@@HeisenStark13 I yelled twice that she shouldve retreated. But Rhaenys probably had the thought of redeeming herself for not burning the greens during the coronation of the usurper by taking down both. But that is just me.

Meleys looking back at Rhaenys, Rhaenys ordering Meleys to attack after Sunfyre fell, knowing she could’ve gone, and then when Meleys looked back and stared at Rhaenys as Vhagar crushed her throat between her jaws, it’s so tragic. I sobbed. I’ve read the book, I know what happens, it doesn’t lessen the blow. It’s even worse that this season specifically they’ve given personalities to the dragons, their design vary a lot, it’s all to make it hurt worse, because they feel like our pets do, in their quirks and mannerisms. It’s heartbreaking. I cried during the reaction as well. And my girl, Rhaenys, you will be missed.
I was ready for some action but damn I didn't think this would happen in this episode. I actually cried. RIP Rhaenys and Meleys!!! And I felt really bad for Sunfyre too. Also Alicent is 100% right about Aegon. Getting rid of Otto was stupid and Alicent actually has experience ruling but they cut her out. Sucks to suck.
The poor baby was terrified as soon as he realized it was a battle. I swear I started crying because it reminded me of dogs reactions when they get attacked out of nowhere by other dogs. Poor thing was screaming and begging its rider to leave. Idk if they are going to just kill it by next episode, looked like it died 🥺🥺
Nah, the entire episode should have been the battle while everything that came before it could have had its own episode. There's no excuse to rush the large scale action set pieces when Game of Thronss did it fine. We waited two years for this and I think episodes like 2x9, 4x9, and 6x9 of GOT holds a high standard of what we could have gotten.
@@SethpelepchukThere was even buildup and drama before the big battles in 2x9 and 6x09. If the battle was this whole episode, it would’ve dragged on for too long like The Long Night. You don’t drag out action scenes, you let them play out in the appropriate time they need it to.

Later, after Rhaenys survives Vhagar’s assault and has every opportunity to get away, she makes the decision to turn back and face Aemond. “That decision became the tentpole of the scene, shaping everything else around it,” Taylor says. “It goes way back to season 1, to her decision not to toast the Greens when she could have, and to the death of her grandson [Elliot Grihault’s Lucerys Velaryon] at the hands of this very beast. She has to go back in.” from an Interview with the director
We wanted action but I was not ready to feel so bad for the dragons, I know that they will die eventually, all of them, but seeing them suffer was very hard to watch for me, Sunfyre suffering at the end and you could feel the bond between Rhaenys and Meleys, I was crying so much😢 she was indeed the best character and the deserved to be queen.
Dragons are not horses. They were meant for fire and battle. It's why they have talons that can gut other dragons and Fire pit stomachs. It's instinctual for htem. No need to feel sorry for them.
@@oliviariv Ummm....I think that if I want to feel bad for them its kinda my business, just saying, I'm allowed to cry and feel bad for a CGI dragon if I want, even if they are meant for battle. You do you and I'll do me. To each their own
Rhaenys needed to let out decades of anger 😂 that’s probs why she never fled. Her crown was taken, her kids gone, her grandkids aren’t really hers. Damn she probs was like “just take me” 😂
First off I just wanna say RIP to Meleys the RED QUEEN !!! She's one of the most badass dragons in the dance, and it was glorious to see her in full display. Even we book readers knew what was coming in this battle(in terms of the victor) it was still a surprise to see how the battle played out, an what actually happened between those three dragons in that battle. IMO if your watching this show and you don't consider these past four episodes as peak TV, then you're watching the wrong show !! 💯
The way Vhagar attacks from below is literally identical to a great white shark. And then there’s the eagle/hawk/falcon-like clawing the dragons do to each other. I love the way their attacks are based on the hunting tactics of real animals.
