    Fabulous update Maiju ❤
    Your flower beds are absolutely gorgeous. Love your air dryer. So nice to dry and make your own fruit, flower and herb teas.
    Tomatoes look nice and healthy as do all your plants in the polytunnel and garden 👍😁
    Have a great week 🌻🌹🌻❤️

      Thank you, Linda 🤗💚🌿There are so many plants flowering at the moment, it is a beautiful sight 🥰
      The dehydrator was an investment, but has taken the worry out of mind with excess produce. One year we had a crazy amount of shalotts and chillies and peppers, even tomatoes....they all got dried up and powdered down. A very handy way of adding them to dishes for extra flavour 💚🌿

    I've a six foot wall around my garden and I've seen many many times slugs and sails ontop of the wall half way up and in planters I have ontop of one part of the wall. I wouldn't underestimate them .😊

      😂😂 I will believe you 😂I was counting on the table legs being the only part touching the ground and the chances for the slugs to find them....😂 a bit like playing the lottery

    I always look forward to your videos. It is delightful to get the new video this morning.
    There is lots of variety in the shots & great sound which is very calming. This video is full of beautiful images & interesting ideas. I see garden as a place to do lots of small experiments & I find that part of it interesting as you see what works or does not in our very individual climate conditions (it is windy & exposed on a hill). You seem to be experimenting all the time too, trying to make happy plants so you have so much knowledge & experience to share, its great!
    I love the chickens. We used to have some chickens as well. I miss them.
    On the subject of garden waste, I have actually found it quite expensive to get rid of. For the past few years I have introduced a composting system. It works perfectly. I have been very busy so I do not have it organised yet this year but I have the materials ready. I have prepared the area. I am planning a redesign of the area for this year. Maybe I will try a large 3 bay system. We’ll see how it goes. I will hopefully get it sorted out this week.
    The weather is great at the moment. Not much rain. (It was very windy yesterday though which made things difficult!)
    My country garden area is ok but is amazing how many plants it needs. I still have not planted the plants in the ground though! I am trying to be selective about the plants I choose as I prefer to have friendly ones. Thank you

      @spudsandroses  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      This so kind of you, thank you 😊💚🌿 I really appreciate your comments 💚🐝
      I do always experiment, but probably because of I'm a bit of a rebellion at heart 😂
      I do find that going through mistakes and failures teaches me more than everything going smoothly from the beginning....and also finding out that growing some plants was not all that interesting or we didn't like to eat it etc..
      My biggest joy this year is coming from the cottage garden side, as for ages I felt guilty to be even growing ornamentals, when everyone else seemed to only grow veggies...growing flowers felt like a luxury and its not a cut flower garden either. That's probably the reason, why wouldn't even show the rose garden as often in the videos😊💚🌿 Composting is fantastic. To have a proper destination for all of the waste and weeds from the garden🌿
      I'm yet to give it another turn though, to keep the process going...it is hard work 😀
      Have a great week ahead! 😊💚🌿

      @@spudsandroses I used to think in a similar way, that fruit was the only thing I needed to grow in the garden but I have changed my mind in the last two years. Flowers have a magical quality of putting a smile on someones face! It is an amazing quality to have. I don’t think you need to feel guilty about growing ornamentals. It is lovely you are so interested in growing the cottage garden area. I find your rose garden to be very interesting too.
      Personally I do not think you need to worry to much about what people are interested in here on youtube. You are doing an amazing job with youtube. There are so many people doing gardening on youtube. I am recommended different channels all the time. For me most channels are not great. I don’t even like gardeners world much. You are different though. People will come to your channel because of the person you are. It is not all about the veggies!!
      For me I don’t you need to worry about turning the compost too much. It will be ok without it. Last year I have a big compost heap, with the volume of material it is very difficult to turn. It turned out great. For the last two years just had one very large compost pile out in the open. No bays. It worked great. Very good quality compost. I had a huge amount but I find I am using it a lot for the garden this year. Perhaps I might do an experiment this year, I am thing of using some garden fabric to separate the bays.
      Keep up the good work!
      Thank you.

      Hi Ali 🤗 💚🌿 Thank you for your kind comment 🥰
      We have so many Elders around the hedgerows and have also cut them down to the ground to contain them and to keep the flowers on the lower levels, too. I suppose once they have settled, they're very tough plants, but I have the purple elder planted now and have to keep up with the watering for that 💚🌿

    Really enjoyed this update and love your thought process on self sufficiency. Whole heartedly agree on the amount of waste produced commercially and find it frightening to see the amount produced per household each week, compared to just a few decades ago.😬.
    Thank you Maiju for inspiring me to fall in love again with Salvia and I have reintroduced some old favourites, plus an impulse buy 🤭 of a variety called Cuelio Cream Pink and a Nepeta Neptune… Let the bee frenzy begin!

      I'm freezing mine into ice cube trays. There are a lot of versions online, do check them out...I usually go by the amount of elderflowers I have managed to harvest and then reduce the water and sugar ratio as per recipe...
      I'm very much partial to a mint and elderflower Mojito mocktail as a treat 😊

      Thank you very much 😊💚🌿
      No I haven't tried preserving eggs, probably because we are still getting a few during the winter days. The hens are not taking a full break, even though I do wish they would, as then at least they would keep laying over a longer period, rather than a lot for the first 2 years. It is down to the breed they are...💚🌿

    Hi Maiju, nice way to support your tomatoes, will remember for next year about the freezing elder flower cordial.
    We are looking to get a dehydrator in the coming months any tips or features to look out for?

    • @spudsandroses
      @spudsandroses  8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hi, Ady 😊💚🌿The cordial is very handy as it doubles as an ice cube 😉, but it will be sticky because of the sugar content and the sugar will not allow to freeze fully, so they will be a bit messy-sticky ice cubes, but delightful nevertheless 😀 With the dehydrator go for a version that you can store easily in your cupboards 😂 as it is not in the use most of the time 😊💚🌿

    I always enjoy your videos. I have a question that is a bit off this topic. 2 out of my 3 Ornamental Rowan's/Mountain Ash trees have recently failed after 2 years. I am aware of Fire Blight but do you think I should just replant again with 2 Rowans/Mountain Ash in the Autumn and see how it goes or would you recommend any other similar trees that might do better?

    • @spudsandroses
      @spudsandroses  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you very much for your kind comment 😊💚🌿
      Rowans are very tough trees...what happened to them? did the leaves go brown/black and shrivel up or did the whole tree die down? What size was the tree when planted?
      We have nearly 15 ornamental rowans in the garden (non-native varieties) and only 2 ended up with a stunted growth (water vein underground), but still alive.

    • @Denis_irish
      @Denis_irish 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@spudsandroses The leaves have gone brown and dropped off. All 3 were about 6 foot when we bought them. I will see how the other one goes and then decide. There's plenty trees to choose from. I was thinking of trying a flowering Cornus Kousa. Anyway thank you for replying. All the best.
