meat is fresher here in the Philippines, especially in the provinces, than in most US grocery stores where most meats in the FREEZER and when thry don't get sold, thry throw it out in the trash even if it's not yet bad because regulations...so much food wastage in America.
Hello gentleman i am 67 year old american living in negros occidental for year and a half near san Carlos. I just wanted to mention on the medical. The hospitals about a 50 minute ride from my home. I had a stomach bacteria from bad hamburger meat i bought at a store. I was in the hospital 2 days in a private room everything else ambulance everything dr medication x-rays blah blah blah the whole bill was how about $500. I'm very happy except the same like you said if i have a heart attack or some and almost an hour ride that could be a problem. Thank you for the channel
Hey Gio, this guy is super chill I've talked to him a few times at Dumaguete Central (GZ). He's an excellent communicator, and should do very well as his storytelling abilities and attention to detail concerning his experiences are intriguing at best. Again good luck to you sir, good interview Gio.
I left USA for the Philippines a year ago. Living in the province is awesome!! I'm on a $1,500 a month disability check and that is plenty. I built my own home a few years back so i dont pay rent however you can rent a spot here on average for under $100 bucks a month. Lived in Miami 35 years over 15 in Seattle so big cities I can do without. No sirens, horns or gunshots can be heard around here just roosters barking dogs and karaoke 🎤 it's always better in the Philippines
his prices for Medical are correct. I live in La Union and have been to the ER several times for surfing injuries, sickness etc. It is $15 per visit MRI with reports from Doctors is $225. Cash price, no insurance. Regular Doctors visit is $20. You might have to get used to the signage though, like the one that said "This is a breast feeding Hospital only, no bottle feeding allowed"
When we built our house in the Philippines my husband just wanted the builders build us a concrete "box" with roof and he did everything inside himself according to how we want it to be done. He even wired the whole house himself after the certified electrician connected our place from the main line across the street.
Hello, just wondering,Whats the amp rating of your main electrical panel since hes the one who installed the electrical system? Here in the US its mostly 100amp panel but newer houses are going for 200 or even 300Amps!
I also built a simple 400ft² block house on my wife's family land. We live in about $680USD equivalent Canadian pension. We definitely don't live fancy, but we enjoy life.
My late good Canadiab brother-in-law was having a heart attack and had to SHOP AROUND for a hospital in the States because no one would give him first aid in theur emergency room. He died in the ER. Philipoine hispitajs are bound by law to treat you first during emergency events!
Nice insight into province life from Darrell, seems like a really nice guy. I agree with him on the meat issue as here it's killed the same day it's sold and once it's done, there's no more. Even the seafood is caught the day it's sold and we have guys wandering the neighbourhood selling their morning's catch. We moved to a provincial area to look after "momma" and you couldn't drag us back to a major metro area unless it was extreme circumstances. Yes, it has its inconveniences, but for us the positives far outweigh those but I realise it's not for everyone. We're about 2.5 - 3 hours north of Dumaguete. There's 2 other expats in town other than myself.
Yup when we lived in the province in 2015-2018 we get our fresh pork delivered to our place still warm when I prepare it for cooking. We can't wait to move back there next year.
yeah,,,,im sure the hospitals are top notch,,,,If u are an older expat no way i would live in the province. I have had so many foreigner friends who needed medical attention promptly, now all of them moved back to the USA or to a big city. There is a guy i just met here, he crashed on a motorbike in the province and got horrible medical attention in the province. He is over 60 though, he looks in pretty bad shape.
I agree with Darrell about Baguio. It’s one of my favorite places i have visited. My fiancé is going there this weekend I hope she picks me up a souvenir lol 😊
We have built a 4 bedroom house, beautiful metal roofing & metal tiles, sliding windows, really nice home for $12,000 AUD, my wifes younger sister was the project manager 😅 absolutely amazing job they have done. Cannot wait to get out of Australia with family to live in Pangasinan, near the beautiful Hundred Islands National Park. Not many foreigners there too which is excellent, not like that dramagette & other places these foreigners live. & can totally understand why this guy likes Baguio! Totally agree with him about the food too, food in Australia is horrid, rotten overpriced poison, fruits also terrible. Food in the Philippines is Fresh & organic.
