@Rensi these brothers (Ron / Bobby Jarzombek) have a single purpose in life, and that is to reach illumination through their music. It's out of this world, lol.
I was recently introduced to this band through videos I ran across after hearing how great Tomas is (Bleed - Official Video and the live versions out there focused on Tomas) so I haven't got as far as buying their catalog. 60 year old metalhead, here, and I'm expanding my djent horizons. Would you recommend starting listening to and appreciating them from their beginnings in 1999 (?) or ?
metalheadblues he mentioned it in a podcast episode how he saw them live and it blew his fucking mind. But now I can’t hear Bleed anymore without hearing Bill’s voice going PRRTAPRRTAPRRTAPRRTA as he described it
@@metalheadblues metalheadblues I don't think so. I'm pretty sure what he said was he wanted to get his bass pedal foot as fast as Bonham's but he strained a ligament in his foot. Then went on to say how impressed he was at Haake's speed on bass.
I think more people needs to start listening to meshuggah's very first albums, they are so underrated in their discography, especially Contradictions Collapse
I do, because the first thing I do when I hear a song I love is pick apart what each instrument is doing. I used to think that that was just what people did, but I've been told otherwise, and can definitely recommend it :)
Yea, I think he's a large force in that band, also very involved in artwork, and the one doing the most interviews in the recent years. Lookin forward to what's coming next from Meshuggah!!!
Absolute monster of a player. Underrated too imo, since he hasn’t really made a big career for himself as just a drummer, rather he’s just focused on the band. And he’s still getting better and better each record they release. TVSOR was seriously groundbreaking drumming.
I got a stick from him at the 25 years of deviance tour in SF, my prized possession! 🤘😝🤘 and probably one of the most meaningful concerts I’ve ever been to, NEVER thought I’d see those songs live, bucket list stuff!
And here I just assumed all the other entries in this series were intended to mean "10 Times Another Drummer Very Briefly Surpassed Tomas Haake as the Best Drummer on Earth"
Always love for the human drum machine (gene hoglan). Laser cannon death sentence - dethklok is drumming on a whole new level. Hes my favorite drummer. He even has his own blast beat. The hoglan blast.
10 out of 10 times. Humble, Brilliant, Gifted and always on the cutting edge of insanity. There will only be one. He is my drumming hero. An absolute legend.
Has anyone ever heard that one part in Dancers to a Discordant System when he plays what I think is the hardest part he’s ever played? It starts at four minutes ten seconds and ends at four minutes forty seconds. He is still playing the snare on 3 in a 4/4 beat but no other limb is playing the quarter notes (rhythm). It’s really hard to do. In fact you might think he’s just arbitrarily playing the snare but he’s still playing the rhythm of the previous part.
The coolest thing about Tomas is that he's crazy ass beats has a lot of groove to them. Compare with Thomas Lang or Mangini. They have all the skills but no groove. Just my two cents :)
Exactly! It's still easy to Bob your head and grove while listening to meshugga even though they are extremely complicated. Thomas Haake is my new favorite drummer.
If you enjoy Tomas Haake's playing, I highly recommend the following drum parts from the following songs on the "Destroy Erase Improve" album: "Soul Burn": 2:18 - 3:26; "Inside What's Within Behind": 3:22 - 4:30; "Sublevels": 3:50 - 5:14. They are some of my favourite pieces of drumming of all time.
I would love to see a drum battle between Tomas Haake and Danny Carey. Doesn't matter who the better drummer is. The real winner will be everyone who would get to witness it. Especially in person.
They are completely opposite drummers, Haake sounds like a machine, Carey sounds like a titan beating the drums playing crazy stuff, but the result could actually be awesome. The world would probably collapse if the two actually met.
WAS? nah buddy. He STILL IS the best drummer on earth. The stuff he does and the riffs he comes up with is unheard of by another drummer on this planet, past and present.
What Thomas Haake did were only 2 things, keeping the tempo and keeping the time signature, which a fundamental and hardest part of a drummer's job description
Well, is it really about him beeing the best drummer of the world? Even not defining what makes the best drummer? Is it precision, creativity or perfect technique? Is it beeing great in different music genres? He for sure has a nearly perfect precision even playing complex rhythms in high speed. It's a great pleasure to watch him play, his footwork, his coordination and even more: It's an even greater pleasure to hear this extraordinary precision in combination with the guitar sounds. I don't know if he's the greatest drummer on earth but surely he is one of the greatest drummers on earth.
I was really hoping with all my heart that there would be obscure clips on here that I hadn't watch 1,000 times each already, but this is a great video nonetheless!
His rhythm abilities and freedom of movement between his limbs is just ridiculous. I understand the beats in my mind but to get my body to play them is a whole other situation.
I absolutely love the groove and feel about Haake’s playing. Not just hitting the shit out of drums it always has those little dinamics that is not really associated with metal drumming
@@nostrum7278Even as a guitarist I'd also say clockworks is harder as well. You really just need the stamina, endurance and memory to do Bleed. (and I'm not saying Bleed isnt incredibly difficult) but clockworks rhythms and complex riffs to me are a lot harder than bleed. Because I can play small parts of Bleed but clockworks I barely touch.
The reason he’s one of the best isn’t cause he so flashy like other drummers, but it’s because his knowledge of timing is second to none.
Weird phrasing, but yes.
second to Bobby Jarzombek, but that's because that man is an alien

Loved seeing them all on stage, head banging to 3 different rhythms
Same, that's one of the best part about them. But sadly, they don't headbang in live shows anymore and Lövgren cut his hair.
And they're all in sync to the rythm
This is by far my favorite comment on TH-cam
And none of them are off time
Soon as the video started and saw the first part I immediately started to look for this comment🤣
Good to hear a bunch of Meshuggah songs that aren't Bleed.
