So, this is perhaps my game of the year. It was just so fantastic from top to bottom and I agree, the camera is absolutely tragic. So many deaths were because I couldn't see what was happening. However, that's not enough of a complaint for me to really take away from the game. My favorite part was the final boss, as I loved how he was designed to truly test your mastery of the game. beginning had me nearly in tears as well, so superb! Also the fact I bought it AFTER they added the easy mode, which as a game pro is how I start out ALL my new purchases. Made it so that I had one of the best first playthroughs EVER! So anyone who hates on the devs for making that LEVEL needs to understand some basics about what I just shared!
Once I figured out that replaying levels is the ticket to maximizing permanent moves/getting out with a low age, it really nullified the frustration factor. I was getting pissed at the low sweep spamming hos and the 2nd boss but it's all about repetition, repetition, repetition. Just like martial arts; muscle memory is king. I haven't beaten it yet, haven't even beaten the 3rd boss. I'm taking my time, learning the patterns, restarting the level when I want, etc. It really is weird how this repeating is still fun and rewarding, trying to beat my previous best and escape without a death while also building enough XP to buy a move permanently. Highly recommended game for kung fu/fighting game/challenging game lovers.
I feel like this game really targeted Kung-fu movie fans. The opening sequence alone hooked me. This boy was training on a wing chun dummy visualizing kicking these dudes asses for 8 years. I love this game.
Seikiro, Dark Souls and Bloodborne made me the hardcore gamer of today. I have a habit playing every game on the hardest difficulty even when it's a new game.
I am NOT a gamer God. Yang and his underlings kicked my ass too. But each loss was a lesson. Now I want to collect all the keys. There's a little mystery that I'm trying to unravel. And I want the rematch with the final boss in my 30s at least. SHEESH!
I totally agree with what you said about this game in regard to replayability. It reminds me a lot of any action game like DMC or Bayo in that while the games are only 6-8 hours long, they're meant to be played multiple times to achieve an S rank or pure platinum trophy. I've got 6 hours clock in on Sifu now and I'm still on the club level. It's not because I'm doing bad, but because I want to get through the level flawlessly. Although, Sean's been destroying everytime I get to him lol
Was searching for a new game to play & you've really sold me on this today. Actually just ordered it online & am super excited. Didn't even know about until until I watched your video on best ps5/4 games of 2022
Commenting a lil late, but honestly the biggest thing that captivated me was the audio. Not gonna lie just felt so badass when the audio links up when your kicking ass.
Love your energy, passion and enthusiasm for video games. If I ever need to hear a no bs take on a game. You are who I turn too. Can't wait to get my hands on sifu. Keep up the amazing work!
It teaches you, through constant frustration, mistakes and persistance. Multiple Lessons, without you even realising you're being taught these fundamentals. Superb!
I love how this game is mercilessly relentless....no chill no timeouts, no breaks , survival of the fittest. It beat me into despair a couple times but I'm getting it
The discussion around sifu is pretty fascinating. I didn't expect it to be a hit but I kept hearing so many cool things about it I got it day 1. So far I'm getting my butt kicked but enjoying it a lot :).
I will say to anyone who got to the last boss and thought "This is BS how am I supposed to beat this?" Keep going you will learn to deal with him piece by piece and when it clicks you feel like Neo from the Matrix. It's an awesome feeling.
This might be my fave combat system in any game ever. Because while you can look really badass, it takes actual skill to do so. Unlike Spider-Man, Batman, Kratos, Sleeping dogs, etc…
Gonna pick this up as soon as I can afford to, looks absolutely awesome and I love the concept. The idea of mastering the same levels at a younger age than before is so engaging and gameplay looks phenomenal, great vid as always Jake!