Hahaha... I am bald my friend and I was diagnosed with skin cancer last Friday. Not really winter clothes just trying to cover up from the sun. It is awkward wearing a beanie at 69, but my hat size is 8 1/4 and almost impossible to find any hat that will fit
Maybe you should try a thing called a “buff” the TV show Survivor made them famous. They keep the sun off your head. They’re plenty big for a lug head like me. My head is just slightly smaller than yours not calling you a lug head, but hey if the hat fits! Just kidding! No, really I’ve used those things called buff for many years now on hot days I get them wet and put my hardhat over the top of them they’re thin. They keep the sun off your head and when you get them wet, they hold moisture and it’s actually kind of cooling. You just simply get them wet and ring out all the water and put it on. There’s about 13 different ways of wearing one when I wear mine. It usually looks like I have a bandanna wrapped around my head except there’s no knot tying. They come in hundreds of different prints. See if you can maybe order one delivered or maybe someone can send you one from back home. The one I have currently looks like a blue bandanna same type of print. When I think you’ll really like it.
I’m sure if you found one of those full brim hats like Geo pushes you could have a seamstress, cut one apart and make it a little bigger for you. I would want a wide rim hat like a boon cap. I’m thinking about having a mission hat customized to fit me. Because my head is so large.
Gio, I think this is my first time commenting on any of your videos, ( wonderful videos for learning by the way! ), but this interview with Darrell, hit me right in the "heart". The man is the same age as me, has exactly the same attitude towards his surroundings as I do. My admiration for him, and thus myself, enables me to make some concrete choices about preparing to move to the Philippines. This video was like a revelation I have NEVER had before. THANKS Gio!
To each his own! Life in the Province is too primative for most ExPats! I will stick with a solid middle class/upper middle class life at $2,500.-$3,000. per month. Been here 8 years and live in One Oasis -Davao which I know Gio is familiar with.
Great video. As a guy that spent 22.5k usd on a condo in Thailand I don't think that $600 budget would be the end of the world. Condo fee $12, power $30, internet $12, phone $10, food $250, etc. My basic living costs are well under $600 excluding entertainment (pool and beach are free). That said I normally spend around 1400 living extremely well. The super low overhead allows me to spend on experiences and fun rather than basic living costs.
Nice story and perspective. Personally I wouldn’t live so remotely at his age. I am 67 and don’t take any meds, exercise daily, eat organic foods, and I am thin. But age related emergencies happen at my age no matter how healthy you are. I would need to be closer to better healthcare
Healthcare is or should be a major concern when living in remote areas or just in any other less developed countries like the Philippines. Minor ailments are easily and cheaply treated. But long-term treatments or operations can seriously set one back financially. Older expats find it hard or impossible to get affordable health insurance. Best to live well within an hour of a town or city that has a full-service hospital in case of emergencies.
Imagine that experience of meeting someone for the first time and they start telling you all the good things they heard about you doing for others. Love that.
Few realize the ridges north from Bagiou along the famed WW2 US designed Halmahera Hiway is the vegy basket of the PH due to climate & altitude. Amazing riding were it not so crowded. The mummy caves of Sagada are cool to see.
I live in central Leyte in a Brgy of about 550 people. From late 2019 until late 2022 I did not see another foreigner. I was the only white man in the county of 23,000 people I lucked up having great Filipino neighbors that today have become my new family.
I’m in Parang Maguindanao. I also built a house for about 5,000 usd. I have to return to the states for one year, but I will be back for retirement. I had no problem with my contractors. I am 4 hours away from Cotabato city and the hospital. I raise pigs, ducks, and chickens for extra money. I can’t wait to return.
I really enjoyed his perspective and attitude towards his lifestyle in baguio . I visited baguio a few years ago and thought it might be a great place to retire. And I'm a San Diego native who is looking forward to following his channel.
Yh, ive been to baguio, and loved it. Less pollution too, in mountains, frsh air. Nice parks, resorts, forests with horse riding, historic sites, lot nice restos, taxis that dont scam u, very good price, mountain roads to walk.
U Can Get a " PELICAN Or OTTER Box " to Stash CASH In ( As a RAINY DAY FUND/ SHTF ) !!! They Are Air & Water TIGHT And I KEEP One Buried Outside ( About 50%>>>SHOULD Someone Get My INSIDE FUNDS ) !!!
