Dude I'm in hawaii and my camera had a splash of salt water under it. It faded to black and would not turn on. So I watched this video and cotton swabbed it, and now it works. I really am not sure what I did but your video helped me open her up! Thank you!
Omg literally same thing happened to me ( I think ) I don't see how salt water could have gone in. I unfortunately couldn't try this because I'm still in the island and don't have the tools.
My A7III has been dead for a year after I accidentally left it in the rain overnight on my roof. I just watched this video on how to repair it myself, then I grabbed my camera, turned it on and by some magic it's working perfectly again without doing anything 😂 So thanks for the repair energy. 👍
I don't feel my mother board broke but similar thing My a7siii stopped working, files missing such as SSID info which was on the A7iii, the folder there but not the actual ssid doc, couldn't connect to camera, qr code was empty. Then it started saying camera error, had to turn of and on a few times to get into record mode. did that for a year, now i just did a firmware update and now it does the error but you can't on and off it as it's too slow, and that's when it manages to go into error again.
this is a great video and explanation honestly! my menu button and screen + EVF stopped working and so i thought that replacing the entire back end of the camera would fix it but unfortunately it didnt. Might be either the motherboard so im just going to have to send it to Sony :(
I have a question, I want to get to the Multi Controller Navigation Joystick Button. My original came out during an event party. It still functions well but I want to install it back. I've already ordered the part from ebay. How do I get to it?
I just had to get a shipping label to send mine in for a circuit board replaced. At that point if they cover that repair I will ask for extended warranty choices. If you touch your camera and start repairing it yourself they will not even fix it under warranty. Mine was three months past warranty and they are agreeing to take it in for me. That took a lot of convincing and I had to go to management to do it. Four foot surgeries and only $2,000 photos means they should fix it!
Great video and you're very brave. I took the easy way out and sent it to a Sony repair centre. But not sure if the AW performs like it did and I have notice a slight light leak either side of the View finder half way down. You can see it when your in a dark environment . Not sure if it was there before the repair. Do you think it could be something the haven't seated properly? Cheers, Andy.
the button that you push down to open the sd card slot stopped working when I dropped my camera, do you know any way to open it without taking apart the entire camera?
Hi, i am not able to turn off my a7r3, i have to remove the battery turn off the camera, all others functions are working absolutely fine can you Please help me with a solution
Awesome video. This is just what I needed to watch in order to attempt the same fix on my a7iii. I do have a followup though... After replacing the motherboard (purchased from encompass), the AWB is more yellow/green and the autofocus seems to hunt longer than usual. This behavior did not occur prior to the camera not being able to turn on. Did you experience anything similar? My fear is if there is some soft of initialization software that needs to happen that is not consumer available. anywho, awesome video!
I'm not sure. I dont think so. My guess is you would have to get it somewhere else if you wanted to be safe. I'm sure there are ways you could still return it through ecompass but my guess is you would need to pay shipping and need to give a round about reason for the return
Hello, did you changed the language of your Sony? Today I changed my motherboard of my Sony a7iii but it has the Asian languages. What can I do? Please, I need your help. Thank you!
this same happened to my camera I have a 1 year warranty but i dont know if sony will cover it and i dont know their "labor" charge anybody can help with this or know anything?
After replacing the motherboard, did you happen to experience any issue with the AWB or the AF-C when in video mode? Trying to determine if a calibration process is required post the physical motherboard replacement. Awesome video!
Update: After replacing the motherboard, my camera was able to boot up but showcased a number of new odd behaviors. The AF-C and AWB was way off. I ended up have to send my unit to Precision Camera to get it calibrated to factory settings for $389. I don't know if they would have charged me more if they had to replace the motherboard themselves. I'm going to assume so just to make myself feel better for attempting this DIY fix.
I believe I got the second motherboard from ecompass. I would go back and watch the video to make sure that was the case. There are several ways to tell if the motherboard is bad. After going though all the "basic" troubleshooting and resetting the camera its a high chance the motherboard is toast if the camera still wont turn on, does not respond to the battery being inserted and fails to respond in any other way. If there is something else wrong with the camera is should still show signs of life and respond. For the person that isnt sure if the motherboard is the problem but expects it is I would suggest buying it from a site in which you can return it if the new motherboard doesn't fix the problem.
man this is nuts I got as nervous as you by the end lmao when that camera turned on I was like "YES"

What did you have to cotton swab? Did you have to open the camera up?

From which website I have to order this mother board please help me
If you ever feel like replacing the motherboard is difficult… wait until you have to replace the MCB(top circuitry board)
Did you have to send the camera to sony for calibration?
Hey there! how about serial number of camera? did you get a new one with new motherboard? how much did you pay for the motherboard?
Hi i was wondering what happened to the language issue? Did you resolve it?

Have you tried to see if the firmware needed to be updated? Wondering before I try this
You need to send to sony. They will install sony software into it
Does Encompass allow returns if the MB isnt the problem?
