@@JavierLopez-gv7kt If it's a professional thief maybe. But the average numb nuts punk thief joy rider most likely wouldn't have a clue and not likely to have the fuse he needs in his pocket anyway. You really only need to do this after you park the car in the driveway for the night. Most cars stolen right out of the driveway at night. Plus, use a club. Bright yellow one. Deterrence is the name of the game.
Great tip! There is no need to blow the fuse though, just take it with you. Most car theft is a crime of opportunity. Generally speaking most thieves will just move on when the car will not start.
so true, i was thinking why would you blow the fuse when most thieves are too stupid or lazy to think about something like this, not only that if they are limited on time then this makes it perfect.
Most professional theives pride themselves on accepting challenges and they come prepared. This will stop a casual thief, but not the pros. If they are looking for a specific kind of car, they WILL know all the tricks. Putting a fake fuse in there is brilliant because they will spot a missing fuse, but they may miss a blown one that is still in place.
I used to do this with my step kids when I went out of town with their mother. I know they would try to take off in my truck so I always pulled the fuel injector fuse. I just left it empty. I came home to a dead battery more than once but my vehicle was always safe
+John Cochran So now we're looking at a thief who does some troubleshooting before stealing a car and goes around with a a few spare parts just in case the car he's going to steal is missing a spark plug?
Nope. A missing fuse is pretty obvious and generally there's more than a few "non-critical" fuses in the fusebox that are the same size or larger than the "critical" fuses. So if you see the fuel pump fuse slot is empty, pull the fuse for the radio or some other non-critical circuit and plug it into the fuel pump slot. And you're now ready to go. But to be honest, his method is rather silly and unlikely to be used since how many people do you know of who would be willing to open the hood and fuse box each time they park? Much easier is to conceal a switch inside the cabin that would disconnect power to the fuel pump.
+John Cochran I doubt that a thief will spend any amount of time doing diagnostics on a car that isn't turning over. Most security systems can be defeated but the good news is car thieves will not spend a lot of time trying to steal your car, they will most likely move on to the next vehicle. I've always used the yellow wheel locks because they are very visible and serve a a good deterrent for thieves.
Probably be better if you can trace the wires that go to the fuel pump and install a hidden switch inside the cabin somewhere that toggles it on and off.
dekoldrick ☆ my truck has a key operated switch, to disable the passenger air bag. Just wire your kill switch through there. If they break in, and if they disable the alarm, they will never figure that that switch has to be on for the fuel pump to get power.
I agree. As a telcom tech I can tell you every time you remove and re install a fuse, you open up the contacts to the holder. In time the holder and the fuse will loose their connectivity and one good bump, and your fuse pops out.
Just imagine if you use your car 10 times a day or more it takes a thief one minute to take your car you go in side circle k for 2 minutes that's it bye-bye car unless you take the 10 minutes to change the fuse before you go inside circle k or any convenience store there is much much better ways to stop a thief from stealing your car you don't have to be a genius to make a hell of a good killing switch
It would be a LOT easier to just wire in a discrete kill switch. Will save taking fuses out and putting them in every time you want to go anywhere. Or do what I do and just drive a manual...
burnsoaker dam, Guess i can live in Australia since I drive manual XD, try again next time put some insult in an insult... if your're trying to hurt feelings...
I don't see why there is so many dislikes for this video. As an alternative, you can remove the ECU fuse instead of the Fuel Pump fuse. You can't start the car without an ECU either. Great video.
Seems like it, yeah. I just lock it and then unhook my negative terminal and take the locking bolt with me. The magnets on the door locks don't have a mechanical connection so you can't even open the doors or trunk anymore. Even if they break the window and try to hotwire it, the engine won't even turn over, let alone anything else.
That would be an issue, yes :P. However, the car is an '03 SAAB 9-3 petrol with a 5 speed manual. I don't have an aftermarket unit in it, just its normal CD player. It has forward play and shuffle, but has no graphics or anything fancy, so no demo mode either. And the radio is BIOS wired in the car with some strange fiber optic network. It doesn't forget stations even when the car is left with no power for a long time (I've had the battery out of it for 3 months). And the computer is just a basic ECU with preset map for the throttle, it doesn't learn anything other than re-calculating the fuel consumption for every 100 Km's traveled and the clock which I either reset manually or tell it to pick up the time signal via RDS from one of the radio stations. For me, this system works, but yes, as you mentioned, it will have some drawbacks on newer models. I also have a Renault 12 based Dacia 1310, built in '96 but with technology from 1969. Iron block, pushrods, carb, mechanical distributor, 5 speed manual with synchors only on gears 2 to 5, you know.. In that one (not that I'm generally worried about anyone stealing it) I just pop off the distributor cap which takes the plug wires with it and the one from the voltage induction coil. Fuel pump is mechanical so unless it fires it won't even get fuel, let alone any spark, and thieves around here don't tend to carry a full set of wiring with them.
