Great video! I started painting boards during the covid lockdown and simply couldn't find videos on the supplies so I ended up using enamel paint which was a disaster! THIS is the video I wish I had last year! Cheers!
@@BendheimBoards Still awesome though🤙🏻 I’m acually thinking about buying a cheap beat up board and fixing it up to put my own design and colors on the thing. I’ve been checking out your videos and it’s very impressive the stuff you do. It’ll be my first time but looking forward to the challenge and exploring this “art” if you could call it that
Hello! im about to paint my twin fin and was wondering if you could tell me on average how much layers of paint do i need to use to get it uniform and if it has to dry in between layers. Same with the sealer. It'd be great if you see this. Love your work!
Hey man, just let the spray paint dry between coats. I’d give it a few hours. At least 2 clear coats but it’s up to you. Give it a day before you wax it up and take it out. Good luck!
Hey Bendheim, Loving your videos, they help me a lot in the shaping process!! Could I substitute the Acrylic sealer with a layer of hot coat and use the spray in-between the lamination and the hot coat??
Hi great vid, I have done a few boards using this method, but sometimes I get a slight paint bleed under the sides of the tape? do you have any suggestions as to avoiding this?
Hi! i have a question, what happen when you sand the table with the sandpaper? That´s only to remove the old varnish?, and does it damage the table?? (I´m spanish, sorry if i did say something wrong)
Aloha! Just started painting boards and I have one that resin isn’t an option for so I’m going to have to spray the top coat, The brand you used is the one I’ve been looking at but I was wondering do you have a review for how it holds up after use? Any blooming/cracking? Is it clear or cloudy? Has it chipped and affected the paint underneath? Does it hold up in the sun? I live in Hawaii and the board I’m painting is going to someone who will be using it everyday and I don’t want to mess the board up
So far so good. it’s clear and no issues with cracking. I rotate my boards so it’s not being used every day or sitting in the sun so I can’t give feedback on that. As long as you prep the board by sanding and cleaning and then seal the paint with a clear coat it should hold up.
Hey, I love the way this turned out! Has the wax been sticking to your board well, and has the paint started to come off or chip? I want to paint my surfboard before summer but I don’t want the paint to come off or the wax to not stick.
Haven’t had any of those issues and the wax sticks the same as any board. As long as you sand the board before you paint, it will adhere well and the clear seal coat will help it last. Also use water based spray paint. 🤙
Do you have any videos on how to remove old spray job , just bought a second hand board with home spray job and thinking I would like to take it back to original . Cheers
This is awesome. I’m looking to jazz up my longboard. One question…Is there not a step where the newly painted edge meets the original surface? Or does the clear coat level it out? Cheers! 🤙
Another great video! Thanks! Here’s a question for you. I’ve got a shaped blank that I’m about to glass. Could I Poska pen the stringer black before glassing? Do you think that would work to give the effect of a black stringer? Or does Poska and resin not mix well?
I noticed that the existing black on the board bled through the new paint. Is this because the Liquitex paint color that you used is fluorescent? Will the bleed through still happen with non fluorescent paint from Liquitex?
Hey man great vids man. Hey what are the dimensions of your greenhouse and what brand? Looking to do something like this for dust control. Great idea by the way.
Dull a single edge razor blade on flat cement.Tape non cutting side .Take wax off clean. More strokes less residue .Those plastic wax combs are shiyte Use less wax remover and gets into the bumps on the deck.
Nice, however I’d use an acrylic paint pen over the Posca paint pens. Posca can be streaky over the Liquitex acrylic spray paint because Posca is water based. I’ve used both together in my artwork and have run into that problem from time to time.
Hi there just doing the same but I’m wondering how long does the acrylic varnish last plz ? It’s looks way thinner and weak than the resin and I’m a bit scared of losing my art work .. thank you for your vdo dude
sup dude great video :)). I got a few questions regarding spray paints. Can I use regular mtn 94 spray paints or it has to be an acrylic spray paint? And does the paint come off when you remove the paraffin with the plastic remover?
Thanks man. I’m not familiar with mtn 94 but acrylic is always better than oil based spray paints for surfboards. Oil spray paints won’t last as long and can crack. Acrylic also works with surfboard resins if you spray onto the foam. If you seal your spray paint with a clear coat then you won’t have problems with it scrapping off when you remove the wax. I haven’t had any issues.
I use the high quality automotive tape for my glassing jobs but for these spray paint designs I’ve just been using commercial grade masking tape and haven’t had any bleed through problems. No need to use the expensive stuff if you don’t have to. 🤙
@@BendheimBoards but it's not all that expensive now with the competitive net sites and apps. I mean, i say that about proper decorator's tape but i used to regularly use ordinary masking for years on paintings that i did, without much bleed, but i had to search high and low to find the right stuff, and even then when i found the stuff that worked its storing it that's another problem, temperature and humidity affects its usage too, so i just stick to decorator's tape for ease. You still got a great result out of it though bro 👍
Great video! Love how you have added subtitles on this one to explain what you’re doing with a bit more detail, thank you!
Thanks appreciate the feedback 🤙

