Vagabond Vizbigs Review With Inside Look of Vol 1

- Hey guys! In this week's video, I'm reviewing the Vizbig editions of one of my favorite manga, Vagabond by Takehiko Inoue. During the flip-through I talk about my overall thoughts on the Vagabond Vizbigs and what makes them different from the individual volumes.
A few of the volumes used to be hard to find, like Volume 7, but if you are still in search of them Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and Right Stuf recently restocked some of the volumes!

Viz does a great job re-releasing older series in the 3-in-1 form.

When I started getting into Vagabond, I read the version that was printed into comic book format. Sadly viz stopped around issue 16, however it gets you up to the first 6 volumes of the series. My only real issue with the Vizbigs are the cover designs.
I wasn't aware there was a comic book format, but that's awesome that they released those even though they didn't continue with them. And ah yeah, the covers of the vizbigs are are different for sure so I see why some wouldn't like them. The colors are nice but I like the individual volume covers too!
Miyamoto Musashi the real ronin killed a man with a wooden oar and won multiple duels. He wrote the book of the five rings a book on combat. We used it in MMA for fighting stances.

New to comics and manga just a beautiful world I had somehow over looked. I also started to watch my first anime. When you appreciate the depth of these stories and the art it is simply incredible!!! I’m watching Blue eye samurai it is really great!!! I am new to your channel love reviews and even readings of these stories. ❤
Only volume One has the issue with the pages falling out. I've had 3 copies of it and the first 2 fell out. It seems it had a new print revision because now it's on par with the rest of the series and the pages don't fall out even after several rereads. So all the books should be good to collect now
I’ve collected these vizbigs and aside from the spine I really don’t think they do justice to vagabond. It deserves a deluxe like berserk!
Great review! We haven’t had an issue with the pages either. Love vagabond, we are just missing omnibus volume 12 and volume 37.

Just yesterday I got from mail the final missing volume (I do have all 12 of them now!), after waiting for more than a year for my local comic shop to have them available (I wanted to support their job!)... Now at last I can read it! (holding them in my hands!)... Take care...

i finally managed to buy volume 2 that for some reason's been out of stock for almost a year. it's a shame i had to wait this long before being able to read the rest of the volumes i bought (and let's just ignore the crazy prices some volumes reached). i didn't want to read this story online cause i really regret not reading Berserk on paper the first time, but damn they make it so hard to do the right thing.
it's a wonderful edition tho: the pages are thick, the paper's clear and it's cheap compared to the individual volumes (of course when the volumes used to be in stock) .
Also i didn't have any issue with the pages even if i tried to split the volume in half while reading. don't know how people managed to tear it apart.
Some of these volumes have definitely been out of stock for what feels like forever. The supply chain issues and what not have really been making it difficult to complete series. Seems like they are starting to get some stock back in though and hope things are starting to pick back up! But I feel you with waiting to read them. There are a lot of series that I'm missing like one or two volumes and I get a bit impatient haha
And agreed! They are great editions. I'm not sure either. Seems like some people just got unlucky with some bad or defective volumes. I've had that happen before with some glued binding manga, like Neon Genesis Evangelion, but not the Vagabond volumes.

I have been looking to buy the second cuz big volume but it’s a minimum of $100 right now, it really sucks because I really enjoyed the first one, if you were able to guess when do you think the prices on the second viz big volume will go down

not sure why viz is allergic to making their 3 in 1 hardcovers. they would be so much better if they were and it would easily be worth the higher price just like the berserk deluxe editions

They really are! I remember opening them up for the first time and being amazed by the level of detail he adds to his art and it's every where you look, but man how he draws his characters.. He really knows how to convey their feelings and expressions. Awesome to hear that you are going to pick it up and hope you enjoy the series! Highly recommend Real by him as well if you haven't checked it out yet!

Of course and ah yeah! Vagabond's one that's stock has been flickering quite a bit. I was waiting on vol 7 for months and that one finally just restocked, so hopefully that's a good sign!

Man the manga is gonna be on a hiatus for 9 years on may, I doubt it will come back, Inoue is nearing 60 already.
Atleast that's gonna save me lots of money, as I don't wanna buy stories that have been "paused" e.g. Song of Ice & Fire, Berserk (although it got a few issues after the death) or Wall Man
You’re losing out big time honestly. Even though the story doesnt have a definitive end, the last chapter still feels pretty conclusive to me. Musashi already underwent his major character development arc and you know where the characters will end up.
Inoue is so dope, Slam Dunk is my number 1 Manga xD

The Vizbigs are really neat but I really wish we could get a hardcover edition in the same size as Berserk. I would buy them in a heartbeat and because you never now what might happen, I've been holding out on buying these Vizbigs as of now... maybe I'm just delusional but I kinda wanna wait for a big hardcover release.

Great review, I’m one of those whose pages have started to fall, and I do take extreme care on handling while reading, shame, and I agree! This masterpiece deserves a hardcover and better binding as berserk
Kind of late to the game, just discovering this anime and have read it's been on hiatus since 2015. Does it have a proper/satisfying ending so far? I don't really want to get emotionally invested in a possible forever cliff hanger lol

ive just bought volume 1 thanks to this review..and the art my god..so far the story is pretty good. wished the mangaka would continue. oh well i'll just read till whats published and keep the volumes for the future generations. 😅
I love the format as it showcases the art, but I had quality issues with several volumes. Pages fell out of a few volumes which is unfortunate.
Man, I've heard of some people getting unlucky with the volumes and sorry to hear that you had some issues. Hope Vagabond gets a sewn binding hardcover release someday but I agree that the Vizbigs showcase the art well!

