- Today, I review and take a look at the Deluxe Editions of one of my favorite manga of all-time, Berserk by Kentaro Miura! During the flip through of Volume 1, I'll talk about their pros and cons and what makes these editions different from the Berserk individual volumes.
Also, I forgot to mention this in the video but the Berserk Deluxe Editions come with attached ribbon bookmarks and they have a cover art gallery at the end.
Dark Horse have also released Deluxe Editions of Hellsing and Blade of the Immortal. I have reviews of both coming soon, so stay tuned!

Kentaro Miura is one of the best manga artists and creators I've ever seen. I will forever be grateful to him for the work he brought us and for bringing my favorite manga onto page and into the world. May he RIP and my condolences go out to his family and friends.
Where did you get your bookshelves if I may ask?
I've just finished the '97 anime. I'm absolutely gobsmacked. Had no idea the reach of this franchise had! The books are now on my xmas wish list. Great video, more and more people are discovering his work everyday. Extremely underrated!

These hardcovers look amazing. Definitely feel the most premium out of all the manga I have. Great review and can't wait for that statue unboxing of Guts.

i got my copy of the deluxe edition yesterday and absolutely loved it. i noticed that at the end, the page of Miura Sensei's bio had some marks and patches and thought at first mine is a faulty copy. after seeing your video, i was reassured that its meant to be like that. However, i also noticed that at the end, there is an extra line in the newer copy that has information about Miura Sensei's death and it just broke my heart a little bit. Rest in Peace. Forever remembered❤

volume 8 has in addition to the usual cover arts also about 6 extra colored artworks that just look beautiful. If they keep it up like that, we might get ALL of the colored illustrations of berserk within the deluxe volumes
Love the addition of the full-color illustrations in volume 8 and volume 9 came with some too. They're beautiful and I hope that we get all of them in the coming volumes as well!
So glad i stumbled onto this video. I have begun collecting the deluxe versions and i am a first timer when it comes to the manga so im very excited. Shout out to all the Berserk fans, whether you started later or earlier through the anime like i did, it feels good to be part of this community of die hards 🙌🏽

Love these editions as Well. I recently 3D printer some bookends which make them look even better on the shelf. I am picking these up as they release but I’m waiting to read them until they are caught up with the singles. I want to save this series for later in my manga reading journey.
Man really, that's cool; I'm going to check out that video! I feel you on waiting though. It's difficult to get to the end of a volume and you are so anxious to see what happens next, but you have to wait months for the next deluxe if you don't own the individual volumes. You'll have to let me know what you think when you read it!
Great review, I just got into *Berserk* recently & I’m nearly finished the 7th deluxe edition now, this is probably the best story I’ve ever read. I’ll have to buy the digital copies now because I can’t wait over 2 years to finish the story, but I also can’t wait to have all the deluxe editions on my shelf, I absolutely love these books.

This is an excellent review for the hardcover edition. There isn't enough content for Berserk IMO and this small bit was well contributed
I’m about to buy volume 1 deluxe for my 13 hour flight to Rome next week. It’s my first flight and I doubt I’ll be reading the whole way but I needed something to lose myself in, maybe get a little tired reading it and catch some shut eye. This story sounds immersive and I can’t wait. Thank you for showcasing all the details - LOVE the translated sound effects that’s a win
It is worth mentioning that the last released volume was 2 years ago although there are rumors that Volume 41 is coming soon so there is really no reason to rush with the story and enjoy these oversized beautiful drawn pages.
Good hearing that volume 41 is possibly on the way soon! I agree. I think the Deluxe Editions are well worth the wait with how incredible the art and panels look in them.
Thank you for the video I was thinking about getting to reading the berserk manga soon and was stuck on choosing between the deluxe or the regular paperback.Hearing that the deluxe is only at vol 18 is a bummer cause I would like to catch up to where the manga is at currently but the deluxe does catch my eye to how clear and good the pages look plus with it being hardcover is something that I would consider more
Hey, of course! The Deluxe Editions are definitely worth the wait with how incredibly made they are and how good the pages look as you mentioned but can't go wrong with the individual volumes either if you are looking to read Berserk asap! Berserk is one of the series that I didn't want to put down, so I know how hard it would be to to wait to read the rest of the series with the Deluxe Editions when you get to the end and want to keep going!

Did you have any trouble removing the stickers on the front and back? Do they leave residue behind?

@@oldmanscoffe3851 it's really hard to say as the 1997 anime was all over the place and mostly covered the golden age arc. This deluxe vol 1 will cover the original volumes 1-3 which is from what i know the black swordsman arc which was barely touched on in the 1997 anime adaptation.

I just put an order for the first 5 deluxe books and as a first time reader (watched/love the og anime) i cannot wait to experience what has passed and what is to come post Eclipse.
is the page quality the same as the volumes? i love the gritty roughness of the pages on the volumes.

