As a book reader, I actually love the way Alicent is portrayed. In the book which is essentially a subjective history book, it is easy to hate her and her obnoxious desire for Aegon to be on the thrown because you dont get much background on who she truly is. But we get a fully fleshed out complex and nuanced character in the show. She does what she believes is right and honorable, even if theres a ton of collateral or if she’s conflicted about it. I love that we get to see some of her turmoil, it makes her ending make much more sense to me now. Loving this series SO much and your guy’s take!
agree! It’s nice to see each side compromise their values in the name of power. The small folk are screwed no matter what & it’s smart of the writers to show this from the start.
I hope on the last episode a giant time jump happens to Grand Maester Munkun writing the book. In a way to sort of justify some of the changes to the book, the fact that the entire story is a history book and the events are subjective and “biased” means anything the show does can potentially been an interpretation of the book.
I think Otto was projecting his own motivation and desires onto Rhaenyra and Daemon from the beginning. Some of the stuff he said to Viserys back in the early episodes about Daemon applies to Otto even more than it does Daemon.
Alicent’s character is one of the most complex of the show. Even though I want Rhaenyra to ascend, I completely understand why Alicent acts the way she does.
The dilemma of her position is that even if she thinks Rhaenyra’s children are bastards, and not deserving of rule - they’re not the ones ruling when Viserys dies. It’s Rhaenyra and she’s true Targaryen. So she can’t put Aegon on the throne self-righteously. That’s why that Viserys last words moment was needed.
How that? She's supporting a Rapist as king... She is a hypocrite, like most of the Greens, she just wants to paint herself as a "good person" but she's one of the worst.
Anyone notice how the maid informed the white worm about the king's death by lighting the candles on the window similar to how they were supposed to be done in Winterfell by Theon to save Sansa
When you asked " Who's gonna tell Aegon about the prophecy?" I think that is exactly where they're going with it. The prophecy and dragons will both be lost to history in the Dance thus explaining why the kingdom is wholly unprepared in GoT.
I think it will be different groups learning different parts. In GoT, The Starks know that Winter Is Coming, and the Red Lady knows about the Prince that was Promised. That is why they need to unite the realm, to learn the whole prophecy

I love that Aemond tells Ser Criston that they are both decent men with no taste for depravity… Well… Sad thing is, Aemond is who he thinks they both are (at this moment) but Ser Criston is a violent, vengeful, bitter man who attacks a man from behind (as he did in the very first episode during his duel with Daemon) and pretends he is honourable. Ser Erryk is the underrated hero this episode. He sees things as they truly are.
Honestly, I don't think Alicent wanted Rhaenyra to die either...regardless of feelings towards each other, deep deep deep down inside Alicent still does care about Rhaenyra. So glad Alicent is FINALLY getting a backbone and hitting back at Otto, her eye roll when he tells her she looks like her mother is priceless...!

After spending YEARS with Viserys, and having endless conversations about his succession, it’s highly questionable to me that Alicent would suddenly be SO gun-ho about his wish that Aegon be king. She asked him, “Ageon? Or son?”, and he never confirmed. Imo, she’s being blinded her own ambitions, rather than a true misunderstanding. She sure is eager and quick to believe a dying, out of it, man.
Alicent didn’t suddenly wish Aegon to be king. That was ALWAYS the case (remember when she warned Aegon, when he was jerking off by the window, that he needed to prepare to be king) until the last dinner with the whole family, when she told Rhaenyra that she would be a good queen. Viserys’ last words just swung her back to where she was. Even if she Viserys didn’t say it, there was no way Otto would allow anything otherwise.

I loved the touch of Aegon asking Alicent whether she loves him. And her response being to call him an imbecile. It perfectly sets up WHY he is so responsive to the adulation of the crowd: it’s a replacement for everything he never got from his mother. (And, in that moment, I sensed shades of Joffrey in the making. I don’t think this will be a good or benevolent reign.)
This show is literally the master at getting better every week! Incredible episode! Also hats off to Ser Harold, I really hope we see him again in the finale he's maybe a dark horse for most under rated character in the show.

