With a raised chute, it blows the snow further, but causes the blowing snow to blow back at you. So....lower the chute to blow the snow just far enough. Usually, you can change the height of the chute as you're blowing (you don't have to hold down the control for the augers. Once you're moving, you can leave go of the auger lever and it'll continue to work until you stop moving.
Good advice! Also use the wind direction to your advantage. Depending on the situation you can blow the snow high but WITH the wind. Even if you have to blow the snow again where it didn’t go far enough.
I think its a 2 stage-(not 2 stroke) meaning stage 1 is the augers moving the snow into the chute and the 2nd stage is the second impellor that throws the snow. In contrast to a single stage that uses one spinning part to pull in and throw the snow.
Ego and lake effect amounts of snow might prove too much for those batteries. Also, looks like you have way too much to clean for battery powered equipment.
@@davidmorrison7424 Lake effect snow is generally the light fluffy stuff. System snow is the heavier stuff. We get both here in Mich depending where we live. Either way, I'm sticking to my Kubota and a 60" mounted on the 3 point.
I'm from Minnesota and bought the same snowblower 2 years ago. We had ~100 inches of snow that winter, so I got alot of use out of it, and really learned battery management. Like someone else said, store them inside to extend life. I'd also recommend getting a second set. We have just a 40 feet, 3 wide driveway and in the heavy, wet snow, even with good management, would use two sets of batteries (4 batteries).
I want an extra set but wow are they expensive. im looking at a ego mower and if the batteries are interchangeable then I could have 2 sets that way, fingers crossed. I only store and charge my batteries inside to avoid issues and it has worked well like you said
@@marieintheUP All Ego batteries are interchangeable with all their tools. Having had Ego tools for 7 years, I can you tell their batteries last a long time. I have four 7.5 Amp hour batteries, two 6.0 Amp hour and four 2.5 Amp hour. Only one has gone bad in 7 1/2 years. Good luck!
I admire your independance, perseverance and tenacity all of which you need when living in the country. Nice to see a video where the struggles and difficulties are included, not a "slick promo" type video. Looking forward to finding other videos of yours.
I applauded when you got the beast down the ramps safely on the ground. I'm into my 4th winter now with this very same snow blower. I really like the machine. I use it on my 250' gravel driveway on a steep hill. I can do the whole driveway with one charge of the 7.5 batteries if it's a foot of light stuff. About 8" if it's heavy, wet snow. Any more than those amounts and a second set of batteries is needed, or wait about 90 minutes to charge the pair. The first year, I hit a big, buried rock that broke the internal gears. The nearest EGO warranty repair shop is 100 miles away. I hope you have one closer. It's not as quiet since they "fixed" it, but it was a free repair. Note#1: let the batteries rest for 30 minutes after charging and 30 minutes before charging to protect the battery life. Note #2: extra sheer pins are on top of the machine. Note #3: store the batteries inside. They like a warm house just as the kitties do. I hope this helps you and others. Ken in Maine, 73 years old. (I drove through the UP once, and I loved it there. Congratulations on picking such a nice area.)
@@avlisk I have a gravel driveway too so I will try to be more cautious with the rocks I don’t want to brake anything on it. Thanks for sharing this information, it’s helpful to know yours is still going strong!!
@@marieintheUP The little pebbles will ding up the metal and snap the shear pins if they bind up the auger. That's what the pins are meant to do. I hit a baseball-sized stone that a snowplow had buried at the foot of my driveway and it was enough of a jolt to break the internal gears. But the EGO kept running for another 2 snowstorms! It just clattered and shook until I got it repaired.
Hello Marie...within the first few mintues of this video I was rooting for you and, proud of you for your ingeniuty and determination! (short hint: in the case of you getting your snowblower out of the back of your SUV, instead of trying to lift or pull out the entire unit, try grabbing the tread blocks of each tire of the snowblower and pulling on them to force the tires to rotate and the machine will move without you having to lift and pull on it at the same time :) I actually came across this video recommended by YT because I am anxiously anticipating snow where I live so that I can use my EGO snowblower again (I live in the PNW and our winter thus far has been very mild). I got an identical EGO snowblower 3yrs ago. 2yrs ago I bought a second set bigger batteries (a 10ah set to compliment the included 7.5ah set) and the battery upgrade makes a HUGE difference. F.Y.I. the different EGO chargers charge at different rates. The dual battery charger that you showed in this video charges slower than the single battery grey chargers (in case you want faster charging). And..if you don't already know....NEVER EVER stick your hands in the snowblowers auger when it gets jammed...always use the provided clean out tool (your phalanges will KISS you for it!). And, in the case that you notice that the chute on your snowblower chute doesn't hold direction/position, early in production of this unit, EGO had a recall/upgrade to fix this issue. Parts for this fix (as far as I know) are free, and the installation is super easy.
just wait until the summer when I use chainsaws the wrong way but still get trees cut down hehe, thank you for watching and for subscribing, hope you are having a good week!
