I remember we got this not long after it came out but it was a total surprise, i was only 14 at the time but my oldest brother was 20 and was working so he bought it. Before this, our parents had bought all our systems (2600, NES, and SNES). No one knew what to expect because of so many failed CD systems like the Sega CD, TG-16 CD, CD-i, 3DO, and even the Jaguar CD that came out just after this. We later got the N64, but it didn’t replace the PlayStation at all. I’d say the N64 was mostly a disappointment, and the PlayStation was our go to system for us.
The PS1 is my favorite console of all time. It was the birth of 3D gaming and all the companies were willing to experiment with new ideas. Some were great, some weren't, but it was the biggest period of innovation in the industry imo.
I've been waiting for this one! The consoles I grew up with during childhood and teenage years were the Atari 2600, Master System, SNES, PS1 and N64. I never thought of having a favorite, until my wife asked, while looking at my consoles, if I had to take just one, which one would it be. After thinking for a while, I chose the PS1, with the NES close behind it. It's just so much fun, I still enjoy it to this day, playing a lot of Tenchu lately in order to make a video, but also having fun. Even the boot sequence never gets old for me. I love everything about it. Not to mention all the franchises that originated with the console, along with the fact that while the Genesis challenged Nintendo's monopoly at the time, the Sony PlayStation completely dethroned it, and changed the industry landscape forever. For me, yes, it is indeed the greatest of all time. And of course, along with the N64, I also had many memorable nights of pizza, Coca-Cola, Oreo's and popcorn with friends and family playing multiplayer games, or sharing a controller, awesome times. Resident Evil was the game for me as well, I couldn't stop thinking about it after I saw it! Then later, Silent Hill, Dino Crisis, the RE sequels, and so many others. And to this day, the smooth version d-pad is my favorite of all time. Also, I can't believe that you did the Link cable thing back in the day! Always wanted to do that. As a coincidence, I bought the cable and I'm about to play with my wife, with linked systems, you guess, Doom! It's going to be awesome.
@@r3games1985 Yeah, it's a shame that offline LAN is being killed off on consoles in favor of online only, to push everyone to subscribe to services. We played Dead Island and Resident Evil 5 with system link co-op and it was so much fun, no Internet needed.
Each console generation starting from the Atari 2600 represented and were a big part of my childhood. I grew up with them. The PSX hit just as I turned 16 and got my driver's license. I had a saturn, but the games just weren't there like they were with the Genesis and Sega CD. The games on PSX completely blew me away. Twisted Metal, Tekken, Ridge Racer, Metal Gear Solid, Symphony of the Night, and especially... Resident Evil. Everything felt more "adult" and was just an absolute blast to play. After the PSX, I moved onto PC gaming, and haven't been interested in consoles since.
2:07 ---> I live in Brazil, true that, endless months playing just Virtua Fighter, all the while magazines at the time showing lots of Playstation games. The transition was kinda mandatory.
Great games came from here. Had it from launch. i hear you on trust issues i spent massive doe on NeoGeo Turboduo Saturn 3DO. But games like beyond the beyond , resident evil , tekken , twisted metal. i Hear you bout Saturn i loved mine.
I was one of the millions who bought it right when final fantasy 7 came out. That game was the big one in my memory for the playstation. I already had a N64, but after FF7, i was a convert. I ended up getting into modding and learned how to solder the mod chip into it and went crazy with tons of games after that. Back in the day that you had to actually solder the chip into the system and if you fucked it up, your system was fucked lol.
You know what I'd say its practically a toss up between PSX and SNES as far as classic systems.. I too was skeptical about all the 90's consoles coming out and trying to eclipse what Nintendo and Sega were doing.. I still was feeling a little burnt being I recalled choosing TurboGrafX over Sega for my 15th birthday.. It wasn't a bad system or anything.. Far from it.. But I'm still kicking myself for not getting the ol Genesis.. Funny I had a Game Gear but not a Genesis.. I was a weird kid! Anyways from what I remember I was addicted to playing fighters like Street Fighter & MK on my SNES.. I saw circa the later 90's how Sony had a better selection with that particular genre.. So ultimately I ended up getting the system Christmas '98.. I started with Tekken 3 and Street Fighter Ex.. As I started getting a few more games I noticed my PSX was defective as it would freeze up when I'd play lots of times.. So I got the PS 1 mini model I think it was Dec 2000.. I got it along with Silent Hill which was somewhat of a different genre for me.. I had looked for it previously but with no luck.. It appeared to be cool advertised in one of my gaming magazines.. Thankfully it was a great choice! From that point on I decided to be more of a well balanced gamer.. This is actually how I ended up being an rpg addict.. Getting Chrono Cross got me more knowledgeable about Trigger and so on and so forth.. I was so uninformed prior I kinda just thought Zelda was essentially all there was to that genre.. I've come a long way I'd say.. I mean I started on ColecoVision..
Playstation destroyed and the rest of the industry is still tryin to keep up. I really hope they don’t ruin their rep with this cloud handheld thing (if that’s real?)

Wow that's rad! Nice to have someone to play with like that.

Even though I grew up with the NES, SNES and Sega Megadrive, nothing beats the PS1 for me.
Playstation was so awesome ❤️

oh ya how could i forget Final Fantasy 7

I would call the PS1 the SNES of it's era.
PS1 load time was a killer on some games but FF7 & Resident Evil seal the deal & ED l e-mail u but didn't get a reply yet about the Ninja Gaiden
For me, the snes is the eternal king.
Facts. But the PS surpassed it in many ways. What made the Snes so great was the great game devs that all moved to the playstastion after.
@@r3games1985 yup, PS1 really felt like the successor to the SNES. Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Castlevania, Dragon Quest all jumped ship.
@@r3games1985 ps1 was 3d, but the games were ugly. If you play a snes game today, its still great, but if you play a ps1 game, it seems outdated.
@@cadugarcia81 That's why you have to play on a CRT.
SNES was nostalgic but PSOne was better. I also was a hater and it turned me into a believer 😅.
Can you do a remake redo on Madmax nes game

You need to do an Original Xbox vid
Sry not Retro.
No.
