    To all those with their reasons and insults for not doing this... I post this ancient Chinese proverb:
    "The man who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the man doing it"
    Thanks Mr & Mrs Pete!

      that Chinese proverb reminds me of the Gilligans island episode, when Gilligan put on a set of wings he had made from bird feathers and was flapping his arms and was actually flying. when the captain came out of his hut and saw Gilligan in the air, flying with his homemade wings, the captain yelled up to Gilligan, Gilligan, you can’t fly little buddy!! Gilligan replied, I can’t?....Then Gilligan stopped flapping his wings upon hearing that news from the captain, and fell to the ground...

    Nothing wrong with changing a rear wing tire like this. You just need to make sure your gas tank is at least half empty. No fluids spill out doing it this way. Thousands of big bikes run car tires, look up dark siders. They are very safe, you get 2,000 miles on one instead of 8,000 and if you are pulling a small cargo trailer or even a camper trailer they carry a much heavier load. No reason to be tossing around insults on a subject you don't understand, better to have asked the questions.

    Welcome to the Dark side! I have been running a car tire for 4 years now. While I will say car tire is not for everyone. I have over 50k now as Darksider and on my first run flat tire ,
    Taking the curves the bike has been down coast on Hwy 1 Its been to Yellowstone and this year we went to Hwy 129 Tail of the Dragon Deals Gap North Carolina which has 318 curves in 11 miles the bike did great. 80% of our ridding is two up with gear for two people

    • @oldbikerbear
      @oldbikerbear 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      How does the car tire do for handling Kevin? And how the heck do you figure out the size you need?

    • @talk2kev
      @talk2kev 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Blair Tinker I have been a Darksider for 4 years now , The first thing I want to say not everyone one needs a car tire on the rear end. It's your ridding style if your put a 2 or 3k miles a year you will not need a car tire. I run 10k miles plus a year. Handling it is some thing to get use to, My stopping distance is less due to more contact surface At first I believed all the BS about cornering the tire is square you will be riding on small square corner of the tire all that is BS it's more in your head than actual fact. I have been using a car tire for more than four years now. No problems in fact I just returned from the Tail of the dragon run in Tennessee which is 318 curves in 11 miles, Dragging floor boards on few corners We spent four days riding in the Smoky Mountains, Ii you have not been there you need to put that on your list.Once again if you don't ride 2 up with gear and long distance you will not need a car tire, but if you have been having problems with tread life and you ride a lot of miles then it might be a fit for you.As to tire size darkside.nwff.info/?p=tires this is a web site that people use for information about tires. I personally use a Bridgestone Driveguard Run flat tire 195/55 RF 16 on the rear. Do your own research on the subject This is my personal experience and may not work for every one.

    • @oldbikerbear
      @oldbikerbear 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tread life is my problem. I do a lot of touring on an old 1982 1100A and I tow a home built cargo trailer for the camping gear. I looked in the info you posted but dont see my bike. Might be able to match it up with something tho. Thank you for the insight.

      Sorry I should have told what bait I have been fishing with, I ride a 2008 GL1600 Goldwing with 70k miles and 50k is on a car tire I change tire after two summer trips or about 20k or so This is my 3rd CT on this bike I'm thinking of going double darkside. If your not familiar with that folks are taking a rear Motorcycle tire and mounting on the front rim, Again its about tread life. What is the tire size you are running now on rear?
      Blair Tinker

    • @nelsong4719
      @nelsong4719 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      To me it's simple. If you're a none aggressive rider you're more likely to get away with it. I'm also a 2 up rider who has done a lot 10,000 mile excursions on all types of roads without any incidence ; touch wood. The thing you must all remember is mileage on a car tire is not a viable factor because tires only have a 5 year expiry date. Look at it this way would you wear a cheap helmet to save a few bucks and compromise your safety. It only takes once

      @Atouk 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +theoriginalmungaman - You're the one that's stupid. I use a car tire on my Valkyrie, and so do a lot of other Valk riders and Wing riders. Instead of saying something stupid, get a clue first and then you won't say something stupid!

    • @theoriginalmungaman
      @theoriginalmungaman 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Atouk No your an Idiot! And your WRONG! Just cause it might work doesn't mean its safe or correct. Ask any tire manufacturer if a flat car tire is OK to use in place of a rounded motorcycle tire. Better yet ask any A.S.E. certified tire shop or bike shop to put a car tire on a bike Moron! Where did you get your engineering degree?

