- It’s hard to think of another motorcycle as revered to a company as the Hayabusa is to Suzuki. Not just to Suzuki, the Hayabusa is one of those all-time bikes, part of an ultra-small selection of two-wheelers to have transcended the industry and captured the wider public’s imagination.
When the Hayabusa shredded onto the scene in 1999, the world was in the grips of the ‘World’s Fastest Motorcycle’ phase. Honda had just stolen the title from Kawasaki with the Super Blackbird, and Suzuki wanted a piece of the action.
Naming the machine the ‘Hayabusa’ was a Suzuki middle finger to their arch-rivals at Honda. The Japanese Hayabusa, otherwise known as the Peregrine Falcon, is capable of speeds up to an astonishing 240 mph and feasts on the Blackbird, so you can imagine how much fun the marketing department had with that one.
Since that much-lauded arrival at the turn of the century, the Hayabusa (formerly known as the GSX1300R Hayabusa), has only had one update before 2022. That came in 2008 with a new 1340cc motor and revamped styling, pushing the Hayabusa back to the forefront of speed freaks’ minds the world over.
But times have changed in the intervening years. The world has largely moved on from top speed accolades with much of the industry’s attention diverted to more sustainable, smaller capacity machines. So has Suzuki released a machine worthy of the legend, or is this a case of dad just trying to be cool with the young set?

I have the 2022 busa I'm 52 yrs old ex sports bike rider, 5 foot 6 70 kg I'm a daily rider and weekends i take the missis around the twistis and long haul . That's what the bike is for simply brilliant busa legend got better. To answer how will buy it ,older people like me how want liter bike performance but more comfortable for 2up and long haul . I love my busa simply brilliant . PS I can fat foot it to lol

Its a big machine although when your riding it you hardly notice.

The ‘busa seems to be in a class of it’s own. I wanted a sports tourer. I looked at BMW and even Goldwing - to big, too heavy for my 150lb frame. I did not want a full sports bike like the GSXR or CBR-RR. The ‘busa seemed to be the perfect fit. I use to fear it, but not with the electronics, I feel it will be a great bike for me. Can’t wait for mine to arrive!

I have a zx14r and I love this new Hayabusa but I hear a lot that people want to buy these big sport bikes but they are scared of them like it's instant death the moment you take off on them I think if people would actually ride them they would see just how comfortable and capable they are and if you ride them with a little common sense you got nothing to worry about
Almost too easy to ride, then the corners come and the brakes become the best friend you ever had 😂

Been a busa rider/racer/owner since 2002, and the ONLY thing I find negating about the gen 3 is that the solo seat cowl is labeled as an "accessory" and must be purchased separately, when the previous models came standard with them. C'mon suzuki, for 20k, you can afford to toss in a 200 dollar solo cowl 😒

I've had a few zzr14s i now want that busa, the perfect evolution of an icon
I have had 5 Hayabusa's and now own a brand new ZZR1400. The Kawasaki makes the old Hayabusa feel agricultural. The ZZR has a far better fit and finish, and is more comfortable to ride and handles better. Having said that I much prefer the looks of the old Busa.

I have a 2007 model and it is hand down the best bike I've even owned And definately the smoothest engine i was too scared to own one for years but now I do I wish I'd bought it years ago, its immense. I ride it in full power mode all the time and it's just great to ride with really good handling on motorways and long sweepers. If Im ever rich enough to have a dream garage this will definately stay in it.