@@pleco101 It's probably got a similar system, I'll wager the Japanese have got it figured out better than some early 2000s GM experimental wiring loom (from the car's manual, they were praising this CAN-BUS system as some revolutionary thing, but all it did was piss people off because every electronic component needed to be added via Tech II encoding if it was replaced: column lock module, ECU / ECM, even adding aux-in to the radio needed to be added into the network). The Nav settings, I wouldn't be able to tell you, I'm like an old man, I read maps before trips and just follow signs and landmarks. My car doesn't have one and I don't even use my phone for that stuff. However, if it's 2007, I'm willing to bet it has some kind of flash memory that would allow it to remember things once power goes out. Easy way to check, just disconnect the battery and leave it overnight. Hook it back up in the morning and see what's different. My bet is you'll also mess your clock up, but not much else. And don't freak out if the transponder key doesn't work right away, mine takes a couple of tries before it and the car get "re-acquainted" :) As for uses, never tampered with them. I'm the 5th owner of this thing and never touched the fuse box. I've had the car 7 years now and as far as I can tell by the grime around the fuse-box hatch, no one's touched it in almost 20 years. GM Quality™ right there :))
I thought the same thing. I guess it just depends on the circumstances where you are parking your car and what you are doing that night. Like if I am on a dinner date I certainly wouldn't be doing all that. What's the weather like? Below zero, snow, thunder storms.....? Where am I parking it and for how long. Airport parking for days whilst I am gone.....? Keep a spar fuse hidden in the trunk of your car just in case you damage or loose the one you took with you from the engine compartment. Instead of removing a fuse, consider taking out the fuel injector module or the ignition module. Even if a would be thief discovered what you had done, what are the odds he would have the exact same module that would work with your car? As with the fuse, keep a spare module in the trunk of your car just in case you loose or damage the one you took with you.
I think the idea of replacing with a blown fuse is so that if the thief opens the bonnet to check for missing fuse then he will see none are missing and may think the car has mechanical issues
@@vergecryptocurrency4552 true but taking the fuse will just be effective because usually people just hot wire it and run not waste time popping the hood and check fuses and stuff and figure why it wont start.
@@thegods2622 Not these days, hot wiring doesn't work with contemporary cars. There's just too much electronic & mechanical crap to by-pass or break. It's not just a matter of breaking the steering lock & hot wiring the ignition/starter solenoid, like the old days. That why both professional car thieves & joy riders these days invariably break into people homes now to look for the spare keys of the target car, or steal the handbag of the target car's driver, to get her keys. Just go have a chat with a cop or a mechanic, that's the way it's done now. Or if they know a friendly new car dealer or up to date locksmith one can have a key made up using the code on the plate under the bottom of the windscreen on the passenger side (well it works with GM cars, don't know about other brands though)
Some punks attempted to steal my truck a few years ago and jacked up my column pretty good, but couldn't unlock the wheel so they didn't get it. Since then though, I don't need a key to start it, only to unlock the wheel, so when I get out, I pull the injector and ecm fuse that are in the interior fuse box right by my knee.. 2 fuses, don't pop the hood, truck doesn't start, cost zero cents. I don't pop fuses or anything, just pull em. A thief isn't going to try to diagnose a no start. It's gonna crank for a few seconds, not start, they're moving on to the next one.
Nice tip! But I'd prefer to make some extra circuit so I can "swap" between modes electronically (pressing some button somewhere) instead of physically (opening the fuse box, swapping the fuse, closing the fuse box) I think first of all we have to be quick, and in second we have to be discreet.
Yes sir this guy he's totally crazy he has the car locked inside the garage and to top it off he blown the fuse so nobody can steal it and he made a video and posted on here to give the idea to the world as soon as they legalize the Mary Jane I knew a bunch of smokers they were going to come with this hell of a good ideas 💡💡💡
So why don't you just take the fuse out instead of putting a fake one in, just leave it out... its not like a car thief just keeps fuel pump fuses for your car in their pocket or anything...
Hey! That's pretty neat! I sure wasn't expecting something super easy like a secret button but that's not too much work for a little added security. I don't see me doing that every time but it sure is handy to know if your in a shady area and need some piece of mind, thank you!
Thanks for taking time to make a video. It took way longer than 10 seconds. There is better ways to do what you did inside the car. Your way is very obvious especially when you park when you go out. There are usually 2 fuse areas inside the car. Or have a kill switch installed, but if you want to pull a fuse pull it from inside. Thanks.
Great idea. Probably very effective, (unless the crook watches your shows). BUT that is a lot of work EVERY NIGHT, and again in the morning to switch back to a good fuse.
or for free, you take a spare fuse with a much lower rating and install it in place of the higher rating and try to start your car instantly blowing the fuse. them you swap fuses back and they won't know.
I took a dump on my front lawn... in da middle of the nite...someone stole the log they picked up dat piece of shit and put it in their pocket n ran off...ya gotta remember people these people who steal cars are the scum of the earth they would rather steal ur ride than just take one from a dealership...like i said scum of the earth destine for hell 😐
I wired my old MGB so you needed to click an unused switch inside the car to operate the electric fuel pump. If the switch wasn't turned on, the car would start, but only go about 1/8 of a mile before it shut down. It actually worked once, not from a thief, but from a roommate who took the car thinking I wouldn't mind. The car was left near the house on the side of the road. When I got home and my roommate had some explaining to do. So, if I were doing this to a modern car, I would probably do the same thing.
popping the hood and removing FUSES is a crap method. Pulling fuses and reinserting them will wear out the fuse receptacles. Install a damn KILL switch for about 5 buck.
Nice idea with the fuse trick. Another way is a technique that I used to use. Just unplug either side of the ignition coil wire. You can either completely unplug it just a little bit so they can't tell that it's been unplugged. Or you can unplug it and move the cable plug end just off to the side of the coil or distributer plug, so that it masks the true plug slot and still appears connected. With the coil wire unplugged, no power will go to any of the spark plugs and therefore the car can't start.
yep that works great and sometimes i just take the whole wire and hide it, most wont have a spare wire with them fuses maybe or they could use foil to make things work and i have also use a kill switch but today most thieves know these tricks but the wire gone stops all.
