I got a bit disappointed when I realized it's the radio version. It's not a huge difference from the album version, but the tonal difference between "I'm really not okay" and "I'm not o-fucking-kay" is a chasm I think.

That word cannot be used on radio unless the station is going to pay a huge fine. Sure stations would mind using the song as is but would rather not have to face a fine.

I am a KJ and when I perform this song I always do the not o-fucking-kay! Even though it is the radio words on the monitor. Definitely makes a difference to the feel and power of the song.
It's also different from the first version that says "and never mind the drugs you took"

The lead singer Gerard way is responsible for the show “The Umbrella Academy!” It’s based on the comic book series Way and Gabriel Bá created.
I'd say he's more than "partly" responsible, since he wrote the damn story 😂 but yes, he wasn't as directly involved in the show. I think he co-produced it, or something along those lines? and he wasn't there for the casting process but I think he oversaw final decisions too

I love Chemical Romance! I read somewhere that Gerard actually hates that they're considered an Emo band LOL I love their old and newer stuff, especially Planetary Go! Awesome driving song!
And he's right to hate it. My Chemical Romance is not an emo band, not by a long shot, most of their songs comprise rock, post punk, and punk rock sounds. And the messages of their songs are usually explanatory, exploratory, or simply uplifting. Their band has provided a sense of empowerment to their listeners, whereas "emo" bands and songs have a very different sound and their messages are usually just complaisant.

I think that’s because back then, most of the fans were emo/scene kids. So by default, they got labeled an emo band. Most bands from back then were not emo at all musically but labeled that because of the fan base.

When this came out, I was a single mom of 2 teenagers and and could absolutely totally relate to every last word word. I still love this band even now and have seen them live 3 times.
This is one song where the music video NEEDS to be watched and observed all the way through.

This takes me back. I was in high school when this album came out. I was a little theater dweeb in a Catholic school, drawing heartagrams in all my notebooks, plastering my walls with posters of Pink and Evanescence. If you haven't done it already, you should give HIM's Wings of a Butterfly or Buried Alive By Love a listen.

Emo is somewhat of a rock music that shows a bit of the emotional side I guess. But any more emo you wanna react to then I recommend Story Of The Year Until The Day I Die. It upholds as a classic for emo kids or those who have an emo like me.

I mean...I played this style of music a good bit back in college. Rhythm guitar is nothing, literally just power chords where you hold your hand in one position and move around the neck. Anyone can pick it up in about a month. I've been told at karaoke that I'm a pretty decent singer...just be a matter of driving an hour to Houston to jam with Alex, lol.

MCR was the go to for a whole generation of misunderstood kids. Back then, listening to anything other pop or rap made you weird. And listening to songs that expressed feeling of sadness made you emotional, thus emo.
I think I would depend on the demographic of the school or situation you were in. In my school, the “normal”music to listen to was mostly rap and some pop. If you listened to MCR and the like, you were emo, and if you listened to hardcore metal and punk rock (like I did), that made you weird. 😂
It still is especially at my school I get bullied all the time for listening to anything other than rap especially MCR.

One day when I was a lad, I stayed home sick from school and MTV was showing the making of this music video (back when they actually showed music). Like a half hour - 1 hour episode, something like that.
I instantly loved this song and the band and they quickly became my favourite.
I finally got to see them live last year and it was amazing.

This song is the first MCR song I ever heard and it honestly got me through middle school 🖤 Your take on the song is very interesting! To me it is about being used & taken advantage of (the girl was using him and had a boyfriend) and being judged for being different. Some people might pretend they are there for you but they really don’t understand or care. Clearly I interpreted this song based on me being 11 and angsty when I discovered it 😂