Really glad with the direction they went with this fight! Rhaenys staying in the fight and not fleeing like a badass! Leaving would make the mission pointless. She would’ve killed Aegon if it weren’t for Aemond which is important with the storyline they are pushing between the brothers! Rhaenys took on both and WAS winning. Aemond had to sneak attack them cause they were getting gassed in the open. Meleys even made Vhagar fall to the ground which is HUGE! Rhaenys’s impact took a heavy toll for Cole, losing so many soldiers for the war. RIP to the queen who should’ve been and to Meleys! 10/10 episode
Yes great episode Rhaenys gave in my opinion Rhaenyra a chance to even the odds in terms of numbers of soldiers. Cole lost a lot and uselessly as Rook Rest’s not a stronghold, Rhaenyra’s key to mainland yes but I’m sure she would have found others. This also shows other houses who haven’t picked a side that Rhaenyra isn’t as weak and ready to fight, as she has been appearing compared to the greens who were gathering a larger army.
Eve Best said that Rhaenys went back because it was her duty like a samurai and she had a small chance to end the war. It was bravery (retreating could have been cowardice)…perhaps a means to make up for the Aegon coronation (according to show’s director).
My thoughts are like... she wasn't going for dragonfire, she was going for claw and jaw. I believe after defeating Sunfyre and seeing Vhagar, which I am sure she was dreading but expecting as a possibility, she again went for claw, I think she wanted to injure/maim the dragons as much as possible if the fight doesn't go her way, to support Rhaenyra. Also her coming back, not leaving after downing Sunfyre and deciding to try and injure Vhagar is very much relating to both her daughter and her Queen. Rhaenyra finally announced she is ready for war, did everything she could to avoid it, and listened to Rhaenys' guidance. Rhaenys previously hesitated and pursued peace too, this was her acknowledging Rhaenyra as a Queen worth dying for. She was finally fully in. And she also decided to die a true dragonrider's death, something her daughter could not do.
I feel like a lot of people use vhagars sneak attacks as a way to discredit her and Aemond, when honestly I think it’s smart. She’s so big and loud, that really the only good way to get a final blow in is to hide and attack by surprise. Sure she has the size advantage in a fight, but we saw Meleys get a few good hits in, and vhagar is so large that it’s crazy easy to see her. The surprise attacks are smart
Yeah, Vhagar isn't built for long dogfights. She's old, cumbersome, and doesn't have the stamina. Striking suddenly and decisively is the wise strategy.
Aegon loves his dragon Sunfyre more than anyone. I think Rhaenys loved her children as much or more than she ever loved Meleys, and probably Corlys too; but she does love Meleys quite a bit; the dragon is part of her.
@@gailf1617 does aegon had that bond with sunfyre like rhaneys and Meleys, eventually aegon didn't know valyrian language well I know Rhaneys love her children and husband but the bond she made with her dragon is unbelievable in the show and in books too. without commanding she controls Meleys also Meleys emotionally connected with Rhaneys.
What I like about the series is because the books are supposed to be a retelling of the Targaryen history from a third-party historian who wasn’t there the small changes from the books kind of feels meta. Everyone who complains the rat catcher story was different. You can contribute it to the historian overdramatizing it. In the books Rhaenys fights 2v1 and was skilled enough to take Sunfyre out the fight….nope it was Aemond in reality and any historian telling it wouldnt assume Aemond would take out his brother the king. There are certain things I think that exist in the books makes for a more compelling story for audiences that have never read the books, but I also like the fact that the books were intended to not be the accurate history and more of the idea that the victor gets to tell history. There is a scene from Game of Thrones, where they make mention of a moment from this series where I am interested to see if they change it and imply that that history was mistaken. If you know the scene I’m referring 👍
I've never read the books but I really like that the book isn't accurate to what really happened (since written by a historian). And this makes so much sense! We often saw in GOT universe that the higher ups often spread false trues to the public and record it in history books. And I bet there will be a lot of things that are different from the book in the show and book readers will rant about it, even tho it's so stupid! I wonder how the end will differ from the books!