I just picked it up! I grew up watching a lot of Jackie Chan movies and as I play through it I find my self feeling like I’m playing through one of the movies! Great points Jake always cool to hear your takes
The thing about Sifu that constantly impresses me is that the theme is constant throughout. Sifu means 'master', and master is the word that rang through my head my entire playthrough. As a verb, as a noun, as a method, as a reminder, as a theme, the word sifu has infinite applications in this game. You start as a student learning to master his fighting style and learning new moves. Once you've beat your first playthrough, you've mastered the flow of the game. Now you have to master each individual enemies attack patterns. Then you have to master which moves give you the upper hand against certain encounters. Throughout this process, you're still mastering your abilities and permanently unlocking them. By the third playthrough, you're a complete demon, stomping through the easier fights with no problems, destroying the bigger threats with efficiency and tried and true methods. By the time you reach Yang the third time, he's the only true threat that remains in the entire game. Even the other bosses (except that museum slag) are fodder. This game is a game all about mastery of the game. There is nonway to accomplish a ton of the objectives without being indisputably phenomenal at the games mechanics. Not many games insist that you learn to utterly dominate them before you can even attempt the true challenge of the game, winning with mercy. Don't even get me started on arenas, I still only have like 3/4 of the gold stamps and every time i got another, it takes me MASTERING the layout of each arena to get kills or score in the most efficoent way possible. No game comes close to evoling this sense of domination outside of maybe the souls series, but even that isn't streamlined, so every player learns to dominate that game in their own way. Beautiful game, with developers that understood their theme and shot it to the moon with their dedication.
It's been a week since this comment, but if you haven't heard: they're adding an "easy" mode soon. So if you really like the idea, you can probably enjoy it quite a lot.
I wasn't aware of that actually. But, I Googled it and Easy Mode is going to be a thing along with an even higher difficulty mode. As an update, I broke down and bought the game. Man, it's really frigging good, but I've never been great at games with complex fighting mechanics...so I've been getting my ass whipped a lot lol.
As a fan of hard games I'm kinda glad to hear this one's tough. The combat in this game looks incredible and I'm glad you really gotta master things to be that badass. Waiting on the physical release but I'm pumped.
Follow up, I know not everyone likes difficulty, but I think for a game that's trying to pay homage to martial arts it makes sense that you can't just jump in and say "I know Kung Fu". Mastering a martial art is a long journey and it's cool to see that challenge reflected (and dumbed down) in a game.
One thing I love about the game is that it’s learning curve is smooth and seemless . For example: in the club directly outside the main boss there is two mini-bosses that are absolutely insane. But after playing the level multiple times i beat them and not only felt satisfied but I could not imagine not beating them with ease after a couple runs. I feel like it’s a hard game, but whenever you redo a level you always get a younger age. Idk it might just be me.
I've only just beat the second boss but Damn, the first time I got the hallway fight, with the camera angle like the scene from Old Boy, my jaw dropped.
I'm so glad you said you're weak at some games. Because unfortunately I have the same. I love playing games, discovering new worlds and adventures, but sometimes I see that the game is a big big challenge for me. THX Jake :)
Just got past The Museum....The Artist...what a fantastic boss fight. Everything from the Kill Bill setting to the amazing soundtrack implementation. The soundtrack fits the game mood and attitude so well. The Soundtrack engulfs you in this world. She had me ready to throw my controller, but when I finally took her down, I yelled out loud woo hoo! Felt so good. I am not one to rage, even though I was close on this one. I LOVE games that push you to your limit like this one. It feels so gratifying when you accomplish such a hard task. This game SLAPS!
Sifu easily has one of the best game openings I've ever experienced. After the intro I was like hot damn that was dope! Combat, presentation, soundtrack, everything is amazing. Apart from the intro sequence the oldboy hallway fight had me geeking the f*** out!
Just found your channel a couple weeks ago but have been binging your game reviews! Love how you break down games and I’m hyped to play this next 🔥 keep up the great content man 🙏🏼
As someone who can’t get into the Souls games because of their oppressive/abusive gameplay, I can confirm that Sifu is nothing like it. It will demolish you, the difficulty is no joke. However, you rarely feel cheated, and it constantly rewards you for good playing. You can go from feeling like a punching bag to a god over the course of two consecutive rooms. Game of the Year for 2022, thusfar.
coming back to this 3 years later after having replayed it after 2 years. I fucking love this game. I played and platted it in the first week of its release and have gone back to it on and off. It's just perfect to me
It's an amazing game. So many of the big fighting game franchises seem to have lost that connection between the controller and the fight on the screen, but Sifu absolutely nails it.
I really want to play games like these, rage inducing games with a fair challenge. Sifu is roughly 17usd on epic where I live (all hail regional pricing), might pick it up over the weekend.
