  • 4xiDraw is a clone of the famous Axidraw. It's a plotter to draw.
    Use an "Arduino Uno" control card and a "CNC Shield" card.
    In this video we will build one. We will see the list of components, hardware assembly, wiring harness and the Software part ... Up to the Drawing.
    Using the "Inkscape" vector graphics program along with a special "plug in", you can create several G-Code files, starting with a drawing. Universal G-code Sender (Java) will do the rest.

    Hello sir, I have made the same machine as a project and is working perfectly. The only thing is that it only draws the outline of the image or text uploaded. It does not fill enclosed figures as the image originally is....How to do the same....Please help...!!!

    • @TheMiguelBi
      @TheMiguelBi  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hi Pranit Kubal,
      There are several methods for filling. The first is to make a scribble inside, the second method instead draws the same outline, smaller and smaller inside, to fill the whole area.
      I can not explain the various methods well, I do not know English well. But I can attach 2 videos that show these 2 methods.
      I hope I have been equally helpful.
      - Methods 1: th-cam.com/video/oLepnfZYlOo/w-d-xo.html
      - Methods 2: th-cam.com/video/_WcNc9wQyXM/w-d-xo.html
      none of the 2 videos is in English. But looking at it several times, you should be able to replicate the same steps. (I did so too!).
      Bye

    Great job Miguel, i have just ended the assemble of your version of the axidraw. i'm in trouble with the servo, i send the M03 S255 command and the servo only sound a high note, and don't move. my servo it's mg90s, and doing a previous test with the servo library of arduino it works fine. i think is a problema with e right frequency of the modulation. thanks for your support

    • @TheMiguelBi
      @TheMiguelBi  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello dmainero88. The M03 S255 command I think is exaggerated. In my normal use, the down position corresponds to M03 S0, while the top position corresponds to the M03 S30 command!
      With higher movements to M03 S30 you will need to manually add a delay, otherwise the pen will move without touching the sheet. Otherwise, the alternative will be very very slow XY moving times.
      Do you still think your problem is the servo limit switch, at the time of assembly it was centrally located?
      Without electric current, can you manually move the "pen block" up and down?

    Hello, your content helped me a lot but I have some doubts. of the two motors, which is for the "x" axis and "y" axis. each motor has 4 wires of different colors, how to know which wire color is connected to the driver boards at "x", "y". In the calibration you only use the command for the "x" axis which is $100= 80, but you don't use for the "y" axis $101= ?. Thank you
    I wait your answer.

    How is the "string" connected? (from motor to motor, and in the middle). Cause in the video I couldn't see how you did this

    • @TheMiguelBi
      @TheMiguelBi  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Fabian,
      It's easy!
      Look here: goo.gl/Y5dwMH
      Press over the center piece with the right mouse button and click "hide". Now look at the intrigue of the belt.
      The belt should only be attached to the opposite side of the pen.
      6:24 You have to make a "cross" with the Belt.

    • @TheMiguelBi
      @TheMiguelBi  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Praveen Rock,
      The 2 engines always work together in all directions. They turn synchronized towards the same direction to move an axis back and forth, while they rotate oppoistently to move the remaining axis. Search for "CoreXY" to understand the mechanism well.
      Check your GRBL values! Surely there is something wrong set.
      Are the wiring of the A and B coils of the 2 motors correct?

    Some of the Items listed in the description are different from the items mentioned on you instructables page. ( Pulley 16 Teeth on TH-cam, 20 Teeth on Page). Which one should we follow? The youtube description or the Instructables page? Also some of the items are different like the rods are a bit longer and the nema 17 stepper is a bit different ( 1.5 A instead of 1.7 A ). Is that okay or will that affect everything?

    • @TheMiguelBi
      @TheMiguelBi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ahmed Safeer ,
      Even cars go ahead, but they are made of similar but different components!
      Each choice is to be adjusted in the software. There is no right or wrong, everyone buys what they want.
      The engines will be controlled by stepper drivers. If you buy 1.5A you will have to set them with a Vref of a certain value, for 1.7A motors you will set them to another value.
      Let's talk about Arduino! We cannot want to do certain things, avoiding knowing the base!

    • @TheMiguelBi
      @TheMiguelBi  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to calculate that! Vref values depend on the type of engines you are using.
      In my video (in Italian) you can find answers th-cam.com/video/wpUMptJo-xs/w-d-xo.html.

    • @TheMiguelBi
      @TheMiguelBi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Eric Caston LeLaurain,
      Check how the two engines respond when you give a movement command.
      X axis movements the two motors must turn synchronized, while movements in the other axis the motors must turn in opposite way.
      Does this happen or not? If the answer is no, you have not set the movement as "coreXY", but as a Cartesian. You need to review the GRBL settings by typing $$.