@@GiointhePhilippines Sweet. I did it there too. Covering all the bases. You and he are really inspiring me to give serious thought & planning into visiting the Philippines 🇵🇭 with the intent on retiring there in about 9 years. Maybe less. Cheers 🥂!
I live in a province on Cebu, im one of 3 other foreigners living in the area and we rarely bump into each other. I used to live in Mandaue City and im happily relieved to be out of the city and living up in the stickd
I agree living in the province is cheap and the food is fresh though prefer a city with a decent hospital just in case with malls like SM and Ayala for convenience.
In areas where they have traditionally eaten pork and/or chicken, and this applies worldwide, they have a culture that likes to overcook meat, and that stems from pre refrigeration days. Especially in the south of the US, back in the day, it was common to get worms from undercooked pork or chicken. And in those days it was a big deal. Today we have refrigeration of course, and diagnosing and getting rid of worms is much easier. But those cultures use to overcook the meat to prevent worms and it has carried over to modern times for many, because that is how they are taught to cook the meat as a kid. When my wife cooks, she overcooks the meat, even beef. I cant get her to not do it, so I do a lot of the cooking. My daughters learned to cook meat from me, especially one, my youngest is really into cooking, and she is good, and she loves rib eye roasts rare in the middle and eating it on sandwhiches or with horseradish sauce.
I dont know about a $5k cost of 400sq ft house, specially if its made of concrete. Even if you live in the boonies, the materials cost will be the same, if not, even more expensive. I am building a 20ft retaining wall right now in Bohol and so far, it’s costing $1,500 and they just started😂😂😂
I was my own contractor '/ engineer and bought all of the materials. I paid my main guy $20 a day the second was $12 a day. I had no mark up on labor or materials. Example. I had a patio built 12' by 24' by 4" thick. The labor was $7,000 and it took them 4 days. 10 bags of Portland cement equivalent and P1,500 for the sand. and probably 30 hollow blocks at P7 each. There ya go
Great entertaining Vlog as always and I think it would bring tonnes of Views to make a Vlog featuring this seemingly amazing $5000 house. Best of luck and God speed!
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat Other than my sincere interest to create a similar home for myself in the future, I truly believe a Vlog on this kinda topic showing any well priced house would bring tonnes of interest and tonnes a views sure.
The post office seems to be unreliable there, if you don't pay extra for proof of address, it will not arrive with certainty, I have sent both postcards and letters with guaranteed correct address and enough postage but it has never reached the addressee.
I am going to move to a small province and out of Lipa City. Tired of the crazy unlawful drivers and ski high rent. Updating my girlfriends father's land and his old house and saving a ton of money. No more 20,000 pesos a month for old and dilapidated rentals where YOU are responsible for all the things that go wrong with it because the landlords don't want to take care of their crappy homes. I've had it. NO MORE.
UCSD, Scripps Memorial both top notch hospital in San Diego . The institution is good but the staff and doctors like anything there are some bad ones and their mistakes will kill a patients. I had the unfortunate luck of running into bad doctors and had to call 911 from the hospital bed to be transferred to a different hospital. How do I know that the care I’m getting is subpar! I’m a retired 32 years Critical Care Registered Nurse. Philippine doctors are comparable to the US, EU. Why human body are all the same regardless of ethnicity…😮
We built our 100 sq meters house in Solano Region 2 in 2017 for 35k USD, My internet is 1,150 pesos a month, that's about 20 USD, My power bill is 2,600 pesos a month about 46 USD and we have a soda cooler in our canteen store and our water is about 600 pesos a month , My biggest cost is our food but we eat out a lot ...it's cheap out in the country to live and i would never live in a Philippine city or a American city ....I just got a Honda PCX scooter 160 cc for 138k ,Its good enough for 2 people but the ADV 160 or Nmax 155 seems to be foreigners' choice of scooters here in Solano .
35 K for 200 Sq. meters? That is way way too high. And in 2017? That's where my girlfriend is from and where I am moving in January. Why so much? I'm rebuilding her Dad's home for less than 10 grand. 150 Sq. Meters. Why so costly?
Are you in the Philippines or coming? Let me know I'd love to meet you. I will be traveling the Philippines doing more videos so if you're here I will be near there eventually
Ive lived in SE Asia for over 30 years and in all that time of eating out and eating street food I've only gotten really sick twice - both tines in the Philippines.