@@CulperCast I found this episode probably one of the weakest (still good) because of how different it was to the books? Otto plotting behind Alicent's back, Rhaenys and Meleys scene at the dragonpit, the drawn out plot to find Aegon. It just felt a bit jarring to me.
the two biggest what ifs to me this season so far. 1) what if Viserys named Daemon hand of the king after Lyonel. 2) what if Rhaenys killed Aegon & Aemond there.
Mine is, what if Aemond had been fostered with Rhaenyra after the eye incident, as Viserys’ way of forcing the boys to bond. Also, if Rhaenys had just literally killed Otto, Criston and Larys. Cut the heads off the snake.

What has Aegon done that could be seen as redeemable. I remember people reacting the same way to Khal Drogo for how he treated Dany, until he showed himself to be a good husband. I’m sure if Aegon actually did something honorable or worthy, or honestly even bad ass, people would change their opinions like they did for Khal or even Jaimie. Aegon hasn’t done a single thing to warrant admiration. 🤷🏾♀️

People said the same thing about Jaime after he pushed Bran out of the window, but his actions changed people’s minds. I actually saw a lot of comments even having sympathy for Aegon this week because of his cries to be left alone, where as last week they hated him to his core. I doubt any action would make anyone their favorite, but fiction allows for redemption where reality doesn’t. There is no reason, at this point, for anyone to be willing to overlook Aegon’s misdeed because he has done nothing good. We’ve only seen a monster.

Meleys is so beautiful. That red dragon is just fierce as her dragon rider. Rhaenys really showed dominance here, so good to see her got her time to finally shine. One of the best characters in 7 kingdoms.

I truly feel bad for Alicent in this situation, it sounds like the biggest lie she could possibly tell but she isn’t lying at all and the problem lies in one huge misunderstanding that can never be corrected. What a mess of a situation..
It is a lie though, she heard what she wanted to hear. She knew very well he was not in his right mind and was not talking to her. She has convinced herself of the lie to where now she believes it because in her heart she wants the power, hence her reaction to "have you never imagined yourself on the iron throne." She knew Viscerys was confusing her with Rhyanera, the entire conversation she was confused until she heard Aegon and ran with it. This is what power hungry people do, they hear what they want to hear and then convince themselves it is what it is
After this episode, I expect the number of people anticipating Criston Cole's death have gone up exponentially. Be patient. You will be very satisfied.
In the beginning at the table, it even looked like she was doubting it for a second. She heard what she wanted to hear ultimately. And even if she hadn’t said anything, Otto and the small council were plotting and scheming on taking the throne and taking out Rhaenyra anyway. They were going to start a civil war whether Alicent said anything or not. Daemon was always right about Otto lol.
I just noticed that at 6:26, the sword on the back of the Iron Throne is actually one of Geralt's swords from The Witcher, and one that I own. I mean, they are rather cheap so it's cool that they used it

I have not felt so much hatred for a character like I do for Ser Criston since Joffrey and Cersei, I can't stand him!! I was so frustrated during all the episode but damn HOD does not disappoint with their endings, the badass Princess Rhaenys!! I jumped out of my seat and screamed, YESSSS YESSSSS YESSS now DRACARYS DRACARYS!!! It gave me goosebumps, I couldn't calm down for a while, so cool so badass. Seeing her with her armor riding Meleys brought tears to my eyes for some reason. Heleana called it though: "Beware the beast beneath the boards"
Ironic how Criston wouldn't be a factor if Rhaenyra didn't demand he sleep with her. But she corrupted him, and now he's her enemy for life. I have no idea why Rhaenys was wearing armor. It's like how North Korea shoots off missiles all the time that never hit a foreign target. I'm sure Viserys and the other people who the Hightowers murdered feel vindicated that Rhaenys blew some bad dragon breath on them. Then left. Justice is served....
I remember when all the reactors who never read the books thought he was going to be another honorable Jon Snow. Right up until the 5th episode where he started showing his true colors. The thing is that all of this would have been set in motion regardless of Alicent misunderstanding Viserys. Otto and the council already had the coup planned. Rhaenys is my new favorite. Hands down!
Remember that the Small Council was already planning the coup long before they had any idea about the nonsense that Alicent is informing them now of. Alicent's misunderstanding of Viserys primarily only serves to give her a genuine reason for pursuing Aegon's crowning. However, civil war was inevitable regardless. Even if Alicent didn't tell Otto that, he was probably already planning to tell the people of the realm some similar bullshit anyways...or not. But he was always going to put Aegon II on the throne. This just gives Alicent the motivation to wholly endorse what the Small Council was scheming to do the whole time. No matter what the specifics ended up being, Otto and his minions had long guaranteed civil war was the only possible outcome.
Rhaenys is amazing and I bow down to the Queen who should have been! The moment of her on dragonback facing Alicent all I could think was there is your answer. 👏👏👏
So the Hightowers do straight treason against her brother in front of her face, murder innocent people all around her, plot to murder her grandkids, and she sits on a dragon...and does NOTHING?! She would've been worse than Viserys...at least he threatened to cut Daemon's tongue out. No, things played out exactly how they should've with her. And she herself has said so many, many times.