I got a standard transmission, half the battle is won. By the time they fry my clutch trying to move 3 feet be plenty time to decide if I want to have my interior re-done or they pay for new parts.
+jaket2k9 a smart car thief will know how to drive a stick. most of them know what they're after. i wouldn't underestimate the criminal mind. the other problem with this video is that he blows the fuse to prevent it from starting and puts it back as if the criminal wont notice. well if he's smart enough to check the fuses, he's probably going to check to see if any were blown.
John A "Smart enough" and "Time" are two different things. If hes smart enough a car thief would ignore whatever gear your cars in and just trailer it or tow it. But if the owner is smart enough they would RFID all the panels and have ways to prevent theft. The easiest is not parking where your car is likely to be stolen.
You could just take the fuse out, no need to replace it with a broken decoy. I mean the majority of thieves aren't the brightest bunch. If they were smart enough to think "oh wait he must have removed one of the fuses to start the car" he would notice a broken fuse by looking at one.
Thats why you take a colour picture of a new fuse, print it out and stick it to the outside of the busted fuse to make it look new. they will be scratching their head for days on that hum dinger
This will work but is not practical for everyday use. It would work if you were going to leave your car in a public place for a few days in a sketchy neighborhood and were worried about it being stolen.
For a little bit of time and patience, one can call up one's local, state, and federal legislators to allow us to declare open season on all criminals and the crimes they commit. That will go a long way towards eliminating crime. Also, we must mete out long sentences to those who subsidize criminals by purchasing whatever those criminals sell. When it comes to a big ticket item such as a car, electronics, high end jewelry, boats, and more, there is no such excuse as "I didn't know it was stolen." The purchaser has a responsibility to exercise due diligence to discover who the real owner is and if the seller is authorized by the real owner to sell the property. We should stop having sympathy for the lazy bums that perpetrate career crime and their enablers.
It is amazing to me that the majority of the common sense comments expressed on the web are posted by conservatives... God Bless Amnerica, thanks for caring enough about America to actually THINK!
No, fuel injectors will not work without pressure from the pump. Now if it had a carburetor, then it could drive for awhile ( couple of minutes) because the fuel bowl is full of gas.
Interesting concept if you're going to leave your car in a lot for quite a while. You'd want to remove the spare fuses too if the thief even goes through the trouble of actually troubleshooting the problem. I've also heard of occasions where thieves use tow trucks steal your car. Brilliant!
good idea tho! Definitely going to look into something like that. You always want to disable either spark or fuel. Because mostly any car thief is gonna know how to jump a starter. Thanks for the video!
You could try smearing peanut butter on the air filter. It will prevent air from getting to the engine and give you the no-start situation that you need. Also, when you are ready to leave the store, simply eat the peanut butter and your car will start right up. maybe. Another great way to prevent your car from starting would be to park the car at your destination, set the emergency brake. then with the engine still running shift into neutral. Here comes the fun part. Firmly put your foot on the accelerator pedal and keep it there. If you have been doing the oil starvation method of preventing car theft, this will be easier for you. If not don't worry. Run the engine wide open throttle. If necessary, have a friend simultaneously spray ether into the filter. You should hear a super loud pop. Once you do, just head on into the store to do some worry free shopping! HTH
one big problem a lot of cars have a safety device that stops your car from idling over about 4,000 rpms My solution is to put a locking gas cap on your car and only put enough gas in your vehicle to get you have way to where your going (that way there won't even be fumes left), then go Married with children style and push it the rest of the way. Prevents theft and keeps you in shape.
Great idea. Every time you park, open the hood, open the fuse box cover, swap the fuse and put it back together. Then when you’re ready to go - repeat. Just take the car. Who has time for this.
On my car, if you bust a window and unlock the door the horn will start honking repeatedly after a few seconds. That alarm system came with the car when it was new.
I'm sure this will work on this application but I bought a fuse wire safety setup for my 87 T-Type Regal back in the day. It was pretty simple, basically a remote mount fuse for the ECM...or fuel pump etc. It had a non functioning fuse with wires attached to each pole of the fuse. You pulled your good fuse out and installed it. Then on the other end of the wires was a fuse slot. You installed your good fuse in the slot. I can't recall how long the wires was but it was enough to relocate the fuse to a convenient location. This made it quick and painless to remove.
i gota better idea take out the fuse and hook your self in a switch in place of the fuse run the switch to a place under the dash only you know about then you dont have all the hassle of opening up the hood and swapping in dead fuses all the time, works perfect with every car that has a fuel pump fuse, for cars with out then you need to locate the main computers fuse put in an inline fuse to the same switch so the computer will still be safe.. there are alot of cars by the way that the fuse is under the rear seat of the car for the fuel pump so under the hood wont work all the time..
People used to do things like this long ago before there were car alarms= Remove fuses, distributor rotor, etc. What a day/night you'll have if that fuse manages to drop out of your hand. Great video though.
There are other fuses with the same amp, so you can sacrifice other stuff just to make it home. Or better yet have some backup somewhere inside your car.
Been doing that for about 30 years, but I pull a different one, and took off the label - and NEVER told anybody about it. Trouble with telling the world about it is that now thieves will bring along a pocket full of fuses of various sizes and look for the missing or blown one.