Kawasaki: Ride the reality.....ZZR1400: Busa Killer
A little late to the party, but I can tell you why I'm buying one. It's literally the ultimate sporty leaning sport touring bike. I don't do track days anymore, but I do a lot of riding on windy backroads and ripping around to cool scenery. I toured on 1st and 2nd gen Hayabusas for a long time, and I've also owned FJR's, VFR's, and all sorts of supersports. The Hayabusa was always the perfect mix of very sporty, but still long ride capable. I get on a supersport now, and I'm in pain after an hour or so. I currently have a Yamaha FJ-09, and while fantastic, its definitely more touring. With the Hayabusa now having factory cruise, I can have a bit of old school feel, and an epic mile muncher with good capability on twisty roads. Plus, that engine is just so understressed. Leave it in 6th, and just roll on the throttle when you need to pass someone.
Good to see an Australian rider giving his ideas. Your spot on about the suspension the conventional suspension is adequate and probably better suited then the electronic way. The thing you don’t know when you talk about who will buy and what market they’re looking at. This is the answer.....
Firstly for the mature experienced riders that have been there done that appreciate the mighty power in comfort with a super stable platform. And now the BIG reason why....there is no other bike that suits having a pillion to share the sport style riding experience you talk about. Yes there are tourers that take pillions and yes you can be perched up high on a full blown sport-bike, but there is no bike capable of the speed, comfort and handling capability of 300 kph speed that you can absolutely share with a pillion. That’s what you need to understand with the Busa. Or you can ride it alone or even take it to the shops. After riding for a couple hours you get off feeling pretty good. This is a road bike. Do not compare it to Gixxers ( they are track bikes) After getting off a sportbike after couple hours how do you feel? I rest my case.
For what you ask ..... steel brake lines, self cancelling blinkers what a load of BS who needs that crap anyway on a road bike? You can easily attach the brake lines but as a road bike do you really need them? No absolutely not.
The trouble with reviewers is that you have the bike for a few hours and think that that’s enough to make judgement and start to look for inadequacies.....
There is so much more after owning, riding and maintaining a Hayabusa for years and years and doing lots and lots mileage. They are bulletproof, reliable, easy to maintain and the stability they offer in any sort of riding is without question one best out there. I am not a fan of all the BS electronics save the cruise control and perhaps the quick shifter. All the other stuff is unnecessary and available probably more for the needy modern day rider that thinks that it makes them a better rider.
I think your review is ok, although you did miss the point of what these bikes are for - unfortunately. You would think Suzuki would bring you up to speed with who they targeted in the marketplace or talking to actual owners like myself. Thanks anyway for the review you did certainly touch on some of its merits as a performance motorcycle

The Hayabusa is an interesting choice in 2021. As an aging sports bike rider who loves torque laden power delivery and increasingly appreciates comfort, I did check out the Hayabusa and ZX-14R when I was buying my last bike. Ultimately I went with the Super Duke though, because I spend a lot more time riding through the hills than on the freeway or dragstrip. I figure that's the market they are targeting, and now that the ZX-14R is gone the Hayabusa's one of a kind. The closest comparison I can think of would be the H2 SX and Z H2, but the SX is more of a tourer and the Z is a naked (although cheaper here in Oz).
I reckon the Super Duke was a good choice, Joric.

I’ve had a Gxsr 600R for 3 years and a Gxsr750R for about 5 years now, this looks nice. Too bad 2 months ago I got rid of my baby and went with a M109R cruiser. The memories. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful looking bike. Really enjoyed the commentating and way the host analyzed this video. He takes time at the end to review and who this bike is for. That piece I enjoyed. Overall, great quality video and host is educated and a motorcycle hardcore.
If you’re young and you’re a nutter, get a GSXR1000 if you’re older and think you’re a nutter, do it in comfort and get the Busa!

