Interesting. I got a newer Thinkpad carrying an AMD CPU with Radeon 680M iGPU. It runs Elite Dangerous at around 60FPS at 1080p median setting and anti alising turned off. Guess I don't need an eGPU for now.
id like to do an egpu on my x1 carbon but the price is pretty high. Thinking of just getting an optiplex or similar desktop and putting a graphics card in it
its an investment, its a case of whether u need it for ur workflow
I dont need it. Integrated graphics work great for everything I do. And i have a series S xbox so i'd need a pretty expensive card to top that. I'd like to play CS2 is the only thing but its not worth the price only for that. I'd love to have one just to tinker with @@TechDave
Is there a big difference in gpu speed between external gpu and a pc build?
Sorry if that doesn’t make sense I suck at English
Ur English is great! There's somewhere in the region of 15-20% lower performance but this can be improved with an nvidia gpu, and various drivers optimisations
@@TechDavethank you for the response
I might try dedicating some money to a similar setup
My laptop is t480s, im planning to build egpu with same dock. Between RTX 2060 super vs RX 6600 XT, what would you reckon? In term of performance loss
on average its 15-20% loss, but in terms of improving the performance of the laptop, its such a huge improvement, that u wud only notice the loss with a side by side desktop comparison. re: nvidia vs amd, i prefer amd for price to performance ratio, but nvidia always win out with eGPUs as their drivers/bandwidth management are miles ahead. if u use an external moniotr with AMD card, ur good to go, if u want to use eGPU without external monitor, nvidia are the way to go. good luck with your build! x
@@TechDave that's good advice consider nvidia is an old player in the gpu market, thanks bro.
You have to make it so I can listen to these with both my ears.
Ye I need to work out a proper mic solution, just using phone camera/mic atm
@@TechDavenot sure what he/she was listening with but I got both ears the whole video lol
@ebaylover24 that's a relief, thanks for letting me know