I did a similar thing on a car I owned except I wired a switch to the fuze to ground to blow the fuel pump fuze if someone tried to start the car without flipping the switch. The fuel pump fuze would blow and the thief could only drive as far as the fuel in the carburetor would last. But you still need to keep spare fuzes for when you forget to flip the switch!! Ha, Ha, ask me how I know!
They could move a similar fuse into it's place. Basically replacing it with a dead fuse is security through obscurity... Then again, how could they tell if that car needs a fuse in that specific place... Rip this argument...
I drive a truck with a manual transmission. I got the top of a shiftlever from an Eaton Fuller 13 speed and put that on the shifter in the truck, even ran the air line for the hi/lo down into the floor just so it would look legit. It will never be stolen. I guarantee it.
Might cost 50 cents for the fuse, but it's gonna cost a lot more when you have to repair your engine and pump for suckling in air instead of fuel. The fuel acts as a lubricant on its travel to the piston. No fuel = no lubrication = burning things up = costly repairs. This is a way to do it, but it'd be worth it just to buy an alarm system for the vehicle.
Buckeyefreak28 The fuel system is sealed - the pump can't pull air because it's always connected to a fuel line full of gas. With the blown fuse in place, it would just sit there - no power/no damage. And gas doesn't lubricate your motor - oil does. Turning an engine over with no fuel doesn't do it any harm, other than overworking your starter motor and killing your battery.
Actually gas does coat the top of your piston so that when the fuel air mixture combusts it doesn't completely melt your piston but the car has to be running for that damage to be done.
Adrian Calugar If you have so much gas entering the combustion chamber that it "coats" the piston crown, the engine is running way too rich. Piston crown cooling is usually handled passively by dissipation of heat though the ringlands, rings, and cylinder walls, although some engines make use of jets that squirt oil at the underside of the crown. That much gas would dilute the oil on the cylinder walls and cause seriously accelerated wear. That's the main reason why modern engines last longer - fuel injection meters the fuel way better than carbs ever could, so excess fuel doesn't end up running down the cylinders walls and diluting the oil. Pistons don't melt under normal running conditions - they're designed to take a lot of abuse over many miles of driving.
Then, you are in a hurry to get going and have to put a freakin' FUSE back in? Seriously? Or, the thief trashes the starter, which MIGHT just cost a bit MORE than 50 centavos!
I don't know why this has so many downvotes. I agree it's easier to just pull the fuse, but the idea to give the impression that something is wrong with the car and not make it obvious.
This is a ease and cheep fix but you can have alarm system that makes no noise when switch on or off It's true that no alarm will go off but it will keep the engine from starting Lots of people will like the fact they have to put work in to it as well even though it's a ease fix You can have more than one switch or relay install in the car to brake the power to the starter relay or brake the power to the coil or coil pack It's possible to install a switch in the fuel pump power wire as well But those take time and cost You do have a simple fix it's cheep and most car thrive only wish to hope in and go once thieres trouble it's time to walk a way unless it's a really big score Thanks for posting for this may have save a car
***** This is probably the dumbest way to secure your car. Also, if taking out the battery is not stopping a professional, WHAT KIND OF PRO TAKES AROUND A CAR BATTERY IN CASE THERE ISN'T ONE IN THE CAR, BUT WON'T TAKE AROUND A SPARE FUSE. I got a way you can secure your car for free! When you go in the the coffee shop just pop your trunk and pull out your socket set, speed jack, engine hoist and Haynes manual, and remove the engine and transmission from your car! Then when a thief goes to start it NOTHING WILL HAPPEN. Still....might not stop those professional car thieves who carry a spare engine and tranny around with them.
why wouldnt you just hold onto the fuel pump fuse in your wallet or something instaed of blowing up a fuse every fucking time you are so paranoid about this shit... lol..
cause if..and i mean if..the thief opens the fuse box and sees a missing fuel pump fuse he will bridge the gap and his on his way...but if u place one that's already blown for the working fuse(not blow one every time just have a blown fuse on hand) they he might rule out fuse problem and give up.
Milk Manson That is why i said "IF"..people "hot wire" cars right?..people don't steal cars just cause you leave the keys in the ignition. There are smart thieves out there there not all dumb. I recently watched a documentary about a man who stole high end cars BMW, Corvettes, Audi's.etc not Honda's and Toyota's..you need to be smart to steal those cars. So a fuse pulled out is a laughing matter for those type of thieves. And the only time i hope you pull a fuse from your car is if your leaving you car in the airport or garage for a considerable amount of time..not for day to day basis so the thief has all the time in the world to diagnose the problem and be on his way with you car.(cause he saw you hop on the plane ..etc). And if someone walks up on him he will just claim it is his car and it wont start and continue wondering why it wont start till he gives up or takes the car. (chew on that for a while and you will see why im right)
Stealing a new Corvette isn't exactly like putting a slim jim down the door and popping the column lock. However, winching it onto the back of a flatbed tow truck or a covered trailer does not require you to enter the vehicle at all. Some alarm systems have a towing over-ride that shuts off the alarm when the car reaches a certain angle of elevation.
Seems a little involved every time I park at the mall or something. I knew a guy who had wired two of the hold-down screws on the dash trim. When he touched the screws at the same time, it allowed the key to start the car. It was a 70s corvette. Before the age of modern electronics in cars.
why dont you just remove steering wheel and take it shopping with you, its free, and if you car does get towed away at least you still got the wheel, just a thought.
My friend who went to jail for stealing cars showed me this video.Seriously though that would mean everytime you have to pop the hood take out the blown fuse and replace it with the good one..
