Why you'll fail to get your dream job after engineering/the MBA | Ankit Srivastava | TEDxCVS

  • Ankit Srivastava is a Digital Growth Strategist, an Author and an Educational Activist that strongly identifies the flaws in the Asian education system which tends to reward test scores as compared to pragmatic aptitude. He believes in the concept of open learning mechanisms that facilitates the probationers to acquire skills/knowledge based on their predilections.
He promotes and campaigns for unconventional career choices. Ankit is also a Gen Z, Gen Y campaigner and has been deeply involved in understanding the challenges they face and their psychology towards making decisions.
Ankit Srivastava asked the crowd a simple question which was followed by a stunned silence. He raised certain questions which, on their faces, had plain, one line answers but through introspection, it was found that it required deep thought. 'Why?' was not the question. 'Why not?' was. Mr. Srivastava pointed out how a question with a negative ended up surging a spark if positivity and brilliance among people along with conservation of time and energy. The determination to choose the road less travelled stood out and shone in plain sight. Ankit Srivastava founded 'The Urban Llama’ in 2016 with the vision to make unconventional wisdom conventional, an organisation which was later absorbed by Knowledge Woods Consulting, a training company where he works with the industry leaders to build a flexible learning platform. Being an educational activist, Mr. Srivastava has recognised the flaws in the educational system often giving an exceedingly large weightage to test scores rather than pragmatic attitude.
He is also an authour presently working on two books, a social media influencer, an event manager and a public speaker. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Disappointed - yes. How about finishing in the top quarter of my class at a top South African university / having lecturers throughout the engineering degree say how well I will do in industry because of my skills/ attitude and insight.
Then seeing everybody in the class get multiple job offers (even the students who I helped and tutored to pass).
It took me 2 years and +800 applications to get my first interview. People who know me are baffled that I have so many skills and yet cannot get a proper job.
20 years later the latest job offer is as a cleaner in a hospital.

      But what we do ?
We see this videos and we tell to this teachings that my life has my own teaching ( Problem is people are waiting for God to made their life full of teaching wow -) hurrah !!
In fact god is great , he is already giving teachings by making us watch this videos ,
But nah we mostly closed our eyes when teaching come to us , and than keep saying life teaches in it's own way !! Bro if you believe it than why you watch this videos , you don't need it if you believe it for sure !!
Jack ma and bill gate etc.. didn't had this videos in their time , but they read lot of books and they learn from it , in fact they teach their own-selves and took initiatives , they didn't waited for life to make teaching for them .
And those successful people are still reading bunch of books , they're teaching themselves too , after becoming so successful also they're not making such thoughts like my life will teach me in it's own way !! 🙌🙌
By the way it's individuals thinking for their own life , but atleast this is all what i believe ( sorry if it hurts ! )
I don't know bruh but successful people are not waiting( and didn't waited in their past ) for their life to teach themselves otherwise why they should read a book also,at the end it's other persons thought and teachings what's written in the book !

I don't think this is happening in other countries.

He stated that right from his childhood, he wanted to join the infantry in Army, But Military Secretary branch said to him that he had a tech background, so they put him in EME. For the first two years, he was doing his tenure with Gorkha regiment. When his tenure was about to be finished, he undertook a counter insurgency op and everyone under his command, told him that he was a gorkha due to his bravery. At that very point, he decided that he will be in Infantry only. He struggled for many years and then Army permanently shifted him to Infantry.

I took up engineering bcz of my family pressure. My father forced me to do engineering by seeing the neighbour guys doing. I had chemical engineering. Our college didn't gave any placement in core sector . So I had to try from outside. All companies are looking for either reference, experience or Mtech. As I was fresher I had none of these. I was selected in the technical interview but in HR interview they are asking for references which I don't have. There after I applied for PSUs. There also they are saying that why are you not doing Mtech. I said about my financial prblm but they are not listening to it. So in PSUs even after qualifying I was not selected in the final interview. Engineering had made my life miserable and lead me to much depression. That time I thought that Engineering is not for me. Then I tried for general stream job and got selected in it. But that past engineering life strikes my mind everyday and make me fall into depression

This is truly motivating , especially the end of the talk where he says, "do u know what else is constant? The lifeline of a dead man..".that really struck hard ! It also really reflects about life , of it's ups and downs and how we must live life as it is , doing what we want and love to do !

Prerana Bhavan Thank you, the only point of taking such an extreme example such as that of death is to emphasize on the universal truth of mortality. We often forget that there is limited time after all!

That's a lot how I feel- I'm interested in engineering and marine biology and genetics and architecture and design and entrepreneurship and creative writing but I don't want to get rid of any of those passions to pursue just one and come out good at it

    • @offside7803
      @offside7803 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Joe Pius the only way is to experiment and try out different things. There’s a thin line between passion and interests. Interest will fade away eventually or might bore you. Passion will just increase your hunger of getting better at that field. Period

Why the safe is inmportant? Let's look at Japan, my countly. The population is decreasing, growth rate stopped and half of the people is above 50 age. What's mean is this? It's mean the young people already can't save their own parents, because so much money is needed for Medical care and their life. You probably think this is weird, however, It's getting the standard in japan now. Not the past, It's a future. How can you try something challenges? Scrapping the safety is the only way at the growth ela, Do not try It at the end of the life.
