  • Randall Stoner, aka Madcarver, has been sculpting artwork for over fifteen years and is a consistent top tier award winning artist.
In this video, Randall talks about his love for woodcarving, bringing epic stories to life through carving, and why he uses Schaaf Tools gouges and chisels.
At Schaaf Tools, we love the process of taking a piece of wood and turning it into something special.
It's something that gives us, and many others around the world, a great sense of satisfaction.
We want to give more people the chance to enjoy this feeling. Creating something. Taking an idea from their mind, and carving it into reality with their own hands.
From experienced carvers who have loved the hobby for years, to the beginner picking up a chisel for the first time. What story will you carve?

This is a lovely video and I look forward to seeing more. I have quite a few of the Schaaf tools along with many from the "high-dollar" manufacturers and consider the Schaaf tools among the best. Thanks Randall.

just got a 7 piece set. What are you using for sharpening after you have established the profile and bevel?

Hi, we recommend the Schaaf Tools 400#/1000# diamond stone and a strop

Schaaf Tools what about the inner bevels of the gouges ? They need to be polished and honed to remove the burr.

@@buckbeans1 either a piece of leather that you can curve or a slipstone!

@@buckbeans1 Hi buckbeans1, I use slipstones andor wet and dry abrasive paper on dowels for gouges and folded wet and dry paper for v tools. I follow up with a strop and/or a folded piece of charged leather or a polishing compound charged buffing wheel for internal and external surfaces to get and keep that super fine edge.

@@mikeevans3766 I appreciate your suggestion mike but note that it was not mentioned in any of the instructions. I have been using that method on and off since the seventies. The whole process of working the inner and outer bevel to remove the bevel is actually very tedious and certainly one of the reasons many folk start wood carving but shortly after will put the tools away because they are too impatient and unsure about the process. Need to find a better way.