Thieves can use a tow truck (yes they'll do that) and this method won't stop a tow truck. Nobody questions tow guys. However, for longterm parking (storage/vacation etc) this is certainly a good idea.
Only problem is that it won't stop someone from towing it and you are not gonna be swapping that fuse out every time you park the car. Better to just have good insurance because if they want your car, they are going to get it eventually.
A thought, it can be potentially dangerous to your vehicle's electronics if you jump start another vehicle. Could that surge from the battery that you use to short the fuse be potentially dangerous to your electronics? Just a thought. I've removed fuses and they still stole my truck.
This makes sense. If you plan on parking your car for a extended time, remove a fuse..............Now I wouldnt necessarily blow it...but i would remove it.....A case where i would blow it would be if the criminal knew I did it. How you gonna have time to check every fuse??
If there is only two wires going to it try cutting and connecting them - then try it - if it doesn't work separate the wires and try it - if that fails follow the wires and see what they connect to
Ford F-150 is the most stolen. You don't live near a Southern U.S. border do you? Honda's with VTEC are 80% likely to have jacked long block if driven by tuners with gang affiliation. hands down the most stolen import for the motor. They boost em and blow holes in the blocks with rod failures..
LOL serious? Chrysler is owned by Dodge. Dodge also owns Jeep. Now go google all the videos of people breaking into chryslers and jeeps in under 15 seconds. All they do is bust the ignition housing and they can drive off with a screw driver. Fords are alot harder depending on the model and Chevy I'll admit I dont know much about. Point being is that dodge fucking sucks.

Wouldn't it make more sense to remove the fuse instead and put it back whenever you want? It's even cheaper and just as effective.
+John Wilkinson He's assuming that the potential thief will do some rudimentary troubleshooting and a missing fuse is pretty obvious.
+John Cochran This is a good idea if you're leaving your car to sit for a while though say while on vacation or whatever.
Suggestion:
Simply leave your CD player on 'repeat' playing Justin Bieber music.
Who could possible endure a couple of minutes ???
Hey I'm Canadian eh. He was born and raised not far from me. Don't know him but I get the point
wheel barrow Abuse. You just broke the law.
Pat TheHombre the thief would sue you and definitely win, that's just beyond immoral.
+ThisIsNotAGame how would thief win its not his car he shouldn't be in it if anything he would go to jail for atepted auto theft
Brandon Martinez You don't get it, do you?
Probably be better if you can trace the wires that go to the fuel pump and install a hidden switch inside the cabin somewhere that toggles it on and off.
+dekoldrick A very good idea - just hide it well - like a push button inside the headrest under the leather at the back
+carquestions
Thanks for telling me , I owe you one.
Ha!
dekoldrick best comment
dekoldrick exactly. a kill switch
dekoldrick ☆ my truck has a key operated switch, to disable the passenger air bag.
Yes sir
Just imagine if you use your car 10 times a day or more it takes a thief one minute to take your car you go in side circle k for 2 minutes that's it bye-bye car unless you take the 10 minutes to change the fuse before you go inside circle k or any convenience store there is much much better ways to stop a thief from stealing your car you don't have to be a genius to make a hell of a good killing switch
In the US, just do what I did, buy a manual transmission. It's amazing how many people can't drive one!
i think if people are stealing cars theyre more than likely able to drive a stick...
+Gravelord Nito you would be surprised. I'm sure half of all car thieves can't drive a manual
Woo
woohunter1 then thats a 50% chance my car could get stolen then
They need to roll their joints-so manual is too annoying!
It would be a LOT easier to just wire in a discrete kill switch. Will save taking fuses out and putting them in every time you want to go anywhere.
Or do what I do and just drive a manual...
I'm pretty sure there's something I don't know but I always thought the thief could just learn how to drive a manual.
in austria its better to drive atomatic then the thief wouldnt steal the car, cause automatic is for loosers.
burnsoaker that made no sense at all...... please get off the internet
oh sorry you probably didn't know you have to learn how to drive manual to get a license in austria...
burnsoaker dam, Guess i can live in Australia since I drive manual XD, try again next time put some insult in an insult... if your're trying to hurt feelings...
I don't see why there is so many dislikes for this video.
As an alternative, you can remove the ECU fuse instead of the Fuel Pump fuse.
You can't start the car without an ECU either. Great video.
That's alot of work to do every time you want to drive somewhere.
Seems like it, yeah. I just lock it and then unhook my negative terminal and take the locking bolt with me. The magnets on the door locks don't have a mechanical connection so you can't even open the doors or trunk anymore. Even if they break the window and try to hotwire it, the engine won't even turn over, let alone anything else.
vtr0104 So your deck is always in demo mode and your computer is always in re-learn mode... uh, no.
And don't freak out if the transponder key doesn't work right away, mine takes a couple of tries before it and the car get "re-acquainted" :)
As for uses, never tampered with them.
It would cost $0.0 if instead of blowing the fuse you just remove it. I don't want this guy working on anything of mine
🤣
@@thegods2622 who knows how to hot wire a car??? Especially today's cars with a multitude of wires in and around the steering column.
@Deklyn Denison They tried to get my Tahoe last week. Same way! Idk about that trick until now. sad
Nice tip! But I'd prefer to make some extra circuit so I can "swap" between modes electronically (pressing some button somewhere) instead of physically (opening the fuse box, swapping the fuse, closing the fuse box)
I think first of all we have to be quick, and in second we have to be discreet.