I commend you for getting that out of your car, I bought the same one and had ACE Hardware deliver and assemble it for free. You'll learn to blow the snow the same way the wind is blowing. Since the batteries are so darn expensive to replace, I have a few tips to make them last as long as possible. Store them above 40 degrees and below 104 degrees. Don't leave them on the charger after they're fully charged. Unplug the charger when not charging the batteries. Notice there are bare metal contacts on the charger that charge the battery. If the charger is plugged in and a metal object contacts the bare metal contacts, the charger may be damaged. After use, wait 15 or more minutes before charging the batteries. The batteries need to cool. After charging the batteries wait 15 or more minutes before putting them in the snow blower. Again the batteries need to cool. When storing the batteries for the summer, only charge them to 50%, they will go into a sleep mode and not discharge. I hope we have many years use from our EGO machines.
hi, i didn't know all of those tips on the batteries, I knew to store them inside and not on the charger but not the rest so thank you so much, those batteries are so expensive, I agree, I hope we have many years of use with the EGO's
Should add, don't leave the batteries in an unheated garage or shed when you're not using the snowblower. We keep the charger and batteries right inside the door to the garage until we're actually going to clear snow. So far, it's working like a charm. Once you get used to the process, you're going to enjoy that snowblower - a lot.
I agree, it is a great choice! thanks for watching and for letting me know you have an EGO lawn mower, I am looking at them for a summer purchase, do you have a riding or push mower?
@@marieintheUP I have a push mower, but it's for a small yard. I've heard the EGO riding mowers are great too... I just wish the batteries weren't so expensive.
I saw your comment about a push mower and then tried to respond and it was gone, not sure what happened there, thank you for letting me know you have the push mower!
My daughter has SUV just like you and she has the snow tires and steel rims they gave to her in the deal I was so impressed now I know why Quebec Ont Ca is mandatory for all vehicles to have winter tires and I got winter tires for all my vehicles
yes snow tires are a good idea, they are not mandatory here though, after I turned off the anti traction I haven't had any issues since, stay warm, we have cold cold weather coming in.
Hey Marie,.. thanks for an honest look at picking it up and using it. I have the same snowblower and love it. also,.. you get bonus points for the kitty! Regards, Lindsay 🔋
With a little practice and experience you will be tackling your snow clearing in no time. I just purchased the same unit this fall when it was on sale (10% off). I live in a Lake Effect snow area as well and have experienced a lot of snowfall in the last couple of weeks. I clear my driveway (gravel) which is 120 feet long and two cars in width. I also have a 3 x 10 ft cement walk way and 10 x 10 ft cement pad at the front door that I clear (just four steps to shovel). Through the gate by the garage I clear a 30 foot path past my man door on the garage to my shed. I found that I could walk my EGO blower (in reverse) up 3 steps to my backyard deck that is 25 x 15 feet which I now clear with my EGO 2 stage snowblower. Tip 1) The travel lever interlock with the auger lever lets you keep one hand free (right hand grip or auger lever) while operating to adjust speed, torque, chute rotation and discharge chute. Tip 2) Use torque lever on right side on a setting below TURBO as this will give you more battery time however if heavy snow you may want to use the TURBO setting. 3) Clear out your auger area (please disconnect your battery first) with the green plastic device on the front of the auger housing and perhaps a small broom. This will help any wet snow from freezing and jamming your intake augers and or impeller auger. I had this happen to me and after a few attempts to start the blower one of the auger shear bolts broke. Fortunately on top of the chute there are two spare shear bolts. Had that replaced quickly and on my way. I also ordered four more to keep as spares. 4) In the winter all my batteries I bring inside with their chargers (I just have to remember to take them with me for the snowblower when go out). Once batteries are charged I always remove them from their charger and store on a shelf. Anyway in my working life I was involved with testing almost every snowblower made (before battery power) on a lake north of Sudbury Ontario in the middle of winter. This EGO blows as well as any of the same size gas units I had the opportunity to operate.
thank you! I have been improving with all the helpful tips here- thank you for your comment and the helpful information, how cool that you tested snow blowers in Ontario!
thank you, yeah I wasn't sure how it was going to go, I mean I assumed it was going to be fine or I wouldn't have tried it, but still, could have gone badly too lol
Wow ! That's some serious snow blower. I have the more consumer version of EGO for around 5 or 6 years now. LOVE IT ! I store the batteries INDOORS though as I was told by the factory that storing indoors would significantly extend its useful life.... As you know, batteries are CRAZY EXPENSIVE. So far, I'm still on my original set ! Well done !
they are so expensive you are right! thank you for the advice, I only store batteries indoors, the cold drains them like you said, I am happy to hear that your batteries are still going strong!
Nice job on getting the snowblower down off your vehicle using those light green snow traction gizmos for your car as a ramp, good thinking and I’m glad it all worked out and you did not get hurt.🤗🤗🤗
Lots of good advice here. You’ll learn that you will need to develop several different blowing patterns or techniques depending on which way the wind is blowing and the consistency of the snow. You will also find that blowing the snow as far out into the lawn or woods as possible from the start of winter will keep drifting away from the drive, house and garage. Unlike plowing into piles which quickly adds up and reduces the available space to put snow, blowing is more efficient. Spent a number of year in NW Michigan in a lake affect snow belt. 😊
hi Dave, after a few attempts I finally have a good method for sb my drive and I dont have to shoot the snow far at all. all the advice from you all has really made a huge different. I am thankful for some snow melt and now i will be pushing the snow back and making sure I stay on top on all the snow. it got out of hand really fast. thank you!
