THANK YOU! I'm so sick of trying to defend my CT on my F6B. I get 26,000 miles of HARD, BRUTAL riding out of a CT, and the grip, cornering, braking, wet traction are all FAR superior to a regular street MT. You'd hafta go to a very soft compound MT tire to get the same levels of grip that you would with a Michelin CT. And then you'd be changing rear tires on a big bike like a 'Wing every 5-6,000 miles. I'll keep running a CT on my 'Wing, and the haters can keep hating. Thanks for posting this video.
Yeah well ace I'm in the same boat. I'm going to go to a car tire in spring. I put a brand new CT on 4 thousand miles ago and she already looks tired. So it lasted the season. REALLY.. So I will go darkside when I change it and I don't care about the haters. I have a channel on TH-cam so I will get alot of haters. Will not change the fact that I will be able to ride the tire 30 thousand miles or so. Sounds like 4 or 5 Mt at 30 thousand miles. Lol.

Very convincing video! I love that KY accent, too! I am looking at buying a 2012 Goldwing with only 4000 miles. So the tires will need to be replaced soon, for safety reasons. I like the idea of putting a CT on the rear.
Been riding 55 years. Never seen anything like that. I recently put a CT on my 06 Yamaha stratoliner. LOVE IT. HINT:: Try putting a Dunlop American Elite on the front and the pressure for both tires at 38lbs. The American Elite is a very round faced tire. It bosses the rear tire, making it feel like a MT is on front AND rear. If the front tire drops below 35lbs, you begin to feel the rear tire starting to boss the front tire. CT's require more imput into the steering. The American Elite changes that. Anyway, I love the CT and would not go back. I run a Yokohama Avid Touring tire, 215/60/17 and love it. My Harleys still have MT's on them, their rims are not wide enough to accept a CT. Thx brother.
I keep replacing my motorcycle tire every year or two and it’s time for a car tire, all my wear is in the middle I don’t even have tread loss on the sides

Wow that tyre was bald… illegal here in uk, dangerous too..I see how dark siding in usa works given LONG straight roads, in uk it just wouldn’t be safe. roads too small, mini roundabouts everywhere tight sweeping bends etc.but for you guys it works👍 safe riding…

Do you think a 205/60-16 would fit on a 2008? I’ve had my engine bottom out on angled curbs several times. I have this fear the case will crack and oil is going to dump leaving me stranded
Here is the ONLY Issue with a car tire that I know of, it's the bead, the shape of a motorcycle tire bead, and a car bead are not the same... if they fail to seal... it lacks redundancy to stay on the rim... not really much of an issue 99.999% of the time, and might not have ever unseated in the history of a mounted tire... but liability is often not about what it will do but might do, and many shops for that reason won't mount them. I have a double dark side set in the garage ready for mounting, no shop near me will touch it, and 2 separate shops will, 1 for the front since it is a motorcycle tire but for a rear, they are ok to mount it, and since the car tire shop can mount the rear, they cannot mount the front since it has rotors.
Here is an article I found on the bead... "As a tire spins, the centrifugal force generated makes the tire’s bead seat to want to pull from the rim’s bead seat and during cornering, the lateral loads placed on the tires want to push the tire away from the bead flange. As alluded to, in the design of the rims there are two things other than just the circumference of the rim and the air pressure that help hold the tire on. They would be the bead hump, and the bead lock. The bead hump helps keep the tire help against the bead flange and the bead lock helps keep the tire from pulling away from the bead seat. The bead lock is formed as the shape of the face of the bead flange and how the bead flange meets up with the radius from the bead seat to the bead flange. On a car tire/rim combination has a 6.5mm radius. On a motorcycle tire/rim combination has a 2.5mm radius. The bead flange on a car tire is 17.5mm tall and the bead flange has a radius of 9.5m radius on the face. On a motorcycle the bead flange is only 14mm tall and it has one radius in the middle of 12.5mm and a 3.0mm radius on the very top of the face. The bead hump is quite different in shape and size from a car rim to a motorcycle rim. The bead hump is a little larger on a motorcycle rim versus a car rim because of the extra forces generated while the motorcycle is cornering. The bead hump is placed in a VERY critical location on both rims. On a car rim it is 21mm from the bead flange to the center point of the bead hump. On a motorcycle it is placed at 16mm from the bead flange to the center point of the bead hump. Why this is critical, is the respective tire that fits the respective rim will have a matching size bead seat of both the rim and the tire. So by placing a 21mm bead seat (car tire) in a spot only allocated for 16mm. (Motorcycle rim) the car tires bead seat is sitting on the bead hump not down by it allowing the bead hump to help hold the tire on the rim. Thus this where and how a car tire can dismount from a motorcycle rim. "

On older car tires the walls were not as stiff and unseated bead was a issue... the tires we often buy now are harder and resist flexing this way as much, but I ride my Goldwing at over 100mph often... not sure how this will work out since the bead cannot lock in place.
Thats a lot of numbers to calculate that something doesnt work. Watch the video again, it works BETTER than a motorcycle tire on a Goldwing rim. Maybe next time I will drop it from an airplane, then run over it with a train. Will you get rid of that calculator if I do that? ;=)
@@duckster011 "works BETTER than a motorcycle tire" not on the bead it does not, I am Pro-Darkside, but it has no place in some applications... even the run-flat tires you and I have... does not change the fact the bead is not locked in. This matters if you have a very heavy load on a turn while accelerating hard... I am 400+ pound guy, and was a tire mechanic many years... in the 90s a tire lasting 5k was about it, car tires made sense and more issues then like lack of run-flats with stiff sidewalls were rare and VERY expensive and this left a stigma - that only REAL issue with a car tire on it is the bead, Run-flat ( as shown in the video ) will not lock it.
Drill some holes in a motorcycle tire and take it for a ride, then do a couple burnouts. Report back which tire locks on the rim better. Merry Christmas!

This proves one very important thing - a run flat car tire on a Goldwing is actually safer than a motorcycle tire on a Goldwing.

Yea, I generally don't drill holes in good tires. It corners every bit as good as a so called bike tire.
