  • When I first decided to do review the 2020 BMW X7, I thought to wait for the 2020 Lincoln Aviator and see if I could compare these two 3 row seaters or 7 seaters as you may like to call me.

I understand that for some, the BMW X7 is better suited in a comparison video vs the 2020 Lincoln Navigator, I just thought to do something different.
Special thanks for this video goes to BMW Performance located in St Catherines, Ontario:

This video was made mostly as a review of each individual car in detail with some comparisons in between. I understand some people will take this as the wrong comparison, and I understand that. I wanted to see how these two stack up and review them individually since I wasn't able to do a video on the X7. I respect everyone's opinion, but someone said, you don't make it by following the rule. If you want a comparison X7 vs Navigator, well you can look it up I am sure there is one. I do apologize for the long video, but it is a detail review, and both these have a lot of features. Also, special thanks for this video goes to BMW Performance in St Catherines. Without dealership's help, my comparisons will never happen. It's very hard to get two press cars at the same time, almost impossible, especially if they are two different brands.

As we see reliability and repair costs were an added in because that would have completely changed the whole outcome. Those BMW are not reliable according to JD Powers Powers and Linclon has been killing it the last few years.
And a five star rating from consumers report.

For me as a FAMILY driver (7People) and also for AGGRESSIVE driving, I only compare Size, Aesthetics, Power Engine, Elastic Power Engine, Gearbox, Accessibility to the 2nd and 3rd row of seats, LUGGAGE SPACE, Conductivity comfort and PASSENGERS, Weight vs Consumption (Diesel and Eletric), and some GadGETs.
Former Chrysler Grand Voyager STo Go LX 2005, with the size it has, with Porche type design, with seat system, With accessibility of the Slyding door (with OPEN glass), with no finger trapping system, with the boot space that it has (refounded), with remote ignition system, with Multimedia Kit of the 2007 version, if an ENGINE and Gearbox of any of these were applied, together with some Gadgets was WONDER. The big FAMILIES had the ideal car / SUV for everything and anything. For me Lincoln With some adaptations, of both (X7, elastic engine, powerful and in the ECU with the XDrive 5.5, with prompt response - aggressive and dynamic), the Mercedes GLS (system to remove the car from Lama / Areias), Cadilac 2021 (when driving without hands), Aviator (BANKS vs comfort, powerful engine), On the Lexus LX (on the ability to raise the vehicle for certain situations vs obstacles). All of these moderns all lack accessibility despite having automatic STEP (which uses more battery and increases the likelihood of having problems later). All of them lack the ability to be driven in the city, to be electric, the Plug in type with Batteries. Because to keep these Great ROAD Beasts with Cooling / Heating and all Gadgets, and walking in the city does not start, combustion kills those who walk. For me, I took the Lincoln Design aesthetic and because it was longer in length, semi classic and made multiple adaptations to obtain the ideal vehicle

TheWorldisFlat by Porsche I think at this point in time Lincoln couldn’t justify an increase in price ... however Lincoln is mid re-branding - they are focusing on ensuring people pay the actual retail price without offering discounts which allows the brand to have better residuals (That’s why Joy took over as President) ... and I believe the mid life cycle refreshes of the new designs they just brought market which will be due in 2-4 years will solidify Lincoln’s focus on quality and luxury as well introducing the sub brand of direct comparison Mercedes / Land Rover Autobiography luxury vehicles which will all carry the Continental brand name - a continental sedan, coupe, and SUVs all with grand touring power plants

We went with the Aviator GT Black Label and looked at the X7 and the MB GLS models. Ultimately all super vehicles and each has something I wish was in the others and each as quirks. It came down to value and when you try to make the X7 and MB GLS comparable to the Aviator GT BL in performance and features the price difference is between 35 and 50K more for the Euro vehicles. Could not get myself to pay 40K more just to have the BMW or MB badge.

@@veneelable My wifes vehicle and she loves it. I have driven it a few times solid build, quiet, comfortable beyond belief and very very quick for an SUV. She went from minivan life to this now that we are empty nesters. We looked at Lexus GX and LX, Audi Q7, MB GLS, BMW X5 and X7, Volvo XC90, Cadillac XT6 and step downs Kia/Hyundai Telluride/Palisade, Toyota Highlander, Acura MDX, Infinity QX60 and some that don't really compete like Mazeratti Levante, Porsche Cayenne for performance fun. We did a lot of driving and research she was looking for the right fit in size, comfort, performance and safety. A lot of those other vehicles are really nice but she knew she wanted something upper end, had to have power and luxury quiet and comfort and the MB GLS and BMW X7 were closest we thought but with all the bells and whistles were coming in at least 30K more. Volvo and Audio were just a tad too small for her. Caddy we thought was just an awful retro fit like Lincolns used to be. Lexus 570 was nice, but too big and the GX we thought was one of the most dated vehicles we have ever driven. Very impressed with the KIA/Hyundai for value and we were not in a position to afford the Lincoln we would have really considered them they were really impressive for that range. Acura and Infinity were too small and WAYYYYY under powered.

Not bad for the Aviator to be compared to what been considered the new top luxury 7/8 passengers SUV. All the features that are missing from it and offered in the X7, mostly are gimmicks and are not essential. I also consider the Aviator as 1st Gen as the X7, but X7 is inheriting the tech of a long luxury brand that been in development for a long time with targeted competition such as GLS & Q7/8. with lesser 20K, I'll take the aviator anytime.