    • @Atouk
      @Atouk 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      theoriginalmungaman
      Where'd you become a tire expert? I'm not even going to argue with you about a proven practice. Of course any of the tire manufacturers are going to tell you not to put them on a bike because they have to. Motorcycle tires suck. You ride what you want, and I'll do the same. The Yokohama Envigor works fantastic on the back of my Valkyrie. It rides and handles superbly. I scrape pegs and pipes at all speeds with that tire on the back with no problems. Good luck with your bike tire and safe riding be with you. *Peace*

    • @theoriginalmungaman
      @theoriginalmungaman 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Atouk I'm not a tire expert. I build bikes from scratch and I design and build all kinds of things. I understand physics. You can convince yourself all you want but at the end of the day your wrong. Every motorcycle comes with a round profile tire for a reason. A motorcycle is never driving perfectly straight up. By having a round profile the contact patch stays constant. Ask a tire engineer. If the profile and load rating aren't matched for the bike how do you come up with a proper air pressure? A lot of motorcycle tires are co-engineered with the motorcycle manufacturer. If a car tire where best they would use them on race bikes. Do they? I know the big motorcycle tires aren't cheap so I get why people do it.

    • @Atouk
      @Atouk 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      theoriginalmungaman
      I actually couldn't care less about the cost of bike tires. I always ran Avon Cobra tires on the Valkyrie and I still prefer one on the front. However, the larger contact patch and better wet weather riding capabilities of a car tire on the back of the bike make it superior to the bike tire. It performs far better than even the bike tire specifically designed for the metric cruiser. To each his own. I think ape hanger bars are dangerous as fuck, but if someone wants to look ridiculous with them on their bike, more power to them. I've seen some very nice custom bikes, but to me, they're MEH. They're usually uncomfortable eye candy with no practical appeal for those long rides. I want comfort and reliability which is why I ride the Valk. If I wanted an uncomfortable organ donor bike, I pick a crotch rocket. Anyway, the idea of a car tire on the back of a bike has a long history with metric cruisers, and with a high degree of success. You can bask it all you want to, but it's staying on the back of mine.

    Extremely dangerous! Never put a car tire on a motorcycle! I use on my GL1800 only Bridgestone or Dunlop the only two brands Honda recommends. Car tires do not belong on a bike, they don't have the proper grip neither they will keep you safe in corners or under wet conditions. They only last longer but what's the point if your life is at stake every second while riding on a dark side! Don't do it!

    • @Atouk
      @Atouk 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Steve Sikorski - Knuckle dragging program? The car tire on the back of the Goldwing and the Valkyrie is superior to the motorcycle tire. They handle better, have a much larger contact patch on the straight AND in cornering, and they have a larger load capacity. I'm on my second season using a car tire on my 98 Valk and I'll never go back to a bike tire on it. Save your ignorance for your wife and kids.

      Steve Sikorski
      WTF are you even taking about? My riding ability speaks for itself..lots of miles in all weather..never been down...still alive. What do loud pipes and a Harley have to do with darksiding a tire on a bike? You're not making any sense. I own a Valkyrie, so which part of that did you miss? Oh, maybe you think I own one of the greatest bikes to ever hit the road because I couldn't afford a Harley? That would make me LOL for real. My "choice" was a Honda for a reason. Harley's are garbage bikes, fit for posers and people that take too many selfies. Wing riders typically out-ride most bikers because they're dedicated to their desire to cover ground and see the world from their machine that typically lasts 250,000 to 300,000 miles. Find me a Harley that covers more than 40,000 miles without shaking itself apart and requiring an overhaul. What crap, you're the one that loves his POS Harley and loud pipes. Loud pipes are for people begging for attention. You're a freak show.

That will not be hard because I could eat your Valky, digest those car tires, and shit the remaining product behind me in the twisties.

    • @Cuemaster2011
      @Cuemaster2011 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Atouk Harleys have actually improved a lot since the early 2000's. And no, they won't shake themselves apart. I know someone who has over 170,000 miles on his EVO. The bike's longevity always goes with the dedication towards maintenance. I simply find it upsetting when people call other bikes brands garbage. Yes, Harley owners often express a lot of pride but most of them are humble and simply share the love for riding. Close minded people like you make it even worse for us, Harley riders. I don't care what you ride but I will never call any types of motorcycles a piece of trash. Learn respect.

    If Mr. Host had bought a service manual he would have quickly found that by removing four small bolts in the rear fender between the saddle bags, then two more small bolts in the bracket behind it, he could have changed his tire on the centerstand rather than laying his bike on it's side. I assume since he's too cheap to install a quality motorcycle tire on his bike that the thought of purchasing a manual never crossed his mind. Perhaps his extra cash is spent on doughnuts and bon bons?

    • @davidrounds3245
      @davidrounds3245 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have a trailer hitch on your wing it involves much more then just removing the back panel. If you have a lift that goes up high enough you can drop the tire straight down but laying it over is just as easy if not easier. If he had rocked the bike up a little and pulled out his center stand he would have had a much easier time of it. Would not have needed the lever to lift the bike to get the tire back on. He did fine though.

      Have you stopped to think that the guy may have a trailer hitch on his bike. And that was a very low blow how about the donuts. What he did was perfectly fine changing the rear tire like that I wish people would mind their own business. One of the easiest way to change the tire on the 1800. Just have to be careful laying the bike on its side be gentle with it I'm put some carpet or soft padding down.
