New vegetable growing space while the harvests are being decimated by a new pest! Organic Gardening

  • What a difference a couple of days beautiful weather does to the garden. I have finally planted up the corn, pumpkins and squashes. Also found a new home for the Yakon plants and planted the celery ''Utah''. The biggest change was on the field side though, preparing new growing space there and adding new raised beds.
Unfortunately all of my purple cauliflower and Brokali plants have been decimated by a new pest in the garden...

    Morning Maiju,
Thank goodness it is starting to warm up...I was beginning to think we wouldn't be getting any sumner this year!
It is a shame about the cabbage root fly, but at least you know they are there and can tackle the issue going forward. I love the new beds, your squash will absolutely thrive in that spot.
    Enjoy your Sunday.
    Take care, Annie 🐞 🐝 🌱

Thank you, Annie 😊💚🌿 The weather has just been heavenly over the few days, so nice!
Lets hope the weather stays warm long enough for the pumpkins to grow and the winds are not too severe, as the field side is still quite open to the elements because the trees are still small and won't provide any protection.
      Have a great week! 😊💚🌿

    Hello Maiju.
What a lovely video. Always enjoy watching and following along with you. Sorry about the cabbage root fly. A lesson for all of us, so thank you for sharing that.
The new pallet collars are lovely and that extra growing area sits so lovely amongst the rest of your growing space.
The hens make me howl. They’re so nosy and hopeful of pests, they’re leaky under your feet and the dangerous edge of the spade 😂
Spuds… oh buddy. You are such a funny goofball
Have a great week. Enjoy the warmer weather ❤

Such a lovely comment 🥰 The hens are so fast and fearless of me moving around or digging etc, at the hope of getting some worms. I was delighted they were around me this time as the leatherjackets out of the grass edging were huge!
The Cabbage root fly was a disappointment, indeed. Knowing they are going to be an issue, will make me think more thoroughly about my growing for next year. This year I'll just continue like nothing ever happened 😂😂
I hope you get to enjoy some of this summer weather, too 😊💚🌿
Have a great week and best wishes, Maiju 😊💚🌿

Ah you talk so calmly about the cabbage root fly - I would be moaning and groaning!! 😂 Glad it's only those two areas though and you have other unaffected. The new beds look great - joint efforts with Spuds and the chucks! Watching you edge the grass 😂😂 - this is where I go wrong - no attn to detail!! Lovely video and great progress on the garden. Can't wait until the entire field is market garden raised beds 🥰😜🤪

Market Garden 😂😂 I'll be more like all of the Instagram reels - a 500 Dollar Strawberry, or a 200 dollar onion! For the money and effort that has gone into it just to feed the wildlife😜...
I know we have the space, but I ain't got the patience honey to edge all of the beds! 🤭🤭
I do like a sharp edge on a border or on a veggie bed though 😊
There are so many pests, no wonder there are so many chemicals developed to get rid of them ☠️
I'll keep my little organic corner and hope they'll leave something for us to eat, too 😂💚🌿

Lovely update Maiju 🌱. Cabbage rootfly is bit of a nightmare. I have it here and even using brassica collars I still loose a couple now and again. In the early days not using collars I lost everything, was like why are all my cabbages wilting 😂😂.
Love the pallet collars, looks very neat and tidy 😍. The chickens helping out are pretty cute too!

@@spudsandroses Maiju I think I'm going to like Oca. I tried a leaf and liked the nice lemony flavour and a piece of oca bulb fell off so I washed and ate it, it was lovely so definitely a thumbs up.👍
Blinking slugs, they're eating more than us. They ate all the lettuce bar one and even then tonight I found 3 slugs on there! The oregano pellets worked fab for the brassicas and ok for the beans but devoured all my marigolds and lettuce 😳 I've taken the net off them now so hopefully our little frog will find any slugs that's left🤞