Here in the states I spend over $3000 a month for all bills …I’m looking forward to that life I’ve longer for yrs for a much simpler slow life and America can’t provide that anymore…Age now 48
Gio another interesting vid 😊 Darrel sounds like a good guy and his age vs appearance is deceiving and a possible future project might be before and after pics of ex-pats as some have shown their pics before relicating and they look noticeably healthier in the Philippines 🤔
It's rainy season in the Philippines😂. Don't go by the forecast. Usually when rain is listed in the forecast it only lasts for a short time unless it's a typhoon/tropical storm
Lol , I know they say rain everyday in the forecasts I live in Dumaguete The forecasts has been wrong 80% of the time. Not much rain here, just overcast daily 😊
Hi Geo, love your stuff. Thinking of going to Dipolog and was wondering if you can tell me the name of the place you stayed. I believe the second place because the first was not to your liking. Thanks
Thank you. Honestly, this guy can pass as a Filipino or a Fil-Am😅 I mean look at him wearing a beanie and long sleeves in the Philippines, you rarely see a foreigner do that even in Baguio 😄
Unless they are trying to cover up from the sun. I'm have Basil Cell Carcinoma surgery Friday for skin cancer. Second time BTW. My hat size is 8 1/4. They don't really make those in mass and I've looked in every hat store in every mall I've been to. So that leaves the beanie. K? Thanks for your concern
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat Sorry, what I meant was you might have adapted to the environment already to be comfortable enough. Btw, you might want to buy those wide brim soft hats that locals wear when in the fields. And in the Philippines, we normally use an umbrella when we go out in the sun.
Thanks for the advice and taking the time my friend. I have the wide brim also but didn't bring them because the suit case was tight so I brought the beanie instead. I will wear the beanie more when I am in Baguio. If you live there you know the fog and / or rain can roll in pretty quickly. The umbrella is always either on the porch drying off or in my backpack. @@pinoytunes7707
They also have flies that land etc. But you wash it and cook it. The meat sells out every day so it's pretty darn fresh. I'd say it's common for meat to be consumed less than 24 hours from the last time it was walking around
Great I’m currently living in San Diego and I have my eyes in Dumaguete. Reason, bloggers recommends and Siliman hospital in the area… fresh foods, organic vegetables 🥦 !!!
From San Diego county, also. Expensive. Home prices and rent are ridiculously high. Unaffordable for most. We will be in the Philippines early in 2024 and eventually retire. We purchased land and intend to build. A few obligations are holding me here. Otherwise, I’d already be in the Phils.
I was in Iloilo for a month. I met a few expats and asked them how the medical system held up vs. USA. They said that a 911 system just got organized and was still better to call the hospital in case of an emergency. They also agreed that they would only use the PH. hospital to get stabilized and then head to Guam for more advanced medical care. One of them also questioned the competency of the doctors in the country. He had lived there for four years. He also added that Thai Land had a better infrastructure as well as more modern medical care. I do not know as I was only there for a month and never been to Thai Land.
Yes tricycle jeepney drivers live hand to mouth. You see them put fuel in and it’s only usually 2 litres. So they can’t pay out 700 pesos in one go for chairs. 30,000 pesos a month with no rent yes it’s doable but you are existing not living.
Yes and that is why they appreciated it so much. I love the way even the simple things here are appreciated here. I live as most do where I live. My life style is not for everyone. I travel over 50% of the time. But I am content with my life here. If I found something I wanted to buy for P50K I could do it in a moment with out having to budget. I could also do that every month and still save on top of that. Sometimes it's a choice
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat that’s very good although your budget is very modest by expat standards you live within your means. Plenty expats that have a monthly budget of 100,000 pesos and live month to month.
I am. Ex means no longer as in Ex-wife. Pensive as in stressing and expat as in No longer residing in America / No longer stressed American living in the philippines
Lol,the construction concerns me..I used to install 1000$ gold plated faucets and as a 3rd gen carpenter perfectionist the struggle will be real😊 where is this place??
Hi Darrell, wondering what your approximate after tax SS payment is? Or maybe it's not taxed. Just trying to figure out what my realistic options are, I know it would be different since you're also splitting expenses with a second person.
I don't really want to get too into my personal financial. Just assume my income is average for Social Security. If you're wondering because I spoke about $600 a month after rent in the province I also travel an average of 60% to 80 % of the time above that monthly $600.