Justice for Meleys and Rhaenys When Meleys looked back at Rhaenys .. my heart shattered, you could feel their connection and it really makes you feel the bond between dragons and they riders
The Moon tea works as PLAND D It's to avoid getting pregnant, it's not necessarily used to flush out an already leached out egg. Rhaenyra was given the same a night after she lost her maidenhood and they learn about her midnight stroll with her Uncle. The same one was given to Diana the servant that Aegon Weinsteened minutes after the incident.
Yooooo that's what I'm saying. Once caraxes get that ass lol. Meleyes whooped on sunfyre and tbh she put up a fight against vhagar for that first go around.
@@gonzommz1739 The thing is Caraxes has no fear, he's pure fury. When an animal has no self-preservation instinct it's a lot more dangerous than its size suggests. He's also been in battle way more and a lot more recently than other dragons.

A 'Host' is another name for an Army, so when they say for example Criston's host is on the march- it just means his army, they're complaining they don't have one to march themselves when talking to Rhaenyra's council
Agreed Greg! Rhaenys couldn’t go back again empty handed after last season. This was her chance to makeup for not taking out Aegon when she had the chance, even if she had a small chance to take out Vhagar, she was gonna go for it! 😢
I know some people are mad about Aemond going after his brother. But he wasn’t explicitly going for just him. Aegon and Rhaenys dragons’ were locked together and he saw he had a shot to kill Rhaenys; and if his brother who he hated happened to fall in battle during it Aemond wouldn’t mind. Even last season he told Aegon that he is the one that should be king because he knew how to lead. It gives Aemond more complexity considering he’s already a kinslayer
She went out like a real one. Nearly defeating both Aegon AND Aemond, she could have left at any time. What an amazing end for my favorite woman on the show. The fact that Meleys stayed flying literally until her heart stopped was heartbreaking/incredible, their goodbye was done so well.
She wasnt close to defeating aemond. Even a fight with sunfyre she might have won but then again she wouldve suffered a lot of wounds. Vaghar is just overkill
Feels like a 90% loss to the blacks. Injuring the King is of little consequence when he is neither a good fighter or ruler and his dragon was too little to fight yet. Meanwhile the blacks lost their largest dragon, one of their best riders and war council members plus the castle, another council member and access to the mainland.
Sadly I hate to say it. I find it hard to quit Cristian Cole. After he sent the Twin to his death I thought I was going to turn against him. But in this episode he was a fantastic: Tactical Genius. SURPRISE BIG DRAGON!
Its insane to me that its been 2 years since season 1. I remember when alot of ppl where annoyed that we would have to wait so long for season 2 and yet we are already here. Its scary how fast time has passed. But im not complaining as we have hotd again
this is my attempt to "spell it out" but the show did a amazing job depicting the book for rhaenys' death and that final look between her and meleys after not seeing vhagar on the battle field or around in the sky was her feeling her death coming and accepting it as a dragon rider going out in battle rather than from fleeing.
Let's be real here Rhaenys and her dragon Meleys would decisively defeat Aemond and Vhagar, as well as Daemon and Caraxes, or to be fair almost any other current dragon rider, if the battle is fair. The sole reason for her demise was Aemond's surprise attack. Meleys is unmatched in speed, outpacing all other dragons. Aemond understood that even with Vhagar's immense strength, a fair fight would lead to his downfall.
I don’t know if you guys have talked about this, but I was wondering if you guys watch the last part of the episode where the directors and the actors give their thoughts on the episode. It would be really fun to watch guys react to that since it is also very interesting and helps you understand the episode even more.

I love how everyone stopped fighting once Vhaegar show up.... and Rhaenys would have gotten away but she stood like a Queen! Meleys beautiful dragon😭😭😭
She should have retreated after dropping sunfyre. It was clearly a trap and she knew she had little chance of winning. Now Rhaenyra has lost her biggest dragon and best advisor, for what? Aegon was useless.
@@HeisenStark13 I yelled twice that she shouldve retreated. But Rhaenys probably had the thought of redeeming herself for not burning the greens during the coronation of the usurper by taking down both. But that is just me.
