It’s the sad fact. The running cost of “performance” cars is just too much these days. As much fun as I get out of my GTI, I sometimes wonder if getting a basic Camry or rav4 would have been better.

I’m old and boring enough to be happy with my hybrid CUV. It’s quiet, comfortable, and has good tech for being 10 years old. The roads around LA are bad enough I just want to keep my kidneys happy :)

*LC500 - Looking for young hotties.
*X7 - Looking to have kids with a hottie.
*Rav4 - Having failed at both, I give up on life and pursue inner happiness instead.

I had the same exact X7, 2021 M50i. No captains chairs thankfully. Loved it. Great car.
Unfortunately, I had to sell it last year when I moved out of the country. At least used car prices were good.

I had the same. Last 2 years and had the realization that the v8 wore off and didn’t know why I had it. My 8 year old also hates how long it took for the bench to go down and she just exited thru the hatch.

So funny, this is the same thing that happened to me after every BMW I purchased. I would pick one up two years old, LOVE it, then slowly get worn down by the cost of consumables. Good review, honest and objective.

2023 MDX advance Owner here - Nothing but joy driving this vehicle. I had a RX350 in the past. The MDX base advance is what I really need for NYC traffic.
I personally think the 40i with B58 is plenty for everyday driving. It will reduce that feeling of bleeding money that Mark has mentioned.
Absolutely. For the second-hand market buyers, it is really important to know the the xDrive40i B58 engine models are much cheaper, and will arguably be less costly in the long run. Even if it's only due to better fuel mileage, and cheaper regular maintenance. That said, the V8s in the M50i M60i and xDrive50i X7s are several comprehensive revisions beyond what could previously be known as the worst BMW engine ever: the N63.
The newer versions of the N63 are a far-cry from the original failure that once was in the late 2000s and early teens. In our experience as a BMW repair shop, these newer V8 N63/S68 engines are fabulous to own. The N63TU2, TU3, and TU4 engines, along with the new S68 V8s are worth looking into if you need that power. I don't think you'll find a more potent engine on the market in this segment. BMW has had a lot of time to figure the TTV8 out. They didn't give up on it, and 15 years later we have the best versions. I hope the stigma of BMW V8s being a nightmare continues to fall away.

I had my wife test drive EVERY 3 row SUV from top spec Lincoln Navigators to Honda Pilots and you would never guess which she loved most. The Chevy Traverse. Fast forward 2 years and she still loves it to death. Zero issues.

Funny you mentioned the Traverse. I have a 2018 High Country that for the past 2 years I have wanting to replace. I have test driven a lot of SUVs including the X 5 and the X7. I always come back to my Traverse as being a hell of a lot of car for the money. The interior is almost luxury at a fraction of the cost and the digital rear view mirror the X& doesn't have it. The 2024 Traverse will be out soon. If the UAW quits the strike.

Yeah I think its the better decision if it's your daily. You get better consumable costs. Can get 28-30mpg on the highway. B58 is fairly reliable too.
I saw an X7 at costco and asked the owner how he liked it. He said he loved it and mentioned most of the issues on with the V8. Noted. Love this but I'd pass on the V8 everyday of the week and twice on Sundays.

Thank you for the review, Mark. X7 M60 owner here and this review pretty well reflects my experience.
I would add X7 pricing destroys GLS as well as Cayenne and Range Rover.
Callouts:
-Usually have the third row down, making it an extended X5
-Always have the gesture control disabled
-Captains’ chairs are comfortable but not folding all the way down flat is a huge compromise
-The slow seats movements don’t bother me
-Front seats are fine but the 7 series sedan seats are much softer
-The first set of summer tires lasted about 10k miles
-Gas mileage is terrible with any spirited driving
-AC is weak
-Seat ventilation is weak
-Massage function is so mild they shouldn’t have bothered
-Heated and cooled cup holders barely delay the march to temperature equilibrium
-Fake engine noise (can be disabled)
-Fake exhaust ports
-B&W stereo is exceptional
-Don’t mind the 48V hybrid at all
-New models removed the comfort access sensors from the rear doors as well as ambient air, rear seat entertainment, and night vision options
-Interior construction and ergonomics are well thought out
-Main issue with suspension is pitch more than roll which is surprising given vehicle length
-The Android and iOS apps add a lot of convenience
-The driving assistance features are well executed with the ability to use them fully or partially

I totally agree to all you say. I really hate the weak AC, specially in SoCal at 109 degree weather. The max AC is worthless. I also hate the auto of on (ASS), and the quietness. I mean, it’s suppose to be close to an M car…
I have had the ‘19 50i, ‘20 M50i, and now ‘23 M60i. My favorite was the ‘20. Everything worked perfectly, and it had the ASS disabling button.

