Your willingness to go out in the cold and shout up your driveway about your battery status to a camera for the purpose of informing strangers on the internet.. well.. it's commendable. Great work. Thanks so much.
It would be awesome to see how the new 2-stage snowblower performs, but that's an expensive tool. Your videos are very informative. I'm a self-employed landscaper in southern NH trying to determine if an electric snowblower would be a reasonable tool to make some supplementary income with in the winter. I'm really not interested in investing in or working with gas tools.
If you regularly get more than 8 inches, then I'd go for the 2 stage. For commercial jobs I'd recommend at least 5AH batteries, plus the dual charging station for quick recharges between jobs. Ideally you'd also have a powerful power inverter in the truck so you can recharge while on the road. All together pretty expensive, but all but the blower itself would be useful throughout the landscaping year since the batteries are interoperable with all EGO tools.
Great videos, I might have to buy one. need a blower light enough to throw in the bed behind the salter. looks to have some balls too for just the 5AH. your unit just came with a regular speed, single charger right?
I just bought this at a yard sale with 2 5Ah batteries for $250! I already have an Ego mower, string trimmer, leaf blower, hedge trimmer, edger and cultivator. I won't get a chance to use the snow thrower for about 5 months. But after seeing this driveway being plowed, it's going to be bored with mine. Question about it though. The right hand green hand screw, does this press into the plastic causing the plastic to flex or is this something that could be broken on this second hand thrower?
I don’t know if I’m sold on this blower. I mean the red light comes on with only 8” of snow. What if it was 12” and a heavy wet snow? I’m not sure that machine would handle it. Hopefully we will see. It’s only December.... there’s a lot of winter left yet. Great video thou! Keep us posted.
@Craig Schultz Thanks for sharing your experience. As mentioned in the video, the more aggressively I remove snow the sooner the red light comes on, so agree with you its likely a purposeful design choice that balances peak power with battery protection and duty cycle. Fortunately you don't have to wait more than a few seconds before you can get going again.
Looks like you're doing fine without the self-propelled version. Looking to pickup the single stage with steel auger. Would you consider self propelling for a long driveway like that, or stick with the single stage?
It all depends on your preferences and budget. The little single-stage can certainly handle 8-10 inches deep and 100 yards on two charges of dual 5AH batteries as I demonstrated. The two-stage will certainly be much easier physically and get the job done quicker. But it is about twice as expensive. For me, I prefer to save the bucks (so I can buy other EGO tools!), and don't mind the extra exercise and time outdoors. But if the 2-stage had been available last year when I bought the single-stage, I would certainly have been tempted!

Here's an example of it in 12 inch snow from last year: th-cam.com/video/oXvBquPHRIQ/w-d-xo.html

Have you considered the steel auger version? Luckily you can convert it easily if you want to.
