However, I don't mean to sound like an ass, but why did your gf choose this song when it's obviously about a failed relationship, and not suicide? Just a weird choice for me. Anyways, I've had a few friends that died young, and I drew portraits for their families, since art is the thing I'm good at.

I might be wrong on that, but it seems to me that Evanescence don't have the best reputation among rock/metalheads. Not sure why that is, but the quality of her voice is undeniable. I can perfectly understand people being moved by it.

@@notquitemytempo1353 The thing is that they are too hard to be in like indie or pop festivals, but not heavier than other metal bands, they are a hard rock that has lots of things going on, like synths, some electronics, piano, it uses orchestra but is not a symphonic metal band, but it still has some heavy songs so they have like their own genre and it's kinda unique and some people don't understand it

I’ll be upfront, I’m not an Evanescence super fan but I will say this this is a song for the ages, beautifully constructed, haunting lyrics sung to absolute perfection and it’s also awesome to watch the live versions on TH-cam. It’s just a killer song played and sung to a point where it’s impossible to criticise and will forever be timeless.

Why don't modern singers sing with actual meaning and beauty like this. This song is so very beautiful and full of purpose. Now days it's "Oh boo hoo he broke up with me!" The Vocals are so soft and elegant whereas the instruments are so hard and badass!

Trivia Fact: This version of the song she hates because it was recorded in 30 minutes at her dad's work studio and was supposed to only be a demo. Her label refused to let her re record a "better" version like she wanted to and shoved it on the album. She later recorded it the way she wanted it to sound for her remake album.
Amy's heart is coming through in both her voice and her lyrics. The band coming in at the end is icing on the cake. On the album "Fallen" there's 2 versions of this song, what we just heard and a pure piano instrumental. Awesome stuff, and FYI, everyone who listens to Amy has a musical crush on her... Her hubby is a lucky man.

I think 2000s was an era of transition so we had some old school rock, alot of pop punk , alt rock ( as angsty teenager these genres were my life ) , then we had beyonce, justin timberlake and rihanna kinda coming in as well. We had the best of both worlds
Believe me, having lived through the mid-2000s, I found bands like Linkin Park and Evanescence, listening to rock music when rap was starting to turn stale. I will love Evanescence and Linkin Park forever.

This is one of those songs NO ONE can dislike, it’s like they recorded actual human emotion, incredible!
This song is almost 20 years old now and came out when I was in my early 20's. It's a song that defiantly hits harder today. Back then, to me it was just a great song by an awesome singer, now it's a powerful emotional song. I can now relate to the lyrics, but not just towards a specific loss or relationship with someone, but towards my memories, my moments, and my mind. The older we get, the more the memories hurt, not just the sad and/or bad ones, like losing a loved ones, as I have lost both my parents over the last twelve years, but the good ones also, like having a wonderful childhood, first getting marriage, your children's births and them being young, these memories of life, moments of time, will never be as great as it once was, as certain moments that will never be experienced again like they were when we lived them. My memories, both happy and sad, are slowly killing me as I can't let go and depend on them so much.

This song was popular when my dad died in 2003. I was holding his hand when he died and then I'd hear it on the radio....and while I know it's about a different type of relationship, but it's so haunting and beautiful and about loss and it reminded me of my dad then . Hearing it today for the first time in years has made me cry again. I miss you dad.

I have sat and listened to this song for hours at times. First heard it in high school, but it became my comfort song after my childhood best friend passed away in 2008. She was hit by a drunk driver when we were in the 5th grade. She passed from complications caused by the injuries at just 19. I just happened to into my Grandma from one my moms previous one day after work I hadn't seen in years after work. She knew her parents That whole day she had been on my mind for some reason, and I asked how she had been. It was the day she passed away.