Finally getting around Vagabond. It's pretty durable and i love the contrast, pages are pretty intact as you get mid way. Good story and plot line 😃 yes i do agree, it should be fun in deluxe edition.

I've only seen certain panels and art kinda reminds me of berserk. Heard good things about the series. Definitely considering on getting this series.
Very similar to Berserk in the art department, so I agree with you there! Realistic and super detailed. MC's are similar as well in terms of their personality and what drives them. Hope you enjoy if you decide to pick it up!

Of course!! I have a lot more videos like these coming, especially for special edition or collector's edition releases, but it's always nice to see the quality before you buy them!

Well well well. I am here because I finished Berserk have just picked up the first two of these books.
Loved this series one of my favorites unfortunately I was one of the unlucky ones when it came to the pages they did fall out 😔 but it was just vol. 1 never happened again with the other 11 but I was more careful handling those still would highly recommend
Ah man, I'm sorry to hear that. I had that happen to me with the Evangelion 3-in-1's first volume as well while reading and I handled the rest of them like they were fragile, so I know how you feel. Happy to hear the rest of them are holding up though!

I’ve been eyeing these vizbigs for a little while cause I’ve almost finished collecting the Berserk deluxe editions and I realized how nice it is to see the artwork in a larger format (the 2 page spreads in the Berserk Deluxe editions kill me every time haha). I keep hearing how great Vagabond’s story and artwork are, but like you said in the video, I was a bit worried about the binding on these because of other reviews, so I’m glad to hear that you haven’t had issues with it.

I know what you mean with the panels in Berserk and I really enjoy the larger formats as well! Takehiko Inoue's art is something to behold; Super realistic and just as incredible as everyone says! And ah yeah, I'm always concerned with glued binding especially when they are larger volumes but they seem to be holding up really well.

My hardest thing is finding volume 2 it’s impossible to find I was told that due printing problems with covid a few volumes are on hold

I prefer these versions so much more than buying mangas after mangas after mangas I love the big version of berserk also even tho it’s kinda hard to read since it’s so big

Yea I’m going to buy this next, I love the picture on the spine that all join together, Seven Deadly Sins has that too, but it’s a smaller imagine at the bottom. Is Blade of the Immortal any good? I’ve just bought the 3 deluxe editions of Hellsing, the covers are absolutely beautiful, probably even nicer than the Berserk deluxe, it has a different finish to the covers of Berserk, and the bright red cover really looks great. But with Blade of the Immortal they should have chosen a different color than grey.
Agreed, the spines look awesome on the shelf! The grey of the Blade of the Immortal Deluxe Editions definitely don't pop as much on the shelf. Really love the look of Berserk and Hellsing's Deluxe Editions more so, but the quality and the printing is still great! To answer you question though, Blade of the Immortal is amazing! It has a lot of gore, but it also has a great cast of characters and dialogue and a lot of substance to it as well.

I have never read manga, and this came on my radar since its more adult and was recommended to me since I loved the game Ghost of Tsushima. Do you think I could read this as my first manga? Also I'm a little concerned if I'll be able to follow along with the panels with the whole right to left thing... any tips for that?😅 Thank you
Just read it and play some soundtracks from tsushima like bushido. Ghost of Tsushima sountracks fit Vagabond pretty well.
tbh i'm too scared to pick these up since I'm 100 percent sure that they'll come back in deluxe editions such as berserk and vinland to complete the deluxe seinen

Deluxe/Definitive>vizbig>paperback
1-a bigger always leads to a better experience
2- hardcovers are difficult to be damaged when compared to a softcover release
3- less gutter loss+ you can flatten the book on a desk rather than needing to hold it everytime when using a soft cover release
Edit: a paperback book contains a volume worth of content, vizbigs contains 3 volumes and so do deluxe
Well in the case of viz, its not certain that they would release a hardcover release, like the only series I know that they released in hardcover is fist of the north star (but this a new release, look at naoki’s works, death note & dbz they still don’t have any hardcover release)
I think with the success of Darkhorse’s berserk deluxe releases that companies are now following in their footsteps (looking at kodansha making vinland saga a deluxe format that resembles that of berserk)

No, they came out with one more way later, but that was the last one. There isn't a Viz big edtion for that single volume. The Viz big are 3 in ones. Vol 37 can probably be bought later on in the future. Once 38 and 39 have been released.The series is on Hiatus, so don't hold your breath, tho.

I'd personally recommend Vagabond. BERSERK is my favorite manga and I've read 100's.

Serious talk, it's sort of a relief I'm not the only one, I felt so dumb x.X The art in this manga is amazing tho, not much of a manga guy but this is one I can easily recommend.

Don't know if you have the answer but do you know how long it takes viz to reprint a series? I have all of vagabond except vizbigs 5, 9, 11, and 12 because they're out of stock

I usually check Barnes and Noble's site to find out when things are coming back in stock, because they include expected ship dates for out of stock items, but they didn't have the pages for those volumes up. I wish I knew so I could be of help! To give you an idea though, I think I waited like 3 or 4 months before my volumes that I was missing shipped out so it was a while before they arrived. I hope you get the volumes you are missing soon!
Check Amazon, books a million, and a few other sites. Barnes and nobles rarely has them and they always charge more than other sellers.

Vagabond, berserk is much more expensive to collect and its still ongoing

how? VizBigs are 3 in 1 volumes, and to make a VizBig volume 13 there needs to be normal volumes 38 and 39. (VizBig 1-12 contain normal volumes 1-36.)
