    As someone who owns a 14 stem 6yr old monstera that is in full intense light all day in the UK, I can 100% tell you that the more light and climbing opportunities you give this plant (obviously you have to slowly move it into bright light, as in took me 6 months) the more light it gets the faster it grows and the bigger the fenestrations become, mines leaves are almost the size of my torso now and have center holes as well as side splits
    I water every 2 weeks ish, and feed regularly (worm casting and fish bone) I haven't repotted it for atleast 2 years and it is ridiculously happy and grows all the way through winter lol
    Shows how different some peoples care routine is in comparison to recommendation, if your routine works for you and your plant than keep at it 💚

    These are probably the most useful and informative plant videos I've seen. I've been looking for some more professional, detailed advice, rather than the typical hobbyist "influencer" videos, and you guys did a great job!
    I'd love to see a video on with advice on keeping a Philodendron 'Congo Rojo'. I have a rescue plant I picked up that had been discarded and it's grown quite long and leggy, with widely-spaced leaves. I'd like to see something on Rhapis excelsa as well. Skål!!

    I started expanding my houseplant hobby about 3 years ago. My monstera has done wonderfully. Before I ever saw your videos, I just did a lot of on-line search. And it just happened that the only room my monstera could be in, was in front of a huge north-facing window. It grew quickly. I've got about 25 gorgeous fenestrated leave on it. Even this winter, it continues to push out new beautiful leaves. Almost all of the leaves are bigger than my face. I've only used a water-soluble fertilizer in spring. But during this winter, the only nutrition I feed it, is worm castings. I think my plant loves it. 💖

    Yesterday I saw a large, beautiful Monstera - but it was 40€ and I just wasn't willing on paying so much for a plant right now, also I currently don't have enough room for it (yet!) - but then I saw a baby Monstera seedling with no fenestrations yet - that was a sign! I bought it and I'm so happy I did because it's cute and I love watching them grow :D

    I began to propagate from a nod and cut off the leaves like you did but later in another one of your video you left the leaves on before to put the nod in the water. I hope that cutting off the leaves will not hinder the growth of the new roots. I'm afraid it will take much longer to get roots now. What do you think? Also how many weeks before to see roots?

  • @natasha5929
    @natasha5929 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I am a fan of cutting to propogate (and give them away as gifts) to diminish the wild (although beautiful) bushy appearance. They propogate beautifully with the leave still in tact, as the aerial roots propogating in water create wonderful results.

    How do I get the leaves to grow bigger? I have a large plant with leaves comparable in size to the plants in the video, but I've seen monstera leaves that are 2 or 3 times that size with even more fenestrations and holes. Is it a time thing or do I need to let it get a little root bound, or something else?

      You may have a Monstera borsigiana instead of a M. Deliciosa. When they are young they look very similar, but a borsigiana never gets the gigantic leaves that a deliciosa gets when older. You will easily find sites that compare these two varieties of Monstera.

    I just had to rescue one a few hours ago. She suffered 30-40% sun burn. The store was gonna throw her away because of it 💔. It wasnt that poor little plants fault. They let me have her. Now shes in rehab! 💛🌱💯👍

      @@Angie-ux4pp time...lots of time. Kept a humidifier on her set at 75 and kept the direct sunlight off her but in the brightest room. She is doing fantastic now and i have her on a 8' moss pole!

    So helpful! Thank you. Recently brought home a small Monstera. Never planned on having one but the plant I had gone to buy was too pricy. And the Monstera was the perfect size and shape I wanted to place on my TV cabinet. I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying my newest addition. And I find myself opening up to it getting bigger. To a point. Good to know I can keep the delicious monster under control. Thanks again for sharing your deep knowledge.🙏

    This was the most informative video I’ve seen on this plant. I just got one earlier this month. Only 5 leaves but already a new one is beginning to spiral out. I just love this plant. I live in the US in Florida so humidity and cold is never a problem. Thank you for all the useful information.

    Good info on choosing the best specimen for purchase. But you know, I tend to choose the plants that need rescuing! It's like puppies or kittens.... I usually get the runt. LOL. Thank you so much for all the information!

    My house gets dry in the winter so I put on the humidifier and that solves that problem. Misting does not really work for any plants that need the extra humidity.

    • @sandrastreifel6452
      @sandrastreifel6452 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      serena mee: Of course, a humidifier is ideal, but pebble trays filled with water, especially if you can fit them atop your radiators, work well, much better than misting. Misting is good for keeping leaves clean, but I agree with you, it won’t do much to increase humidity!!!

    Thank you for the extremely informative and educational videos. I try to follow your advice to a T and all my plants are doing great at the moment, even the Calatheas! Would you be able to do a video on the Rhaphidophora tetrasperma? Many thanks!

    It's funny how every video people talk about how easy a monstera is to grow but then they talk about how you can't have it with too much light but then you can't have it too dark and then you got to water but you can't water it too much and then it needs humidity and that it needs this but it doesn't need too much of that and needs that but you can have too much of this ... Sure does seem like and sound like a very finicky plant!!!

      Ron Riggs: This plant will survive in almost any conditions, but for a thriving plant, a huge vine with spectacular leaves and maybe flowers, it needs the best conditions!

    I have three local grocery stores that I have bought most of my indoor plants from. Most of the time, the tag just says 'tropical'. Jump online to see if I can figure out what I just bought. Last night, I found a 'tropical' that looked interesting and that I didn't have yet. Was on my way home when I thought 'Monstera'. Uh oh. I've seen videos with huuuuge Monstera's. So I did scare myself. What did I just do? Read some stuff online. Watched a few videos. But was never exactly sure what I just bought until I saw this video. Mine looks exactly like the smallest one that was talked about. Before the 'adams rib aka swiss cheese' leaf shows up. Okay. Not quite as scared as I was last night anymore. Awesome video. Really helped explain things clearly.