Just remove the engine and take it with you. Lol 😂
The obvious solution
💀💀😂😂😂
This comment is still funny in 2020
That's what I do.
How about removing the tires and pulling them around with you where ever you go.
Little red wagons are pretty cheap to.
Hey - ....maybe you something there - thanks for the tip and sharing
Thank you.
Get your car towed here. All 4 need to be on the floor when parked outside.
I would but my truck tires are 100 lbs each. And no... Just no.
Yeah, but what if the thief walks around with 4 other tires...then what. You see, you have to think things through.
Been doing it for over a year now....you get a thumbs up. Thanx for the video.
Thanks - no problem
ronsmurff10 I
So why don't you just take the fuse out instead of putting a fake one in, just leave it out... its not like a car thief just keeps fuel pump fuses for your car in their pocket or anything...
If they bothered to look in the fuse box - it would be the only one missing - so they could just swap out one from the cig lighter
Yes, so the average car thief knows that.
and if they knew that Then they would know to check the fuse to begin with..
carquestions
What kinda theives you dealin wit in canada? No wonder crime is so low. I can jack your car in 10sec or less. I never need to touch it.
Obstructed terminal paper clip in terminals and your car is mine ... Yes car theives carry paper clips and jumper wires in a kit
If you are parking it long term, sure this works just fine. But for everyday short term parking it would be nothing but a pain in the ass.
Nailed it Fabio!
This guy deserves a medal. THANK YOU
Say what???
Are you kidding me
Hey! That's pretty neat! I sure wasn't expecting something super easy like a secret button but that's not too much work for a little added security. I don't see me doing that every time but it sure is handy to know if your in a shady area and need some piece of mind, thank you!
instead of blowing the fuse, remove it and keep it on your person.
Sorry for the late reply but it's not for everyday
Great and every time I need to drive I’ll just lift the bonnet and fumble for that fuse in the rain.
or -20C cold
Best tip ever uploaded in youtube history. Now, am I being sarcastic or genuine? Who knows.
or for free, you take a spare fuse with a much lower rating and install it in place of the higher rating and try to start your car instantly blowing the fuse. them you swap fuses back and they won't know.
I leave fake poo on the drivers seat. Hasn't been stolen yet
Anecbrutal
I took a dump on my front lawn... in da middle of the nite...someone stole the log they picked up dat piece of shit and put it in their pocket n ran off...ya gotta remember people these people who steal cars are the scum of the earth they would rather steal ur ride than just take one from a dealership...like i said scum of the earth destine for hell 😐
But what about the car?
Has anyone stolen that yet?
Fake?
Could've made this video into 30sec instead of 3:49
I wired my old MGB so you needed to click an unused switch inside the car to operate the electric fuel pump.
Good advice thanks Bourne - cheers!
What about removing the fuel pump relay instead, or removing the ignition fuse?
All good ideas of course
Ryan Toomey or remove d driveshaft
popping the hood and removing FUSES is a crap method. Pulling fuses and reinserting them will wear out the fuse receptacles. Install a damn KILL switch for about 5 buck.
Exactly what I said too. Switch=easy and no B.S. or wear. Good point.
Even remove coil pack, spark plugs etc
Seriously, driving stick is a lost art in the US.
John A
"Smart enough" and "Time" are two different things. If hes smart enough a car thief would ignore whatever gear your cars in and just trailer it or tow it. But if the owner is smart enough they would RFID all the panels and have ways to prevent theft. The easiest is not parking where your car is likely to be stolen.
I knew how to drive a standard gear box car when I was 8 - and started driving a standard on the roads when I was 13 - got my license when I was 17
or u can just pull the fuze...and walk away into the mall or whatever with it ...no car thief is gonna be like "hey! did u take the fuze out ?" lol
You could just take the fuse out, no need to replace it with a broken decoy. I mean the majority of thieves aren't the brightest bunch. If they were smart enough to think "oh wait he must have removed one of the fuses to start the car" he would notice a broken fuse by looking at one.
how do you think they jump start car and have code reading scrambler and decoder.. they are pretty smart if you ask me
Monera96
I believe the "smart" ones only go after big ticket cars ie exotic or new models.
Thats why you take a colour picture of a new fuse, print it out and stick it to the outside of the busted fuse to make it look new. they will be scratching their head for days on that hum dinger
As cars have become smarter, thieves also became smarter. That's evolution....and good thieves are usually a step ahead of the latest technology.
I laughed so hard at all the comments: This really is the craziest, most time-consuming solution I've ever seen!
Damn every time I want to drive this car I got to open and close the damn hood. Man this is a lot of work.
Can’t believe I watched that. Dude owes me 3 1/2 minutes of my life back
Or you could just install a kill switch for less that $5 and not have to switch the fuses every time you want to park your car.
+AnalQueen1969 This would be for long term parking - would be a pita for daily parking
This will work but is not practical for everyday use. It would work if you were going to leave your car in a public place for a few days in a sketchy neighborhood and were worried about it being stolen.
+clf laz
Park so one of those repo trucks with the hidden hoist in the bed cant just tow it away without even getting out of their truck.
Just wasted 3 minutes of my life
agree
and then another minute more to write your 2 cents ;)
My gf tied me to a chair and taped my eyelids open and forced me to watch this video, so yes.
Saul Martinez
Yes because im sure you were super buisy at work or something thats why you were watching this
Me too... This was not ingenious
Great - now you just taught the theives how to plan around this.
Fantastic.
did I mention how to disable the alarm yet?
