I live in Seattle and am very proud that the police had the sense to back off for while. Sooner or later the protesters will get tired and go home. This is what even handed policing looks like. If this were a bunch of displaced republican farmers protesting bank foreclosure on their land this is exactly how this would be handled. The area occupied is not a big residential area. I would guess no more than a few houses are inside the protest zone and only half a dozen businesses. The protesters have been peaceful. No burning buildings, no burning cop cars. When the police tried to stop the WTO protest in down town Seattle in1999 millions of dollars worth of damage and days of violence and disruption resulted. This occupied zone is a much better situation though I an sure the authoritarians all have their underwear in a knot. In years past Seattle police were notorious for shooting unarmed minority suspects to the point that the DOJ was called in to investigate and new police policies and over sight were put in place. She was put under a restraining order from using any force and ordered to abandon that precinct by the mayor. She is in a difficult situation following the orders of the mayor and still trying to keep some semblance of order and the rest of the city. But the mayor is putting her in a prime position so that most people like you will blame the chief for the outcome of the situation and that will be a scapegoat ready.
Hold them accountable for violent actions and hold them to the same laws the break and violate. Prosocute them for unlawful actions perpetrate under the law!

I live in Seattle and am very proud that the police had the sense to back off for while. Sooner or later the protesters will get tired and go home. This is what even handed policing looks like. If this were a bunch of displaced republican farmers protesting bank foreclosure on their land this is exactly how this would be handled. The area occupied is not a big residential area. I would guess no more than a few houses are inside the protest zone and only half a dozen businesses. The protesters have been peaceful. No burning buildings, no burning cop cars. When the police tried to stop the WTO protest in down town Seattle in1999 millions of dollars worth of damage and days of violence and disruption resulted. This occupied zone is a much better situation though I an sure the authoritarians all have their underwear in a knot.