I fall into the later, having owned bikes of various sizes for over 45+ years my last bike was a 2001 unrestricted Busa, that thing was an exercise in restraint!
Or on a 21 ZX 14r, like I did. Wow, I must be a nutter!
The 2nd Generation bike has the best fuel injection fueling, and ignition timing, of any motorcycle. The fueling is so precise, that you cannot make it jerk or buck, or twitch, or sputter, or snatch, even if you roll into the throttle in a corner, or going downhill.
The power comes on like a tractor at 2700 rpms, and pulls hard at 3500 rpm, and pulls scary at 5000 rpms, and pulls SUPER scary at 8000 rpms, and keeps pulling hard to the rev limiter, and never once feels like the cylinder head has run out of airflow. The engine pulls harder and harder, the higher you rev it. It's "peaky" and yet "tractor-like." This is a paradox. Engines with immense low end torque, usually don't pull harder the higher you rev them, straight beyond 10,000 rpms.
The Hayabusa engine torque is so ridiculous, you can't put it into words. It's a feat of engineering, because it does't have variable valve timing. To create so much low end torque, even more than than the bigger ZX-14 Kawasaki, without variable valve timing, and to also have the extreme high RPM performance, is really unreal.
Now, onto the 3rd Gen bike. If it truly does have MORE torque through the entire mid RPM range, then it's going to be terrifying, vicious, and amazing.
There is no replacement for Hayabusa torque.
Back in the day I delivered a brand new busa to a football player in Indianapolis from northern KY. 2 hour ride and it felt pretty good. Very flat power curve. Once traffic got heavy in Indianapolis she started overheating. Had to break a few rules more than once to cool her down.
@@unclealzbbq2185 well I had never ridden one so offered to ride it to him. Actually kinda good that I was on it during that point of break in being this guy had absolutely no knowledge of mechanics. I’m sure he would have over heated it. Soon as I seen the temp go up I took off down the emergency lane to keep it in check. This football player had bought a Gsxr 750 off of my partner then got it home and called us back saying he thought it was a 1000 when it was even listed as a Gsxr 750. Once he realized he had bought a 750 he asked us if we would pick up and deliver the hayabusa to him. So this guy bought 2 bikes in one day. lol didn’t even ask us to take the 750 back, he owned his mistake and moved on. This was the original model new first year busa which some claim was the fastest
Terrific review but a small correction for you. The steering angle is actually sharper. Going from 23.4° to just 23°. The gen 1 was 24°. Hard to fault your video otherwise. I've had 99, 08 & now Gen3 on it's way. 👌

i have a 2004 model derestricted and changed the gearing as i found it undergeared used to do 95mph in first gear but now does 120 mph 18/36 fabulous bike i love it

I have the 1999 Silver/Copper which was unbridled power and speed with simplicity.The new one looks the part but all those wiz bang new electronics and numerous setting make it unnecessarily complex and more dealership reliant when those electronics give problems..
Once you set it up to your liking you never have to change the settings again. If you get caught in the rain, then switch to factory C mode and get home safely. FJB 🖕🇨🇳
People are acting like the Hayabusa's loss of power , down to 187HP ( at the crank) isn't a huge loss. It's a lot more than you think considering that a ZX14R is 207-208HP at the crank and about 190 at the rear wheel. This would put the Busa at about 170 at the rear wheel. That's a lot of horsepower and torque to make up with an ecu flash and an exhaust. On top of that I like leaving my bikes bone stock like the factory and engineers meant for it to be. They last forever if left stock. You have 0 little annoying screw ups and 100% reliability. I must, however, say that I'm crazy about the new Hayabusa's looks. It's a beautiful bike. I fear all the new fangled unnecessary electronics. Who uses lean angles? Or brake pressure gauges? When this stuff fails , it will be expensive.
I couldn't have put it better myself, and this is exactly why I won't be trading my 2021 final edition ZZR1400 for one.
7hp is not a major difference. That kind of talk is childish and tells me you're limited in experience.
A better rider will more than make up for that. Nobody is launching a stock bike in that powerband and motogp racers rarely if ever get over 186mph.
Paper hp chasers are immature for the most part.
Interestingly it seems that Suzuki underrated them. There's some reputable dyno videos showing 185+ at the wheel on the new bike with just an exhaust and of course no tune as the ECU is not cracked yet. So the difference is really not so big between the 2 bikes.

They need factory turbo or supercharger and adjustable suspension with launch control like moto GP. I could see easily 300HP easy and still meet emissions.