You did good by purchasing the EGO. I have a model SNT2405. Very similar to yours. I have had it for over 2 years and it has no problem with the snow. Any snow thrower will have problems when it is that windy. You attacked the snow in the right way. I've had a John Deere and a Cub Cadet and my EGO beats them easily. Btw, you were very smart with the way you were able to get the unit out of your car. I almost hesitated to watch - I did not want to see you get hurt. Have "fun" with your EGO. Btw #2 - I have an EGO mower and leaf blower as well. Both are better than all of the many others I've had in the past. Very good video. I liked the way you kept us informed. MERRY CHRISTMAS and here's to a HAPPY NEW YEAR for you.
awe thank you! I feel like my channel should be titled my misadventures that always seem to work out lol. I am looking into other ego products (focused on a mower- and would love if the mower could also plow snow in the winter) and have heard ego has amazing mowers. thank you for watching and for your comments, merry christmas and happy new year to you too!
I love my EGO yard tools, like they say - power beyond belief. And they start every time, no having to tune up or mix gas. 18" chain saw, blower, weed trimmer. hedge trimmer and a pole saw.
I have a black and decker battery chain saw, a few actually and I like them, i have a gas chainsaw too and like you said, the mixing gas and starting it for me is really difficult and the gas fumes make me sick, I bet the ego chainsaw is better than my black and decker, im going to look into an ego for summer- thank you
Really good video, showed what the blower could and could not do . Clearing heavy wet snow is difficult for any smaller blower and getting turned into a snow person is part of the joys of winter 😊🎩
I couldn't agree more, I am so happy I get to live in the UP and the snow is beautiful. it worked a lot better today because I am learning how to use it correctly and I really cleared a lot of snow with it
Gary’s post is right on. I love EGO stuff. String trimmer is the best. I have the EGO snow shovel. I use it for my sidewalks and decks. I use a John Deere tractor and snow thrower for my driveway. EGO has quality products. I love the convenience of the battery powered equipment. Just put the battery in and go. With the gas powered stuff you need to mix the gas and oil, I always have trouble starting. The battery string trimmer has more power than the gas ones. My EGO trimmer has an automatic string winding head that never gives ma a problem. I also have a hedge trimmer, edger, pole chainsaw, regular chainsaw and blower.
exactly! I forget (on purpose lol because i don't like to deal with it) to drain the oil and stuff in the winter for long term storage and such, and I had a gas lawn mower for years that I couldn't start, and a chainsaw i cant start so i need the battery powered stuff, its perfect for me. good to know abut the ego snow shovel, I like that they can adjust the direction of the snow. thanks for watching
Hello Marie... New Subscriber that just ran across this video as I had just 2 weeks ago delivered a similar EGO Show Blower to My Wheel Chair Bound Adopter Daughter that just started as an RN in Mercy Hospitals ICU! Although she is unable to use it her Mom Can and hopefully will get her out in the Snowy WNY Winters! Thanks for this Video ';-) , Mike
hi, I hope your daughters mom enjoys the ego blower, I really like mine. Thank you for sharing and congrats to your daughter for her new job as an RN in the ICU, thats a stressful job and what she is doing to help others is awesome!
I bought a smaller EGO model back in 2018 and have been very happy with it. I live in Ontario Canada so it's seen quite a bit of action over the years. I charge the batteries before I store them in the spring and I'm always amazing they are still fully charged when I need it the following winter, I think you made a good choice. Cheers from Canada.
You need a Subaru! 😂 Good job using the green planks to get the snow thrower out! You will learn to throw away from the wind. Looking more like a Yooper! ❤
Subarus are absolutely amazing in the snow and ice. I live in Buffalo New York and I've never gotten stuck once in my Subaru. As far as head gaskets go I've never once had any problems with any of my Subarus. They are extremely reliable dependable cars.
Marie, is your current vehicle all wheel drive?? If so, read the owners manual and learn how to turn OFF the traction control whenever you get stuck. Traction control is designed to stop certain wheels from spinning. When you're stuck you WANT all the wheels to be turning to get you unstuck. Lastly, WINTER TIRES on all 4 wheels is a MUST. All season tires are horrible where you and I live in the winter. Yes, this means owning 2 different sets of tires, but trust me it makes all the difference in the world!! Best of luck to you, never give up! 😁💯💯
You bought a great machine. Lower the angle of the chute to avoid the snow blowing back into your face. Particularly when you’re blowing into the wind. You’ll master the job soon enough. 👍
I don’t know if you plan to stay up there long range but snow tires are a must. A good way is to go online, Tire Rack is a good place, and buy snow tires already mounted on rims. I use cheap stamped rims. They’ll deliver them to you, balanced and properly inflated Then you don’t have to go through the tire store wait to change tires from one rim to the other twice a year. Just Jack up the car and slap you tires on on the fall, repeat in the spring. I live in northern Michigan and I’ve been doing this for over 20 years. Best to do it over the phone to insure the correct tires and rims for your car. You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes.
Pretty good for a newbie. Women have to work smarter to make up for lack of brute force/muscle power. I am 71, less than 5ft tall and have been able to do lots of stuff either myself or with another female helper. I hope you read the intruction manual....keep it handy. Welcome to Winter and Happy Holidays. 😊
I admire you for getting that heavy EGO out of your car all alone. I have all EGO equipment except the snowblower, all very dependable. Thanks for the video, enjoy your new EGO and Merry Christmas.
Nice video. Now you need a EGO leaf blower. I have a EGO 765 leaf blower that it looks like the same battery. I'll be waiting for the next video when you purchase a gas powered 2 stage that has some Balls!!LOL Cheers! from Minnesota.
