    As someone who has read the book, I honestly like this way more than if he deliberately killed him. Fire and Blood is written by an unreliable narrator. The books itself says this multiple times. I like the idea that Aemond never meant to kill him but instead his pettiness and ego got the better of him and ended up crossing a line he never knew existed

    Rhaenyra saying to Daemon “he never told you” is cool for two reasons: Daemon was technically meant to be heir until Rhaenyra was born (and even after in some ways since women ruling doesn’t usually happen) so it’s a subtle jab but it’s also a confirmation for her that the successor was always meant to be her. That prophecy was only meant to be told to the true heir and by finding out Viserys never told daemon, it confirms he never saw daemon or anyone else as his true successor but Rhaenyra

    I much prefer that Aemond didn't intentionally kill Luke. I think it makes him a much more interesting characters and more importantly, tells us how wise Viserys truly was for calling the power Targareyn's have over the dragons an illusion.
    I really loved watching Rhaenys watch Rhaenyra this episode. She looked so proud of her. For someone that blamed Rhaenyra for so long, to see her realize what was truly best for the realm in backing Rhaenyra was really cool.

    Dragons feel what their bonded person feels as has been demonstrated throughout this season. Caraxes screamed when Daemon got hit by the burning arrow in episode 3, Syrax screamed during the interaction with Otto in just this episode. You can also see that the dragons appear as if remote controlled when their riders need them. I think dragons originally only react to the emotions of their riders. It probably takes a lot of practice to train them to react to words rather whatever the rider is feeling. I believe Vhagar and Arrax reacted respectively like their riders felt. Lucerys felt scared and since dragons are protective Arrax tried to protect Lucerys by going on the offense. Aemond was still furious about the eye and Vhagar followed that emotional lead. Aemond should have anticipated Vhagar´s reaction if he truly knew anything about dragons.

    This is how I saw it. It is clear that none of these people have ever fought another dragon rider. I always saw that dragon bonding was something like a warging, but restricted only to emotions. So Arrax can sense Lukes's fear and adrenaline and sees Vhagar as the source of those feelings, and dragons never back down no matter how small they are. Vhagar probably senses how much Aemond wants to hurt Luke and you can see he is keeping it together at the start. Once Arrax attacks, it's game over since dragons are very confrontational. Notice how Luke told Arrax at the start "Stay calm and pay attention". The dragons did keep their cool, but their riders could not control their own emotions so they seeped into their mounts.
    Basically, the dragons lost control due to the riders losing a grip of their emotions.

She's a massive weapon who has been in multiple wars. Even though Aemond saw the chase as a prank, she was acting as if it was a real hunt because he was inciting it. Aemond: I want his eye. Or to scare him a tad
    Vhagar: He can keep his eye…
    The show is legitimate events! (Book readers [i am one too] don’t realize and complain that by the book Aemond actually wanted to kill him - GRRM himself said the show is 100% how the events happened while Fire and Blood - a history book written from many povs is the story told by people who guessed the history and intentions.) Makes sense since as dutiful as Aemond is he wouldn’t actually want the title Kinslayer it wouldn’t make sense for him. You can see the regret that again a prank and scare has gone too far, this time with big repercussions. Even then though he can’t prove anything as there was no one else in the skies to see.
    “The idea that we control the dragons is an illusion.” AMAZING for the writing in the future honestly with the dragon/rider bonds. We can see that both animals sense threats to each other and just like beasts that can’t be tamed try to win no matter what the riders truly command. “No one can tame a dragon, not even their mother” - Jorah Mormont.
    Rhaenyra was not the smartest for sending a young child to try and convince a house though even politically she should have sent a seasoned warrior in terms of communications. I feel so bad for her though just in what she’s had to live through. The parallel that daemon has lost a child to birth just as Viserys did is needed, no matter what though I hate that he wasn’t there for rhaenyra, he’s really not a good person as much as fans make him to be.