Darrell, great interview, next time you are in Angeles City please look me up, I got alot of questions I have!!?? I have been here for almost a year now, 7 Dec 2022. Wow, what area are you in for that low?? You are " D" man. I would love you to consult us on our future home build!! 🏡 Thank you for your time. All be blessed and safe!!
Well on the rent I was misinformed. That is what the current Tennant was paying. The new rents are actually P4K or $72 USD at the current exchange rate. They are building more units that should be done very soon so there will be more fresh units available soon. It's a 12 peso jeepney ride to the terminal in Porac Then a P48 ride to SM Clark or P25 to Nepo Mall. Total commute probably an hour each way worst case situation. I also have Ex_Pensive_Expat on face book so it's also easy to chat using that. I will be back in Porac by the 27th/28th
This guy at 60 something is probably healthier then i am at 41 😂 part of the reason im picking the phillipines. The nature and the people. The stress of American life is too much. My blood pressure is to high and i have diabetes. Though its under control and can disappear if i watch it and keep it in check. Of course i have to make money while there. So ill have my business and stuff. But all the other stress in life will hopefully go away. I can just relax and enjoy life.
If you cook your own food and shop at the public market your health most likely will improve. The average expat I talk to will say their stress level has reduced by about 80%
I was diagnosed with skin cancer last week and having surgery tomorrow (Friday). As to the hat, I have a bald head and as soon as I find other hats with size 8 1/4, I will be wearing other hats to protect my bald head. That's also why I wear long sleeves. Finding 8 1/4 hats size is almost as common as size 16 shoes. Especially hard to find in the Philippines
Built over 300 sq m in Hanoi for under 60k but the land is 1.5 million Decent land can be leased for $100 a month in Thailand, Vietnam or the Phillipines Expat 37 years, not speculating.
'''Every man has a story''' - ? - That is his. -- Many people pay rent and live well enough on perhaps $800 in some places. His electric bill of $120 is mabe 3 times more than some ? Medical could be a real gamble - eventually - cause none of us are getting any younger !
I "Live" off of just $550-$600 a Month back here in Florida. BUT Everything I own, I OWN! Is Paid Off! I only Pay Utilities like Electric, Internet, Insurance and a Combination of Eating at Home and Going out.. My Electric also Varies depending On Season from Between $35-80. I could move over there and If I Could Find a Place that #1 Allowed me to keep my Dog and #2 Included Utilities in the Rent, Yeah I would move there because back here in the US.. It's turning into a Shit Show... I would Also Consider Vietnam and they would be even Cheaper to live and Better Food and Cleaner... And then Teach English and get paid to do so.. Combine that with my Guaranteed Disability Income and I could Live VARY WELL there.. Both Countries having their own +/-'s...
I don't think there would be a problem renting a place that accepts pets here. I chose it here because of the amount of people who speak English. As for the food I cook most of my own and used to doing that for many years in America. The main difference here is how fresh everything is. There is American food sold most everywhere
The first mistake the guy made was expecting anything, let alone perfection, from the construction. The number one rule of the Philippines: it is impossible to get anything done. I'm surprised he didn't know about this rule just from his visits. You paid $5k for a house, you get a $5k house.
See the pictures in the next video. No you just ned to find the one who will built it as you explain. Once I found that guy it was super smooth sailing. On my first two visit building a house was not even a thought
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat Actually, a $5K house in the phil. u get a $50K house. I know from experience, knobs for example, for the kitchen. I built a house in 2006-07 in Los Angeles, Ca. (no, there were whore bars all over the place, lol), I was visiting the phil at the time. The bamboo and knobs for example, I got the knobs from Home Depot. Us costs, $10 for a cabinet knob. Phil. cost, $1. Labor, super cheap, like the guy says in the comments, u have to find the right guy I had to do the same. But general labor in Phil., waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper. I also spent $500k of the $1,000,000 profit on my divorce. lol. TRUE.
Practice make perfect my friend. I could afford a budget several times what it costs me. I maintain a home there and travel most of the time. But the simple life is why I came here. It wasn't that way when I stepped off the plane. But if you cook 95% of your meals and thats your biggest expense you can only eat so much.