I have a STIHL leaf blower but I like the power snow shovel i bought, it is easier to use to remove the snow from my deck and walk ways. my snow blower is awesome and I love it, cheers!
the batteries are very large and heavy for my snowblower so I don't think i would be able to use a leaf blower with that heavy of a battery for long (my poor arms) lol but I am hoping that the snowblower and ego lawnmower batteries are interchangeable. thank you for the information
Late to the discussion. Grew up in Wisconsin, now in Colorado. Snow tires a must. I like Bridgestone Blizzak. I remember dealing with studs when I was young. Never want to mess with those again. I have chains, but almost never use them. One recent innovation is the AutoSock. Growing up in rural Wisconsin we always had a snowmobile. It was sometimes a week or two until the road crews got out to our house. And they were fun to ride around on in and of themselves.
Ive heard about the auto sock and I am interested, it sounds like a possible fix if needed in a pinch. thankfully my tires are working well now, it was a fluke that I got stuck thankfully. but I will probably get snow tires eventually
That snowblower is okay for small driveways, I guess, but it has way too many plastic parts, and the plastic will eventually crack and break. Your driveway is way too massive and in the long run, the EGO may have been the most practical choice. An Ariens 28" or 30" might have been a better option in my opinion.
I just ran across your vid. I’ve got to say how impressed I am with your persistence, ingenuity, strength, willpower and smarts. You’re obviously a very independent and wise, not to mention beautiful, woman. Even your cats are smart!! LOL! You just got another subscriber!
Got my sister to get one for her wealthy husband for xmas... he loves it. Says starts easy , no mixing oil and gas , no choke and service to start , and it's quieter so using early in morning is better on neighboors
Nice of you to get back to me. Good luck as a yooper. It is absolutely beautiful up there ( I am a troll but get north occasionally for photography trips). Happy Holidays!
hi, happy to talk to you, thank you for the well wishes and the holiday message, I bet you get great shots up here and also in the mitten, Mi is just the best, enjoy the LP, I am missing torch lake, I want to see it all snowy.
At least you had better luck than I did when hauling it out of your SUV. I had no ramps so I took off a closet door from inside the house and used it as a ramp. My heavy beast 30" snow blower made it halfway down the makeshift ramp and then its weight split the door frame. Add cost of 1 closet door to the cost of the snowblower !
Marie heres some very very useful tips for living with the snow and trust me the amount you have presently lets just say you could triple that amount if its a good winter . marie tip one get yourself a set of chains like what trucks use on their tires but keep them in your car when your stuck you put then behind your front wheels on the ground and slowly backup they will get you out of snow ice and mud . second tip is get a proper set of winter tires not 4 season real winter tires youll get better grip on ice and snow and its safer. Tip 3 is always carry a bag of sand salt in your car also carry a jump box or jumper cables . marie at least back in the 80s 90s and we still do it is if your stuck in snow take off the traction stablizer aka the abs then your 2 front wheels wont spin seperate it the work together and you put the car in reverse then drive in a rocking motion you can also get yourself unstuck like on your driveway . ive done these tricks for decades .
Wow nice job getting all of this done by yourself. I'm sure a lot of guys like me watching this held their breath hoping you wouldn't break a bone taking the snowblower out of your car. I was about to go Canadian on you with snow blowing tips but plenty of others have already.
My apologies if this has already been said... For a gravel driveway, consider driving back and forth over the snow after the first few snowfalls. This creates a smooth base of hardened, packed snow that keeps the auger from picking up gravel. The snow has to set, 'sinter', for a couple of hours. Just a thought. I'm located in an area that requires snow tires. Coupled with all wheel drive, it makes all the difference. Like insurance, it costs - but really adds to driving safety.
One of the undeniable truths of owning and operating a snowblower, is the fact the wind always blows from the direction you're trying to send the snow, turning the operator into a walking snowman/snowwoman. There have been times when the wind changes direction, just as I change the direction of the chute.
@@marieintheUP Nokian are probably the best, but frankly whatever your local tire shop carries is probably going to do you great, as long as it has the "3 peak mountain snowflake" pictogram on the sidewall. Changing from "all season" (ha ha ha) to a true snow tire was like magic for me.
@@marieintheUP I would rely on your your local tire show. They will have the experience of what will work the best in your area and vehicle. You will find it will make a big difference.
In windy conditions when you get blowback, change blowing direction or lower the chute deflector that controls distance, that will keep the blown snow more dense and lower so the wind won't be able to blow it.
Thats not doing bad at all. All snowblowers are having a hard time with the cement snow we've been having. I started using a full Bell bicycle helmet with front visor for blowing to stop inhaling the frozen particles of snow air blowing back at you.
thank you, I am going to start wearing a face shield and ski googles, I do need to protect myself from the rocks I keep flinging and it would be nice to block the wind/snow
The snow blower did good job, I'm impressed. It sounds like you need a winter driving kit for your vehicle. I have an old coffee can with a mixture of gravel (or sand) and some ice melt. I also carry a small shovel, a blanket (you might get stuck somewhere, and it will keep you warm) some granola bars. A metal can, like a empty baked bean can with candles, and matches. I live in Nebraska, and some of the winter storms that we get are no joke. Also buy some ski goggles to wear when you are using the snow blower. They really help.