    • @feelssogood252
      @feelssogood252 ปีที่แล้ว +16

My opinion is dragons allow the power to be taken, but only as much as they allow. I actually really like that they didn't make the Aemond completely evil. He was just a young man himself. He looked up to his uncle Daemon and had his ambitions but was as yet unblooded and perhaps even a bit naive as kids that age are. He probably wanted to flex his muscles and scare the crap out of his nephew over their childhood feud as usual. His family just stole the throne; he knows what that means as someone smart enough to have studied the histories, philosophy, and warcraft. He would have known what a HUGE error that was without the sanction of his brother and mother before they knew for sure how things would go with Rhaenyra. He would have KNOWN as soon as it happened that ANY chance for a peaceful resolution was over and that it was all his fault for not being able to reign in his childhood inferiority complex. It makes sense that the dragons also behaved that way as Arax was young and in fear of the storm and his life from the bigger Vhaegar and she wouldn't have allowed that dragon to live after burning her. Both boys and dragons panicked and though he didn't give the order Aemond was absolutely responsible for that death. This seems a lot more like how real life happens where things sadly escalate to a point of unexpected no return due to following emotional impulses rather than reason. Plus, the books are based on secondhand accounts so only those two boys really know how it went down. There is also no way that he would have gone home crying about it to his Mom because it woould have made him look weak and the thing he has craved his whole life is the respect of his peers, family and the realm.

    • @vadalia3860
      @vadalia3860 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree that Aemond is a much more interesting character this way. While he's still responsible for Luc's death because he shouldn't have been doing what he was doing, I do think it's important to note that Westeros has never before seen dragon vs dragon warfare, so he'd have no experience with the idea of dragons ignoring their riders' commands when faced with one of the few things that can genuinely threaten their lives- other dragons.

    THE SAPPHIRE EYE WAS SO ICONIC AS EXPECTED 😭 It makes sense for Aemond to want an eye for an eye, there's no way someone would let that go when the one who took it shows no remorse and laughs at his face.He didn't want to kill him because he's smart enough to know that being a kinslayer is something that receives heavy criticism and that his mother wanted no war.Vhagar is the oldest and the most terrifying dragons alive as described in the books. She wasn't going to let a baby dragon attack herself and his rider and let it go away like that. She probably thought Aemond was in danger because the other dragon burnt her first and retaliated by munching Arrax. She was protecting Aemond considering how she had to burn Laena herself.
    What's shocking is why Luke's dragon doesn't listen to his commands since they've been bonded by birth. But it kinda makes sense in the show since they made Viserys say that the fact that they control dragons is an illusion. It's also pointed out in the book that when Aemond loses his eye vhagar roars as if she could feel his pain,she has been acting up since they arrived in stormlands.

      @adelbechtoula ปีที่แล้ว +10

      That actually makes sense, me personally I felt like luke lost control of arrax the moment they took off because he was very nervous before they took off and he barely listened to luke when he was telling him to turn, arrax felt threatened by vhagar and he attacked her on the other hand vhagar was following aemond's orders at first just teasing luke and arrax because when you look back at it she had two chances to easily kill them but didn't until arrax attacked and there her instinct kicked in and decided to end them and just like you said viserys was right, targaryens are fools if they think they can fully control dragons, one small mistake and they go wild just like in this scene

    I’ve never read any of the GoT books, but I’ll say this. As its own thing, HoTD has a solid season 1. From beginning to end. Sure. There were flaws, but I think the good outweighs the bad imo. And although readers may not like that ending, which is understandable, I think a tiny bit of twist can be good if it has purpose. In this context, it fits. Viserys said in the beginning that the idea Targaryens control dragons is an illusion. So it goes back to ep 1. There were a few things in this finale that paralleled to ep 1, which I thought was a nice touch. I hope season 2 can be just as good, if not, better.

    I thought the finale was good overall, but was one of the weaker episodes of the season. I thought the middle of the episode had some pacing issues. The last 20-25 min were very satisfying🔥🔥.
    Apparently, some of the book readers didn’t like the show’s decision to make Luke’s death look like an accident. I actually kind of liked it because it shows how much control these dragon-riders really have over their dragon.
    I hope they allocate a good chunk of their budget towards dragon fight sequences for the upcoming seasons.

    The problem with being pissed about the "change" to Aemond in the show as compared to book is that those people who are pissed about the so-called change don't seem to understand the books. The books were presented as a record of history as written by Archmaester Gyldayn and he obviously do not have first-hand account of the things he has written. So he has various sources for his book, and those sources often also do not have first-hand account of the events. Precisely for the moment of contention in this episode, nobody could have had first-hand account of what happened between Aemond and Lucerys. So, even though I was also looking forward to cold-blooded ruthless Aemond in this episode, we can't say something like they broke canon by having the dragons become out of control in that moment. It was also foreshadowed by Viserys way back in episode one when he said "The idea that we control the dragons is an illusion. They are a power that men shouldn't have trifled with"
