  • Welcome to another plant care journey on my channel, where I dive deep into the world of rare and unusual tropical houseplants! 🌿💡 In today's video, I share an intimate look at some of my "struggle bus" plants, revealing not only their current states but also the steps I'm taking to nurse them back to health.
🚑 Starting with the shocking discovery of root rot in my beloved Philodendron White Princess, I walk you through my immediate response and care strategies to salvage this beauty. Root rot can be a death sentence if not handled quickly, and today, I'll show you how I deal with this pervasive issue.
🌱 Next, I update you on the condition of two special plants from my recent Ecuagenera order. The Anthurium argyrostachyum has been a particular concern, struggling to thrive, but hope is not lost as it shows a promising new growth point. Contrastingly, the Anthurium flavolineatum, despite its small root system, is surprisingly flourishing, a true testament to the unpredictable nature of plant care.
🐜 We'll also discuss the Philodendron 'Rubrocinctum Platinum', a stunning plant that unfortunately attracts pests like a magnet. Learn the preventative measures and treatments I use to keep these pesky invaders at bay and ensure the health of this striking plant.
🍂 Additionally, I'll touch on the Syngonium 'Ngern Lai Ma' which has been facing challenges with yellowing leaves. During the video, I perform a quick assessment to diagnose potential causes and share my insights on how to address this common issue effectively.
🔥 Unfortunately, today's video is a bit shorter than usual due to an unexpected camera shutdown caused by overheating in the conservatory. However, the content remains rich with tips, advice, and real-life plant care stories that will help any plant enthusiast, whether you're a seasoned collector or a curious beginner.

My struggle bus has a problem with making stops on the route; it seems to just want to go to the last stop which is quite close to the cemetery. Anyway, I keep pulling the bell in hopes it will stop. Thanks for sharing Memo!

😄🚌 Carol, your metaphor is spot on! Keep ringing that bell; your green passengers surely appreciate the effort. Keep us posted on any successful stops!

Rewatching this video again & I want to thank you for sharing your plants from the Struggle Bus with us. This makes you all the more relatable versus other channels that only show their “photogenic” plants. Thanks as always, Memo. 💙

I’m more prone to overwatering and have had quiiiiiteeee a few plants with root rot and I have brought back quite a few. My biggest accomplishment in that direction is a Goeppertia warscewizcii. I had bought a large plant, roughly 60cm leaves, very gorgeous. Her pot was way too small though and I wanted to switch her to semihyro, making all mistakes possible and loosing leaf after leaf. In the end I was left with a single rhizome (as was a friend with whom I shared it by division) and I tried many things and ended up with just keeping it in a glass of water. About half a year later I finally have two tiny leaves, a third one coming!!! Since then my mantra is: if it’s not rotting after I cut off everything that is, it’s not dead! :D

Anthuriums are my struggle bus recently. I waited to try them until i figured out philodendrons, alocasias and Calatheas ( syngonium, epipremnum and hoya collections too) which are all thriving in my conditions and care.

Alocasia Antoro Velvet! Lost all of its big beautiful leaves. It has just put on a new one so I’m chalking it up to acclimating to my space and it’s need for humidity. Hopefully all the new leaves going forward will play nice in their new home.

🌿🎉 That new leaf sounds like a great sign, Vicky! Alocasias do love their humidity. Fingers crossed for more beautiful leaves in your future! 🤞🌱

My alocasia black velvet struggled a lot this winter, but the last 2 leaves it gave me are just perfect.
Right now I'm at my parents for a few days already, I'll drive back home tomorrow and see if everything survived. XD

My Monstera Adonsonaii has been struggling over the winter. I took some props and washed all it leaves in case there were spider mites. We’ll see 😀🇨🇦

Hi! I had 3 different Jade varieties with who knows what pest. I threw everything I had at them, rotated sprays but after 6 months or so I had to admit defeat and binned them all-didnt even take any cuttings as I knew whatever it was had survived everything I tried. Sad but I knew I'd given them my best shot and done what I could.

Oh no, Molly! 😢 It’s tough to say goodbye after all that effort. It sounds like you did everything possible. Here’s to new plant adventures ahead, free of pests!

I have the same thing happening with my philodendron fuzzy petiole as your rubrocinctum with the yellowing crispy edges. Ive been scratching my head as to what was happening, and I think its the same cause, inconsistent watering. I mean, firstly, I moved it out of my grow tent from high humidity to low humidity and it started drying out really fast. And when I water it shows symptoms of edema so I was thinking its overwatering. So i would water less but that just made things worse. Right now its in a very chunky mix and drys out too fast, so i think im going to move it to a more water retentive mix with tree fern fiber and see if that helps.

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

That does sound tricky, Tim! 😟 Switching to a more water-retentive mix sounds like a smart move. Keep us updated on how your philodendron adjusts to its new environment!

That anthurium from ecuagenera is a fighter. I was actually pretty luchy with my first ecuagenera order which I just received, still acclimating, but out of 7, 6 are doing perfectly well, 1 not so much, 1 old leaf yellowing 1 new leaf trying to garden but had to cit half of It bc It was mushy and turning black 😢 hopefully the growth point survives. I would really like to see how you acclimate imports yourself, if you haven't shown us already xD