Your cat turning on a light like its no big deal, had me cracking up😅. That EGO snowblower is pretty cool with no gas to mess with or hard starting troubles. Wet heavy snow is the worst and my old 2 stage gas snowblower had trouble with it. Sometimes I ended up leaving the auger off and just driving forward to push wet snow out of the way. Wet snow is no problem with the 3 stage I have now (main front auger, an auger pulling snow towards the shute and a 3rd auger in the shute) With the snowblower off, make sure to clean all the wet snow off the augers when you are done so it doesn't freeze solid when the temperature drops. We all learn that one way or the other, yep I found out the hard way😅
Well done. A tip from an old greybeard: Spray the chute and augers with cooking spray or silicone spray each time before using. This will reduce (although not completely eliminate) clogging when dealing with heavier, wetter snow. Also, get a set of real snow tires, not all seasons. You should have been able to drive right out of that stuff. Love your cats, too. Cheers from Vermont!
Nice video. One suggestion. If you have wet sticky snow to clear spray the inside and auger with a silicone spray. It really helps with plugging issues.
OMG I was holding my breath when you started down those ramps...Could have gone reely bad. Be careful. But good job with the good old fashion ingenuity.
You will need to strategically move the snow with little to no redo. I found starting in the center and blowing in either direction with the wind direction worked for me. Good job, watching the snowblower removal made me a little nervous. 😅 But you did great for single handedly managing that process.
FYI I bought one two years ago. For the most part it works great. However a lot of the internal gearing are made of poly (plastic) material. So things like small stones like the ones found on gravel drives can damage the blower. I've had to replace the internal drive and also one of my side augers were bent. Other than that the blower is great. It's easy to control and can blow snow a good distance.
hi, thanks for letting me know about your experience with yours. im trying to be careful because half my driveway is gravel, it is working well so far thankfully
@@marieintheUP One more thing. I would charge my batteries out in a cold garage. Then I stored them in a warm house. A few days later I noticed that they were flashing Red. I bleeded some of the charge off using a leaf blower. The red flashing stopped.
I have lived in Minnesota all my life and I have a gas snowblower that I use the heck out of. It's an old 5hp blower 2 stage like yours and went through plenty of winters and starts every time. 4 wheel drive is a must where you live and I have a RAM truck that I use with almost 300,000 miles on it since new. There is plenty of us to guide you trough things like this to make your life a little easier for you I like to see what is next for you.
@@marieintheUP yes we do at time but nothing like the lake effect stuff. Last winter we hardly got any snow and ice over the lakes. It was too warm last winter. This year again not to much snow but got really cold earlier this time around so we have good ice coming on around the lakes. I would be gladly to offer any advice you may seek out.
Hi just saw your channel. I am interested in the 2 stage ego. I am in Rhode Island so we don't get a lot of snow. we have had a few 12 inch storms last few winters. Those traction ramps do work well. Best wishes and Happy New year!
hi, I am glad you found my channel! I like the ego, it is working well for me so far, I think if you don't get a lot of snow the ego or even a ego snow shovel may be good. I have an electric snow shovel too and it is great, I use it more than the snow blower but the blower is great for larger tasks. happy new year!
Again, turn up the speed of the auger. That's the only thing making you think it's not as effective as a gas snowblower with deep and/or heavy snow. And, as someone said above, as long as you avoid running into BIG rocks, pebble won't be a problem.
I was shocked, I've. never seen her do that until right then! I like the snow blower, it works even better now that I have learned how to angle the chute correctly!
I was impressed with your ability to get it out of your vehicle. You can learn to blow with the wind and to keep the chute angled so it doesn't blow in your face. Practice practice practice.
Cat litter makes for added tire traction on a pinch. Also airing down tires can give you more traction as well in a pinch. Just air back up once clear of being stuck. For the snowblower, spray the chute and snow intake and impeller with wd40 or fluid film to avoid buildups of snow
It's not a two-stroke lol they probably told you it was a two-stage which means you have just the augurs and impeller one stage would just have the augers and then three stage auger's center impeller and the back impeller
Wow! I got mine from Ace, too. $1500. Then I found them for $1000 on Amazon. Downer. I live in N WI. You? You sound more Chicago than backwoods N. I wouldn’t trade my Ego snowblower for anything at all. You gotta get snow before it melts some and goes ICE, but even then it does a pretty darn good job. I love it. Love your little car, too. MIne’s a gray Wrangler. But your stuff is all you and way too cute and pretty for a big gas blower. Salting the drive is your only answer this time. I did the same thing last winter because I’m lazy. I have ski goggles in clear and dark for getting it in the face occasionally.
Nice job getting that machine out of your Subie solo. Arizona is a beautiful state have been there a few times, love Sedona, Grand Canyon areas, have also done the mighty five of Utah (God's country), Yellowstone, would love to go o Glacier as well. I know it snows in the Flagstaff area not sure how much. Here in the NY Metro burbs not much snow in recent years, just some scattered few inches of wet snow every now and again. The U.P. must be nice, Bob Seger country, always wanted to visit there, on the bucket list. You seem very resourceful, wishing you all the best in this new chapter 👍🏼
I agree, AZ is beautiful, Sedona is amazing, I spent a lot of time there and in Flagstaff, they get a lot of snow, they have a ski resort there. Ive been hearing that NY hasn't been getting as much snow the past few years. I recommend the UP, you should come check it out, its one of the most beautiful places I've lived. thank you for your well wishes!
Oh no! We also tried traction boards when my neighbor’s car got stuck last winter. I was in flip flops and hole-y sweat pants when we were pushing the car during a winter storm 😂😂. We definitely also need a new snow blower, so cool that you’re sharing. And Violet!!
they can be tricky to get to work, you really have to be able to get under the tires and if it is compacted snow/ice it can be a real challenge. stuck in a winter storm in flip flops pushing the car sounds like a crazy experience! I love the snow blower, I did get an electric snow shovel, will show that in the next video and i have to say it is so easy to use. I like it even more than the snow blower and it cost a lot less! isn't violet just so smart!