Thanks for a detailed comparison. I was hoping to hear you compare the handling between the two since BMW has always been known for its sporty handling.
I just got a 2020 Aviator Grand Touring Black Label & love it. Kudos to Lincoln since I’m a big Tesla’s fan & I’ve been driving Tesla since 2013. I thought that I would never buy a gasoline car again. My last was a 2016 Tesla X which has a sportier handling & much faster acceleration. But the Aviator is pure LUXURY & the ride is as smooth as silk. The Revel 28 speakers sound system is the best in a car that I’ve ever experienced. Aviator Copilot 360 plus’ adaptive cruise control & lane centering is actually BETTER than my 2016 Tesla X’s auto-pilot! Aviator’s engagement & disengagement of cruise control & lane centering is seamless compared to Tesla’s.
Aviator Grand Touring has impressive HP/torque & a pretty decent acceleration in Excite driving mode. I only miss 2 things from my Tesla: no stop for gas & the regenerative braking that automatically applies braking as you let off on the gas pedal, this allows minimal time spent on the brake pedal as you come to a stop.

that feature is offered and probably standard by now, for the Aviator with the trailer hitch towing package. but with the complicated tailgate design of the x7, being in two pieces, it probably would have been a "buggy" feature if they attempted to put it on that x7. for me, i don't like that x7 tailgate design as when you lower it, its in the way and you cannot reach as far into the car as if the entire tailgate was raised and out of the way.

You can confirm this on the BMW site. The BWW is awesome but the Aviator is world class. Great to see that the Lincoln can compete on any stage.

On another note, while I appreciate a power 2nd row of seats, can we please have a manual mechanism for getting into the 3rd row? Both MB and BMW have notoriously over-engineered the simplicity of getting into the 3rd row, needlessly powering that too. I can't imagine having to wait in inclement weather for the 2nd row to 'show-off' and not in a hurry to get out of the way for access. And it's not like they give you much space to climb in. Then another wait for the seats to return to their not original starting position. Frustratingly so!

I've owned several BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar sedans and wanted to try something different, so I only cross-shopped the Aviator with the Volvo XC90 Inscription. I actually landed on the Volvo after driving it - fantastic machine, tight as a drum and drives MUCH smaller than it is - and even placed a deposit on one. But I changed my mind at the last moment based entirely on the Aviator's looks (inside and out) and high feature content. I've only had it for a week, but loving it so far!

I am currently in the market for a 3rd row SUV and I have driven a number of vehicles to get a feel of what I want. I have driven the Acura MDX (both versions), the Lexus (multiple), the XT5, the XC90, the X7 and the Aviator. Out of all these, the Aviator blew me away. The next one was the X7 but on balance, the Aviator seems to be a better purchase (unless you are going for the badge). The X7 is slightly more firm on its drive and the tech is more fancy, but the Aviator has the ludicrous level of hp and torque to compensate. It’s was definitely on the plush side. More importantly I had my family along and their uniform opinion was that the Aviator was more comfortable and with well thought out interior design (they hated the way the cupholders and vents were arranged in the X7 compared to the luxury of the full console). On top of that there is the 12k premium which I feel in this case is absolutely not justified. Finally we are going with the Aviator GT which is obviously closer in price to the X7 but is still eligible for federal tax credits. Thanks for the review

I agree with everything you said. but one puzzling remark about the x7 might be chosen for the "badge". To me, the Lincoln name, while a retro luxury brand to millennials, is still a top tier brand thats been known for building luxury cars for over 100 years. To me, it has more upscale and luxury credentials than a bmw which i think of mostly as a harder riding, more sports car type vehicle than a bona fide luxury car. I mean, my mother's cleaning lady has a new bmw. i just don't see that brand as being a true luxury car

A fully loaded grand touring black label Aviator compared to a X7550i would surely be interesting. X7 has things the Aviators lacks due to a much higher price tag, but the Aviator also has feature the X7 doesnt.

The point? Germans know how to make luxury vehicles that work well. The aviator has nice features and is comfortable but execution and build quality suffer. Their launch was horrible, the problems they've been having atrocious. Also, very soft and uninspiring to drive (70 hp advantage, smaller, still slower, less fun to drive, led towing capacity). Not bad if you're older and just want to cruise around. But otherwise, that's the point of bmw and Mercedes. There's a reason why they are the leaders in sales globally.

M3ForLife Yeah, you don’t know dick. Lincoln doesn’t even come on the radar for me and most other people with money unless you are above 75 years old. Porsche and Mercedes as well as the full size Range are its competition. No one drives these Lincoln’s in my area in Charlotte where there are at least 500 millionaires in a 5 mile radius. Never seen one damn Lincoln.

Speaking Truths - You don't know dick! There was a time when Lincoln and Cadillac were kings of the road! Mercedes and BMW were ugly plastic compact cars.

the man doing the review is obviously struggling to portray the x7 better by brazenly misleading on some of the features. for example, the 2nd row seats do have optional (maybe standard by now) power sliding 2nd row seat feature thats the same as x7. He must know that. but states the Lincoln doesn't have it. the truth is the particular car he is testing doesn't have it. but its available.
Same thing with the folding flat seats. the second row on the lincoln has a power slide forward option. not sure if the "power " lay flat feature available on second row seat. but i know they can lay flat by switch on side of the seats. Anyway, the difference in operation between the two cars seats is negligible. But this review is such that the "ignorant" would think the x7 is vastly better in that regard. But in fairness to this man, he is reviewing the two cars in the parking lot of the bmw dealer. I think his name would be "mud" with that dealer if he did a comparison with a competitors product on their premises where the competitor vehicle came out favorably. I am sure he'd be declared persona non grata if he didn't do his best to put their x7 thing in the best light he could