I feel like most of this video was about how to blow a fuse. Simply removing the fuse or swapping it with an already blown one should work too.
God
Bless Amnerica, thanks for caring enough about America to actually THINK!
why not just wire a hidden killswitch to the fuel pump or to the ignition switch?
thats why you hide the switch and dont make the wiring obvious
***** But they won't, because it's quicker move on to the next car.
even if you do that, it still has some gas in the system so it could still go for a bit
No, fuel injectors will not work without pressure from the pump. Now if it had a carburetor, then it could drive for awhile ( couple of minutes) because the fuel bowl is full of gas.
There are radio controlled kill switches. Cost less than $5 each. I bought 2 and can't say if they work since I never installed one.
Interesting concept if you're going to leave your car in a lot for quite a while. You'd want to remove the spare fuses too if the thief even goes through the trouble of actually troubleshooting the problem. I've also heard of occasions where thieves use tow trucks steal your car. Brilliant!
Good idea . Better than just removing the fuse
good idea tho! Definitely going to look into something like that. You always want to disable either spark or fuel. Because mostly any car thief is gonna know how to jump a starter. Thanks for the video!
***** If you have the right tools and the car is older than dirt, you mean.
Trade in ur vette for a used Mitsubishi Mirage.....you can leave the key in the ignition, door open. It will never be gone.
Let me think on that Frank
Just came from Edmonton Police, thieves like Dodge Neons and Settings as much as anything else, low key.
Pretty cool. Another thing too do is install a hot wire from the coil and run it under the seat sos they get a shock every time the coil fires!
HTH
one big problem a lot of cars have a safety device that stops your car from idling over about 4,000 rpms
My solution is to put a locking gas cap on your car and only put enough gas in your vehicle to get you have way to where your going (that way there won't even be fumes left), then go Married with children style and push it the rest of the way.
Prevents theft and keeps you in shape.
Great idea. Every time you park, open the hood, open the fuse box cover, swap the fuse and put it back together. Then when you’re ready to go - repeat. Just take the car. Who has time for this.
The genius that make this video
This still won't stop 'em from busting out the window and stealing the radio though.
I knew someone that had a crackhead break his window and steal just his radio face. People will steal stuff just to do it.
i had someone break my window to take a snack size bag of doritos once. i dont leave a single thing in my car now.
Not even seats.
On my car, if you bust a window and unlock the door the horn will start honking repeatedly after a few seconds. That alarm system came with the car when it was new.
Old school! 👍😀
every obstacle costing more than a minute discourages thief and hardly anyone carries spare fuses in your pocket
Old school and right on! cheap and effective - what do people expect for 50 cents?
Absolutely! 👍😀
Might as well add your SS# and your bank account info on the intro of the video!! 😂😂
And they might want to take a course in emergency medicine since the car is in the air, tires off and me less than 50 feet away
Thanks for the info MRT
i gota better idea take out the fuse and hook your self in a switch in place of the fuse run the switch to a place under the dash only you know about then you dont have all the hassle of opening up the hood and swapping in dead fuses all the time, works perfect with every car that has a fuel pump fuse, for cars with out then you need to locate the main computers fuse put in an inline fuse to the same switch so the computer will still be safe.. there are alot of cars by the way that the fuse is under the rear seat of the car for the fuel pump so under the hood wont work all the time..
I Hope your still use the Fuse inline.
That or short out your ignition system.
Do the words "catastrophic car fire" mean nothing to you?
Verry humble saying on this particular car not just Corvette
A lot of work to go through every time you need to go somewhere.
Yes sir too much work
Been doing that for about 30 years, but I pull a different one, and took off the label - and NEVER told anybody about it.
How do you...nvm
works better when you can use a fuse inside of the car if possible, although a hidden kill switch is pretty cheap and fairly easy too
ummm why not just take the damn fuse out and carry it with you... that would be free and accomplish the same thing
They could move a similar fuse into it's place. Basically replacing it with a dead fuse is security through obscurity... Then again, how could they tell if that car needs a fuse in that specific place... Rip this argument...
It’s an American thing
I think there's an easier way: just take out the fuse (why blow it?) and reinsert it when you want to drive your car...
Quit smoking so much weed and you won't be so paranoid! Just have insurance that covers theft too, that always helps!
Just loosen the oil filter. They won't get too far.
meanwhile your claim is processed, walk to the bus stop???? Or wait for you to give me a ride???
My car has an alarm. You have to have a key to steal my car. Or a flat bed tow truck.
I drive a truck with a manual transmission. I got the top of a shiftlever from an Eaton Fuller 13 speed and put that on the shifter in the truck, even ran the air line for the hi/lo down into the floor just so it would look legit. It will never be stolen. I guarantee it.
Ingenious -
Might cost 50 cents for the fuse, but it's gonna cost a lot more when you have to repair your engine and pump for suckling in air instead of fuel. The fuel acts as a lubricant on its travel to the piston. No fuel = no lubrication = burning things up = costly repairs. This is a way to do it, but it'd be worth it just to buy an alarm system for the vehicle.
Buckeyefreak28 I don't know about the engine, but the pump certainly won't suck air in, simply because it would be turned off because of blown fuze...
Buckeyefreak28 the fuel Pump is not going to suck air if the Pump is not working
That's a great idea! The thief can't start the car, but neither can I. Are we to pop the hood and mess with the fuse box twice every time we stop?
Nope - long term only
Then, you are in a hurry to get going and have to put a freakin' FUSE back in? Seriously?
