Thanks for the help just used your guide to replace my screen and it's working beautifully. Word of caution to anyone doing this: 1. The back plate can bend very easily, make sure to "unbend" it when putting everything back together. 2. The ribbon cables are very delicate and require a very good connection with the motherboard to not fall out of place from movement. (learned this the hard way when the touch screen randomly stopped working) 3. Ensure you use some adhesive between the screen frame and new screen to keep everything nice and sturdy.
Just fixed my screen! In total it cost me $40 USD for the glue and the screen. 30 min of work and it is perfect again! Can't thank you enough for the well made video.
Hey Caleb, that's great news! I'm happy it panned out well and you were able to save a lot of money and time! Thank you for your comment and the video is my pleasure 🙏
thank you for such clear and concise directions! I just changed my cracked screen. Took 15 mins and saved me $$ and time sending off my camera to Sony, Keep up the great content!
Thanks for the detailed instructions! I’m wondering if, when the screen is shattered like in the video, the camera still powers on (e.g., viewfinder and functions still work)? My camera tipped over on a tripod, and now the screen shows no signs of life. I’m worried it might be more than just the screen-any advice?
My pleasure! The cracked screen in the video did function when the body was powered on. Does your camera's electronic view finder (EVF) function? Sorry for my delay! I'm curious about any advances you've made on your camera.
I bent the backing plate in order to show the steps better. I had to be very careful while bending it apart and bending it back. I would not suggest bending it like I had it!
Very helpful video. I just accidentally damaged my sony a7s3 screen. Is the replacement process identical to a7 iii and do you have an idea where to buy the replacement screen for sony a7s3? Thanks
Thank you! There is a website called "Sony Encompass" which sells genuine Sony replacement parts. I would recommend checking there for your A7SIII screen. I am not sure of the process for the "S" model, though I imagine it would be quite similar.
Have you ever tried to fit a replacement lcd for a a7 SIII into the A7 III (it is a little bit higher resolution, 1.229k dots vs 922k dots)? The ribbon cable looks similar to me and both are 3 inch. Would be a nice upgrade
Hello Benjamin, if the screens are interchangeable, this would be an awesome upgrade! I do not believe they are, but I have no attempt to confirm my suspicions. Let me know if you decide to try it!
@@H3Humper Thank you for your answer! If I try it I will let you know. But it‘s a tough decision since my screen isn‘t broken (I would do it just for the upgrade) and the A7 SIII screens I can find are a bit pricey (about 150€, which should also be about 150$). I once replaced the panel of my laptop from 720p to 1080p, which worked fine. So I‘m hoping to find some information about that before I buy a replacement screen
Thank you for the video, I need to replace my screen. The replacement screen in the Amazon link is no longer available. Have you used any other replacement screens that you might recommend? There are a few on eBay, but I'm unsure of the quality. thanks
My pleasure 🙏 The sellers seem to sell out of screens quite quickly. Purchasing through eBay is okay, though they send the wrong screen from time to time. For example, they sent me the incorrect screen the first time. I told the seller and they sent me the correct one free of charge, though swapping the screen a second time was inconvenient. Sony Encompass is an excellent, high-quality source for parts and part numbers. encompass.com/brands/SON/Sony
I do not know if it will work on the A9 or not. If you are able to find an A9 screen replacement, I imagine it is a similar process, though. Update us if you figure out your A9!
I did not notice a difference in quality between screens. I am doubtful the cheap screens with the Sony logo are genuine, but they do seem to function properly in my experience. To answer you other question, the Sony Encompass parts website has genuine parts and is a great resource for finding parts.
Great tutorial ! But for me unfortunately screen still doesn’t work as I was shooting in rain so I believe that motherboard for LCD screen is gone… I have checked both original screen and replacement. Non of them light up… I have to use viewfinder or use external monitor for photos 🤷🏼♂️
@@H3Humper I have gave my camera for repair which cost around £160 which isn’t that bad but the inly thing is I had to cancel my photoshoot last weekend 🤷🏼♂️
Thank you so much 🤓 I imagine the process would be very similar but not exactly the same for the A7Sii. I believe the part number for yours is Sony part#: 1-811-695-43
Dang! I am wondering if the seller of your screen sent the incorrect model screen replacement (which happened to me on my first order). Are you able to compare the old and new screens side by side? Have you figured anything else out since commenting? I noticed it's been a handful of days since you posted your comment.
Hello Igor, I am unfamiliar with a recalibration process. On the standard A7iii, I did not need to calibrate anything for it to function properly. They are two different screens, so there very well could be a calibration requirement for the 'R' version, but I truly have no idea if it does or not.
My screen was replaced at precision camera ripoff and after I they sent it back I did not use it for few months, and once I was planning to use it the new screen stated action weird changing colors, flickering and then going to complete black and next day it will start working normally for few minutes and it will start doing the same. First screen was damaged by salt water, so not sure if they replaced ribon cable or just the screen but now I can not even ask them to fix it again because they only give 3 month’s warranty and I did not even use camera I that period to notice that they did not fixed it correctly. Do you have idea what is causing this weird behavior.
What a tough situation, and being without a camera is no fun. I am wondering if maybe the connection is not clean or possibly the new screen is faulty. Very difficult to say for sure. Let me know what you find out!
I am not sure :/ I did a quick search and couldn't find any! Do you happen to have any of them? If so, one option would be measuring the "pitch" of the screw and ordering them from a machine screw supplier.
Just in case this helps anyone else, my screen was actually broken from water damage (salt water to be exact) and a replacement screen solved the issue for me.
@@JP-qq2wy it should, sounds like it’ll be water damage like mine was. I was worried that if the screen got wet it would mess up the insides of the camera but it’s sealed pretty good and it only affects the screen, so this method should get you back to 100%
