I enjoy every single one of your videos, so much to learn from... I wondered if you ever reused your spaghnum moss at all? Either for making moss poles or anything else? Would boil them in water before reusing be OK?

So uh... How about chopping off mistakes? I just moved and I sunburned my baby scindapsis and my pink princess. The scindapsis is what it is, there's nothing to chop. The pink princess is maybe 18" tall. It was a starter plant in January. Its top three leaves are brown and wilted. Of course all its lovely pink is bleached out too, but I guess that's not going to hurt it. So, if the top leaves appear damaged all over, I'm thinking they're no longer benefitting the plant. Would it be best to chop them?

Thanks for the video :) Is there added value in letting the cuttings dry for a few hours first? I always put them straight into water and they will grow roots, but it's different/better to let them dry first then i can try that next time

Chopped my mini monstera vine for the first time and the next leaf from the mother plant doubled in size and looked extremely mature! Now I understand why your Melano did that. Embrace the chop! ✂️😂

You always inspire me to try new things, I first started propping my big Monstera finding out the all the plants in the pot were planted in different directions, so later I could just have one biggin on a moss pole, now I’m air layering another big petiole/leaf/air root to make it two more plants, don’t know what I’ll do with the mother, it’s growing like crazy but a lot of immature leaves cause I can’t stale it at every stem, it’s all over the place, I want more simplicity, it’s very chaotic

Great video! Do you have any tips for propping philodendrons that are self-heading (eg birkin, ring of fire, white wizard)? By contrast to climbers the nodes can be hard to see- they’re often close together and/or covered by cataphylls of leaves already emerged…so it’s hard to even know how to begin!

Thanks :) they are definitely harder to propagate because of that so I would always take larger cuttings of multiple nodes :)

I really like your new video. I love the idea of propagation to make my own plants more lush and to share with family and friends. I also fell in love with your monstera adansonii laniata. So much that I decided to give it a try although was already autumn when I bought them. The vine I received had taken a beating form the lower temperature. I decided to cut them up and hoped one or two would survive. To my surprise all 9 have rooted and at giving me tiny leaves. How many would you advise to pot up together to create a lush looking pole in the end?

First off.. I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.
Second, I cut up my philo glorious and placed them into moss. The plant was originally growing in leca and was extremely root bound (from previous owner). How do I activate those hardened node points? They have aerial roots, but they are small and hardened off. They have been doing fine sitting in the moss, but I wanna know what they best option is to get those cuttings to grow

Have you tried "strangling" the stem weeks before actually chopping? Like using a ziptie, and increasing the strength of it slowly over time.
My theory is that this should give the top half time to "prepare" their root system

I’d wait a bit, if u just got the plant the plant is still going through some shock & needs to get used to new consitions. You don’t want to induce too much shock at once

I've heard it's better to just top up because of the hormones in the water. If you completely switch the water, you lose all that. Haven't fact checked it yet.

That is correct, however, there can also be bad bacteria in the water spreading fungus ... so best to assess the health of the cutting & if all is good, just top it up :)

When water propagating, does the jar or container need to be clear? I rarely see anyone using a normal vase and I wondered if it was something to do with the roots needing light? I’m assuming not and that it’s just a matter of aesthetics. Thanks for the time you take to do these informative video.

Roots prefer darkness so it doesn’t need to be clear but clear containers help you assess your progress better :)

90% of my plants are already growing on moss poles so they are already air layered. With the other 10% that aren’t growing on moss poles i’d just water propagation

Changing out the water frequently of a prop is not a good thing to do. There are rooting hormones from the plant in there so you don’t want to constantly wash them them away!