Or, the thief trashes the starter, which MIGHT just cost a bit MORE than 50 centavos!
This is for longer term situations
I don't know why this has so many downvotes. I agree it's easier to just pull the fuse, but the idea to give the impression that something is wrong with the car and not make it obvious.
Mr. Bean removed the steering wheel.
And a very smart man he is
What you need to do is stop saying what you need to do.
What if someone sees you pop your hood every time you park?
This is not a solution for short term - its for longer term storage
Easy, put GM badges on it and nobody will think its out of the ordinary
This is a ease and cheep fix but you can have alarm system that makes no noise when switch on or off
It's true that no alarm will go off but it will keep the engine from starting
Lots of people will like the fact they have to put work in to it as well even though it's a ease fix
You can have more than one switch or relay install in the car to brake the power to the starter relay or brake the power to the coil or coil pack
It's possible to install a switch in the fuel pump power wire as well
But those take time and cost
You do have a simple fix it's cheep and most car thrive only wish to hope in and go once thieres trouble it's time to walk a way unless it's a really big score
Thanks for posting for this may have save a car
I take my battery with me every time i park my car, still hasn't been stolen!
That is definitely a stopper - can you imagine a thief carrying a battery around?
I wasn't serious but if they really wanted the car they'd get a battery, either steal one from another car in the lot or come back with one!
*****
this isn't stopping the serious professional thief - just your average bonehead
Brilliant and foolproof. No way that car will be started unless they know to fix it
Thanks
why wouldnt you just hold onto the fuel pump fuse in your wallet or something instaed of blowing up a fuse every fucking time you are so paranoid about this shit... lol..
cause if..and i mean if..the thief opens the fuse box and sees a missing fuel pump fuse he will bridge the gap and his on his way...but if u place one that's already blown for the working fuse(not blow one every time just have a blown fuse on hand) they he might rule out fuse problem and give up.
Rippyboy701 You think somebody trying to steal a car is really going to pop the hood and start troubleshooting a mechanical problem? Uh, no.
Milk Manson
LOL..... my thoughts exactly... LMAO... just pull the f'n fuse out... who is gonna pop the fuse box cover and do a diagnostic??? LMAO
Milk Manson i fell out of my chair. some people in this world are not the sharpest tool in the shed. lmao
Milk Manson
That is why i said "IF"..people "hot wire" cars right?..people don't steal cars just cause you leave the keys in the ignition.
I do believe this was a joke . No Way this was someone being serious?
He looked kind of goofy. I think he was serious.
Seems a little involved every time I park at the mall or something. I knew a guy who had wired two of the hold-down screws on the dash trim. When he touched the screws at the same time, it allowed the key to start the car. It was a 70s corvette. Before the age of modern electronics in cars.
its for longer term storage
why dont you just remove steering wheel and take it shopping with you, its free, and if you car does get towed away at least you still got the wheel, just a thought.
My friend who went to jail for stealing cars showed me this video.Seriously though that would mean everytime you have to pop the hood take out the blown fuse and replace it with the good one..
Can't you just unplug the maf and accomplish the same thing or get a battery cut off
Yep you could
Thieves can use a tow truck (yes they'll do that) and this method won't stop a tow truck. Nobody questions tow guys. However, for longterm parking (storage/vacation etc) this is certainly a good idea.
Instead of blowing the fuse yourself, couldn’t you just put in a much smaller fuse like a 1 amp and it will blow on its own?
tough to get one amp fuse but yes you could do it
Only problem is that it won't stop someone from towing it and you are not gonna be swapping that fuse out every time you park the car.
Better to just have good insurance because if they want your car, they are going to get it eventually.
I think this is. Just a joke of the day,, because if isn't please help that man. And his wife 2kids ect!
And his twin brother.
A thought, it can be potentially dangerous to your vehicle's electronics if you jump start another vehicle. Could that surge from the battery that you use to short the fuse be potentially dangerous to your electronics? Just a thought. I've removed fuses and they still stole my truck.
How about removing all the gears from the transmission box? Good luck stealing the car now thieves!
I'd rather they steal the car - removing the rear transmission is one giant pain
heheheheh them st0ped theves
This makes sense. If you plan on parking your car for a extended time, remove a fuse..............Now I wouldnt necessarily blow it...but i would remove it.....A case where i would blow it would be if the criminal knew I did it. How you gonna have time to check every fuse??
Ok better yet hide a toggle switch that disables fuel pump relay instead of all that unnecessary work. My way much better sorry .
Good advice - just takes more skill and time
If there is only two wires going to it try cutting and connecting them - then try it - if it doesn't work separate the wires and try it - if that fails follow the wires and see what they connect to
Or just buy a chevy, ford or chrysler..Nobody steals those.
This is a chevy...
SomethingNewThisWay
But it's a nice Chevy ! A well used one, especially from the 'rust belt'... Who wants that unless they are truly desperate.
Lol the car he had was a Chevy Corvette
if im stealing a car, im looking for the quickest way to get in it and go without lookin suspicious. car wont start. OH LETS JUST POP THE HOOD AN CHECK ALL THE FUSES!!!
Can't you just remove the fuse ??
Absolutely no problem - replacing with a blown fuse just makes it that much harder
...or the wndscren
This is actually quite smart.. You'd end up with broken car window for sure but the car stays where it is.. Thanks!
No broken windows yet
my dad has a GMC truck form 2006 and it got stolen last night but it had a bunch of tools in it and people have broken the door's to steal stuff thanks for the info but it's to late for me to tell my dad
