I bought my wife two of these today for her birthday. I must say I've been doing extensive research and you are the most knowledgeable person to explain the care of these flowers!! Very great video!! My wife has now subbed! Thanks for a wonderful learning experience 😁
I am by no means a gardener nor do I have much experience with plants, however, I have decided to start with orchids and just got one of these Guzmania as a gift, so I am looking for information. Your liveliness and very pleasant personality make any plant learning a real pleasure and easy to put into practice as well. Thank you very much! Angela
You're welcome & thank you Angela! You'd might like to refer to the post which goes along with this video: www.joyusgarden.com/guzmania-plant-care-tips/ Nell
JoyUsGarden hello joy my name is Michael could you tell me am I better off removing the pups from the mother plant or can I leave them without causing any damage to the plant.any advice would be much appreciated.cheers
Orchids are great - they bloom annually and we come to expect it. So you can imagine my absolute excitement when my two guzmania pups started to show signs of flowering back in December. The leaves in the center suddenly became a lighter shade of green, and are now turning red. I had no idea what I was doing 3 years ago when I removed and potted the pups, but the wait was worth it. Bromeliads may be my new favorites!
Thank You for this information. I just bought my first Guzmania. What I liked was the red looking flower with white tips only to watch videos that said this is the end of this plants life. What a bummer! Live & Learning!
Oh my goodness I was on Google looking for this information for 20 minutes. I will look for each of my plants on your page to see what else will be so incredibly helpful!!! Thank you soo much!!!
Very informaive - this is my first Guzmania. I didn't know it was an air plant. I have mine on a screened in porch with an eastern exposure. I've only had it a month, but so far, so good. I appreciate your knowledge and detailed explanations. Thankyou!
You are just fabulous. I have been searching for months on how to grow house plants and your videos are always so informative, educational and lively. you let me know exactly what I need to know. Your personality is so great I could listen to you all day. Thanks for all the great information. I was getting so desperate I started to search for growing house plant classes but I do not have to now because I have you! THANK YOU SO MUCH
We love a cat video bomb. Always press the like button for kitties!!! Thank you so much for the info i just adopted 4 of these Guzmanias just like this. Wish me luck
this is the first plant i've taken care of in my room and this was very helpful! i just got it its a really pretty and the pot matches the beautiful fuchsia of the flower! love it!! :D
I didn't realize how easy they are but you've explained to me why they are dying 😔. They are so beautiful! Thanks to you, I know how to care for them now. It's a bummer I killed one.
This is a very resilient plant. I was gifted one about three weeks before a big house move. It looked like it had a fungus, so I isolated, and treated it, fully not expecting for it to survive. It was placed in a not so sunny window and occasionally giving a grow lamp. Come moving day, it was still surviving. Moved to a new place and still isolated in a not so sunny area. It still looked good. I treated it again one time in the new home. Today, I moved it to a sunnier area , close to my other plants. I’m hoping it continues to be better and better.
im so happy to meet ur videos ur making my life mutch easyer i have cactae , succulents and bromelias also and i never before knew how to treat them properly before i saw ur videos
Thank you for the info. I tend to kill plants but my husband surprised me today with this gorgeous plant. I named her Betty, watered her w filtered water and put in a few plant food sticks. Are those ok to give? I got ahead of myself 🤦♀️ hence the reason for killing plants. I will learn from you from this point on. Absolutely love Miss Betty, she's a beaut 🌿
Sweet Kitty! Thank you for the information. Edit: I had to come back at the end of this video and tell you that this video was the most helpful I found.
I really enjoyed your presentation. You have a very nice personality and an excellent teacher. I wouldn't mind sitting in your class and learn the wonders of bromeliads . Thank you for sharing.
I enjoyed and learned some things that I did not know before. It was good to know about the best fertilizer to use. I just used Miracle-Gro on the root system! I should have watched your TH-cam video first!
Hello there, great video but i still have a question. I got a paludarium (vivarium with both land and water) with frogs from someone for free. In there was a bromeliad that was not looking very well at all, but i decided to keep it in there after i did some clean up on the whole tank. After a while i noticed the plant getting better, looking more vibrant and alive, so i was happy. Then suddenly the top leaves started to change into a red flower, so i guess it's a guzmania. My question now : there are now some white 'sticks' in the middle of the flower, are those seedpods and if so, when can i harvest the seeds? (sorry for the language, i'm not an english speaking person...)
can you water the urn and the soil in the same watering? Or should you only do one at a time? I’m just nervous to cause root rot. It’s also interesting you mention only water this plant every few months. I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you!
The thing no one seems to know is if the pups need to be removed at all, and if leaving them on they grow as vigorously as if they are still attached to the mother plant.
I have a plant with Darcennea and Gauzmania. I really want to separate them coz I think my Gauzmania doesn't have much room to grow. It has 4 plants in 1 plant. Any suggestions??