    • @ericcastorlelaurain1970
      @ericcastorlelaurain1970 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheMiguelBi Thank you , you have probabely right , but unfortunally, I cannot see this alernative . It is really into G-code sender ? After $$ typing I cannot acceed to this choice : Cartesian/CoreXY where is my mistake ? ;-)

    • @TheMiguelBi
      @TheMiguelBi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      At the moment I do not remember, but it should be among the GRBL variables.
      Do something like this:
      Rotate 180° 1 only block a motor (4pins) on the CNC shield board, the one you prefer, and see what happens. ;)

      Hi William Nguyen,
      No, I do not think it's a good idea. The extending arm would have too many fluctuations.
      You can make the X axis bigger, but the Y axis where the pen is connected, no!
      You can always do a test, but at your own risk! ;)

      Hi Ricko Arthadinata ,
      It depends on which engines have been used by you. my engines are almost 2A each. In fact, I have a 12v 6a power supply. If your engines are 12v 0.4A, it may be that the 2A power supply is sufficient. Hello

    • @TheMiguelBi
      @TheMiguelBi  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the A4988 drivers are set via a voltage value (Vref) that depends only on the motors you use.
      The power supply must be sufficiently good based on the hardware it needs to power.
      A 2-amp feeder is a bit too limited. Better a 5A!

    • @TheMiguelBi
      @TheMiguelBi  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rudraksh Agrawal,

    • @TheMiguelBi
      @TheMiguelBi  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You did not understand. The name "Nema 17" does not mean anything!
      There are 2V and 3A motors and 12V 0,4A motors. VRef is not equal !!!
      Also, to calculate it you have to read the sensitivity resistance value of your pololu.
      Search for a video on your language on TH-cam ... so avoid burning it all !!!

    • @TheMiguelBi
      @TheMiguelBi  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi sourav jain ,
      Mmmm .... DO NOT have to insert with powered arduino / CNC Shield!
      Surely the problem is a damaged driver. Try entering one at a time, and then only connect to the arduino.
      For testing it is not necessary to feed the CNC shield. The power only serves to physically move the engines.

      Hi BlackGeare,
      For the 3 jumpers is correct, the software is configured for 1/16 of steps, so 3 jumpers is fine.
      As for the servo motor, have you tried rotating it with your hand while it is disconnected? Rotate normally? Perform the tests leaving it in the central position, not at the end of the stroke. Connect GND and 5V, while the Orange cable must be connected in "Z +". Let me know!

      Hi Mehmet ÇOBAN,
      osoyoo.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Arduino-CNC-Shield-V3-Layout.png
      here it says power from 12v to 36v. 19v are not many more .... but I can not give you any confirmation. For the servo motor you must connect the positive cnc shield with arduino. Giving arduino 19v is not a good thing in my opinion...

    • @TheMiguelBi
      @TheMiguelBi  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rather you buy a 12v 3A power supply that are much cheaper!
      So there is no risk of burning everything!

      @mehmetcoban7745 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      thank you for your prompt response. You’re right, to avoid risk, I buy a 12v one. But also I saw that same type of step motors are run from 12v-1a to 12v-10a. Isn’t current level important to run. Also can servo motors be run like that?

    • @TheMiguelBi
      @TheMiguelBi  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the servomotor works only at 5V, and it is powered by Arduino. The problem of the higher voltage, in my opinion, is arduino overheating.

    • @TheMiguelBi
      @TheMiguelBi  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Klang,
      First you have to test with the disconnected and steering servo motor. You have to understand if the servomotor moves during the program or not. It may be that the movements are in the opposite and then vibrate because it came to an end ...

      TheMiguelBi I have already tested the servo and it doesnt move

    • @TheMiguelBi

      If the servo does not move, it may be connected to the wrong arduino pin. If the software is not the same as the video, output pins could be changed. or the servomotor may be damaged.

      Hi atmakuri ganesh,
      0:50 This is the store where I bought it.
      Otherwise you will find all the necessary parts in the description, including the .STL files to print the parts in 3D.

      Do you mean in "file mode" when trying to send a .gcode file?
      I have no idea what this mistake may be. Try creating another gcode with a different image.

      This project is to be built in assembly kits. Find the Material List here: www.instructables.com/id/4xiDraw/
      In the video description there is a list of components with a purchase link.
      Or you can find the kit in this store (Spain): store.thingibox.com/en/4xidraw/198-axidraw_vitamins.html Caution. In this latest kit something is different.

      Hi Ruzty Jasper, The threaded bars are of different diameters.
      Thingibox ships 8mm. The .STL pieces are for 10mm bars.
      Greater bars are better because they increase stability during printing.
      I bought 10mm bars in a hardware store near home. They cost a little money.

      Yes, the only difference is that.
      The motors consume and heat less when purchased at 12v - 0.4A. So you can use a cheaper 3-4A 12v power supply! ;)
      (Thingibox ships 1.7A motors, which is why the power supply is from 6A. Almost exaggerated!)
      N.B. The link "power supply" reports a 12v - 6A. You do not need all this power!

      Hi Chakko K.J ,
      In the description of the video you will find the .STL files in 3D.
      Just have the desire to open them with any Cad 3D. (Tinkercad is free).