Years ago I beat every GS 1000 with my Honda CBX 1000! 😎 Now 43 years later I would like to walk over to the Hayabusa 21 and feel it flutter on my cadence... It has been ordered before July, it will be a white, so white as my face when HE flies with me... You can count on that!

At 11:35 Yes, the GSX-R1000 K1 came out in 2001 after the Gen. 1 GSX-1300R Hayabusa debuted in 1999.

Thanks, Paul. Actually, no. It was surprisingly good in that area, and I rode it in tight canyons with not much wind/airflow to get rid of the heat, so it was pretty good, all things considered.
I've done over 200,000 klm touring on Busas in Australia. Comfort and heat have never been an issue for me at 5'7".
Busa is the true God of speed.

Very good points, this bike does hail back to the past more than look toward the future. And it can be a platform for just such a machine. This iteration may not perform well at retail. That being said, get it out on the open road and you understand what it is designed to do!

I’ve had both and the Busa will blow the Rocket away. The Rocket has a speed limiter at 152-mph and 30-BHP less.

Does the bike remember and stay in the last riding mode settings after shutdown and then restarting it?
Or do you have to reset all the parameters back to what you want each time you start the bike?
It has three factory modes A-B-C that return to the factory settings when you turn the bike off. It has 3 user modes that will remain as you program them. You have plenty of options and never have to change it once you decide what you want.
Got mine ordered. Can't wait. Kinda second guessing my color choice though

@@rj9617 i went with the white/blue. I think it looks the best with that chrome strip it kinda blends in. I dont like chrome on my motorcycles. Ill probably rip it off and wrap it or paint it or something. Cant wait to see them in person.

Wasn't the old hayabusa meant for those that want to tour on a sport bike, but the liter bikes are too uncomfortable?
When i see hayabusa, i see 2 things:
1) drag bike
2) highway bike
3) Old Dudes SRAD
All sports bikes have the same downside to them, they kill your wrists after 90mins or so👎

The Gen 1 Hayabusa is the lightest of the three models ! That is the sportiest proof.

😉Gen 2: 266 kg (equipment weight) / 197 hp
☺Gen 3: 264 kg (equipment weight) / 188 hp
When you replace the full exhaust with those giant cans and the cats, you’ll lose another 30-lbs.
I lost my license riding down to Phillip Island on the Rapid Bikes long-term one, so I have a love/hate relationship with the Busa. Still, I think Suzuki could of gone a lot further with this new bike, but I'll wait to give my verdict and hopefully get a ride soon...

same engine, euro 5, and a lot of rider aids. I don't see the point in going with the Gen3 Busa. Seems like you can have everything and more with the H2 and still spend less (although I'd prefer the ZH2)

1.) How is the engine vibration at 4500 rpms, between 70 and 90 mph? Is it totally gone? Some of the 1st Gen bikes, and some 2nd Gen bikes that are lemons, seem to have a lot of engine vibes around 4500 rpms.
The 3rd Gen Hayabusa sounds totally different, with a much louder turbine sound to the engine, and it would be interesting to know if it's smoother?

Target audience - I think sports bike riders who are after something a bit more comfortable, something they can put a lot of km's on - do a day of riding more comfortably, or even a weekend of touring.
They don't even try to make the stock exhaust look good lol.

Having owned both Gen 1&2 and enjoyed them I’m not sure what to think about this Gen3. Like the looks, not so keen on all the unnecessary adjustability (10 level traction control?). The world is different to 20 years ago and many many bikes out perform it now so not sure.....
10-stage is a little too much, to be honest.
Like suspension, having good adjustment gives very personal satisfaction and rideability.
I got one.waiting on battery and check charge syst. In az.they don't know when they can find batt.down a wk now.seat staples coming out.someone knocked over - can't get those parts...aside from the bs...it is a wonderful bike.but its at the shop.no end in sight.insur parts waiting weeks,don't know how long been waiting
first thing to do with this off the show room floor is immediately strip off all the emissions crap and retune the bike to bring it up closer to that 200hp benchmark. fuck the environment i want my smiles per gallon.

