    Vladamir, great unboxing as always. I'm nearly certain I am now the proud owner of these shoes. Purchased them from my friend Alberto and I'm not sure where he got them from. I had already seen this unboxing but now watched it again and the flat laces, the slight indent on the left toe cap before the stitching etc. makes me think its the same pair. Sorry they didn't fit you but they seem to work quite well for me. The sizing is interesting though as I'm usually a EU 41 or 41.5 but these at 40.5 are great.

      @v_r_  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Aaron, yeah the Vass people have a good sense of humor. After further review, the F last is actually not a good fit for me, they gape are the sides sadly and I tried a couple different sizes. I’d say the instep is about the same compared to Carmina Rain and a little shallower than the L&T S last.

      I can always depend on your comments to make me chuckle and this one is no different. As far as the number of shoes, we won’t get into specifics since my wife reads the comments LOL. But I’ll say this, I’m blessed to have more than the average man but probably less than the average shoe enthusiast.
      The fact that I’m holding them up and talking about them (as opposed to just quietly wearing them like most people do) probably make them seem like a lot more than they are. I’m very selective of what I buy and really try not to have different versions of the same shoe, unless it’s a plain Captoe Oxford then all bets are off 😂😂.

    Beautiful shoes! Toe taps seem to be a great investment when you are purchasing expensive quality shoes. I have a Hungarian co worker he pronounces VASS something like "VOSH", if I'm not mistaken it means "workshop" in Hungarian. What color trousers or suits could you pull off with that color? The museum effect makes it pop! Great video as always. BTW, nice pocket square and super dope tie! Keep it up bro!

    • @v_r_
      @v_r_  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What’s up, bro? Interesting about the right pronunciation, now I know. As far as matching those shoes, I use them the same as I would any Medium Brown and pair them with Light to Medium Greys mostly. I feel like they’re a little too light for Charcoal and Navy. I’ll make a video on that in the Fall.

      Hi Guys! I am Hungarian and I can confirm that the family producing the shoes is from Budapest, Hungary. The name VASS is a fairly common name in Hungarian and it can be translated as "iron". It is an old name coming probably from the middle ages when family names were given after their jobs. Probably they were miners or something related to producing iron. There was a famous nobleman in Transylvania (which was part of Hungary back in the days) with the name of Vass: Wass Albert. He emigrated to the USA after the second WW. The name VASS can be pronounced as "VOSH" . It is not an exact pronunciation but comes close.

    nice review, just wondering if the stiffener in the captoe is soft like Carmina? I noticed that Spanish and Portugese captoe oxford tend to creases in the captoe more because of the stiffener is not strong enough. Yes, excess material in RTW shoes (too long, too short, excess material on the vamp) are factors, but I think if the manufacturer put stiffener strong enough like in higher end shoes (Lobb's or sub 1000 like Weston) it helps to prevent the creasing. What do you think?

    • @v_r_
      @v_r_  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Ilham, that’s a good question. Extra material across the vamp in RTW shoes can usually lead to creasing but I’ve seen bespoke and high end RTW shoes with some really deep creases also.
      I’m not 100% sure what causes them, if it’s fit issues, the way someone walks, the stiffener etc, but I’m under the impression that in most cases, they can’t be completely avoided.

    I am going to order my first pair of Vass shoes. right now I only have a pair of Magnanni and Allen Edmonds in size 14. My Magnanni's fit perfectly in size 14 but my Allen Edmonds are little more roomy in size 14. In your opinion how does the F Last in Vass shoe sizes run? The chart I am looking at says my European shoe sie would be 47 if I ordered a 14. If they run large I might need to order a 46.5.

    • @v_r_
      @v_r_  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vass is tough to size, at least in my case. I’m still not really sure what my size is with them. Part of the problem is, they’re my first shoes that are sized in EU instead of UK.
      I’m a 7 UK in all the shoes that I own. So I first tried a 41 and it was too big, I then tried the 40.5 and it’s not an ideal fit either as the shoes gape on the sides. There’s a chance that I’m possibly a 40 but I’m not really sure.

