Glad it's worth it because I pre-ordered it so fast haha The price is also easier to justify since I've mostly been focusing on keeping up with currently-collecting series rather than starting a ton of new Vol 1's recently.
So volumes 3 and 4 will actually be black? I always thought it was just a placeholder image and that the entire series would be collected in these red books. But splitting it up into different colors (for the different arcs apparently) is really cool as well. The fact that the sigil and the runes change on each volume is also an insane little detail. I'm completely convinced now and I'll definitely be getting these deluxe editions over time.
I was waiting for this release, Vinland Saga is such a good series it deserves this kind of treatment. Thanks for the overview for those still on the fence about it.

Its a curse for me considering I already have the first two hardcovers while at the same time, I want the deluxe editions. If I had all the og volumes I would've made up my mind but now its a scramble between choosing one or the other as both a collector and reader
I'm glad I never pulled the trigger on the 2-in-1s so I don't have to worry about buying the same content twice. The price point may be high but everything you've shown in this video makes it clear that the quality is worth it. I'll be picking this up.
Great timing! I've only been reading Manga for a couple of years, & my first & favourite is Berserk. Been thinking of reading Vinland Saga, as it is definitely my cup of tea, so these editions would be perfect for a newbie to the series 🙂
Feb 22nd it will be in my hands, cant wait, after finishing vinland saga 2 anime i had to start getting the manga and i had seen that book as preorder❤
I dont really know anything about Manga or Vinland Saga, but my friend is a massive fan. This has helped pick out her birthday present. Thank you very much!
Awesome video! I really appreciate that you compared this to other deluxe Manga's and not just the 2n1's. I just started reading manga this year, mainly the Berserk Deluxe Editions. The quality of those deluxe editions is so nice that it makes regular trade paperbacks feel less exciting to me lol. I've watched the first season of Vinland's Anime, and loved it, so I think this will be my next pickup! I want to read the manga before starting season 2 :)
Now when I buy things one of the first things that comes to mind is: will I want to move with this thing? As someone who just moved last month into their new place and downsized from over 2000 volumes to roughly 1200 before I moved I’m sticking with the original versions. They are so much lighter and smaller. Sure maybe you get a lesser quality but the amount of bubble wrap for the Berserk deluxes and added weight really didn’t lend itself to being put in boxes with other stuff.
I literally just got all 5 today for around 150 pounds uk. Never read manga before but I loved the anime and wanted more and saw there's so I just had too get them. As a collector I got to say they are stunning and I couldn't be happier with them
fire vid. quick question - do the pages in the deluxe edition yellow? i had the regular edition from 1 to 13 and all the pages have yellowed over the years. how do the deluxe edition's pages fare?
I've already watched through the first 2 seasons so having to wait months to continue reading is gonna be torture. I read through Berserk through the deluxe editions on my first read and it was such a great experience, and I want that same feel for Vinland.
I sold my 2in1’s months ago in anticipation for these deluxe editions and it was 1000% worth it. Every aspect of the deluxe’s are better than the old editions, from the actual quality hardcover to the better pages and oversized artwork. It’s a beautiful release, better than I thought it would be knowing Kodanshas quality with some of there other releases. They didn’t skimp out on this thank goodness.
I wish the review went over more stuff. Such as; The 2 in 1s have a cover while the deluxe edition don't. That's a pretty big deal breaker in my opinion. Frankly, I dont care about the runes (the 2 in 1s also have that). The deluxe editions take up more space. Because of how large the book is, you are even more limited on space. If your shelf has the depth, you can double stack it. But you can't with the deluxe editions. Are there any other special editions on the deluxe editions? besides the damn runes lol. Obviously larger format is nice (though subjective) and better paper quality and no gutter loses are huge pluses, but that huge price difference on top of double dipping for most of us is just a no go. I dont understand why these deluxe Edition do away with covers. Just look at the edition we get in novels. They look so much better than the stuff we get for manga. Like, look at the wheel of time.
@@STAIND12300nah, the originals have two in one and the spines are about 1.7 inches, the deluxe editions are three in ones and the spines are 2 inches. Also, even if I went with the American 2in1s to save a bit, I've seen too many horror stories about Kodansha US mishaps. Uneven heights, torn edges, misprinted covers, pages printed upside-down, etc. Unless I could physically check a Kodansha book before buying, I'm not getting them.
Really? I'm jealous of the German editions. I find a bunch of German editions so appealing but it's pretty boring in the US.
@@ben99ny69 German VS is just paperback singles. In terms of looks alone, the American hardcovers are much better.
@@AmartharDrakestone oh, no. I meant in general. I dont know how the German vinland saga singles look.
I adore Vinland but the english editions were always a bummer for me. They are light and always felt too cheap for me.
Really excited to pick this one up!
Thanks for the video!
I feel like it being light is probably the point. Easier to read when carrying.