As a technician for BMW from 2014 to 2017, I would be really really apprehensive of owning a V8 from them, but if they really have improve cooling, the material for the valve guide seals, and all of the coolant hose and ventilation hoses on the engine, oh, and the timing chain stretch issue, the rest of the engine should be pretty bulletproof

Why'd you stop in 2017?
Yes hearing that this V8 was one of the most reliable was news to me so thank you for adding to the conversation. My F85 X5 M had a cracked cylinder and in general use a lot of oil in between services, but at least I got a new engine under my extended warranty and this replacement engine works like clockwork so far.
What do you think? Its been 6 years since you last worked on them and more than a decade of evolution of the N63 engine. And well, yeah, a mechanic isnt the intended target of a V8 bimmer anyways. You nutheads still seem to not realize how certain things require a way higher degree of attention and maintenance that only big wallets can properly afford... Theres nothing more telling of a shitty maintenance than a timig chain stretching. Maybe, just maybe, you should take a look at the owners too... Knuckheads buying bimmers and treating it and expecting civic reliability are a recipe for disaster.
And lastly, for the 100th time, learn how to diferentiate between personal experience and bias and actual data. You only saw broken V8s cause you were a frikin mechanic. A Lexus tech will also see mostly broken Lexus'. What the hell do you expect?
Toyota proofed these power trains while doing that partnership for the Supra. All the engines are bulletproof if you have a 2019 or newer

I have to say this video was a breath of fresh air in regards to how you speak and relay your feedback. I bought a fully loaded (no captain seat) used X7 M50i for $80K (18K miles). It is an amazing car for this price. It is fast, quiet interior, extremely comfortable, and has an amazing engine noise when you push it. Even driving mountain roads at high speed, very minimal bodyroll (maybe it is related to dynamic handling package). If you get the M60i, you will paying nearly 100K even for an used one. Personally I prefer the M50i more than the new one. Still have 1 and a half year warrenty left, so I am not too concerned about potential repairs (so far not a single issue, driven almost 8K miles in many many family road trips). Maintainces cost are very reasonable at my local BMW dealership (This is my 5th BMW). For those who are shopping for this car, I don't recommend getting captain chairs and upgraded wheels. When I was shopping, the ones with captain chairs are cheaper than the ones without. The 21" tires are all season so it is much better than the 22" performance tires. It snows a lot in my area, so I prefer only using one set of tires rather than getting another set of winter tires.
This is the perfect family super car for those who enjoy performance, comfort, technology, and have kids.
Does your vehicle engine/hood stay hot/warm hours after driving?
@@UtotheJ not sure I noticed. But the fan will always run for like 5 minutes after driving. I think this is their default behavior and not because of high temperature.

Own a ‘21 X5 M50i- This review perfectly captures what it’s like to live with this one of these things. Like Mark, I paid through the nose for the extended warranty so I could sleep at night. Seat ventilation is a joke, now I know why very few dealers spec with with it. Gesture control is kinda cool for forwarding tracks, volume control and some other stuff but is a gimmick for sure. That said, the V8 doesn’t get old.
Lexus has great ventilated seats (cooling)
I don't like the V8. Way too many hoses and fittings to go wrong as the vehicle ages. From a mechanic's POV, the inline 6 would be the better option. It's still reasonably fast and has better fuel economy. The N63 is the only engine I don't like working on/fixing. Everything is a mess with the hoses

i down graded from a x5 m50i to a 2024 xdrive40i and i thought its what i should have started with, funny thing is after driving the sDrive, its REALLY what i should have done. it feels much lighter, and has a great driving impression. alot of people myself included looked at the Sdrive as the entry level, but the truth is an sdrive with M sport package pro is really what someone who wants a sporty drive should not over look.