To date I’ve been wearing Allen Edmonds and Alden’s, but some of the shoe makers in Spain, Italy and Portugal are quite stylish. I’m interested in buying a pair of medium brown suede cap toes or suede split toe loafers. What company would you recommend? I’d like to spend between $300 to $500. My foot is a 10.5 U.S./EE with a normal instep.

    Vladimir - another awesome vid. Thank you. Quick sizing question as I want to order a pair F last Vass. I know you said you've worn Meermin shoes in the past. Can you comment if your Vass shoes are the same size as you Meermin shoes or did you size up or down? Thanks man.

    • @v_r_
      @v_r_  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Charles, thanks for watching. My Meermin shoes are on the Ben and the Elton lasts and I take a 7 UK in both. Vass shoes sizing is tricky when compared to most shoes because they’re in European sizes as opposed to UK sizes. My first pair was a 41 and it was too big. Then all my new pairs are 40.5 but I’m finding out that the fit is not ideal there either as they gape on the side. I’m sorry I couldn’t give you a better answer on that.
      Buying shoes without trying them on first is always a gamble. And sometimes a last is just not the right match for your feet regardless of the size. I’d say try reaching out to their customer service email for help.

    • @chuckaroo72
      @chuckaroo72 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the helpful honest reply. I agree, buying online is tricky. My Elton last Meermin aren’t the right size. I have a pair of TLB Mallorca Artista on the way (thanks to you ha) from Skolyx now and spent days of thinking trying to pick a size before pulling the trigger. Guess I’ll find out if I’m right when they get here.
      That’s the tricky thing. With the exception of driving to NYC (2 hours) to try on Carmina or C&J I guess, all the other stuff I would want (Vass, Enzo Bonafè, TLB, etc.) are hard to find and the hassle of returning to Europe is not ideal.
      Looking forward to your next vid. Picked up some Spier & Mackay gear also since watching. Thanks again for the good info.

    • @v_r_
      @v_r_  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The good thing with Carmina is a lot of other retailers are familiar with them so they’re able to tell what size I should take based on my Rain and Robert size but nothing is 100%.
      Congratulations! Which style did you get from Arista? I’m looking forward to trying them one day soon myself.

      Good point on using Carmina as a size comparison. I have to go try on a rain last next time I’m up in NY.
      I got the dark brown balmoral cap toe. The on-foot pictures sold me and I don’t have this color yet. www.skolyx.se/en/shoes/609-tlb-artista-cap-toe-balmoral-oxford-vegano-dark-brown.html

    One of the best Vass lasts is the P2. It is still sleek and elegant but has a bit more toe space than the F, U and K. Vass leather quality is same as most top shoemakers. Don’t they all source their leather from the same 10 tanneries? Carmina’s leather, for example, is on par with Vass.

    so vladimir, i noticed that you did not have those vibram protective soles installed on the bottom of your JR soles (you know, those soles that run from the toe to the waist of the shoe). is there a reason not to? it seems kirby allison also hasn't had this done on any of his shoes and all i wonder is why. i mean why not prolong the life of your soles as much as possible, right?

    • @v_r_
      @v_r_  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What’s up, bro? I’m a big leather soles fan, I think that a topy or a vibram sole takes away from the shoes aesthetically, especially dress shoes like Oxfords, so that’s the reason why I’ll never have them on my dress shoes. I did request them on my next shoe order but that’s only because it’s a split toe derby.

      I just re-read my reply and I sounded like a jerk, my bad. But you’ll notice in a few of my videos and most guys that wear a jacket and when sitting down where there’s bunching in the back or along the shoulder line. The only way to fix that is to constantly adjust your posture or to sit on the jacket as it can’t fall cleanly since I’m not standing straight up. And I don’t always remember to do that. Hope that gives you a better perspective.