As the great Bruce Lee once said, “I do not fear the man who practices a thousand kicks once, but rather the man who practices one kick a thousand times.” Point being, master the basics. Master the basics and you will be good at this game
I'm also a rage gamer and my god I love this game. I was fighting the second boss and I was already in my 60s. Was trying too hard keep getting a weapon and ended up with 2 more deaths before game over. I then just decided to focus on weaving and it turned out amazing. I still died in the second half, but I ended up with zero damage in the first half. I felt like a Kung Fu master in that moment that I started screaming in joy. The second half I was almost able to win, but I was in my 70s at that point and got hit like once or twice and died. Such an amazing game
EDIT: Only at Level 2 right now, but favourite moment so far is actually the prologue. Specifically the opening credits in the red pocket dimension where the protag is doing their sick katas while imagining killing the five murderers. Presentation is off the charts. I relate so hard to being a rage gamer, loving martial arts flicks, and loving/rewatching fight scenes on repeat. I knew Sifu was going to be one of my favourite games of the year because of that, but learning how challenging the game actually is just heightened that. A sifu is a master, and the devs really drive home the idea of making mistakes, learning from your mistakes, and developing mastery and efficiency over time and experience. This game makes me want to tear my hair out sometimes, but when a fight is going well? Hooooo, that's some GOOD stuff right there. So happy this game ended up exceeding all my expectations. Now I just need Midnight Fight Express to come out, and I'm pretty much good for video games this year.
Glad I watched your video in the game because it wasn't even on my radar, I picked it up, and I love it! For $40 this is a great game for the value and I love the art style. Keep up the great work Jake!
I would like to play the game but due to my disabilities I can’t play it - it looks stunning but it’s not possible for me to even try playing it - love your enthusiasm for it
Sifu is exactly the kind of game I wish more people would make: It does one thing and it does it well. There aren't a million side quests and stupid little time trials or throwaway puzzles. And every inch of every level is FUN. There's no 5 minute car or horse ride to the fun part of the game. There's no long sequences of pushing forward on the joystick even though nothing is really happening on screen. Like I am happy to play the same 20 minute level over and over again if every single minute of that level is fun. God I wish they made more games like this.
This game kinda reminded me of God Hand with the certain enemies turning into mini bosses and the unlocking new moves and the weaving obvs not exactly the same but I love both games this is definitely my new favourite martial arts game now

Gamed ever since its been a commercial thing. Sifu is my #1 ranked single player title in all that time...that says it ALL right there!
beginning had me nearly in tears as well, so superb!
I just finished watching the Before You Buy video, can't wait to play it, too bad my PC is another continent away ;(
You could try that Shadow streaming service if this is about a month long bind.
@@Darek_B52 Playing Sifu through streaming would be the definition of pain
I feel like this game really targeted Kung-fu movie fans. The opening sequence alone hooked me. This boy was training on a wing chun dummy visualizing kicking these dudes asses for 8 years. I love this game.
All for REVENGE! A fantastic homage to a whole bunch of martial art/action flicks.
You five murdered my father... prepare to die.
Bak Mei Kungfu.
Seikiro, Dark Souls and Bloodborne made me the hardcore gamer of today. I have a habit playing every game on the hardest difficulty even when it's a new game.
Jake: This game is unforgiving
Sekiro veterans: hold my g-fuel
Your not alone man, was able to get past him at age 23, came into the level at 20 I just can’t get lower than 23 so hard
Was searching for a new game to play & you've really sold me on this today. Actually just ordered it online & am super excited. Didn't even know about until until I watched your video on best ps5/4 games of 2022
Your passion for games is awesome. Keep it up. Love the content.
I dig it, my thumbs hurt and I was like 10 hours in before I figured out you can throw someone but, I dig it.
They 100% needs to bring back Fight Night. FN Champion was SUCH a good game between the story and multiplayer. The mechanics were so good.
Hell yeah! I miss the series so much
It teaches you, through constant frustration, mistakes and persistance. Multiple Lessons, without you even realising you're being taught these fundamentals. Superb!
I love how this game is mercilessly relentless....no chill no timeouts, no breaks , survival of the fittest. It beat me into despair a couple times but I'm getting it
This is literally Bruce Lee the game I'm loving it so much.
I actually had my, "I know Kung Fu" moment when I figured out how to weave, and the first two bosses because super easy.
reminds me of Jet Li's rise to honor ps2 game, what a classic!!
The first game that made me think "lets see how far impossible takes me". Awesome review.