@@HeisenStark13 she probably think, this is the best change they had to take down Vhagar. Or at least incapacitated it. And it's def not a reach since she manage to take it down for a while.
@@HeisenStark13 We still have Vermithor, second largest living dragon to show up later.
*Spoiler Warning*
At least in the books, Vermithor gets claimed by the bastard son Hugh the Blacksmith.
@@erickchristensen746 Looks like they are going down that path, we have already been introduced to Hugh Hammer
Something that makes this even sadder (at least to me) is that according to the family tree I found Maelys was laid by Dreamfyre (Helaenas dragon) who was laid by Vhagar, so Maelys was quite LITERALLY fighting Granny Vhagar
RIP Rhaenys Targaryen, the Queen that never was! And today was her birthday too…
Both the Red Queen and the Queen That Never Was. :(
She would have made an excellent queen 😭😭😭😭
Yeah, Sunfyre was only doing what was asked of him, and now he is suffering horribly.
@@lillianelightwood6464exactly 😢
I hoped we would get another action scene with Rhaenys before this one.
@@lillianelightwood6464 Hell nah Sunfyre survives, he will be one of the more important dragons of this war.
It’s just insane and sad that Rhaneys was killed by her daughters dragon.
Yeah but I guess with dragons it's like once they get a new rider it's like a factory reset on them or something
Rhaenys died as she was: a fucking queen who fights till the end 🔥 she will be remember forever
Hopefully the slow attention span people will stop complaining bout there being no big battles/dragon battles. R.I.P. to the Queen that should’ve been
Nah, the entire episode should have been the battle while everything that came before it could have had its own episode. There's no excuse to rush the large scale action set pieces when Game of Thronss did it fine. We waited two years for this and I think episodes like 2x9, 4x9, and 6x9 of GOT holds a high standard of what we could have gotten.
They’ll just find something else to complain about
lol calm down kunta kinte 😂😂 if they see ur mad they know they’re winning

She has to go back in.”

RIP Rhaenys and Meleys. They both fought bravely
Craziest episode yet 10/10
Hands down my favorite episode so far this season
Alicent said it best "you know what Aemond is"
We wanted action but I was not ready to feel so bad for the dragons, I know that they will die eventually, all of them, but seeing them suffer was very hard to watch for me, Sunfyre suffering at the end and you could feel the bond between Rhaenys and Meleys, I was crying so much😢 she was indeed the best character and the deserved to be queen.
To each their own
"Put a feathered pillow over his head..."
That's so Daemon!!!!!
I read Fire & Blood and knew this was coming and somehow I wasn’t ready for it at all. I’m in tears over here 😭
Rhaenys needed to let out decades of anger 😂 that’s probs why she never fled.
im cried so hard when rhaenys died. she will be missed 😭🩷
The way Vhagar attacks from below is literally identical to a great white shark. And then there’s the eagle/hawk/falcon-like clawing the dragons do to each other. I love the way their attacks are based on the hunting tactics of real animals.
I’m gonna miss Eve Best she was incredible as Rhaenys
-“Host” means an army or large number, like the “heavenly host”
-Aegon: ¿Dónde está la biblioteca?
Her name was Rhaenys, The Queen That Should Have Been!
R. I. P. Rhaenys my heart is broken. 💔💔💔
I’ve read the books and this still was felt new to me. I love this shows universe😭😭😭
Seeing how well they made this fight I can't wait to see Aemond V Daemon / Vhagar V Caraxes
@@stitchedfreedom that’s a great catch re: Rhaenys’ use of jaws and claws
Rhaneys is actual Queen 😢
She loves Meleys more than anyone, But she knows that she is not Coward. she is the Real Queen.
RIP Rhaneys ❤
Aegon loves his dragon Sunfyre more than anyone. I think Rhaenys loved her children as much or more than she ever loved Meleys, and probably Corlys too; but she does love Meleys quite a bit; the dragon is part of her.
