Their music style changed when their recording contract ended. They weren't required to do that type of music anymore and could "express themselves more freely." It's a shame though, because I much prefer their older music.

Whatever your opinion of Jared Leto and his acting ability or eccentricities, 30 Seconds to Mars is a really good band and makes good music, imo. Jared Leto is a good singer and is pretty charismatic on stage.
His writing is still good but the fact they've gone full pop annoys me and last album was their worst. .. the first 3 albums were the best but then they went down.. I think its why Tomo quit

Jared Leto has one of the best voices I've ever heard. From their new, to old stuff, I love it all and they're one of my favorite bands.
Ive got to see them live twice. First time was with Linkin Park and they did a CD signing after their show. Second time, Jared actually called me up onto stage and I have a selfie with just him and I to prove it. He's an awesome guy and really cares about making their fans apart of the show.
How the hell do they not know of 30 Seconds to Mars!? Loved Jared Leto and the bands music LONG before Jared decided to act. Watch both Alex and Nik’s reaction videos all the time! ❤️

Actually, this came out just after he shot "Chapter 27". He played Mark David Chapman and gained 60 pounds to play the part. When this video was shot he was still in the process of losing the weight.

The hotel they're in is the Overlook Hotel in The Shining, hence the references in the ballroom, the drink being served (Jack Torrence sold his soul for a drink), the twins (remember the twin girls spotting Danny Torrence?) as well as many others. The guys had a BLAST doing this video!
The whole album "A Beautiful Lie" is so good. You really should check out more from it. Also their self titled debut album from 2002 is great. Echelon is my favorite track on that one.

Literally my first contact of their music was in 2006/2007 when the "Zune", Microsofts Ipod, was around and had preinstalled this MV on it. And once I heard this type of music led to the love of the specific bands and genres i will never get tired of! Gives that AFI vibe when I first heard them from Sing the Sorrow or Decemberunderground Album