@@CulperCast It’s not being a hater to criticize someone’s action (esp because I like Rhaenys a lot). But she had an entire night to contemplate this. She could’ve saved tens of thousands of lives, including her beloved family members had she taken the Greens out right there and then. Granted - it would’ve been against her nature to do it, and a tough decision (I think she was very tempted until she saw Alicent move in front of Aegon to shield him, and then her maternal instincts hit). There are many moments like this in every show (and I guess no future shows if characters do the smart thing). Theon should’ve cut Ramsay’s throat when he was shaving him, Sansa should’ve quickly pushed Joffrey off the plank, etc… But at times, there are moments where the good character makes the tough choice (but in turn, saves so many more future lives) like Jon Snow killing Daenaerys.

Meleys is actually the swiftest, and the fastest dragon of them all, easily out flying caraxes in the books too. One of my favorite dragons. Plus, I can’t wait for the next episode.
Some people say Aegon will be like Joffrey as King, but I don't think he'll have the cruel streak that Joffrey had, more like he'll just use his power as an excuse to have feasts and parties instead of being a proper king. I also agree with Aemond that HE would make a better king, and Rhaenys is the most badass character in this episode XD Melys is gorgeous, too.
Aemond would be a tyrant that no one around him would be able to stop. Aegon will bring the crown down with depravities and will turn his back on those that are in need. Both would kill anyone that would question them.
This show doesn’t miss!!!! I was going to watch Rings of Power after Hot D wraps up but I can’t imagine it coming anywhere near this show when it comes it’s writing. The tension in these last few episodes is on another level and the finale is going to outrageous.
Aegon is the rightful king. Rhaenyra and her strong children have no claim. But of course, people call this messed up and not Rhaenys' murder of innocent civilians.
Although I was rooting for alicent over Otto. I don't think she is dense enough to think he really wanted her son to be king. Even aegon knows there was no way. She is using it to do what she wants.
i love how alicent's greens are doing to rhenaerya what otto said she'd do to alicent's kids. the greatest hypocrite and liar of all is otto, he projected so much of his own wills, wishes and desires on them, green is definitely the right colour for them. all sitting on their own throne of self righteousness
I felt Rhaenys busting through floor was visually awesome but unnecessary since she didn’t kill the family and just escaped. However, I would debate she didn’t do it because she would of been a kinslayer (or whatever the correct term is for killing 2nd cousins or whatever). Also, where did the Captain of the Kingsguard go? I’m assuming he made off for Dragonstone?
I haven't had any issues with the time skips but the way this episode picks up immediately after that last and continues the story of one day is amazing.

It’s not a feeling. It’s blatantly obvious. But he’s not a totally awful person because if he was, he’d have his brother killed. He certainly had the chance when they first found him. Or at least take Aegon’s offer to let him sail away forever.

I don't see Helaena falling madly in love with Aemond and I also don't think Aemond would even touch Helaena in that way unless it was for advantage or duty. The comment young Aemond made about how he'd marry Helaena for duty seemed far too clinical and matter of fact instead of something like longing or jealousy. I also think Aemond just wants Aegon to take this seriously. I don't think he wants to have his brother killed.