Gotta say I live in NYC (Staten Island) and it could take 20-40mins to get a ambulance and get to the hospital so if it takes 20-30 in the Philippines to get to a hospital then I’m all for it 😂
i have ldr for 8 years, they evolve if they watch netflix and stuff... same with me, ill arrive 15 nov stay 1 week in manila to sight see and go to my gf, break up. any way i can find some ok priced condos?
I respect his choices and whatever he decides to do however, I do worry about the budget and what will happen if he gets sick or has an accident. Even if he is a veteran with disabilities through the military and can go to Manila for treatment they will only treat his disabilities not any other ailments. If he goes to a doctor or hospital he has to pay up front or they just won’t treat you.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I have always read that over 60 that health care cost here in the PI is very pricey. I just turned 62 and been here since March and things are finally slowing down for me so I will be checking on some health care. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

meat is fresher here in the Philippines, especially in the provinces, than in most US grocery stores where most meats in the FREEZER and when thry don't get sold, thry throw it out in the trash even if it's not yet bad because regulations...so much food wastage in America.
Thank you!! Wow
This guy is spot on, less foreigners, cheap food
I left USA for the Philippines a year ago. Living in the province is awesome!! I'm on a $1,500 a month disability check and that is plenty. I built my own home a few years back so i dont pay rent however you can rent a spot here on average for under $100 bucks a month. Lived in Miami 35 years over 15 in Seattle so big cities I can do without. No sirens, horns or gunshots can be heard around here just roosters barking dogs and karaoke 🎤 it's always better in the Philippines
Very candid and entertaining video. Good job Gio and Darrell
Thanks so much!
My flight coming soon in three weeks, Los Angeles- Manila- Bacolod!
his prices for Medical are correct.
@@victorrosales1932 it is 220amp which is the standard in the Philippines.
69 yrs old! Would never have guessed. Wishing Darrell all the best.
Hey Gio, great video. This guy seems like a great person, and I look forward to visiting his channel and learning more about how he lives there.
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you my friend
So he is 69, wears winter clothing in tropical climate, good health and $600 per month. This fella could be part machine imo.
Hahaha... I am bald my friend and I was diagnosed with skin cancer last Friday. Not really winter clothes just trying to cover up from the sun. It is awkward wearing a beanie at 69, but my hat size is 8 1/4 and almost impossible to find any hat that will fit
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat smart move! Hard to believe you're 69... my facial hair is grey/white and I'm 55...lol
No way he is 69. Looks as young as Gio. Anyway seems like a solid guy.
Gio, I think this is my first time commenting on any of your videos,
( wonderful videos for learning by the way! ), but this interview with Darrell, hit me right in the "heart". The man is the same age as me, has exactly the same attitude towards his surroundings as I do. My admiration for him, and thus myself, enables me to make some concrete choices about preparing to move to the Philippines. This video was like a revelation I have NEVER had before. THANKS Gio!
Wow, Thank you so much.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Darrell is a good guy.
To each his own! Life in the Province is too primative for most ExPats! I will stick with a solid middle class/upper middle class life at $2,500.-$3,000. per month. Been here 8 years and live in One Oasis -Davao which I know Gio is familiar with.
Everyone is different I'm a forester by trade. Been in the navy lived in Vietnam provinces. My income is $3000 monthly but prefer province life.
Thanks! I'm really enjoying your videos and comprehensive information /variety of subjects and information. ✌️ 🤙
Awesome, thank you!
The beauty of South East Asia
When I was in the US (I’m Asian)..that 1400 will be my rent, well maybe 1300
Living extremely well hahahahaha😂
I had the same experience with my house. They go by the philosophy that close is good enough.
Well if all you know is "Close is good" enough then wanting details can appear to be arrogant
Nice story and perspective. Personally I wouldn’t live so remotely at his age. I am 67 and don’t take any meds, exercise daily, eat organic foods, and I am thin. But age related emergencies happen at my age no matter how healthy you are. I would need to be closer to better healthcare
Yes I agree 👍 with that
It is not really a remote area. It is just a little bit far from the city but with roads going to it..
@@ALFarrell-kv6ok Philippines less developed? Have you been in the big cities of the Philippines? lol
It's really small deeds that go a long way here, especially when you're in the province; but central Luzon is not really "with no other foreigners"

Few realize the ridges north from Bagiou along the famed WW2 US designed Halmahera Hiway is the vegy basket of the PH due to climate & altitude. Amazing riding were it not so crowded. The mummy caves of Sagada are cool to see.