Do you know of any significant differences in painting a SUP?
Same process, just a larger canvas 🤙

Not sure, I’ve only done this on my own boards

Nice setup! What kind of material did you use to cover your paint booth/hoop house?
If your referring to the greenhouse, I purchased it on Amazon. I’ve got a video walkthrough with links

Hi! i have a question, what happen when you sand the table with the sandpaper? That´s only to remove the old varnish?, and does it damage the table??

You sand the surfboard so the spray paint will adhere to the board, otherwise you won’t get a good bond. It doesn’t damage it at all
@@BendheimBoards Thanks!
Nice clip! Do u still need to sand it even if it is a brand new board?
Thanks, yes you do otherwise the paint won’t stick
Very Nice !! Do you know how long it would last ?? (Like months or years ?) 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks! I did one a couple years ago that’s held up great.
Awesome ty 🔥
does the clear acrylic last or does it flake off?
Still holding strong

Any recommendations on getting the paint to not run?
Thin coats
Do you have any videos on how to remove old spray job , just bought a second hand board with home spray job and thinking I would like to take it back to original . Cheers
Check out my ding repair video, I show a little of it. I used sandpaper and acetone to remove the paint.
Is there a need for Acrylic sealer if you working with a Matte spray?
Yes you should still spray a clear coat over it to protect the paint
This is awesome. I’m looking to jazz up my longboard. One question…Is there not a step where the newly painted edge meets the original surface? Or does the clear coat level it out? Cheers! 🤙
Could you tell me which respirator and cartridges you use for glassing/sanding/shaping?
Great job
How i buy surf bord
This is just a hobby so I don’t sell boards 🤙
Another great video! Thanks!
Here’s a question for you. I’ve got a shaped blank that I’m about to glass. Could I Poska pen the stringer black before glassing? Do you think that would work to give the effect of a black stringer? Or does Poska and resin not mix well?
Yeah man, posca paint pens are water based so you can write directly on the foam or stringer before glassing with no issues 🤙
@@BendheimBoards Awesome, thanks!
Question, my mom has acetone, pure acetone but it’s labeled as nail polish remover, can I use that?
Probably. Never tried it but as long as it’s pure acetone I would think so.
I noticed that the existing black on the board bled through the new paint. Is this because the Liquitex paint color that you used is fluorescent? Will the bleed through still happen with non fluorescent paint from Liquitex?
It's possible to paint the surfboard after glassing ??
Thats what this video is
How well has the paint stood us with the wax and regular use?
So far great!
still good? :)
@@quimlima Yes, watch my video at surf ranch. I used this board.
Can I paint magnetic primer then chalkboard paint on my surfboard?

It’s 12 x 7 x 7. Not sure on the brand but I got it on Amazon for a little over $100. 🤙
Classe A...✌✌✌🇧🇷

Great video, one question though: why do you tape the pad when applying clear coat?
Thanks man. The pad would end up sticky or the paint would crack on it.
Can I use PPG Automotive base coat n clear coat on a Board?? Would it effect the board?
Is that just masking paper you use to cover board from paint?
Commercial grade masking tape and paper.
can u use any spray paint or is there a special one
Dull a single edge razor blade on flat cement.Tape non cutting side .Take wax off clean. More strokes less residue .Those plastic wax combs are shiyte Use less wax remover and gets into the bumps on the deck.
Hey man! One question. Did you sand it after applying the glass coat or is it to risky the colour scraps of?
Nope, just left it to keep the gloss finish
Okay nice thanks!
esta bueno
Did you spray all the deck with the clear coat or only the parts you painted?
Mostly just the area I painted and a little around it to blend into the board
@@BendheimBoards Thanks a lot for the answer!! Keep the good videos coming! :)
You bet!

Yup, the gloss coat seals the paint with no issues

Does it work on foamies
Can I paint a soft top surfboard?
Never tried it but I saw someone else post a TH-cam video on doing one so do some digging and you might find it.
How much does it add to the weight of the board?
Not enough to tell any difference. Can’t notice it at all.
super not high performance brah
Sick
Looks really similar to Matt Hoy's old air brush. Why not just airbrush it instead of use paint? People still do custom airbrush right?
They do, I just don’t have one. Planning to get one soon though.