I think Otto was projecting his own motivation and desires onto Rhaenyra and Daemon from the beginning. Some of the stuff he said to Viserys back in the early episodes about Daemon applies to Otto even more than it does Daemon.

Alicent’s character is one of the most complex of the show. Even though I want Rhaenyra to ascend, I completely understand why Alicent acts the way she does.
The dilemma of her position is that even if she thinks Rhaenyra’s children are bastards, and not deserving of rule - they’re not the ones ruling when Viserys dies. It’s Rhaenyra and she’s true Targaryen. So she can’t put Aegon on the throne self-righteously. That’s why that Viserys last words moment was needed.

When you asked " Who's gonna tell Aegon about the prophecy?" I think that is exactly where they're going with it. The prophecy and dragons will both be lost to history in the Dance thus explaining why the kingdom is wholly unprepared in GoT.
I think it will be different groups learning different parts. In GoT, The Starks know that Winter Is Coming, and the Red Lady knows about the Prince that was Promised. That is why they need to unite the realm, to learn the whole prophecy

After spending YEARS with Viserys, and having endless conversations about his succession, it’s highly questionable to me that Alicent would suddenly be SO gun-ho about his wish that Aegon be king. She asked him, “Ageon? Or son?”, and he never confirmed. Imo, she’s being blinded her own ambitions, rather than a true misunderstanding. She sure is eager and quick to believe a dying, out of it, man.
Alicent didn’t suddenly wish Aegon to be king. That was ALWAYS the case (remember when she warned Aegon, when he was jerking off by the window, that he needed to prepare to be king) until the last dinner with the whole family, when she told Rhaenyra that she would be a good queen. Viserys’ last words just swung her back to where she was. Even if she Viserys didn’t say it, there was no way Otto would allow anything otherwise.

I actually saw a lot of comments even having sympathy for Aegon this week because of his cries to be left alone, where as last week they hated him to his core. I doubt any action would make anyone their favorite, but fiction allows for redemption where reality doesn’t. There is no reason, at this point, for anyone to be willing to overlook Aegon’s misdeed because he has done nothing good. We’ve only seen a monster.

In the beginning at the table, it even looked like she was doubting it for a second. She heard what she wanted to hear ultimately. And even if she hadn’t said anything, Otto and the small council were plotting and scheming on taking the throne and taking out Rhaenyra anyway. They were going to start a civil war whether Alicent said anything or not. Daemon was always right about Otto lol.
I just noticed that at 6:26, the sword on the back of the Iron Throne is actually one of Geralt's swords from The Witcher, and one that I own. I mean, they are rather cheap so it's cool that they used it

I have not felt so much hatred for a character like I do for Ser Criston since Joffrey and Cersei, I can't stand him!! I was so frustrated during all the episode but damn HOD does not disappoint with their endings, the badass Princess Rhaenys!! I jumped out of my seat and screamed, YESSSS YESSSSS YESSS now DRACARYS DRACARYS!!! It gave me goosebumps, I couldn't calm down for a while, so cool so badass. Seeing her with her armor riding Meleys brought tears to my eyes for some reason.

The thing is that all of this would have been set in motion regardless of Alicent misunderstanding Viserys. Otto and the council already had the coup planned. Rhaenys is my new favorite. Hands down!
Remember that the Small Council was already planning the coup long before they had any idea about the nonsense that Alicent is informing them now of. Alicent's misunderstanding of Viserys primarily only serves to give her a genuine reason for pursuing Aegon's crowning. However, civil war was inevitable regardless. Even if Alicent didn't tell Otto that, he was probably already planning to tell the people of the realm some similar bullshit anyways...or not. But he was always going to put Aegon II on the throne. This just gives Alicent the motivation to wholly endorse what the Small Council was scheming to do the whole time. No matter what the specifics ended up being, Otto and his minions had long guaranteed civil war was the only possible outcome.
That explosion and then seeing the princess on the dragon was EPIC!!! 🙌🏼

So the Hightowers do straight treason against her brother in front of her face, murder innocent people all around her, plot to murder her grandkids, and she sits on a dragon...and does NOTHING?! She would've been worse than Viserys...at least he threatened to cut Daemon's tongue out. No, things played out exactly how they should've with her. And she herself has said so many, many times.