Give it another year or so and the province life and their embrace of you will get old real fast.

I’m in Parang Maguindanao. I also built a house for about 5,000 usd. I have to return to the states for one year, but I will be back for retirement. I had no problem with my contractors. I agree living in the province is cheap and the food is fresh though prefer a city with a decent hospital just in case with malls like SM and Ayala for convenience.
Is there an "in between" / compromise? Places where you have access to a city, but still live like it's the Province?

Those are very valid points

UCSD, Scripps Memorial both top notch hospital in San Diego . The institution is good but the staff and doctors like anything there are some bad ones and their mistakes will kill a patients.

Thanks for the advice and taking the time my friend. I have the wide brim also but didn't bring them because the suit case was tight so I brought the beanie instead. I couldn’t buy meat from public market. I seen the utensils they used and no sanitation whatsoever I seen people wiping knives with a dirty cloth.
They also have flies that land etc. But you wash it and cook it. The meat sells out every day so it's pretty darn fresh. I'd say it's common for meat to be consumed less than 24 hours from the last time it was walking around

My VA doctor informed me last month that veterans relayed to him that Guam will no longer treat you there unless you have a permanent address there.

Well on the rent I was misinformed. That is what the current Tennant was paying. The new rents are actually P4K or $72 USD at the current exchange rate. They are building more units that should be done very soon so there will be more fresh units available soon.
The average expat I talk to will say their stress level has reduced by about 80%
@Ex-Pensive_Expat that's what I'm hoping for. Between expenses, media, social media etc. I'm ready for a change

No way he isn’t HOT wearing that hat(lol).
No doubt 😂
I was diagnosed with skin cancer last week and having surgery tomorrow (Friday). As to the hat, I have a bald head and as soon as I find other hats with size 8 1/4, I will be wearing other hats to protect my bald head. That's also why I wear long sleeves. Finding 8 1/4 hats size is almost as common as size 16 shoes. Especially hard to find in the Philippines
If he is bold , he don't need so much light outside , he takes the hat off at home and saves on electricity , smart guy!

I would like to know what province are you in? It looks beautiful place
Looks like somewhere in Pampanga since he mention Angeles.
Gio, are you In Dumaguete?
'''Every man has a story''' - ? - That is his. -- Many people pay rent and live well enough on perhaps $800 in some places. His electric bill of $120 is mabe 3 times more than some ? Medical could be a real gamble - eventually - cause none of us are getting any younger !
What barangay does Darrell live in? Provivence ? Thanks for posting vid
I live in Pulung Santol, Porac, Pampanga or when in Baguio Victory Village on Quezon Hill
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat enjoy your vids, very informative about area
Thank you. My next is coming to Dumaguete@@thefilipinapee
Loperamide is good to always keep on hand.
I almost always drink the water and occasional Loperamide is good enough.
Hi New subscriber here from province of Cebu municipality of badian Philippines 😘💋
(no, there were whore bars all over the place, lol),
I was visiting the phil at the time. The bamboo and knobs for example, I got the knobs from Home Depot. Us costs, $10 for a cabinet knob. Phil. cost, $1. Labor, super cheap, like the guy says in the comments, u have to find the right guy
I had to do the same. But general labor in Phil., waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper.
I also spent $500k of the $1,000,000 profit on my divorce. lol. TRUE.
OUCH. Was the divorce from a State-side marriage, or Philippines?@@BP7BlackPearl
Sounds like he is an expert on cheap living.
A Really Nice Guy Like You Gio, Hopefully I Get To Met Him & You Again At The Gym
Which gym> Lets do it
I respect his choices and whatever he decides to do however, I do worry about the budget and what will happen if he gets sick or has an accident. Even if he is a veteran with disabilities through the military and can go to Manila for treatment they will only treat his disabilities not any other ailments. If he goes to a doctor or hospital he has to pay up front or they just won’t treat you.
That is a long term concern. Keep in mind there is health insurance here for Expats and It's cheaper than in the US
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I have always read that over 60 that health care cost here in the PI is very pricey. I just turned 62 and been here since March and things are finally slowing down for me so I will be checking on some health care. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I swear that I've given money to a hundred different Filipinos, they're always grateful enough to beg for more.