yes, its okay if you put it outside, but since you live in cali and cali is kind of cold during the winter months, you have to take it inside. also make sure to give it a significant amount of water and plant it in the shade (im from south florida btw)
My gazmania plant is like a pinky purple colour i havnt had it long I bought it from a supermarket. If noticed the actual flower is going brown and loosing its colour. What should I do anything or nothing. I'm new to plants and have no knowledge. The leaves are good the odd brown line in them but its the flower. I have mine in the window as my house is pretty dark and I dont have many places to put it. I also give it a little water when the soil is dry. Please can u give me some advice . Thank you
What type of Guzmania is mine? It has a abundance of leaves like yours but their more sharp and the flower on top is purple with white in the middle. And also I can’t really find a tube, I found something that looks like it but I can’t tell.
Hello, I need help with my polka dot plant cutting. I potted it three weeks ago(soil with perlite). She gets plenty of light. I have her in a humidity tray. I noticed she is getting taller but not bushy. How do I make her bushy? She is about 10 cm tall now. She was the only cutting that survived.
I just got my first bromeliad from HD and the green leaves at the bottom are already curling and becoming brown and dry. I did replant it in new potting mix to ensure that it wouldn't get root rot from being over watered in the store. How can I remove the dry leaves?
Hi, my Guzmania plant has started to grow a new small baby on the outer part just beside th root of leaves. What should I do with it? I read somewhere that it can grows a new plant from it, but I am not sure what should I do. Can you pls guide me?
Are there mini bromeliads as mine that I just purchased is only about 5 inches and it does have a red flower, not sure if I should treat it differently... Any advise..
When I lived in Florida I took all my plants for granted , now I live in Georgia struggling to keep all my plants alive including my bromeliad . Any advice to get them to bloom?
Dear Mrs. Foster, Hello! I'm Jackson Miley. I am a subscriber to your channel. Thank-you for doing this awesome series on bromeliads! I love bromeliads as a plant to have inside and outside! I have a request for you. Is it okay if you do a video on orchids? I love orchids! -Thank-you and God bless, Jackson Miley
Hello, i just bought a guzmania white and green leaves and purple flower, can I have its name please if you know it cuz i was not able to find it in google pics. Tx a lot. By the way nice vid.
I bought a flowerpot with 3 Guzmania, one dried off probably because I watered incorrectly and direct sun, one is still looking well but the third one dried at the top. Should I try to separate these two or leave them as they are? I haven’t seen any babies and no idea if they’ve flowered or not
Hi Nell. Love your video. I was just gifted one of these plants. I have a hummingbird garden and my neighbor gave it to me for the garden. Do you know if hummingbirds like these plants? It's a north facing deck. By the way, you are so beautiful. Thanks!
How big of a pot should the guzmania be in? I got mine in a very small pot and it has started producing a pup despite the flower not being open yet. The mother is quite short in comparison to yours in the video. Is it possible the pot is too small and preventing taller, larger growth? Or is it not enough sun. It seems to be doing well, otherwise.
i’ve been taking care of mine for 6 months and she had 3 scars that have been with her since i bought her, some of her leaves were cut out because her children were too close to her and like 2 or 1 leave were cut in half by accident from the pups both, mine is green but i don’t think she seems fine even though she’s alright, she stopped growing a while ago, she usually used to grow very quickly
I have a couple of questions for you but I have one important question I don't know how to say the name of that plant that you're talkin about however it keeps leaning to the left is it supposed to do that I'm sorry I have it indoors by the window
I put my guzmania near my air conditioner and it did not seem to enjoy that... the flower started turning brown and drying up :( But then again I had it as a flower since March (4 months), maybe it was its natural dying cycle? But weird coincidence that it was after about 1-2 weeks of A/C exposure...
Hey there been watching your videos just realized you live in Santa Barbara? I do too, on the corner of bath and mission. Anyways I'm getting ready to set up a vivarium for dart frogs. And I am trying to learn about the plants that I am going to be adding to the ecosystem bromeliads being one of them. I was wondering if you have any pointers on miniatures or dwarf bromeliads and dwarf orchids? And where would be a good place to go shopping here in town. Summerland at the orchid farm?
I noticed that in plant departments Like Home Depot and others they have bromeliads in these sort of self-watering pots with soil that holds moisture and it is always very soggy. I never had luck with bromeliads because of the misinformation online. Some people say keep the cup at the very top full as well as the soil others say only keep water in the top cup and do not water the soil, but your instruction is to water it very little without fertilizer into the base. There is another bromeliad that is very attractive called I believe a dragon's tongue? For my orchids I am using this coarse coconut fiber which seems to work well. What is your advice on a plant called a Tillandsia pink quill Cyanacea? These keep dying on me also.
please can you make a video on a guzmania spring plant? there only seems to be on video on youtube for this plant :) i just bought one because they look pretty crazy but i dont know how to look after one