@@CulperCast It’s not being a hater to criticize someone’s action (esp because I like Rhaenys a lot). But she had an entire night to contemplate this. She could’ve saved tens of thousands of lives, including her beloved family members had she taken the Greens out right there and then. Granted - it would’ve been against her nature to do it, and a tough decision (I think she was very tempted until she saw Alicent move in front of Aegon to shield him, and then her maternal instincts hit). There are many moments like this in every show (and I guess no future shows if characters do the smart thing). Theon should’ve cut Ramsay’s throat when he was shaving him, Sansa should’ve quickly pushed Joffrey off the plank, etc… But at times, there are moments where the good character makes the tough choice (but in turn, saves so many more future lives) like Jon Snow killing Daenaerys.

IF it wasnt for RHANEYRS and the Commander Westerling and a few other stand out characters, I would have literally loss my dinner.. that is how despicable the GREENS are.. they evoked that much passion and RAGE from me.. had me SCREAMING DRACARYS up in here!!

Some people say Aegon will be like Joffrey as King, but I don't think he'll have the cruel streak that Joffrey had, more like he'll just use his power as an excuse to have feasts and parties instead of being a proper king.
I also agree with Aemond that HE would make a better king, and Rhaenys is the most badass character in this episode XD

Aemond would be a tyrant that no one around him would be able to stop. Aegon will bring the crown down with depravities and will turn his back on those that are in need. Both would kill anyone that would question them.
Aemond is a vengeful bitter man who seeks aggression not the best qualities for a king tbh

That roar was basically the declaration of war and Rhaenys showing her allegiance to the Blacks.
This show doesn’t miss!!!! I was going to watch Rings of Power after Hot D wraps up but I can’t imagine it coming anywhere near this show when it comes it’s writing. The tension in these last few episodes is on another level and the finale is going to outrageous.

Aegon is the rightful king. Rhaenyra and her strong children have no claim. But of course, people call this messed up and not Rhaenys' murder of innocent civilians.
Although I was rooting for alicent over Otto. I don't think she is dense enough to think he really wanted her son to be king. Even aegon knows there was no way. She is using it to do what she wants.
It didn't matter what the queen thought she heard. Otto had this plan in motion to install Agon king anyway.

i love how alicent's greens are doing to rhenaerya what otto said she'd do to alicent's kids. the greatest hypocrite and liar of all is otto, he projected so much of his own wills, wishes and desires on them, green is definitely the right colour for them. all sitting on their own throne of self righteousness
I felt Rhaenys busting through floor was visually awesome but unnecessary since she didn’t kill the family and just escaped. However, I would debate she didn’t do it because she would of been a kinslayer (or whatever the correct term is for killing 2nd cousins or whatever). Also, where did the Captain of the Kingsguard go? I’m assuming he made off for Dragonstone?
I haven't had any issues with the time skips but the way this episode picks up immediately after that last and continues the story of one day is amazing.

@@Sharpe1502 that can be a possibility but I think they're Aegons because Aegon has some offsprings outside of the red keep. Also I feel Aemond didn't have time for girls and was training to fight the whole time
It’s not a feeling. It’s blatantly obvious. But he’s not a totally awful person because if he was, he’d have his brother killed. He certainly had the chance when they first found him. Or at least take Aegon’s offer to let him sail away forever.
yes, he likes to be King but he is loyal to his brother and still loves his family, so he will stand by his side and help him
@@Mason-ty2dq I agree and there's literally no reason/evidence for that to be a thing. I don't see Helaena falling madly in love with Aemond and I also don't think Aemond would even touch Helaena in that way unless it was for advantage or duty. The comment young Aemond made about how he'd marry Helaena for duty seemed far too clinical and matter of fact instead of something like longing or jealousy. I also think Aemond just wants Aegon to take this seriously. I don't think he wants to have his brother killed.
Cant help, but feel like we are gonna get super teased in the season finale with something really important. Only to have to wait till next season.
