    Compressed air (I personally use a blower with a small rubber tip), vaccum, drill brush with shampoo, use the blower again to dry and lift out whats left, then vaccum. Steamers are great on plastics and troublesome stains, but not for the whole carpet. I add a little disinfectant to the steamer tank to make it more efficient and eliminate chances of mold and mildew.

      Tornador / vortex tool if your compressor can handle it. It'll blast dirt and gravel away like no other. Same process as above

      @@csskiller tornadors are messy, require larger compressors for continuous air, and really won't do anything extra a drill brush, vaccum, a blower, and a steamer will handle. And you need all the other stuff anyway, why bring unnecessary equipment? Yes, there is a vaccum attachment for the tornador, but they are bulky and awkward, and have difficulty getting into small spaces. I've owned a couple tornadors and I regret the purchases.

      What kind of disinfectant should I put into my steamer chamber?

    • @justinrounds517
      @justinrounds517 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LaRoseDetails I use a concentrate called sentinel II, it's hospital grade, and i think it only comes by the gallon. I used a lot more of this around the house during covid. I usually dilute it to about 10% for normal use (higher concentration for more involved work). makes 1 gallon last a really long time. Depending on the size of your reservoir it's usually about an ounce. Adding too much will cause the steam to sputter since the disinfectant raises the boiling point just a bit. Once you find the sweet spot it works great, and will actually keep the steamer clean a lot longer. I usually descale it every couple months, but I use it a couple hours almost every day.

    Pro tip with your steamer! Don’t work on the carpet in one spot for too long, as you can tell he burnt the carpet. Always have a barrier on your head of the steamer like a microfibre. That way the microfibre takes the beating!!!!!

    If you are doing detailing for a living PLEASE, when using cleaning spray bottles,WEAR A MASK.
    An N95 is fine.
    Those vapors do hang around in the air longer than you think. (spray some in the air when in direct sun to see)
    Wearing a mask will cut down on exposure to inhaled chemicals.
    Long term that stuff can mess with your lungs. Professional carpet cleaners have a higher rate of certain cancers when compared to other occupations because of the repetitive chemical exposure.

    Nice tips, but to me it would be easier just to thoroughly vacuum, pre-spot and pre-treat then go over with an extractor. Of course the extractor would be equipped with a crevice tool. I've dealt with this carpet (it's actually a felt) and that tends to work for me. I also use power nozzles on my vacuum, less effort needed. The car I detail though is my Mom's every year as a Mother's day present.

    A lot of what Wilson said makes a lot of sense and this is great advice (thanks!). However, each carpet stain is different and each detailing job is different and there are a bunch of different ways to clean carpets. There is no cure-all for carpet stains - not only for the impossible carpet! In most cases, I prefer to vacuum, drench the carpet with water, extract the water, dry, use a fabric deodorizer, let dry and always come out with beautiful, clean carpets that look like new! Thanks again!

    THANK YOU! I had never tried cleaning this type of carpet until yesterday (2019 Nissan Rogue Sport). Before then, I never knew this hateful stuff existed. Whoever came up with this sick joke of an idea for carpeting should be taken out back and worked over mercilessly, then forced to spend the rest of eternity cleaning everyone's car/truck cursed with it. After doing the best I could, I searched the internet for almost 2 hours to try to find the name of this stuff so that I could then find out how to vacuum/clean/detail it. Nothing. The closest thing I could find was "nonwoven felt fabric," and that "felt" close enough. So, I typed that as a search on TH-cam this afternoon, and your video popped up! When your video's title included "horrible carpets," I knew I was on the right track. I only clean my own cars and don't have a detailing business, so I don't have a steamer. But your video along with ideas gleaned from others in this video's comments give me hope to be able to do a better job the next time. Again, THANK YOU for making a video on this topic!

    I worked in the flooring industry for 35 years. Carpet fibers have what are known as dye sites. These are tiny pockets that absorb dye or coloring to give the yarn its color. The dye sites open based on temperature.
    Carpeting in car is usually 80% rayon 20% nylon. Which the dye sites on this yarn open at about 150F ot 65C
    And I'll tell you right now using a steamer on carpet is one the stupidest things you could ever do.
    The dye sites on the yarn that makes up carpet usually open at 150 degrees F or 65C. A steamer puts out water above 212°F or 100°C. So basically anything trapped in the water is going to get trapped in the dye sites and permanently stain the carpet. You want to blame the sun for the lighter color where the mat is not... you are not entirely wrong, cars interiors can reach 150± degrees in the sun of summer in May locations. Hot enough to which can start the absorbing, but so does your stramer
    Much like super hot coffee permanently stained your office carpet.... hot coffee and milk entered the dye sites and the color found it's new home.

    • @webventures
      @webventures 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have told more than a few customers the same thing about coffee. I tell them to live with the stain because the carpet has been dyed. The preventative solution would have been to not drink hot coffee in the vehicle.

    How would the Tornador work on the impossible carpet?

    Im a detailer at a BMW dealership. When I get cars with this kinda stuff I usually use a tornador on it

    • @justinrounds517
      @justinrounds517 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tornadors require a lot of steady compressed air, and usually end up making more of a mess. (I have 2, 1 with the vaccum attachment). Steamers have pressure and heat, which can actually be more effective on a wider range of contamination. They also have more precision for tight areas.

    As an effective sound dampener / padding / heat barrier , vehicle manufacturers use thick material underneath the vehicle carpeting. So I see no logical reasoning behind install 'carpet' - even high quality carpet, in any vehicle - - It simply makes more sense to install a high-quality 'vinyl' flooring.
    Vinyl is more durable than carpet and well-suited to areas that attract a hive of activity. Quality vinyl flooring that's properly installed can last for more than 20 years, with little maintenance required. You can simply vacuum out all the loose dirt and then use soap & water to remove all the remaining sticky mess. Same goes for vehicle seating.
    And I say this mostly because it seems like 99.99% of people who own ANY type of vehicle are disgusting slobs. I don't detail cars for a living - but I have to climb into probably 50-100 vehicles per week for automotive / tire - related services... We use paper floor mats and plastic seat covers - and I am grateful for that, because I feel like it protects 'ME' to an extent, much more so than it does 'THEIR' filthy, germ-ridden interior. 🤮

    Honestly, I wonder why carpeting is used in cars at all. Carpets are notoriously hard to clean dirt-magnets even inside of a home, and a car is obviously a much worse situation. Imagine how much easier it would be to keep clean if the floor was non-porous. These days there are so many options in materials that I'm sure there exists far better alternatives. I think this may be largely a traditional holdover ie. they use carpeting because thats what the customers expects to see.

    What about the cheap shitty carpet that hold all the stuff like in this video but also from people getting in and out n stuff being drug across it and cleaning it, the carpet fibers like pull out and get all frayed and stringy but are still attached to the carpet? ( Nissan kicks for example, idk if you’ve done one of those before? ) I was thinking to go to acmoore and get that little fiber cutting thing that’s used in like old sweatshirts or whatever .

    • @wilsonautodetailing
      @wilsonautodetailing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely true! Ironically, a light mist of glass cleaner can remove the static that sometimes keeps the dog hair on the carpet, and a tool I like to use as a vac attachment is called the "fur eel" brush

    • @bsm1th99