I've had a bromeliad for about 3 years, it had a beautiful red flower, which dies 2 years ago and it never cane back. However, I do have quite a few pups, is it possible I may get it flowering again?

Did you clip the leaves into that pointy shape or did they do that naturally?
I really enjoyed your presentation. You have a very nice personality and an excellent teacher. I wouldn't mind sitting in your class and learn the wonders of bromeliads . Thank you for sharing.

Bought this plant about a year ago, didn't flower doesn't produce any new leaves. Wonder if I should cut it down, and repot it.

I live in California and this is my new plant, is it ok if I put it outside

Hello Nel, mine has three yellowing leaves. It's in an east window, I thought tucked back a bit... any ideas?
A lot of things I've read have mentioned draining the tank. How would you do this with a Guzmania? Or do you need to?
Hello Nell! I have a lot of Guzmania Bromeliads but not one of them have bloomed for years now and I have no idea why. Any insight please? 😄

Can I revive it when the root is rotten and dry 😢

Wonderful wonderful wonderful thank you very much
This was helpful ❤
Very informative 🙃 likes and subscribed! 😆
My flower is totally dry schould I cut it? The leaves are very green.. but the flower is dead... Thanks
please can you make a video on a guzmania spring plant? there only seems to be on video on youtube for this plant :)
i just bought one because they look pretty crazy but i dont know how to look after one
Hi - You would take care of a Guzmania "Spring" the same way you take care of this guzmania. Nell
My apartment only has south facing windows. What can I do for my Guzmania plant so it gets enough light? I live in a zone 9
get another house
Provide artificial lights.
put them further away from the window, so they get less light or use blinds to reduce the light intensity
Three years to bloom ?
How about the carnivorous bromeliads?
How do I remove the flower that has dried out?
How long does bromeliad last
Hi! I have two guzmania pups I have repotted but the leaves have started to curl into their own middle. Why is that? Not enough water?
Too much sunlight and not enough water...
I've been giving water to the bottom so apparently I'm dining it wrong. The leaves and blossoms are fading
My Guzmania has died can I revive it please thanks
how often do you water the guzmania
No one ever says where the seeds grow cause mine was outside all summer with a bunch of other guzmanias so I'm 99% sure the bees did they're job but idk where the seeds are
My Bromeliad is drying at the bottom, what am I doing wrong?
Thank you
That’s rot. Water only when medium is dry. Best medium for bromeliads is orchid mix.
Hello, I have a question, maybe someone can help me here. I have a veranda south so my guzmania has been there since we bought it. There is no direct sunlight but is is very very bright there but also very hot (normally around 33 degrees celsius). So now I'm wondering if it would be better to put it inside, there is still much light but it is not that hot. As I read the temperature should be around 20 degrees celsius I'm not sure what to do. I actually think the plant is happy there but maybe I'm wrong. Thanks for your help
As long as the sun doesn’t shine directly on it, it’s fine.
Lord I wish I watched this before trying to care for my baby. The main flower is turning brown on me. My poor Stacey 😭. But at least I know now how to care for her. 💜
I've had a bromeliad for about 3 years, it had a beautiful red flower, which dies 2 years ago and it never cane back. However, I do have quite a few pups, is it possible I may get it flowering again?
Theresa they only flower once. Then they produce pups that you can repot. These will eventually flower and rinse and repeat. :)
Thank you
I just bought one from WALMART!
I love the cat! Meow! 🦎
Can the bulb be stoed
