Dean, I have done this before, I have seen others methods, this is the only video someone should watch. As a self employed father of 8 who burns firewood, you have saved me time, frustration and annoyances. The only thing I really did different was just use a clamp. The size of the pads and depth of the jaw opening will determine what clamps will work. I had a small Irwin QUICK-Grip Handi-Clamp #59100CD that allows one handed use, where I can hold tension with my other hand. I would have used your clamp method, but it was 2am and I didn't want to use anymore time making something. The clamp must be one hand operation. Sir, you have been a blessing and I can't thank you enough for making this video!!!!!!! This worked on a 272xp. I set it to have some tension when fully retracted so the handle wouldn't flop around like it did the last time I fixed it. Last time I had to rewind the spring, that was not fun! thanks a again. Gabe
Wow. Thanks so much Gabe for the kind comments. I am so glad this method worked for you. Much success. Please consider subscribing for more chainsaw videos. Dean
This mower has been kicking for about 10 years now. Always had a short cord on it after the original snapped and other minor issues with the recoil starter th-cam.com/users/postUgkx-NCBSqqKJlyQ5_JGS_STpsFYihe7bmM3 until I finally had to open it up in an attempt to feed in a new line. I noticed it was all rusty and the coil was going but upon dismantling it was too much of a pain to get it all back in there correctly and opted to just get a new one. not sure why i waited so long to do so but it was a cheap, easy fix and it would have saved me hours of fiddling with the old rusty coil or trying to pull start and having cheap make-shift lines break in my hand during a pull. If yours is scuffed just replace it!
Unfortunately not. I am no professional, but I know that low compression can be caused by bad piston rings allowing pressure to pass by inside the cylinder head 'or' possibly a valve that's stuck open. Sorry.
What if I've got the white wheel off and spring tension popped off? Originally, I was taking things apart to replace the cord that broke. I hadn't seen your video before I took the white wheel off. Do you have a video on how to replace the spring tension strip? (Oh Lord)
After l changed the snapped spring, l follow your instruction everything was ok till l tried starting it. There was only one kick over which wasnt enough to start it. It needs 4 kick overs to start. Where did l go wrong? l fooled around with for a while but, l coudnt work it out. Thank you for sharing such a helpful video :)
Worked a treat on our chainsaw, thanks for the video!
Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪🇺🇸❤
I'm so glad it helped Mr. Daniel. Thanks for viewing. Would love to come visit someday.
@@PilotViewProductions If you're ever in the west (Mayo/Galway) I'll buy you a beer! Thanks again 😁

Great video, thank you. FYI, for future reference, a figure 8 knot makes a bigger "stop"
Thanks for viewing JG. Dean
Excellent video! Thank you 💖
Thanks for viewing Daniel

I found it easier to thread my new cord in from the top of the reel rather than up from the bottom.
Will this solve low compression issue just replacing the cord?

@@PilotViewProductions Thanks. That's the first thing I'll be looking for before I do this.

Unfortunately I don’t have such a video Laura but I have seen those type videos out there. Please keep searching. Dean
I just got my 450 last month. Put about 10 tanks of fuel through it and now I am here with this issue. Anything I am have been doing wrong?
Not at all Razor. It should have lasted longer.
@@PilotViewProductions basically it stopped recoiling on its own. I haven’t taken it apart yet. Probably this weekend I’ll dig into it

Thanks for watching. I don't think the pull cord is the reason it won't start. May have to troubleshoot further.
Thanks for the great info and yes my cord went in first try from the center hole n
Great news! Glad to hear it Mr. Bell and thanks for the comment.
There is a much easier way. And you thread down through the hole first. Then use the notch in the coil and wind then up through the cover
Do you have a video that demonstrates? I’d be glad to link to it if you do.
Grazie 😘
I fixed my 455e starter in about 10 min......set up is a little different & didn’t have to have any tension built up
Wish mine had been that easy
