hopped on the meds. My brother did nothing. Zero. At age 35 I've pretty much gone bald at the top of my head. I have a hair line that is NW 2.5, but my hair is super diffuse on top. So, I have chosen to accepted baldness. My brother, who did nothing, is 40 and is a NW 3 at worst, with dense hair everywhere, except his temples. I was a diffuse thinner with fine but voluminous hair, whereas he only ever receded, and his individual hairs were much thicker than mine. Our father, who is in his mid-60, is a NW 1 with black hair still! But his brother, our uncle, went NW 7 by his late-20s and white in his early-40s. Their father, my grandfather, also went bald in his 20s.
    Thus, it is all genetics, and if someone is keeping their hair on fin/min/keto/rolling, it is hard to pinpoint what precisely is playing the most massive role in keeping their hair, as the hair loss may have somewhat or fully stabilized on its own. If you look at videos from that hair transplant doctor on TH-cam ,Gary Linkov, he mentions that in his practice, he notices that hair loss often stabilizes on its own in many patients in their late 20s. It is all about the genetic predisposition to DHT/androgen sensitivity. Since each case is so different, it is a bit hard to pull out conclusions set in stone by studies, but they are the best scientific facts we have on hand.

This was not noticeable to anyone, visually, even thought I could tell a big difference between ages 20 and 23.

  • @mckiki4029
    @mckiki4029 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think when you're experiencing a considerable level of hair at a young age (NW4+ in your 20s) you've already lost a good portion of your hair. Even the hairs that appear "Healthy" are miniaturising, a lot of damage has already been done without you even realising it. Whereas if you start at a Norwood 2-3 then a lot of those hair follicles are still in top form, and are less vulnerable to the residual DHT. Also, many guys that are Norwood 2-3s may not actually be balding as aggressively as anticipated, perhaps they wouldn't have lost much more hair even if they weren't on the medical route to begin with. My uncle was a NW 2-3 in his early 20s and is around a Norwood 3 with slight diffuse (only noticeable under harsh lighting) thinning at 60 and I think many young men who notice hairloss are in the same club

    • @sapujapu6323
      @sapujapu6323 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A large number of men dont go fully bald, while 50% of men notice some form of hairloss by the time they are 50, that doesnt mean half of all 50 year olds are completely bald. I know many people in my family that receeded troughout their 20s and then one day it suddenly stopped and they kept a norwood2.5 or 3 for the rest of their life with otherwise thick hair on top

Stopped completely since then, nothing came back. About 2 years later, went on Finasteride to see if it would bring back what I lost, again, nothing new and shedding for two years, and then my temples were going. Stopped about 2 months ago, and so has my shedding as I now stick with vitamins and anti inflammation shampoos.

    I think the reason guys with less hair loss (lower Norwood) responded better is they are less prone to hair loss genetically. Their hair loss isn't as aggressive, so the drug has less to do to stabilize them.
    The observation in the study about guys over 30 having better results makes sense too. If we have two Norwood 3 guys, one is 20 and the other 30, I'd bet the 30 year old has better long term results with finasteride. His hair loss isn't as aggressive. A bit of DHT reduction is all he needs because his follicles aren't as sensitive as the 20 year old's.

      Classic mistake to think it's not working at 8 months. For most people it takes about 12 to 14 months to just notice some results and sometimes up to 24 months.
      You've got to be patient mate. 8 months is nothing.
      Also don't forget that most of the time you will only see maintenance on finasteride (not regrowth) but if you just got maintenance between month 14 to 24 : just take it as a victory.

    I’ve recently had HT from a reputable clinic in London and I’m on finasteride 1mg daily. I’m only 2 months in and you can imagine things are looking pretty dreadful at this stage, but the hope is there for the coming months. So this is another problem, if you guys started on Fin like at age 19 or 22, then you are screwed down the line in your older years. You will eventually go bald, nothing will stop that. But it if you go on Fin like at 50 or 60, and you are NW 1, then expect to have a full attractive head of hair into your golden years, and maybe even until you die.
