    Bird liked one steal having a quadruple double in the 3rd quarter. He said he'd done enough damage and sat down. They asked him if he wanted to go back in, but the stats just weren't as big a deal back then. Bird could have probably scored 60 every night, but he wasn't selfish. It was really something to watch back in the day.

    Remember, this whole video is the story of only ONE game! Larry had a LOT of crazy games, many of them with great back stories, like this one. What a time it was to be a fan, what a ride he took us on!

    Bird was officially listed at 6'9" but a whole bunch of players say he was definitely 6'10". Magic is listed at 6'9" but Bird is taller than Magic, as you can see whenever they're next to one another.

    What I enjoy about 80's NBA is it was a show and no matter if you win or loose everybody had fun- the fans, the couches and the players.Respect for life for all NBA of that era.

    Enjoyed your reaction 😊 For me Larry Bird's trash talking, either broke a player down, or forced an opponent to be a better player, & it was the strength of the player, which way they were affected.......that was just a part of who Bird was 😊

    The best way for Larry to play was to allow the flow to take him and work with it. It was so natural for him that his brain would get in the way if he thought about the game.

  • @robinmahan8814

    I don't know why his sheet says 6'9, because he was taller than any other 6'9 player. I believe he was a good 6'10. Some agree.

      Larry is taller than Magic...I don't remember exactly the reasoning behind it...something to do with making them seem more equal as players.

  • @rogerahier4750
    @rogerahier4750 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Yeah, you notice they were not doing any stat padding. Bird took himself out of a game for the entire 4th quarter needing only 1 steal for a quadruple double. When they asked him why he didn't go for he said he already did enough damage.
    He was listed at 6'9", but it was probably 6'9.9". Magic is 6'9" and Bird is taller than him.

    61% from the field, 15 of16 free throws, only one three pointer."Rainbow - trainers lap" to the Hawks bench and does it. I cant blame them for their reaction. Ive watched the NBA since 1972. Ive never seen another opposing bench ever do anything like that.

    Larry was listed as 6’9” - but general consensus was that he was bigger. If not *exactly* 6’10”, he was very close - what was called a BIG 6’9”
    at the time, heights were generally expressed in whole numbers in the inch line, and were sometimes fudged a bit.
    Example : Bill Walton was listed as 6’11” but was probably closer to 7’1” - why ? Because HE didn’t *want* to be called a 7 footer. Yet he was actually visibly a bit taller than 7’0” Robert “The Chief” Parish.
    Also, these guys were usually listed by their college height - and there were inconsistencies in whether this school measured them barefoot, or that school measured them with shoes on.

  • @stevep2380
    @stevep2380 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Those guys didn't really care about anything other than winning. Larry didn't go back into a game to get a quadruple double because they were up by so much in another game.

    McHale took himself out because he wasn't worried about individual stats and accomplishments. It was about winning and even though Bird gave him a hard time about it, it was as a joke. That entire team was about winning which is why they are regarded as one of the best teams in NBA history. (and McHale probably didn't believe Legend would top it anyway ....LOL) Lesson learned as he even talked trash to his teammates.

  • @ejentabi
    @ejentabi 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That is the mentality difference, it was all about winning, not about the stats. Bird is 1 steal away from Quadruple double in first 3 quarters and he sat out the whole 4th qtr. Coach asked if he wanna make history, Bird replied that he had done enough damages. So what do you think if it happens in Today's NBA? The player may literally go to ask opponent's coach to let him get 1 more steal.

    😂I think that there are more than one goats. Larry is usually my favorite. Sometimes Michael. And there are others. But what I came in here to say is the one thing that makes me mad about Larry. He said if I ever get that hot I'm not coming out of the game. So why then did he take himself out of the whole 4th quarter 1 steal shy of a quadruple double? I really wish he didn't do that. Just me being a selfish Bird fan I guess. But man that would have looked good on his career stats.

  • @harlanginsberg7269
    @harlanginsberg7269 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The reason Kevin McHale stopped is because unlike you obviously , he realizes that basketball is a team sport and all that matters is that your team wins. They were up plenty why should one of your key players continue to play when the game is already over. Kevin Mchale could care less how many points he scored. He just did what was needed for his team to win. Not so different from JoKic today. Funny thing, players who think that way tend to win a lot.