Emissions in California is a wasted joke. Simply because China/Asia is blowing all their shit right toward you. At least over here/Texas-Illinois you can purchase a de-smog kit for my Honda Valkyrie Interstate. And yes I did ride a 2007 Busa at 185 mph and I loved it.

You will like it only if you are used to sport bike riding ergos ( more comfortable than the traditional sport bike)
The better version Suzuki could have made would have been to make this on a 1440cc.

Don't be put off by the numbers, they most likely left the back door unlocked with a simple exhaust/intake/flash combo. Off the lot numbers are always skewed.

Super bike.
Great bike but honestly not as comfortable as one thinks and I think one is better served to consider a H2 SX SE series bikeif you are going to sport tour, way better handling and equally as fast and just more modern. The host nailed it at the end of the video , Suzuki should have taken the time to produce something newer vs revamp the tried and true in new body work and electronics
Also the H2 SX SE is $10k more. 💸💸💸

Buy a Kawasaki ZZR1400. Cheaper (by THOUSANDS) better bike, faster, better made, handles better, more reliable, less stressed, newer engine, cheaper to insure, less likely to be pinched, less common.

i almost got killed on my Gen 3 Busa because the turn indicator did not self cancel. A car pulled out infront of me thinking i was turning 🤣😂😅😆😁😊

If you’re strictly a street rider how often is the difference in hp going to come into play(14 vs busa)? If you meet a seriously set up busa on the track (drag) where’s the advantage then? Unless there’s an ungodly hp advantage I see no advantage if the rider is better on a stock 2022 busa…lol.

I think you have fallen into the trap of comparing this machine with bikes it is not designed to compete with.
It will be bought by people who no longer want to perch, crippled over a tank of a tiny bike, stopping every hour to unlock their backs and stretch their legs. It will be bought by people who want to tour, yet want excitement and handling not available on big fat cumbersome GoldWings or BMW GS's. It will be bought by mature riders who want quality and stability not JUST rocket ship speed and handling. It will be bought by people who almost certainly previously owned a super-sports bike. It will be bought by people who have been around the block in the motorcycling world and have finally realised this bike is so incredibly unique, so stable, so easy to tour on, so comfortable to ride, that while it is not top of any 'top trumps' list it is the complete package.

You’re exactly right! You should have done the review. I bet Suzuki sells a ton of these bikes. I’m 69 and it’s the best bike that I’ve ever owned including my 1985 V-max. FJB 🖕🇨🇳
@@barackblows1942 Thanks for the nice comment. Since my original post I have put my money where my mouth is and bought myself a Gen3, brand new. It is my 6th Hayabusa, and by far the best of the lot.

Been riding since I was 12. Haven’t owned a bike in ten years. I’m now 40 and 300lbs and 6’2. Can I blast in the night on this to get the hate out? Please help if you know this bike in and out. Just like am I to fat for a bike now mood. If not buying one tomorrow as my midlife crisis relief

Between the election infection, the mask's thing, the power grab by politicians, and the election itself our country has fallen so far in such a short time. I'm ALMOST 50yrs old and disabled since sep.03 from a work injury. I had to give up living in the country 4 year's ago and buy a place in town. With my wife being disabled with 9 blown disk's in her neck and spine, she couldn't work anymore after 2009ish our income shrank and now we are stuck on the gov't teet. My plan was to buy a big chunk of land build cabins for my wife and I then a cabin for each child. We had chickens and a big garden, wanted some cow's and goat's but all the dream's died when I got hurt. This bike has no better performance than early 20s Hayabusa. If you never driven one, then get this.
The 14 is still a better bike , gen 3 busa is smothered with euro 5 , gotta take the 25 pound cats of and reflash . The brakes are probably still like squeezing to pieces of wood together ....the snake is closed
The brakes on the Gen 3 are excellent as is everything else. FJB 🖕🇨🇳