I’ve owned my X7 40i for a few years now. I gotta say I felt like this review took my quiet thoughts about the car and put them in a video. Agreed with virtually everything. We love it though, it’s been great and reliable. More reliable than our X5. I also have two Nuna car seats in there covered in apple juice and remnants of Pb&j, so agree it’s annoying with the floor anchors behind the middle row captain seats. But we have so much room for the kids, strollers and groceries. It drives like a sports car in an SUVs body. We do a lot of road trips and live an hour away from anything and I think you just gave the most accurate and relatable review here. I highly recommend but would say only if you’re okay with the monthly price/cost.

My m340i has been amazing. Only issue I had was the driver side mirror shorted out bc of a water leak which also shorted out the module for the laser lights. Since that was fix, no issues. Good thing I have a extended warranty lol.

@@adeezy5503 I got my m340i last year for $48k with 27k miles. Still had 1 year left on factory warranty. My m340i is nicely speccef with the engineering motorsports (cooling and performance package), vernasca leather, laser lights, and premium package which includes heating seats and heads up display. I’m glad it doesn’t have adaptive suspension as that will be expensive to replace down the road.

They work fine, but they are not "cooled seats" or "seat coolers", just ventilation. You dont get sweaty in summer if you turn the seat ventilation on. I wouldnt want another bmw with leather seats without seat ventilation

Great piece - thank you. Very similar logic to my own back in 21. I had the choice of this or SQ7 in the UK. Went Audi on pricing (20% lower here with discounts) and felt the smaller Audi slightly better for UK and Europe but X7 looked great and I am a BMW fan (own a Z1).
I think an interesting video would be a "bachelor" type of contest where you are looking for the X7 Replacement, you get an MDX a CX-90 a Kia, a Navigator and a Lexus and see what works best for you. basically covering anywhere from 45 to 65K to keep it reasonable (thus no Q7)
I think the CX-90 would be perfect for him.
You could get a decently speced 4 cylinder Q7 in the low 60s and a decently speced 6 cylinder one in the high 60s (also there's always used Q7s and even Q8s out there)

Q7 is actually in the same segment as X5 and GLE. But X5 doesn’t offer 3rd row seats so they have wider 2nd row seats

Watched this a second time and I wonder if mark would’ve been better buying a base 40i rather than a fully loaded m50i to avoid the firm suspension and poor running cost of high fuel consumption, air suspension costs, super huge tire size cost, active sway bar cost, etc.
We have diesel in Europe, which suits much better to SUV. Even M50d with 400HP before FCL, now 340HP only. But still…
Sure but the truth it's a car for someone who makes 3 to 400k a year. I don't know marks finances but I don't think he made the type of money the vehicle commands. Thus the consumables were killing him. Not unlike the people buy used S classes and get crushed financially after a single dealer visit.
The I6 is the one to buy. Even an enthusiast with a large platform and income stream tired of the V8s downsides.
@@bigcjm I don’t think he had an issue affording it, it’s just beyond his needs and ridiculous no matter how you slice it. He’s always had practical, reasonable vehicles. I can see how over time this wore on him.
@@sapereaude7776The M50d is just baffling to me. Two more turbos that can go wrong, worse fuel economy while not being that much quicker than a 40d and noisier on the highway at higher speeds due to gears being shorter.
Great and honest review. I have the ‘21 X7 40i with the 3 seater 2nd row and I’m more than happy. Geeked to be honest. I understand that maintenance may be costly compared to others, but man, it’s so worth the whole package of what you get here with the X7. From the look, luxury, comfort and performance I am in love. I’m far from wealthy but I can’t imagine getting any other 3 rowed SUV. Maybe a Range Rover? But this sporty X7 drives like a sedan to me. So I think I would be sticking to this model until otherwise specified!

Man yours is basically a unicorn. I have a 2021 M50 and wanted the tvs for my brats as I keep them locked in the car all day as I’m in important business meetings. They discontinued after the 2020 model year. The heated center console has broken 3x since buying in October 2020, but that is the coolest feature on the car. It’s dumb but amazing. I’m in warm climate so can’t imagine how much greater it is for Illinois winter. Also looking to get into something smaller more efficient but cant bring myself to get into a numb experience of a Lexus hybrid product.

Great piece! Would love to hear the long-form analysis on the buying process for the replacement. I think there are a lot of families that are looking at the jump into the family hauler purchase that would lean towards the "buy once, cry once" mentality for a family vehicle with bulletproof reliability and reasonable running costs. I know I would and I am looking to make that upgrade from an XC-40 in the next year.
All I know is Mark makes rather poor car purchases.