I wasn't even really looking at this game until you started talking about it. Your channel is awesome man!
Thank you sir!

I'll probably never play Sifu TBH. It seems much too hard. But, I can't wait to see someone pull a legit no-hit run on this thing.
I look forward to seeing the 100% all enemies defeated speedruns on this thing and then the "All Bosses" speedrun
I wasn't too sold on this game, but after listening to you talk so well about it I may have to give it a go. Thanks Jake!
What camera are you using Jake? Great video
This game really reminds me of the good old days PS1 “Jackie Chan Stuntmaster”.
THX Jake :)
Put on the samurai champloo soundtrack and run through this game that sounds perfect
Got this last Friday got the platinum Thursday Lol what a grind! But i loved every moment of it! This game is unforgiving forsure!
It's just perfect to me
first
I won hahahhahah
Lmao no one asked or cares..oh its Gameranx (nervous & awkward smile*), what a suprise to see u here! Haha..You get a pass lol
20th! im the bigger number so i win hehe
Happy I found your channel dude. Great communication, and excellent description of the game. Peace
Woah, thanks! I appreciate hearing that
It's an amazing game. So many of the big fighting game franchises seem to have lost that connection between the controller and the fight on the screen, but Sifu absolutely nails it.
Love the Old Boy style...man oh man.
Ohhh yes
I really want to play games like these, rage inducing games with a fair challenge. Sifu is roughly 17usd on epic where I live (all hail regional pricing), might pick it up over the weekend.
The dualsense helps make this game even more amazing. It feels just so damn good and satisfying in your hands
Awesome implementation
As the great Bruce Lee once said, “I do not fear the man who practices a thousand kicks once, but rather the man who practices one kick a thousand times.” Point being, master the basics. Master the basics and you will be good at this game
The first hallway section from the side kill bill style was an INCREDIBLY satisfying moment. Can’t wait to get past the club.
I love this game. It brings me back to those beat em ups on the ps1 and PS2. I hope they continue building with this formula, I want more Sifu lol
You can feel the passion that the devs put in this game. I love games like this.
this is why you're the king of game reviews Jake, you explained this game PERFECTLY!
13:00 "godspeed, spiderman." that shit broke me lmfao
Glad I watched your video in the game because it wasn't even on my radar, I picked it up, and I love it!
For $40 this is a great game for the value and I love the art style.
Keep up the great work Jake!
I'm unable to play since I'm traveling but i get mirror's edge vibes from it. Something different/unique.
Games shouldn’t be dismissed if it’s a short game if it has high replay value. Not every game needs to be long just for the sake of making it long.
My thoughts exactly!
Sifu makes me feel like I'm back in 1988 trying to figure out a NES game. It's Awesome.
This game kinda reminded me of God Hand with the certain enemies turning into mini bosses and the unlocking new moves and the weaving obvs not exactly the same but I love both games this is definitely my new favourite martial arts game now
Hey jake just wanted to let you know, these videos are my fav on youtube!
I’ve been on the squats mission for 2 days and I’m not moving on until I beat it at age 20 and I’m gonna do that with every mission. That’s why I feel like the game is called sifu because it trains you to be perfect
This is my mission as well, I just want to be the "ip Man"of this game universe
It's a Git Gooder's game. You have to embrace the beat down. 😌 🙏
When it clicks, you're gonna be so happy.
Also... Super Trip Kick.
Some of the best game art direction I've ever seen.
So happy you have been keeping this channel consistent
Haven't been this early in a while. Still love you Jake! lmao haha hope to buy you pizza and a beer one day ahah
THANK YOU! that is very kind and I'm glad you're here Ennis 👍👍🍕
There was this Combo Customization Feature in their Previous game, They can use something like that for a Sequel...
This is why Jake Baldino is my favorite on TH-cam. He is so dayum honest and he admits what we all dont want to admit, but we know is true.... Jake it was nice meeting you last week at RA!! (Ragers Anonymous) haha. :) Thanks for such a great video buddy.
It really is an amazing little game. The style and the graphics tooks me a second to get used to but fell in love after the hallway fight, this game gets me pumped, kinda like when I watched Van Damme with my half brother. I also think of those stickmen fights when it goes well in Sifu, those were so epic!
Holy crap i didnt know jake had a separate channel. Subscribed!