Pretty smart kitty cat, at first I thought the light was turned on accidentally but then she (or he) turned it on deliberately... Cats are simply amazing at times 😹
I have the same snowblower, it works great! I have a gas snowblower at my other house, and I prefer the Ego model hands down. The gas one is more powerful, but the convenience of a battery unit can't be overlooked. It's noisier than I thought it would be, but far more powerful than I thought as well. Shoot your snow lower when it is windy and you won't end up being a snowman when you are done. One thing the Ego does worse than the gas blower is wet slushy snow. But that is to be expected. It works well on high plow mounds and does what is expected everywhere else. Enjoy your snowblower, you chose a good one.
thank you, I love it and wondered how it performs against a gas snow blower, good to know, i'm happy with my purchase, I want extra batteries for it so I don't have to pause halfway through clearing my driveway, but wow are they pricey.
I wanted an extra set of batteries as well till I saw the price. I'll wait till the original set doesn't hold a charge and need replacement. So far they are just like new. The gas blower I have is an Ariens Deluxe 24". It is much larger, and far heavier. The Ego is easier to handle and does almost the same thing. Be sure to keep the tires properly inflated during the winter, if they are soft your machine will not want to go where you want it to go. Thank you for your reply.
Two things I have found out in 5 years of snow blowing is to pick up branches, doormats or anything that can foul the auger before it snows if possible. The second thing is if you have road salt anywhere you use your snow blower, do those areas first, then when you do the rest of the job, the clean snow will remove salt from the machine. Salt is corrosive, I do the plow mound where the salt from the road is first, then the rest and I don't have to wash out the snowblower afterwards to keep it salt free.
that is good news to hear, I like the snow blower more and more now that I am learning how to use it. I want studded tires but they are illegal in Michigan so I can't use them. But I do think snow tires will help
When it's windy, try to adjust the end of the shoot to be more parallel to the ground to blow the snow more to the side instead of up. I've had to do that myself.
Bonjour Marie! You should definitely have a set of winter tires for your Honda, with that kind of weather it makes a lot of sense. Here in the province of Québec, winter tires are mandatory for all passenger vehicules from december 1st to march 15th. It's a lot safer for everyone on the road. I am familiar with your part of the world, I have travelled across the u.p. dozens of times from 1999 to 2005 as a truck driver from my hometown of Montréal to Fargo. That lake effect snow can be brutal at times but driving on M28 from Sault-Sainte-Marie to Wakefield near the Wisconsin state border is so nice, very popular among snowmobilers and for good reason. As the snow would melt in the spring deers would gather along the road to feed on grass, they didn't seem to be impressed by trucks passing by... In the summer i used to park my rig right next to Lake Superior in Autrain for the night and listen to the waves crashing on the shore as i went to bed. Fall would bring a kaleidoscope of ever changing colours from the trees lining up the road, especially the maples! The upper peninsula is a great place to be, people are friendly and life seems to go by at a much slower pace. Wishing you a happy new year, from Saint-Sauveur, Québec. 🖖 👽 🇨🇦
You said "two stroke" which was funny because a two stroke burns gas mixed with two stroke oil and is a hundred and 80 degrees from this cordless unit lol but I believe you meant two stage as it has the initial auger which is stage one and then the impeller that throws the snow which is stage two. Great job getting it out of your suv!!! That was great!
hi, I know i regret that mix up because I have received like a 100 comments about it lol, thank you for letting me know what it is though I do appreciate your comment, thank you for watching and I hope you have a wonderful new year!
On most snowblowers and I think yours there is a hinged lever at the top of the chute. Point that towards the ground when the wind and snow are blowing in your face. It will propel the snow downward keeping it from coming back at you. Probably in the manual. Good luck from northern New Hampshire where we have similar snow!
Northern NH!! Wow! You are a cold snowy location!! Thanks for the advice, you’re right about the chute and all these comments are helping so much because I did not read the user manual and I think it shows 😂
With a raised chute, it blows the snow further, but causes the blowing snow to blow back at you.
Even if you have to blow the snow again where it didn’t go far enough.
won't blow back
I think its a 2 stage-(not 2 stroke) meaning stage 1 is the augers moving the snow into the chute and the 2nd stage is the second impellor that throws the snow. In contrast to a single stage that uses one spinning part to pull in and throw the snow.
Right. No engine with batteries.
Ego and lake effect amounts of snow might prove too much for those batteries. Also, looks like you have way too much to clean for battery powered equipment.
Yes 2 stage
@@karelmarx8899 I agree she gives little juice and head out she gets a lot in return
I only store and charge my batteries inside to avoid issues and it has worked well like you said
@@marieintheUPyes the batteries are interchangeable. Cheaper to buy mower, weed whip and chain saw with included batteries.
I'm glad you appreciated the realness of the video, I try to be honest about how things are! thank you for letting me know!
BTW, I moved from Arizona to the cold north, too!
@@avlisk that’s amazing! Those az summers really helped me decide I would enjoy a colder climate haha
@@avlisk I have a gravel driveway too so I will try to be more cautious with the rocks I don’t want to brake anything on it. Thanks for sharing this information, it’s helpful to know yours is still going strong!!