I got a 40i without absolutely ANY idea about bmw in general. I actually got it as an alternative to a highlander, which was more expensive and smaller. I am (so far) super glad i got the b58. Haven't had any issues whatsoever in 4 months that ove had it. (I got it at the dealership witg 30k by the way). Very very happy with it. Sometimes i wish i had the 50i but then i see my mpg and forget about it 😂. Great video 🎉
Traded my 2022 X7 M50i in for a CX-90 a few months ago for all the same reasons as this video. Couldn’t be happier and never looked back. Great video!
Can you give a quick review on the Mazda? How's the third row? What drivetrain did you get? How's the steering?
@@danielrd7493 Gladly! I love it! Have about 5k miles on it and no issues at all. It’s no X7 but it’s also half the price and the interior punches above its weight. The steering is surprisingly good for its size and weight. It’s direct and weights up well, but still is electronic power steering on an SUV so theres only so good it can get. I have the Turbo S Premium Plus. I wouldn’t call it fast, but it’s not slow. I would say the transmission logic holds the inline 6 back pretty heavily in terms of fun. But, I’m averaging 24mpg combined (with a bit of a lead-foot), but it easily gets 32 highway. For reference my M50i was getting 16mpg combined and would struggle to get 21 highway.

We have a 2020 x740i. In the last two years the only thing to fail is the rear seat motor. It's been stuck at the dealer for two weeks. I hate the seat motors. They get confused; don't lock properly. I wish there was a full manual function to fold the seats. With a larger family this was my biggest let down.
Otherwise it's a 7 seater supra. Love the power train and especially the transmission
About 85%, maybe even more, of your observations about the X7 are identical to my experience with a 2017 Cayenne Turbo. The Cayenne's interior has usable buttons (benefit of the older gen) and is a great luxury experience like your X7 (fuzzy headliners unite), it's also got the big ol' V8 for on-ramp domination, but big power is a rarely usable party trick with these SUVs and costs will kill you.

At your final thoughts, as they say people who get this type of vehicle really do not bother too much on the running cost because money isn’t an issue. As normal people, it really is both a joy and pain to have! I also cannot agree more on your last point that it’s hard to put this behind and pick something more normal.
I feel the lesser equipped luxury SUVs are the way to go. Much lower running costs while still offering that quiet, luxury experience.
I copped the same spec just with black interior and I'm more than satisfied. This review is great!

Thank you for this! Ive driven the MDX Type S Advance for a week along with a fully spec'd X7 40i and you're right it does feel boaty compared to feeling engaged in spirited driving in the MDX. I originally was considering your exact model 2020 X7 M50i used vs a new MDX Type S, however I may have to reconsider since I am very hands-on with DIY maintenance. Ive gotten quotes in NYC for an engine drop service to do Walnut blasting etc and long term I feel like the MDX is the more financially sound choice. Thank you again for such a detailed unbiased review on both vehicles! I do keep my vehicles for 10+ years if that matters.
No one else is creating content of this quality this consistently… I only buy my car’s based on what Mark says. I don’t need to do any more comprehensive research he does it and I think him for it.

I leased my 2022 X5 based on Mark and Jack's review. Got the B58 motor and love every drive!
I drive one of these for work, hotel Chauffer in San Diego. This is our house car. It’s rough riding, always having warning lights on, and it goes through expensive tires like there’s no tomorrow. Guests always complain how rough it rides! My Lexus with 314k miles is way smoother. The X7 is more of a drivers SUV, not a great passenger car.

I'm on my 3rd X7 and love them. 2019, 2021 40i's and now a 2024 M60i. I agree the V8 is not necessary, but it sure is fun. My draggy is showing 4.1 to 60 and 12.4 @ 110. Also, pulling .91g through turns. I miss the mix of buttons of the pre-lci, but it's easy to adapt to the on screen controls and the new screens are glorious. I bought it because for me, there is no better driving LARGE SUV. Put it in sport mode and your gonna need a pretty high end sports car to keep up!
This is how you do it. Spend a crap load in monthly payments, insurance, tax and licensing - what... 3k/month would you say? - and drive worry free! Bada bing Bada boom.