Same here! Super high quality and couldn't be happier that they gave Berserk the Deluxe Edition treatment. A lot I can't wait to see Deluxe Editions of but Berserk was the series I wanted most as well!

I just got deluxe as a bday gift (I thought I would never get it bc it's way too expensive) and I'm dying of excitement!! I've always wanted to read it so now I'm gonna wait 4 days and finally open it for the first time!!!!

But why does the Deluxe Edition start with the first Season and not with the first three films ? Would be nice if anyone could explain it
They have premium details but my volume 2 has an error in the cover symbol, it is not fully visible. It's fine, but since it's the most appreciable thing, it's a bit sad. I hope that in the following volumes that I know the same thing does not happen to me

I just ordered the first 10 volumes of this from Amazon. Ive been living somewhere where I didn't have access to shipping, or a store anywhere near me that has the Manga so I've been diving into all of the anime. Fell in love with the series, and even if it's blasphemy, I loved the newer ones too! I know everyone says how much better the manga is so even though I've never been into manga, I'm gonna start with Berserk!

Hey, thanks so much and of course!! The Deluxe Editions are a larger and hardcover format release of the individual volumes so you won't miss out on anything if you pick them up! You'll get the same story, so it just depends on what format you'd prefer to read the series in! Awesome that you are new to the series. You are in for a treat!
I don't know if this changed recently, but the sound effects are definitely translated in the individual books

I've never read or watched anything related to Berserk ever in my life, but this deluxe edition and your enthusiasm fascinated me. I'm planning to watch the '97 anime + movies trilogy, then proceed with the manga where the last trilogy left off. Am I going in correct direction?
Hey! That's awesome to hear that you are getting Berserk and you are in for an incredible journey! I always recommend reading the manga first just because the movies in particular leave out some context and cut some character development and moments that really connect you with the characters, so I wouldn't skip through in the manga if you plan on watching the anime first. The anime also doesn't compare to how amazing Kentaro Miura's art is, so you'll miss out on some incredible panels as well. I do recommend reading first, but if you are want to watch the anime before reading, I would recommend watching the '97 first, then read Berserk, then watch the movies. Hope that helps and enjoy! 😄
Definitely read the manga. Every panel is a delight to behold.
Not sure if this is the proper term for it, but in comics world we call that center area the "gutter" and refer to the lost wording as "gutter loss" as larger western comics tend to have glued binding which makes it difficult to read that Center which can lose valuable double spread art.
I love these editions. I only have up to the 5th one though. But these are beautiful books.
In all honesty, I'm not quite sure the proper term for it either but that is interesting to know and hear what its called in the comic book community! I collect mostly manga and the larger collector's editions, like the Attack on Titan Colossal Editions, which are glued as well have the same issues. Always happy to see when editions like the Deluxe Editions are released and the binding is done well. And I agree with you there, these are beautiful!

It sucks that ive gotta wait till November for the 12th edition and March next year for the 13th.
For the people who already know the story and buy the deluxe edition, check the book for vague pages. My 10th edition had like 20 pages where the ink faded away slightly but noticable. My 3th edition also had red ink problems on the cover.
Ive worked at a printing company and these problems are pretty common. Yet with these masterpieces its sad to discover later on in your book that pages are faded...
I've been into Berserk since the 2016 Golden Age Arc films. I wanted to get into the series because of my love of FromSoftware games. Since then, I've been slowly making my further further into this series. This video just convinced me to finally buy the manga!

I've never really been into anime (I've maybe watched 4 or 5 short series over the past 20 years), but I recently watched Berserk because they just released the 1997 series on blu-ray and I've always heard how great it was. I liked it enough that I ordered the first deluxe edition of the manga. This will be my very first manga.

So These are darkhorse releases? Are they censored? Back in the day there was darkhorse release of Ghost in the shell and it had few pages censored..

What is the story actually about?
I want to read berserk but I want to know a bit of the story; like if it had a blurb for volume 1, what would it be?
Dive right into it blindly, it Is a story about struggle, agony, friendship, joy, pain, fortune, and misfortune.
Never read any manga before. Stumbled across Vol 1 (deluxe edition) today in brand new condition for $15. Guess I'm collecting the entire series now 🙂
How did you remove the parental advisory stickers without damaging the books?
Hey! I carefully peeled up the edge and slowly pulled it off, so it didn't leave any residue behind. The stickers on mine were really easy to get off though!
@@AnimeCollective Thank you! I tried but ended up leaving a little still. For anyone else looking for a solution, What i ended up doing was using a qtip with a tiny bit of alcohol and rubbed it on the edges to roll it up. Then i used some scotch tape to pull off the rolled up edge. Dont use too much alcohol though. It might discolor the cover a little bit