@@avlisk Maine is beautiful, you get a lot of snow out there too! Thanks for watching my video and for your comments
I was laughing at your struggles, but then you proved me wrong. Good for you! You go girl. I admire your perseverance. Subscribed.
just wait until the summer when I use chainsaws the wrong way but still get trees cut down hehe, thank you for watching and for subscribing, hope you are having a good week!
Love the snowblower, the car and the cat! You are very pretty and very good at getting things done on your own. Good video.
thank you, I appreciate your comment, I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
I hope we have many years use from our EGO machines.
hi, i didn't know all of those tips on the batteries, I knew to store them inside and not on the charger but not the rest so thank you so much, those batteries are so expensive, I agree, I hope we have many years of use with the EGO's
you don't need to charge to 50% with these batteries they are not lead acid
Should add, don't leave the batteries in an unheated garage or shed when you're not using the snowblower. We keep the charger and batteries right inside the door to the garage until we're actually going to clear snow. So far, it's working like a charm.
Once you get used to the process, you're going to enjoy that snowblower - a lot.
Just getting that snowblower out of the car, I could tell that she’s my kind of gal. Good job!
You good getting the ego snow thrower out of your car!🎉🎉🎉
thank you! I was happy I was able to get it out without damaging it or myself :)
Great video! Great snow blower choice, too. I have an EGo lawn mower and I love it.
I am so glad you are enjoying yours, i really like mine! thanks i think my cats are just the best!
Hint - Aim the shoot in the same direction the wind is blowing and it won't come back in your face...
doing that worked, thank you!
When it’s windy, lower the chute.
When you blow the snow too high up into the air, it’ll blow right back in your face.
You did it! How frustrating tho😆 yayyy! Glad you werent harmed dear heart😉 be safe
thank you, yeah I wasn't sure how it was going to go, I mean I assumed it was going to be fine or I wouldn't have tried it, but still, could have gone badly too lol
Nice work! Spray the impellers and the inside of the chute with some silicone spray to keep snow from clogging.
Thanks for the idea! I'll be sure to pick up some spray!
What a LADY ! I wish her many Blessings and much Happiness !
I am so glad it worked out haha, nothing got broken and it worked out, hope you are having a great day
Lots of good advice here.
I am thankful for some snow melt and now i will be pushing the snow back and making sure I stay on top on all the snow. it got out of hand really fast. thank you!
Great video ... I was rooting for you. I definitely was twisting and turning as u was trying to get it out ur truck. 😂💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
thank you! I wasn't sure how it was going to go haha, but I am glad it worked out okay
@newtotheUPMarie yess
I have a black and decker battery chain saw, a few actually and I like them, i have a gas chainsaw too and like you said, the mixing gas and starting it for me is really difficult and the gas fumes make me sick, I bet the ego chainsaw is better than my black and decker, im going to look into an ego for summer- thank you
Very smart using the skid plates as ramps--impressive how you lifted it up and rolled it down with out damaging the blower or your car
thank you, I was happy i thought of it, other wise im not sure it would have gone as well
Good job handling that snowthrower out of the car
Really good video, showed what the blower could and could not do . Clearing heavy wet snow is difficult for any smaller blower and getting turned into a snow person is part of the joys of winter 😊🎩
I couldn't agree more, I am so happy I get to live in the UP and the snow is beautiful. it worked a lot better today because I am learning how to use it correctly and I really cleared a lot of snow with it
I applaud your persistence and effort to get it out of your car with no help. Congrats on figuring it out. 👏👏👏
Thank you 😊
Gary’s post is right on.

When it's windy you can angle the chute down so that the snow doesn't blow up into the air to blow right back at you 🙂
And turn it so it blows the same way the wind is headed. Not into the wind 🤔😂
Cheers from Canada.
thank you from Canada! that is good news, thank you for sharing your experience with your EGO model
You did good getting it out of the SUV. !!
You need a Subaru! 😂 Good job using the green planks to get the snow thrower out! You will learn to throw away from the wind. Looking more like a Yooper! ❤
thank you! I am looking at subaru for my next vehicle, they are great
@@marieintheUPbad idea head gasket don't buy Subaru if you want to change get the new crv or pilot
Thanks for the tips!
You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes.
yes im going to have to get some good snow tires, i think it will make a huge difference

An Ariens 28" or 30" might have been a better option in my opinion.
hi, thank you for watching and for your comment, I love my snow blower, I am glad you like the brands you like!

😆 it makes its own lil blizzard!👋🌹
At least you had better luck than I did when hauling it out of your SUV. I had no ramps so I took off a closet door from inside the house and used it as a ramp. My heavy beast 30" snow blower made it halfway down the makeshift ramp and then its weight split the door frame. Add cost of 1 closet door to the cost of the snowblower !
oh no, you had quite the experience with your snow blower too. I was lucky, I thought about those traction boards and they were sturdy
You did it! That deserves a sub. Holy Moly. I have one too. Just used it yesterday for the first time

Love your persistence!!! Good job!!!!
That means a lot!

Happy New Year to you too!
Hi in Canada 😊 I was thinking I could get a broken foot or something but thankfully it worked!
Like insurance, it costs - but really adds to driving safety.
love the cat. you're doing a great job. sometimes winter is not fun
thank you, I think she is so smart :)
One of the undeniable truths of owning and operating a snowblower, is the fact the wind always blows from the direction you're trying to send the snow, turning the operator into a walking snowman/snowwoman. There have been times when the wind changes direction, just as I change the direction of the chute.
you paint the perfect picture of it! yep, just as you go to change the direction of the chute, then it gets ya!