great video and great honest content. I have a 2020 M50i and I love it, went from a f82 M4 due to needing more room. This fills in the gaps pretty well aside from just the SUV size. I hate the cost of the consumables as I am on my 3rd set of tires at a cost of 2.5-3k and I have 38k on the clock. My only issue I had was a high pressure fuel pump went out and it sat at the dealer for over 4 months due to no availability from BMW.
I got the bmw x7 2019 x40i for $50k with almost all the bills and whistles and it’s one of my favorite cars I have ever owned. I had to spend 6k on extended warranty to 100k miles but it’s definitely worth it. I recommend getting an X7 over any other 3 row car. I almost got the v8 but I heard it’s not as reliable as the inline 6, plus, I wouldn’t have utilize it more than 5% of the time not to mention the fuel economy of a V8 (mine gets 20mpg combined) get the X7 in-line 6 and you won’t be disappointed

@@moelo5930 yes, there is plenty of space, I would recommend getting seat covers so the leather isn’t damaged. The only downside that it take FOREVER to move the seats to access the 3rd row
9:13 I discovered many years ago that sensible and practical is actually the upgrade. My net happiness was always lower when I had a big, expensive, depreciating asset in my garage.
The reality is the target market for this and other luxury SUVs is made up of buyers who lease, not buy, and the Germans have figured this out . . . they deliberately design the vehicles to fail one way or another after the warranty runs out.
@@LearnAboutFlow If you say so, I noticed that most owners actually lack in care/maintenance and gentle driving which leads to component failures and then they act surprised because they think a high price tag means nothing will ever break or need service. I have serviced my 2016, 2020, 2022 BMWs way before the system would even tell me to do it and drive them with moderate intensity, V8 and inline 6 as well as 4 cylinder, and all I had to do over the years was watch the tire thread, buy sport tires, replace valves, shock absorbers, most of which was on a 2016 ofcourse but for three cars even if I didn't have warranty it never surpassed 10K in total. Ofcourse there may be lemons, but if you take great care -- they will run well a very long time. Moreover, if someone is overly worried about service costs, it is a wrong brand segment to get into. I love the cars so I am actually happy if something is replaced with new because I know it will run well during my ownership.
All depends on what you can afford. For myself, I just do not like other designs and do not mind the running costs at all. With good personal care their vehicles run without a problem and high expense.
@@21Pogon That is simply not true and the repair records and quality ratings prove it. The German cars are hit or miss as far as quality, which has ZERO to do with how well you maintain it. BMW, Audi (always garbage) and Mercedes know their vehicles need only last as long as the lease. My friend's CPO BMW i8 proved that in spades. A small plastic part FAILED and caused $24k in engine repair. The car was like five years old, and had very low mileage. Plus, the part melted a few days AFTER he had the car serviced and inspected by the BMW dealer. Luckily he had the extended warranty.
@@LearnAboutFlow I heard that i8 was a nightmare for reliability too. As I said, it can be expensive and there are lemons. But if you didn’t get a lemon and take excellent care, there should not be any problems. My vehicles: X1 F48, X3M and X5M all have no lower than 4.2/5 reliability rating. I can attest simply from own experience of not having problems, I do my own service though and save that way but I service often depending on how I drive and annual service costs come out to be about 2 thousand dollars, which is cheap imho.

Excellent video, Mark. We owned a 2019 X7 40i and traded it in with 90k miles for a 2022 X7 40i that now has 47k miles. Both were and have been extremely reliable. Definitely agree that it's difficult to move on to another platform once you're familiar with the previous gen BMW interior functionality. Keep up the great work!
My parents just got a Certified 2020 X7 40i with 48k miles now that prices have come down. It will go back under warranty to get a CV joint replaced because there is a popping noise at low speed turning. Have you had to replace anything to do with the suspension or steering?

@@nealp885 My first BMW is a 2022 X5 m50i. I bought brand new, has 33k miles. Great drive but at 25k miles I had to replace left and right tie rods, and about 30k miles a clicking noise started on right front axle. Haven’t had it checked yet but I have a suspicion that it’s the CV joint. I’ve never had this much trouble out of a new car. I’m starting to regret my purchase. Also, tires replaced at 25k and the cost is outrageous. Wasn’t prepared for that.

With all due respect, you bought a German luxury car with a powerful engine. Did you expect maintenance costs to be like a 2006 Honda? IMO it’s worth it because nothing Japan puts out is as luxurious or as powerful German cars. Even going from a Camry to a C class of the same model year is a night and day difference.