@@gailf1617 does aegon had that bond with sunfyre like rhaneys and Meleys, eventually aegon didn't know valyrian language well
I know Rhaneys love her children and husband but the bond she made with her dragon is unbelievable in the show and in books too. without commanding she controls Meleys also Meleys emotionally connected with Rhaneys.
what a beast this Vhagar is!!It is single handedly winning the war for the greens...The historical beast from the period of Aegon's conquest..

RIP Meleys and Rhaenys, the queen that never was (but should've been). I'll really miss her in the show,!
Justice for Meleys and Rhaenys
When Meleys looked back at Rhaenys .. my heart shattered, you could feel their connection and it really makes you feel the bond between dragons and they riders
Best episode yet, setting up for the real dance the second half of this season!
Anyone realize the dragon fighting like eagles
Well I am fucking shook.
Dear god me too!
this is but the first of many
The Dance of Dragons has truly begun.
In all it's glory
And all it's horror..
They gave us three eps knowing we’d get restless wanting to see a battle then it comes and takes one of the best. Damn.
I don't understand how Vhagar keeps sneak attacking other dragons considering how big she is. Probably due to battle experience. Anyway ima go cry now
Writers kinda forgot about her size)
Experience dragon
People think Aemond and Vhagar is bad ass, just wait till Daemon and Caraxes gets ahold of them
Yooooo that's what I'm saying. Once caraxes get that ass lol. Meleyes whooped on sunfyre and tbh she put up a fight against vhagar for that first go around.
do you realize that Meleys was way stronger dragon than Caraxes? Daemon killed himself to defeat Vhagar
@@gonzommz1739 The thing is Caraxes has no fear, he's pure fury. When an animal has no self-preservation instinct it's a lot more dangerous than its size suggests. He's also been in battle way more and a lot more recently than other dragons.
Bro how is daemon badass, he had to sacrifice himself to take down a teenager💀💀
@@gonzommz1739 Most people knows this and have read the books. Lmao. The point is they defeated a big duo. And my name is life is a novel for a reason. Any avid reader knows they change books made into movies or shows all the time. Similar to what we just saw. If you read it. You know the changes.
'Twas but a prelude for the upcoming dance.
And another fine cameo by Milly Alcock. I knew she would keep talking as her head hit the ground.
Oh btw the show runners have said Aegon's armor is Valyrian Steel.
It was also mentioned in dialogue in the episode last week or the week before, when he was trying it on.
I was NOT ready for this, but I kinda was, if that makes sense. Rhaenys was a REAL ONE, and fuc°ed Aegon up, so I'll take it!🤣🤣🤣🤣
She went out like a real one.
It was a 40% loss for the greens and 60% loss for the blacks this episode’s battle
@@kausalyaboobalan5929 he isnt dead
Feels like a 90% loss to the blacks. Injuring the King is of little consequence when he is neither a good fighter or ruler and his dragon was too little to fight yet.
Meanwhile the blacks lost their largest dragon, one of their best riders and war council members plus the castle, another council member and access to the mainland.
@jamesmccarthy962 the blacks win in the end. So we good 👍
Sadly I hate to say it.

Hesrtbreaking tk know that Vhagar was her daughter's dragon, and that Meleys and Vhagar were Viserys's and Daemon's parents dragons.
I love how Rhaenyra could tell that something was fishy about what Cole was doing
We all been waiting to see Sunfyre properly, and we see him in all his glory for, what, 10 mins??
Regardless, great episode (but sad!) 😢
They knew that if we had met Sunfyre earlier, we wouldn't want to see any harm happened to that sweet beautiful boy
this is my attempt to "spell it out" but the show did a amazing job depicting the book for rhaenys' death and that final look between her and meleys after not seeing vhagar on the battle field or around in the sky was her feeling her death coming and accepting it as a dragon rider going out in battle rather than from fleeing.
Aemond understood that even with Vhagar's immense strength, a fair fight would lead to his downfall.
the goodbye between Rhaenys and Meleys will always break my heart