Welcome to the UP, I definitely agree with Glenn to get yourself some snow tires, but it'll be fun to watch your journey up North with us Yoopers
thank you JJ, hope you are having a great week!
Such an amazing independent lady very inspirational
Good morning, if you have snow tires installed. It will make a big difference in your driving
I agree, any recommendations on what type of snow tires?
@@marieintheUP Nokian are probably the best, but frankly whatever your local tire shop carries is probably going to do you great, as long as it has the "3 peak mountain snowflake" pictogram on the sidewall. Changing from "all season" (ha ha ha) to a true snow tire was like magic for me.
@ thank you!
Excellent advice.. and with studs if allowed in your state
@@marieintheUP I would rely on your your local tire show.
They really help.
hi, I have a winter driving kit, good idea for everyone up here, have to be prepared for sure! thanks for sharing these tips
Ashes from a fireplace works great to throw under your tires when you get stuck.
good to know, thank you!
Not hurting yourself, your car or the snowblower getting it out of the trunk is deserving of The Congressional Gold Medal I think.
I think so too! thanks for watching
We all learn that one way or the other, yep I found out the hard way😅
im very thankful that you all gave me that advice because I make sure to use the space heater to melt the snow/ice
I'll have to give that a try, thanks for the tip!
OMG I was holding my breath when you started down those ramps...Could have gone reely bad. Be careful. But good job with the good old fashion ingenuity.
@@jimputnam2044 right! I was not sure if it would work and then I worried I’d ruin the snow blower or get hurt in the process but it worked!
@@marieintheUP I was worried it would go side wise and pin one of your legs. OUCH
You will need to strategically move the snow with little to no redo. I found starting in the center and blowing in either direction with the wind direction worked for me. Good job, watching the snowblower removal made me a little nervous. 😅 But you did great for single handedly managing that process.
Wish I had a neighbor like you ❤
FYI I bought one two years ago.
@@marieintheUP
One more thing.
There is plenty of us to guide you trough things like this to make your life a little easier for you
I like to see what is next for you.
thank you so much! hello in Minnesota, you do get a lot of snow there too. sounds like you have all kinds of knowledge to share!
Hey, that thing is pretty cool! Glad you got it outta' your truck.
How do you not get sidetracked by a cat turning on a lamp?!?!?! 🤣😂
right! I'm glad you agree! and thank you, I wasn't sure it was going to land well when I was taking it out lol
@@marieintheUP glad u kept it! Very cute.
Looks like it did a good job. that cat was cracking me up!
I was shocked, I've. never seen her do that until right then! I like the snow blower, it works even better now that I have learned how to angle the chute correctly!
Well on the brighter side you got yourself one hell of a cardio workout
I was impressed with your ability to get it out of your vehicle. You can learn to blow with the wind and to keep the chute angled so it doesn't blow in your face. Practice practice practice.
Cat litter makes for added tire traction on a pinch. Also airing down tires can give you more traction as well in a pinch. Just air back up once clear of being stuck. For the snowblower, spray the chute and snow intake and impeller with wd40 or fluid film to avoid buildups of snow
great tips and I totally forgot about airing down my tires, that would have been easy for me to do, thanks!
She's so adorable!
thanks I try ;)
Love your spirit, Marie! 😊
Oh thank you!
It's not a two-stroke lol they probably told you it was a two-stage which means you have just the augurs and impeller one stage would just have the augers and then three stage auger's center impeller and the back impeller
you are right, they actually said two stage, thanks for the info!
@@JoBiatchI love dad jokes, made me chuckle
Great job dear, I applaud you for making the best of the situation, keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more of your videos 😊
@@Rod-tw8sk thank you! More misadventures to come! lol
I know right! I wasn't sure if it was accidental until she did it again after I turned it off
I have the same snowblower, it works great!
That snowblower looks like it works about as well as any I have. The answer to your car's traction is studded snow tires-they are a game changer.
that is good news to hear, I like the snow blower more and more now that I am learning how to use it. I want studded tires but they are illegal in Michigan so I can't use them. But I do think snow tires will help
When it's windy, try to adjust the end of the shoot to be more parallel to the ground to blow the snow more to the side instead of up. I've had to do that myself.
that has made a huge difference!
I honestly thought pulling that out of the car was going to go way worse lol, glad it didn't though. Good job!
thank you, I wasn't sure how it was going to go either, but i figured I could get it out of the car one way or another hehe
I love hearing about your experience in the U.P., thanks for sharing! I'm so happy you enjoyed it.
Right on
You said "two stroke" which was funny because a two stroke burns gas mixed with two stroke oil and is a hundred and 80 degrees from this cordless unit lol but I believe you meant two stage as it has the initial auger which is stage one and then the impeller that throws the snow which is stage two. Great job getting it out of your suv!!! That was great!
hi, I know i regret that mix up because I have received like a 100 comments about it lol, thank you for letting me know what it is though I do appreciate your comment, thank you for watching and I hope you have a wonderful new year!
@@marieintheUP Thank you, and you have a wonderful New Year as well!!
Well you Brought a Smile To the Face of the Snow Man with that Pretty Snow Blower
hi, thats what I want to do, bring smiles :) thank you for watching!
Seems like you have everything under control. Enjoy the snow!