I own a 2021 X7 fully loaded -and funny you said the cup holders are trash! Absolutely and from day one the center cup console wireless charger etc did not work. But I finally got the dealership to fix it! Idk if it will continue working. I had to really go back and forth...w service about 5 times bc their rationale for not fixing made zero sense. Long story short we got to the owner of dealership and did a quid pro quo's between businesses.
And yet the service manager said don't put drinks in there like wait what!? it's the drinks causing the issue a build up on the wires.
I had to fight tooth and nail.

I think you should consider the X5 inline 6 w multicontour seats, and some other packages, but without the large wheels. I dont think you will be happy with a Pilot or any basic brands after owning that. You will miss this x7 everyday. You THINK you'll be okay with something basic (even if it's mdx), but a few months in, you will regret it.

I fucking adore my X5 M50i, got one of the last pre-LCI ones from the dealer lot. Traded my G80 M3 for it and never looked back. The G05 platform is amazing in combination with that engine and trans combo.

You really don’t need a 3-row, and you will miss the BMW drivetrain, suspension and iDrive7 system. Get yourself a 2022 or 2023 X5 with the B58 in-line Six. It will give you everything you like in the X7 without all the bells and whistles of your M50. You can get a BMW Certified X5 off lease for less than $65k. I just did and I love it !

I had a Taycan 4S and an X7M50I much like your LC500/X7 Combo, and I wanted to combine THOSE into a single family car and got the Cayenne GTS Coupe. It really is, absolutely, incredibly driving dynamics for a family hauler and GT car. Eats miles like crazy.

Hey host, I have a bmw 340i as my dad vehicle and a Honda Pilot for our family vehicle. Ive been dying to upgrade to an X7. The Pilot handles like a tank, slow, but as you mentioned it pulls off the family duties very well. This video has convinced me that the X7 is not a family vehicle until your kids are 10+
Not the m50i that is, the 40i is. With bench seat.
I’m coming from a Telluride which also drives and handles like a big slow tank. The 40i is the most practical choice for most families with bench as the comment above points out

I also have an M340i as my personal fun toy and a Acura RDX for family use. I did test drive the Pilot and Passport as well as X3 and GLC before getting the RDX. The standard Honda SUVs are exactly like what you described. The X3 I tested was 30i the dynamic is just similar to the RDX. Not sure if a 40i would be much different on the X3. The GLC is very luxurious but lack the dynamic. My biggest complaint on the M340i is actually the lack of ventilated seats, otherwise the perfect sedan I ever owned.

E28 was my dream when I was a kid. I Had all the brochures from BMW and my uncle had a 320i in 1982 which I loved to bits.
My mums got a x7 40i and its the best 7 seater suv for a family huge and yet compact. Crazy features and still learning at 50k kms

I bought an M3 new in the 90's and have owned about 9 more BMWs since then. I was a fanboy of the highest order, but the last two X5s I owned left me stranded on the side of the hwy (one shifter failure and one engine seized). Those problems were fixed under warranty because BMW would rather apologize and beg forgiveness before building something dependable. My local dealer nodded understandingly when I told him a bought a Genesis. Mark's X7 only had small problems so far, but these cars cannot make it through five years of trouble-free ownership. They are gimmicky tech products engineered for the show-room.

@@MH-xu4ez The problem is sitting on the side of a California desert hwy for hours on a 106F afternoon because the V8 engine seized at 80 mph. The problem is a failed door lock system on a F90 M5 that left my friend and his wife standing on the sidewalk in a dangerous neighborhood. The problem is the constant unscheduled warranty service visits to the dealership while you drive an ersatz loaner. I was at the local dealership so much I became good friends with the staff there and got invited over for dinner. BMW has lots of cool owner events and I met a lot of cool people, but it's like an abusive relationship. No more. I'm trying Genesis right now (so far it's been nothing but oil changes in 45k miles). Eventually I will try AMG. My buddy with the M5 moved to Porsche.

@@S8ER Interpret it however you like. I'm more interested in what years he owned the BMW vehicles and which models. Their V8 engines have been notoriously unreliable, but their recent straight six engines have been great. I've owned four BMWs since 2018, all with the B58, and my vehicles have been reliable, albeit expensive to maintain.

I purchased a 2021 X7 M50i 4 weeks ago. Mark encapsulated my entire ownership experience in his review. He touched on my dislikes, disappointments & frustrations as well as what makes it a great vehicle to own. My warranty is up in two years I’m probably going to enjoy this thirsty monster for a year or so then try to find a similar experience at a more reasonable cost of ownership level.
